[Bug 203349] Re: Broken plural forms in KDE
Me, I understand gordboy. For several months we have reported a bug bad translations that seems important (several errors of translation into several languages). We (the community) are ready to make corrections. But nothing happens. There are no updates. No message of responsible packages in question. FOSS say working with the community. The community is there. Perhaps inexperienced, but voluntary. What can be done? Yes this is reproductible, I do it again today Procedure to reproduce the bug -create a drawer applet on your top panel -run gconf-editor - disable animation on key :/apps/panel/toplevels/panel_0/enable_animations or/and /apps/panel/toplevels/panel_1/enable_animations (on my case i have two drawer object) - then test the drawer object one time it works fine the first time - then test a second time the drawer objet appears at the top left of my sceen I noticed that reenable the animation on the same key just after just bug more the drawer, it won't appear when cliking on it. [Bug 146900] Re: [gutsy][beta] Cannot get accelerated video, radeon 9200
Thanks for the quick update. Yesterday night's adept update, which updated the xorg ati driver, had no effect on the problem. Double-checked as per the instructions, fglrx package was removed ; but just to be sure, I did the following : aptitude remove --purge on the flgrx driver, then aptitude remove on libgl1-mesa-dri|glx. [Bug 146900] Re: [gutsy][beta] Cannot get accelerated video, radeon 9200
The swx packages were only installed temporarily (to satisfy dependecies) while the mesa ones had been removed (from aptitude) just to be sure everything was cleaned up. Apt-get reinstall on libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri hasn't solved the problem. To be on the safe side, I tried apt-get removing libgl1-mesa-dri, which also took X, KDE and xfce4 down, then reinstalling kubuntu-desktop letting apt-get handle the details... problem is still there. I've downloaded the beta CD and booted off it to confirm that I *do* have DRI when running the liveCD. I also have triple-checked that I don't have any fglrx-related package in the way. Everything reports uninstalled from apt-get, and confirmed by comparing dpkg -L and actual filesystem that no binary was left behind. dpkg -S libGL output (after complete takedown and reinstall of X and mesa-dri) : libgl1-mesa-glx: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libGLU.so.1.3.070001 libglu1-mesa: /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1.3.070001 ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libGLU.so.1 libgl1-mesa-glx: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 googleearth: /usr/lib/googleearth/libGLU.so.1 ia32-libs: /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 xserver-xorg-core: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libGLcore.so libglu1-mesa: /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1 Right now backing up prior to a complete reinstall from liveCD... -- [gutsy][beta] Cannot get accelerated video, radeon 9200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 146900] Re: [gutsy][beta] Cannot get accelerated video, radeon 9200
It is required to run 32-bit apps on 64-bits systems. VMWare for instance, or the Macromedia Flash plugin. It does provide the lib32/dri/* drivers which I guess would be needed by a 32-bit version of Xorg / libGL. Since I'm running a 64-bit system, libGL complains that /usr/lib32/r200_dri.so is 32-bit (per my first message), as expected. The 64-bit /usr/lib/dri/r200_dri.so is provided by libgl1-mesa-dri (64-bit pkg). Now if I understand correctly the debug info above, libGL complains about r200_dri.so while attempting to load it. The only "libGL" that I could find is libGL.so.1 which is provided either by xorg-driver-fglrx (removed and purged) *or* libgl1-mesa-glx (reinstalled several times). Looks like they're not in sync but I can't see how that happens. Anyway, I'll be away from that machine for a couple of weeks, and everything is backed up. I still have tomorrow to look into this, otherwise I'll probably just do a CD reinstall when I get back. Gutsy will be final by then. -- [gutsy][beta] Cannot get accelerated video, radeon 9200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164213] need-packaging burnstation
Public bug reported: Hi! The "Burnstation" concept and the burnstation programs seems to be a great project to share free contents and to transform a computer in a powerful "station" to create compilations of medias, burning it, and share it, etc... This project is not new, but there doesn't exist yet an easy way to install it on Ubuntu. There exists a debian depository but it can't work with ubuntu (bad depencies i guess). (deb http://burnstation.org/debian/ sarge main) The only way is to create packages for ubuntu from de subversion depository of the burnstation projet. Check this: http://tiki.burnstation.org/tiki-index.php?page=Burnstation.deb&bl This would be a great opportunity to join free culture projects with ubuntu and free software? Could someone create the long-awaited deposits or include the deb in univers or multiverse depository (if it is possible)? It will be very nice! ;) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: needs-packaging ** Tags added: needs-packaging -- need-packaging burnstation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164213 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 436599] [NEW] system monitor search glitch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor This is a UI glitch, not a bug: The program behaves correctly, but can be confusing. In the Processes window, typing any text initiates a text search for this text. If I try to initiate a search with a slash (/), as in various viewers and some versions of top, I get a search control but the search text is initialized with a slash... so it doesn't match what I meant to search for. [Bug 1577213] Re: qtcreator freezes and crashes all the time
Experiencing the same things on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or OpenSuse Leap 42.1. I'm only working on CMake projects. I'm not using boost but I do have a lot of project dependencies. [Bug 1415422] [NEW] Only runs as root, but should run as nonpriv user
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: As packaged, this daemon runs as root. There is no reason for this - all it needs is access to printer devices, a pidfile, and a lockfile. Instead, it should run as user "lp", which will give it access to the printer devices. As for the pidfile and lockfile, they are easily handled in the init.d script (though a one-line patch to the source could improve things minimally by removing the need to pre-touch the pidfile). I've attached a patch that does this, also allowing the user to choose a different user (even root) in /etc/defaults/p910nd. The man page could stand some customization but it's no worse with the patch than without. Since this involves a daemon that takes input from the network and that runs as root (until my patch), I'm marking this as a security vulnerability. Apologies in advance if that's the wrong choice- this is my first ubuntu submission. This patch also includes a drive-by fix of a tiny bug: the pidfile always has the same name. It shouldn't, as by design this daemon can run multiple times, once per printer, and the pidfile name is supposed to reflect the printer instance. This is for version 0.95-1 in 14.04.1; porting up to the current version should be trivial, if not a clean patch. Behavior is changed (daemon no longer runs as root) but this should be invisible to users. If you want to leave behavior as-is (which I think is a bad idea) then you can just change the default user back to root in /etc/default/p910nd, which will let those who want to run as lp by editing that file. ** Affects: p910nd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "patch to /etc/init.d/p910nd to run as user lp (or other nonroot)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1415422/+attachment/4307153/+files/p910nd.diff ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1415422 Title: Only runs as root, but should run as nonpriv user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/p910nd/+bug/1415422/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I follow your advice, Scott. To fixe that bug i've reinstalled my OS (great logic). On the bootable key and after the install, on the first boot, plymouth was ok. But on my system, KDE and all the system totaly freeze with the free graphic driver. On rescue mode, i've installed nvidia-current (304) to be able to use kde. After that, plymouth was again buggy, just like before. But, finaly, i found a way to fix that using superbootmanager (http://www.sourceslist.eu/projects/super-boot-manager/). Superbootmanager/plymouthmanager has an option to fix plymouth issues with non-free graphic driver. And THAT fixed that bug. Thank you for your great help . I got this issue too upgrading Kubuntu 10.10 with KDE 4.6 from PPA's backport: black screen, x errors,... Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
I'm sorry, but this is a little ridiculous. I read that thread, and this guy, Alan Stern, is saying that nobody else is reporting this problem?? Has he done the slightest bit of research into the issue? I've been a developer for 19 years and I've seen this too many times. I'm sorry, but its laziness on the developer's part. Everyone in the known universe using Ubuntu is having this issue. People have supplied debugging info over and over again. All it takes just a little initiative on the developer(s) responsible for this code to run their own test. I get the problem with *every* USB hub I try! Reproducing this would be as hard as shooting fish in a barrel. Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
I got riled up about Dave Abrahams saying that the linux-usb developers wanted console debug info and pointed to a thread where the bug triage guy was saying that nobody is reporting this issue. I was told to take a chill pill, and that I can't expect the kernel devs to test Ubuntu-specific issues. Well, I tested this with OpenSuse 11 and guess what? Same issue! I can do the developer's work for them and test on yet another distro, but I think I know what the outcome will be. Sorry, this does not seem to be Ubuntu specific. The bug reporting system is broken. But on to something more constructive. I did yet more testing and by removing the bluetooth kernel module as well as some others like some Acer-specific USB module that kept loading, I finally got it to the point where suspend/resume worked with the USB hub attached with my wireless mouse dongle plugged into it. I did a few suspend/resume cycles to make sure it was consistent. Then I plugged my keyboard into the USB hub and suspended. This hosed USB on resume. -- [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
Daniel, it's possible that what I'm seeing could be a different bug, but based on my experience I would say its the same bug but that a dock triggers slightly different/extra symptoms. The issue I'm seeing is reported by others in the same threads as your total lockup issue. I did experience the total lockup recently when I was attempting to get a Pinnacle USB TV tuner working. As soon as I plug it in I get total lockup, with the only way out being the "alt-sysrq" trick. In any case, again, this could not be Ubuntu specific because I reproduced it with Suse. -- [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Note that I have 8.10 now and it works. It looks like my script I posted here though. Thus I'm not too sure whether it was kept back or was upgraded... Thank you. Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
I second that. I tested upgrading to the beta release when it first came out, and the suspend/resume scenarios that previously failed were working beautifully. Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
Guys, you can't believe how happy I am with Intrepid. It feels very solid and the display looks sharper too. But best of all, I'm now able to fully trust the suspend/resume! I've tried all the previously failing scenarios and more, and it works every time. Battery like is much better also. I'll be glad to do any specific testing you need. I'll test it on all the hardware I have. On Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 10:49 PM, Leann Ogasawara <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Guys, > > Thanks for testing and the feedback. Daniel, I really won't have the time to test an alpha branch! I'm swamped with work these days! If I remember, I'll let you know once I have 8.10 installed... Thank you. [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
I'm using a Dell m1330 (4GB ram, nvidia graphics, Dell wireless module) and I'm seen this problem initially with 64-bit Hardy. After trying everything suggested on the net, I installed 32-bit Hardy, and I'm having the exact same symptoms. I don't have a dock, but I'm using a USB hub that I have a keyboard and mouse plugged into. I did some testing of different scenarios - different keyboards and mice, and different USB hubs - and can reproduce the problem very reliably. If I have any devices directly plugged into any or both of the machine's USB ports, suspend/resume work nicely (as far as USB goes anyway). However, if I have any USB hub attached, when I suspend, USB does not work on resume. A previous poster mentioned that his issue did not occur if he resumed without the dock that was attached at suspend time. This does not work for me. As long as a hub is attached at suspend time, USB is hosed on resume. I notice that the output of dmesg shows "USB disconnect" during resume (see below). This is consistent every time USB gets hosed on resume. [2.602386] ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) [2.605252] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133 [2.606852] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 390721968 512-byte hardware sectors (200050 MB) [2.606909] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off [2.606910] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 00 3a 00 00 [2.606982] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA [2.613191] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Starting disk [2.680851] PM: Finishing wakeup. I'm not a kernel developer so I can't pinpoint this, but something in the USB code hates USB hubs. -- [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
Dave, have you tried disabling bluetooth? Intrepid works great for me in terms of this issue, but with Hardy bluetooth seemed to have been a variable with a definite effect on my suspend/resume issues. [Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard
For the moment, the problem is solved by switching to "France (Legacy) Alternative", but I haven't tried to reboot the system nor X11. Rhythmbox is the first program to show this problem (for example Firefox + Ubiquity works pretty fine as "space" and "ctrl+space" are handled differently). -- Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 218760] Re: [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails
I installed the 2.6.27.2-generic kernel on Linux Mint 5 I my results are similar to Daniel's. This is with OR without the USB hub and devices plugged in. On resume, the screen is blank and it looks like the machine locked up. But in fact, the OS is active. I had to fly blind, but I did a ctl-F2, logged in blind, then issued a "sudo shutdown -r now" command. So, except for the blank video, its an improvement since USB isn't hosed. :) -- [regression] Dock with USB devices + suspend == resume fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
