[Bug 322035] Re: Please merge conky_1.6.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-01-27 Thread Andrew Gee
This is my first merge attempt, so I apologise if anything is stupidly
wrong :)

As instructed from the guide, I'm going to include two debdiffs. One
from conky-1.6.1-1 to my merge and one from conky-1.6.1-0ubuntu3.

I hope I've done everything right :)

[Bug 387043] Re: osmgpsmap python bindings placed in site-packages rather than dist-packages

2009-07-02 Thread Andrew Gee
A minimal patch for the stable jaunty release of osm-gps-map is attached

** Summary changed:

- [jaunty] Python bindings placed in wrong directory
+ osmgpsmap python bindings placed in site-packages rather than dist-packages

** Description changed:

- When the migration from python 2.5 to 2.6 was made in the jaunty
- development cycle, it would appear python-osmgpsmap was not rebuilt
- against the new version.
+ During the jaunty development cycle, the transition was made from site-
+ packages in python, to dist-packages. The configure script in the
+ python-osmgpsmap didn't pick up the right location, until I just fixed
+ this in a patch. However this is not available in jaunty. So when a user
+ tries to use the module, they are told it cannot be found.
+
+ ==Solution==
+ The bug was addressed in the development version by modifying the
python/configure and python/aclocal.m4 files in the package, using a patch. The
script now picks up the correct location for the python modules.
+
+ ==Test Case==
+ TEST CASE: Using a python prompt, typing "import osmgpsmap" doesn't produce
any errors.
+
+ TEST CASE: Alternatively, use this script, execute it, and observe the
+ map loading. http://andrewgee.org/stuff/osmgpsmaptest.sh

[Bug 292141] [NEW] Marvell 88E8056 network adapter not functioning

2008-11-01 Thread Andrew Gee
Public bug reported:

I have been using intrepid on my desktop for quite a while. Since alpha
4, I believe. I haven't had a problem with my network adapter in this
time. Last Saturday, I ran some updates. I boot up this machine, until
today, since installing these updates. But now the network adapter is
not working at all, in Ubuntu.

I grabbed the final release intrepid cd and upgraded to that point. The
problem still occurs. Even networkmanager isn't showing any icon,
because there are no network adapters detected.

I have tried disabling and enabling the sky2 module. I have tried ifdown
eth0 and ifup eth0, as suggested on another bug (#138611), but it seems
to be a different issue, as that doesn't fix it.

[Bug 292551] [NEW] NetworkManager not running on computer startup

2008-11-02 Thread Andrew Gee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I ran some updates 8 days ago, on intrepid. I hadn't started up the
computer since then, until yesterday. When I booted up, I found that the
network manager applet was missing from the notification tray. I can see
from System Monitor that nm-applet is running.

I found that by running "sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager start"
everything goes back to normal. So for some reason, the network manager
service is not starting on boot up.

I don't have anything in /etc/network/interfaces as seen in bug #289466.

I have attached a syslog file, as instructed to in bug #43379. From
syslog, I can't even see NetworkManager trying to start up, until I
started it manually (at time 09:53:28 in log).

[Bug 271706] [NEW] Volume control wheel on laptop is sticking in ubuntu

2008-09-18 Thread Andrew Gee
Public bug reported:

I'm running up-to-date intrepid. I have a volume control wheel on the
side of my Toshiba U300 laptop. This volume control did work as expected
in hardy. It operates like a scroll wheel on a mouse, in the way that it
has specific points at which it sends a signal. When I got to these
points on hardy, the volume would just increase or decrease by one
block.

With intrepid it gets the volume to go up one block, then waits for a
second and then keep turning the volume up constantly without stopping.
I've found if I hold a key on the keyboard down, for example Ctrl, it
stops it temporarily. When I release Ctrl it start zooming off
increasing or decreasing again. I have found if I swap desktops by
holding down Ctrl Alt Left or Right, it stops it zooming off increasing
or decreasing completely.

I'm sorry if the above was a bit confusing. It's surprisingly hard to
explain :)

I'd like to mention that the version that has been pointed out (0.1.22)
is infact the version that I'm trying to install, which has the bad
dependencies. I've looked at the i386 and amd64 debs and they have
different dependencies. i386 asks for python << 2.7 and amd64 asks for
python << 2.6.

Kai,

I believe Ubuntu cannot include proprietary packages.

Medibuntu is a third party project not officially supported by Ubuntu. You'll
have to talk to the Medibuntu people, to get Zattoo included in their
repository.
http://www.medibuntu.org/

Good luck :)

Apologies if this isn't right,

I ran the command "sudo evtest /dev/input/event4"

Got the following output when moving the volume wheel. I made sure I
only moved the wheel one unit. I didn't continue to scroll the wheel
around. I'm not quite sure why is repeated 3 times.

[Bug 184859] Cheese crashes on load with compiz running

2008-01-21 Thread Andrew Gee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

I have compiz fusion running. Cheese runs fine, when compiz is not
running. Upon trying to load cheese via the command line, with compiz
running, I receive a X Windows System error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cheese
** Message: Probing the webcam, please ignore the following, not applicabable
tries
using source: v4l2src
The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 41 error_code 11 request_code 140 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 178854] iwl4965 driver acquires IP address but no connection

2007-12-27 Thread Andrew Gee
Public bug reported:

I have an Intel 4965 Wireless adapter in my Toshiba U300 laptop. My
wireless network uses WPA-PSK encryption. I set up the details in the
network settings manager.

>From ifconfig, I can see that the wireless adapter has got an IP
address. But trying to access anything with a network connection fails.
Even accessing my router (192.168.0.1).

[Bug 144621] Re: iwl4965 drops out from time to time (Santa Rosa)

2007-12-30 Thread Andrew Gee
After installing Tim's package, I now get a flood on dmesg, as said by
Matteo.

However, when trying to compile the driver, as explained by ggepz, it
fails with many errors.

Is there a package I can install, which will work well?

Thanks

Sorry about not getting back to you. I've been rather busy the last few

Still got the same problem.

Then I ran dmesg, sudo lspci -v, and sudo lspci -vv.

Rhythmbox doesn't provide me with any .crash files in /var/crash/ it
just quits with "Segmentation Fault (Core Dumped)". When trying to

Do you suggest I open a bug on apport then?

2007-04-25 Thread Andrew Gee
Well... Let me expand this then.

I can go to this secure site on my laptop, on the same internet
connection, and the secure server goes fast.

I can go to a secure site on the problem PC, using a different browser
suchas mozilla or opera, and it goes at the expected speed

But whenever I use firefox on the problem PC, the secure site can take
up to a minute to load, or even time out loading!

Anything else you would like me to elaborate on?

Provide?

Anything?!
