[Bug 570480] [NEW] inconsistent padding in indicator-applet and indicator-applet-session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-applet OK, no big deal, but small things matter: in Indicator Applet Session the small dot next to the current status (available/busy/whatever) is 8px on the right of the left border, in Indicator Applet the «small “play” style triangle next to the application icon in the menu» has a padding of only 2px. Well, this inconsistency looks bad. I am not sure if it's a bug of the default theme or an indicator-applet one, I'm filing this against the latter, feel free to change this. [Bug 576744] [NEW] Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I'm on Lucid fully updated, gnome-power-manager 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 Sometimes I find hard to unlock the screen because I can't increase the brightness of my laptop display with multimedia keys (I think that's their name). This is really annoying when there is no other light source in the room and you can't literally see anything. [Bug 589289] [NEW] Brasero can't copy an AudioCD or burn a toc/bin image
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I was trying to make a copy of an AudioCD (with no copy protection or anything like that, it was simply a collection of home-recorded tracks), I inserted the CD, right clicked on the CD icon in Nautilus and clicked "Make a Copy". Brasero popped up, I clicked "Burn", but it failed giving me with no useful information. I somehow (I think I used cdrdao) ripped the CD to a bin/toc file and tried to burn from the image file instead of letting Brasero rip the CD, but it failed again, still for no apparent reason. The error message was in both occasions "All required applications and libraries are not installed. Please install the following manually and try again:.". Yeah, it ended like that, with no list of software to install. I tried burning the image on another machine (both are running Ubuntu Lucid), it asked me to install cdrdao and toc2cue (the latter is in the cdrdao package), which I did, but then it failed again, displaying the same error message I got on the first machine. I attached a not-so-useful screenshot. [Bug 589299] [NEW] Can't unlock screen when using a password-less account
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver I created a password-less account for my Mom, that is, in the Ubuntu Installer (or maybe later, using users-admin, I don't think it really matters) I created an account, inserted no password and checked the "don't ask for a password on login" checkbox. After tweaking the permissions a bit, it works fine for her. The only (quite big) problem is that when the screen is locked, either by locking it manually or after a user-switch, you simply can't unlock it, since it asks for a password that I never set. You are right, the diff is huge, but I really don't know why. I just made a couple of changes with Glade. Just opening main.glade with Glade (3.6.7) and saving it (without making any changes) changes the file quite a lot. I just removed hbox11 and added a new one with two columns and one gtkhbuttonbox for each column. One button on the left (help) and two on the right (revert and close); I also adjusted the padding of the gtkhbuttonboxes . It's 5 minutes of work. [Bug 515990] Re: software-properties-gtk "close" and "revert" buttons are too small
After more investigation, it looks like there are differences between on how glade 3.[4-5].x and 3.6.7 handle defaults properties, if someone had a working glade 3.[4-5].x installation, he could generate a much smaller diff. Sadly this is my only machine. The glade file is also affected by this [1] bug, on glade 3.6.7: it looks like all the vbox are treated like hbox. I expect the just created polkit-gnome-authorization to be focused. 2. What actually happened The polkit-gnome-authorization window is not focused 3. The minimal series of steps necessary to make it happen open update-manager when there are updates click "install updates" look at the unfocused polkit-gnome window I think this is a Compiz bug because with Metacity I don't have this problem. I'm using Karmic Beta and almost all packages are up to date. compiz - 1:0.8.3+git20091005-0ubuntu5 update-manager - 1:0.125.6 policykit-gnome - 0.9-1ubuntu3 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, move, resize, place, decoration, animation, ccp, imgjpeg, neg, workarounds, dbus, svg, vpswitch, png, video, text, regex, gnomecompat, extrawm, session, mousepoll, snap, resizeinfo, wall, shift, fade, scale, expo, ezoom, staticswitcher, scaleaddon] Date: Mon Oct 5 23:06:43 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 MachineType: Apple Inc. [Bug 775872] [NEW] Weird behavior with horizontal scrolling and indicators in Unity
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-sound I'm using a laptop with a touchpad that supports horizontal scrolling (and yes, I enabled it). In Unity (in the `Ubuntu Classic` session this doesn't happen) when I move the cursor over the sound indicator and try to scroll up/down to turn up/down the volume, the sound indicator (or any other indicator, but it only makes sense to scroll on the sound one) often popups like it was clicked. I guess what is registering is the horizontal scroll action, that sometimes accidentally triggers while scrolling vertically. Anyway, there is no reason why someone would expect the menu to open when scrolling horizontally, so I consider this a bug. This is especially frustrating because once opened, I have to move the cursor or click the indicator again to change the volume since scrolling on the indicator when the menu is opened does nothing. I'm not sure I should file this against the sound-menu indicator, since it works fine under the classic shell. [Bug 771581] [NEW] ssh host 'tmux new-session -d -s session' does not work anymore
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tmux I upgraded to natty just yesterday and it broke one of my scripts: after debugging I found out that the culprit is (probably) tmux: ssh host 'tmux new-session -d -s session' used to work on maverick, but it doesn't anymore. For the record I compiled tmux 1.4 (source from the project homepage) and it does work, so this is a bug in natty's tmux. It works for me but could be related to the changing of the socket directory. Well, I can't distribute the script, the command that fails is ssh host 'tmux new-session -d -s session' and I obviously tried it outside of the script. Sadly I haven't another Natty machine, so I can't test if it's a problem with my configuration (I find it unlikely, since I haven't really changed much and I also tried to run it from another user). [Bug 656039] Re: Total freeze of the system (general protection fault)
This happens once a day, it's super annoying and it's definitely a regression from Lucid. I had it happen while casual browsing, or editing stuff or whatever. Sometimes I'm able to ssh from another machine and use the sysrq magic keys echoing characters to /proc/sysrq-trigger, but I rarely get the machine to do a clean reboot. Sadly, no, sysrq key on my keyboard (macbook). -- Total freeze of the system (general protection fault) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656039 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 645397] [NEW] "Restart required" icon bad contrast with default panel background
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-mono The system-shutdown-panel-restart.svg is red, its combination with the default "fuscous gray" panel background makes it unpleasant, I don't know if low contrast is the issue here, but I dare you to read red text on fuscous gray without weeping. It's just a bad color combination, I don't even consider it a subjective matter. Besides, bright red is a bit "scary", it screams urgency, like something is wrong, which is not the case. IMHO a more subtle color should be chosen, yellow is commonly used for something that requires attention, orange would work too, but it's already used for icon folders and other stuff, so it may not stand out enough. Anyway, it's not my job to select a palette for this stuff, IIRC the Ayatana group was discussing this a while ago; that said, the chosen color should look fine with the default panel background. ** Affects: ubuntu-mono (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "Restart required" icon bad contrast with default panel background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/645397 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 625193] Re: Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing
I agree that "ugliness" is subjective, but seriously, 82 persons in less than 2 days confirmed that they find this wallpaper ugly; that is, 82 persons with an account considered this wallpaper so ugly that they checked on launchpad if there was a bug report about this and confirmed it, even though changing the wallpaper takes like 10 seconds! The preview of the new GTK theme was also released recently, but the same audience that is complaining about this wallpaper think it's nice, or at least not so bad to actually complaining so vigorously. Is there a very active bug report saying that the new theme is ugly? Has the Ubuntu Community ever complained SO much about the wallpaper? To me all this should be enough for the developers to reconsider the default wallpaper. -- Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/625193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
