[Bug 1961524] [NEW] Sudden crash with screen frozen after re-login
Public bug reported: I was working with several apps, my laptop was on battery below 50%. Everything crashes all of a sudden and it goes back to the login screen. I login but it freezes and I have to force a restart. Don't know what happens, might be SSD related or GNOME 41 could be the culprit. There is no pattern so far but I will add more info if it happens again ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: gnome-shell 41.3-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-18.18-generic 5.15.12 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu77 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Feb 20 16:12:10 2022 DisplayManager: gdm3 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-shell InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-01-03 (47 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Alpha amd64 (20211230) ProcEnviron: LD_LIBRARY_PATH= PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=ro_RO.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 41.3-3ubuntu1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug jammy wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961524 Title: Sudden crash with screen frozen after re-login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1961524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1961524] Re: Sudden crash with screen frozen after re-login
This is the syslog at the moment it happened more or less. I think the crash starts at the first line (Feb 20 15:53:02). I was using Android Studio (building an APK) with Brave browser open, Inkscape, some music player and a phone connected through WiFi. ** Attachment added: "A brief syslog of the moment it happened" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1961524/+attachment/5562291/+files/syslog -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961524 Title: Sudden crash with screen frozen after re-login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1961524/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1965812] Re: After "apt upgrade" around Mar 18, shotwell desktop slideshow does not work any more
I have this exact issue, after an update around the same date. I can see the images are copied to /home//.local/share/shotwell/wallpaper/ and the XML is created with correct paths but that's it. The wallpaper is not changed nor is the slideshow added to the list of wallpapers. There's no .local/share/gnome-background-properties folder, either (which is where the configuration would be, apparently). I had to manually place an XML file inside the gnome-background-properties folder to make it work -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965812 Title: After "apt upgrade" around Mar 18, shotwell desktop slideshow does not work any more To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1965812/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1965812] Re: After "apt upgrade" around Mar 18, shotwell desktop slideshow does not work any more
You don't have to copy the XML generated by shotwell to gnome- background-properties. You have to create a different XML (I named it wallpaper.xml) with this code that points to the XML from shotwell: Shotwell /home//.local/share/shotwell/wallpaper/wallpaper.xml zoom Now, if you go to the wallpapers settings you will se your slideshow there -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965812 Title: After "apt upgrade" around Mar 18, shotwell desktop slideshow does not work any more To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1965812/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1961910] [NEW] Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug
Public bug reported: A new day, a new struggle with Ubuntu 22.04. So, I decided to get my daily updates and in the middle of the process the system just crashed, leaving me at the login page. When I got back, the wifi was no longer there and the network configuration was reporting an error about the network manager having problems. I shut down and restarted, the wifi came back. Went to the var/crash folder to report the bug with $:/var/crash$ ubuntu-bug _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash and it started complaining about older packages that need to be upgraded. I run `apt upgrade`, one of the packages is `dbus`, I tried `apt install dbus` and another even uglier crash that left me with a black screen from which I could only come back with a forced shutdown and restart. Now, how do I get out of this mess and report the bug? ** Affects: xwayland (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961910 Title: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xwayland/+bug/1961910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1961910] Re: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug
I tried to update again, it asked me to restart, restarted and now looks like there are no newer updates. I still cannot send the report with ubuntu-bug. When I hit send I get a popup with an error stating that there's a problem with gnome-shell and could be caused by the fact that I have older versions of some packages (accountsservice, bind9-host, bind9-libs, dbus, gir1.2-accountservice-1.0, gir1.2-nm-1.0, libaccountservice0, libsasl2-modules-db, libwhoopsie-preferences0, libwhoopsie0, libxml2, networkmanager, whoopsie-preferences) But when I try to upgrade them with apt upgrade it says they are all fine -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961910 Title: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xwayland/+bug/1961910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1961910] Re: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug
I no longer get crashes when updating (for the last 2 days it works) but I still cannot send bug reports when using `ubuntu-bug`. When I click Send I still see an error dialog with title `gnome-shell` and something about gnome older versions of some packages (accountsservice, bind9-host, bind9-libs, dbus, gir1.2-accountservice-1.0, gir1.2-nm-1.0, libaccountservice0, libsasl2-modules-db, libwhoopsie-preferences0, libwhoopsie0, libxml2, networkmanager, whoopsie-preferences) It's the only problem I have now. So, I cannot do step 1 from comment #8 by Daniel. I can do step 2 and I get these 2 links for the dates around the occurring of this problem - 2022-02-23 10:02 https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/dfb7270b-9488-11ec-bdec-fa163e102db1 Crash(gnome-shell) - 2022-02-22 13:02 https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/00444da8-93d2-11ec-91a1-fa163e983629 Crash(xdg-desktop-portal-gtk) - 2022-02-18 02:02 https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/c01523ae-9318-11ec-8699-fa163ee63de6 Crash(xwayland) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1961910 Title: Ubuntu 22 crash when updating, broken network manager and cannot report bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1961910/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
