[Bug 386910] [NEW] Gnome Power Manager shut down issue with a second battery

2009-06-14 Thread Alpha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Short description: Gnome Power Manager shuts down the system
automatically if the first battery reaches the critical discharging
level, independently from the charging state of the second battery.

Long description:
OS: Ubuntu 9.04
HW: HP 6910p laptop with a secondary battery
Package: gnome-power-manager-2.24.2-ubuntu8

The Gnome Power Manager application can identify the two batteries attached to
the laptop and can display the charging level for them, separately. Although
there is a minor issue with the predicted battery life-time, namely it is
calculated based on the first battery, the second battery is ignored.
When the first battery is reaching the critical discharing level then the Gnome
Power Manager application is starting a system shut down ignoring the chargning
state of the second battery (even if the laptop would be working with that).

Expected behavior:
Battery life time is calculated based on charging levels of all attached
batteries and the automatic shut down starts when this common value reaches the
critical level.

Any clues? How will i take my state to a clean state? Lucid fresh

[Bug 571968] Re: upgrade from 9.10 Karmic to 10.04 Lucid aborted

2010-04-30 Thread Alpha
FIXED!

Steps followed

1. Removed all lines from /var/lib/dpkg/statoverride that mentions the
user debian-transmission (don't keep any blank lines in the file).

2. Fix broken packages using Synaptic package Manager.

3. Fresh upgrade by mounting iso as cdrom (Initial way).

4. The issue resolved(voila!).

Thanks Claud & Michael for helping out.

[Bug 62430] Re: rhythmbox doesn't do anything with .pls given on the command line

2010-01-28 Thread alpha-centauri
Using 9.10 64bit. Also here, using the "open with" does not open the
files in the folder with rhythmbox. I have to drag them manually to
playlist.

"Video player" is working here, I mostly use this programm to play the
files.

[Bug 124440] Re: gnome needs a way to manipulate scroll speed

2010-11-29 Thread Alpha Crasher
Pascal and company,

The only wish-list the lack of scroll wheel adjustment belongs on is
Microsoft's wish-list - as in they wish it never happens.

If you want people, end users, to migrate to Linux, then the LAST thing
you want is to make the controls uncomfortable.

This would put mouse, mouse wheel and touch pad control adjustment at
the TOP of the DROP EVERYTHING and DO YESTERDAY list.

Given that a Microsoft memo identified Linux as the single biggest
threat it faces, and that OpenOffice does virtually everything that MS
Office does, but for free, I wonder how much Microsoft would be willing
to offer me in cash, foreign property and cash or even jobs for my
family members or a future job for myself if I were in a position to
hold back or delay the development of the crucial FUNDAMENTALS that end-
users expect in an operating system such as comfort adjustment of
keyboards and mice?

How much would Microsoft be willing to pay me if I could hold on to my
position of steering development efforts away from anything that would
make Debian, the most widely distributed version of Linux with it's
default Gnome desktop, INSTANTLY more user friendly?

Is this a far-fetched idea, not really, just ask yourself 3 questions:
1) how many decades have mice, scroll wheels and touch pads been
around?, 2) How many computers don't have both a keyboard and a mouse?,
and 3) How is it possible a simple mouse-wheel adjustment has not been
implemented in Gnome?

If you have any doubts as to the effect of the lack of user-
friendliness, you need look no further than Ubuntu and Fedora. The sole
reason that these distributions exist and have gained in popularity is
the lack of user-friendliness of other distributions because end-users
will invariably choose a user-friendly installation.

No Fyo, this is NOT a hardware issue as nobody in their right mind
expects hardware manufacturers to fabricate hardware for Linux which has
less than 3% of the market. While comfort and ease of use by itself
will not grow that market share, lack of it certainly will keep it from
increasing. Daniel has it right.

[Bug 280883] Re: Ugly Close Tab menu icon on File menu

2009-05-15 Thread alpha-X-geek
This "bug" is present in my Ubuntu 9.04 system. Seems to be the only
ugly icon present in Firefox 3, but it's been like this for as long as I
can remember. The only reason it's bothering me so much now is because
I'm using a dark theme, which makes it all the more noticeable. It's not
exactly a major issue, just strange that such a pixelated icon has been
allowed to exist for all this time. I can't say if it's the same in
Windows, as I don't use it.

To reproduce, just open up Firefox in Ubuntu and take a look at how ugly
the "Close Tab" icon is compared to all the other icons.

** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => Confirmed

[Bug 280883] Re: Ugly Close Tab menu icon on File menu

2009-05-15 Thread alpha-X-geek
Just to clarify; it's the icon itself that is the problem, so this isn't
actually a Firefox bug. If you're using the default text editor in
Ubuntu, or the file browser Nautilus, etc, you will notice the same
"Close Tab" icon and it just doesn't match the quality of all the other
Human icons in Ubuntu.

Thanks.

** Package changed: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) => human-icon-theme (Ubuntu)

[Bug 355184] Re: Mobile Broadband Connection Assistant appears again, although connection has been configured as system-connection

2009-05-19 Thread alpha-X-geek
I'm experiencing the exact same issue and I've attached a log file from
"/var/log/syslog".

Unticking the option "Available to all users" in NetworkManager Applet
stops the prompt from appearing.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-07 Thread alpha-X-geek
I don't see how it's Ubuntu One, as this bug occurs in Debian too. Also,
I disabled Ubuntu One upon a fresh installation of Maverick anyway. The
theme issue can disappear for a while and then come back again, hence
why people try fixes and think they've worked, but in fact they haven't
worked.
