[Bug 2092168] Re: rapiddisk-dkms FTBS in Noble with linux-6.11-hwe kernel

2024-12-19 Thread Massimiliano Pellizzer
The debdiff in attach allows to build rapiddisk-dkms on linux-6.11. It
is a clean backport of the Oracular package.

The dkms has been tested both on linux-6.8 (to spot possible regressions) and
on linux-6.11.
The package builds correctly.

The module has been also loaded on both linux-6.8 and linux-6.11 without
any error showing in the message buffer of the kernel.

[Bug 2092225] [NEW] Add AMD Navi44/48 support

2024-12-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Products with Navi 44 / Navi 48 need new firmware. Matching kernel
support is already in kernel 6.11. Without those amdgpu FWs won't bind
to accelerated graphics mode.

[Test case]

Install the update, and on noble also install hwe-6.11/oem-6.11 kernel on a
system with a Navi 44/48 GPU. Check that accelerated graphics works, check
dmesg that the firmware has loaded, and
run for instance 'glxinfo -B | grep renderer' and check that it does not say
'llvmpipe' but 'radeonsi, ...'.

[Where problems might happen]

These are all new firmware files, so there should be no impact on
shipping hardware.

** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 2092228] [NEW] HTTP/2 not well supported in libcurl4 8.5.0

2024-12-19 Thread Duncan Chaundy
Public bug reported:

We use libcurl for PKCE purposes on Ubuntu 24.04 with libcurl4 8.5.0. By
default it uses HTTP/2 but this returns errors about an invalid request
until we set curl options to only use HTTP 1.1. This issue has been
fixed by curl 8.10.0.

[Bug 2092204] [NEW] Crackling audio in kernel 6.8.0-50 or newer

2024-12-19 Thread James McKenzie
Public bug reported:

Audio is working fine on kernel 6.8.0-49 or lower. But after upgrading, I am
getting constant crackling or distortion in any audio source on my computer.
I have confirmed the issue by rolling back to a previous kernel version.

It's the same for any music/video file I play, and for streamed content
via a browser.

Audio is played through my monitor speakers over DisplayPort connection
from my AMD GPU.

[Bug 2092205] [NEW] Using /etc/flash-kernel/machine in risc-v images does not permit building generic images

2024-12-19 Thread Adriano Cordova Fedeli
Public bug reported:

In live-build/ubuntu-cpc/hooks.d/base/disk-image-uefi-non-cloud.binar we
currently write file /etc/flash-kernel/machine to control which device-
tree is copied to /boot and in subsequently to generate a devicetree
comand in grub.cfg.

We have only one image for the VisionFive 2 board but there are two
revisions (1.2A, 1.3B) which require different device-trees.

Instead of wrigint /etc/flash-kernel/machine, all device-trees of the
current kernel could be copied to /boot/efi/dts/. U-Boot will then
search this directory for a file called $filename and load it. Whenever
the kernel will be updated, flash-kernel will copy the updated device-
tree to /boot and GRUB will pick it up.

[Bug 2092209] Re: Can't enter passphrase for encrypted disk on splash screen

2024-12-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2092209/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 2092061] Re: openvpn-dco-dkms FTBS in Noble with linux-6.11-hwe kernel

2024-12-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Massimiliano, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openvpn-dco-dkms into noble-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openvpn-
dco-dkms/0.0+git20231103-1ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
noble to verification-done-noble. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-noble. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 2062951] Re: Random flickering with Intel i915 (Gen4+ GPUs) on Linux

2024-12-19 Thread Gerhard Burger
Disabling PSR2 doesn't do anything for me... Also testing 6.11 doesn't
do anything to solve the issue. I'm starting to think I may have a
separate issue.

Could someone check https://photos.app.goo.gl/at33cQcpw6wrvAqW7 to see
if this is a separate problem? Somewhere in the boot process the screen
switches to a sort of "interlaced left/right" mode. While using the
laptop, the screen is 90% in this interlaced left/right output, and
randomly flickers back and forth to the normal output.

[Bug 2092222] [NEW] ata: libata-scsi: Honor the D_SENSE bit for CK_COND=1 and no error

2024-12-19 Thread phaze75
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I’m running Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 6.8.0-51-generic x86_64) as a
guest system in Proxmox VE 8.3.2. I have connected a WD SATA-HDD via
passthrough directly to the Ubuntu guest system. It is mountable and
works flawlessly.

However, I want it to spin down to “standby” state if it is not in use.
So, I ran the “hdparm” command to check the current power mode status.
The status of the SATA-HDD had been “idle” or “active” at this point:

root@xyz:~# hdparm -C /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 20 00 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 drive state is: standby

As you can see, “hdparm” threw an error and returned the wrong power
mode state “standby”. I doublechecked by touching the SATA-HDD. It was
spinning and the head was moving.

After, I did some googling and found a post in the Majaro (sorry!) forum
exactly matching this issue:
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/ata-libata-scsi-sense-data-errors-breaking-hdparm-with-wd-drives/166634/10

The post also points out the solution - a kernel fix as part of the
linux6.10.6-1 point release:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/libata/linux.git/commit/?id=fa0db8e5

Now my request - Could you please add this fix also to one of the next point
releases of Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS’s “Linux 6.8.0-5x” kernel?
I would really like to avoid introducing a “custom” kernel into my
100%-standard Ubuntu LTS system.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 2081605] Re: 3.32.2 Deprecated

2024-12-19 Thread Marian Brockerhoff
The project is hosted on https://flathub.org
The actual 4.5 can be installed on 24.04 using flatpak
https://flathub.org/apps/com.belmoussaoui.Authenticator

As the developer pointed out,
the version 3.32.2+dfsg1-5 as currently available on 24.04 is dated and has
possible security implications beside other possible inconsistencies.
Thus should be updated or replaced by dummy link or removed on the deb
repositories as ubuntu LTS should not carry such dated packages arguably.

Lost databases can be restored from the database file e.g database-7.db
The developer linked me to a script for this purpose (not sure if this works as
i solved the issue by other means.)

This SRU is related to bug #1918145, which reported slow RBAC queries in

[Bug 2091990] Re: ovs/linuxbridge jobs running on ubuntu jammy broken with latest kernel 5.15.0-127.137

2024-12-19 Thread Toni Spets
I enabled the proposed2 PPA as archive.ubuntu.com proposed hadn't
updated yet and have these kernels currently installed:

ii linux-image-5.15.0-127-generic 5.15.0-127.137
amd64Signed kernel image generic
ii linux-image-5.15.0-128-generic 5.15.0-128.138
amd64Signed kernel image generic
ii linux-image-5.15.0-130-generic 5.15.0-130.140
amd64Signed kernel image generic

Only 130 works, the two previous ones brick Kubernetes nodes with
calico.

@roxanan Is this enough to push the fix forward quickly? Thanks!

[Bug 2088333] Re: Chromium - printer unavailable - apparmor denial

2024-12-19 Thread Till Kamppeter
The problem here is how Chromium obtains the printer capabilities
(available paper sizes, trays, resolutions, duplex, ...) to display them
in the print dialog and give the user the possibility to choose from
them.

Chromium reads the capabilities from the printer's PPD files in
/etc/cups/ppd/QUEUE_NAME.ppd. This works with a classic (*.deb packages)
installation of Chromium and the current version of CUPS (2.x) without
problems.

Now Chromium comes as a Snap, so it cannot read the host's file system
any more. snapd uses AppArmor to prevent that, therefore we see these
"... audit ... DENIED ..." messages in syslog.

Due to the fact that we are moving to immutable distros and sandboxed,
distro-independent packaging, this way how the print dialog works is not
suitable any more. We will also get CUPS 3.x next year which by nature
does not support PPD files at all any more, as PPD files are from the
old times of PostScript printers and nowadays we have IPP (Internet
Printing Protocol) printers which tell their capabilities by themselves.

Therefore I have, as part of my OpenPrinting work, conducted a change on
Chromium's print dialog, to not access CUPS and PPDs directly any more,
but use OpenPrinting's Common Print Dialog Backends instead. This is a
D-Bus protocol where the print dialog talks via D-Bus with backends, one
for each print technology in use (CUPS, cloud printing services, ...).
The D-Bus communication works over sandbox boundaries and also the
dialog does not deal with PPDs any more.

The implementation work was done in the Google Summer of Code 2023, by
Kushagra Sharma:

https://github.com/kushagra20251/GSoC/

The project is now available as a merge request to Chromium upstream and
needs to get merged:

https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/5007092

What is needed now is that this code gets merged, so that we have a
future-proof print dialog in Chromium.

[Bug 2092181] [NEW] Shift on on screen keyboard acts like caps lock

2024-12-19 Thread eraserix
Public bug reported:

When I short press the shift key on the OSK, it stays set after a letter
has been written. It should revert back to unset like e.g. on Android.

Report of regression upstream:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/7714
MR with fix: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/3286/

The patches from the MR apply and during a short test, the problem has been
fixed and my machine did not go up in flames.

[Bug 2092182] [NEW] bridge help message wrong for -compressvlans

2024-12-19 Thread Brian Candler
Public bug reported:

The "bridge" command gives the following help message:

# bridge
Usage: bridge [ OPTIONS ] OBJECT { COMMAND | help }
bridge [ -force ] -batch filename
where  OBJECT := { link | fdb | mdb | vlan | monitor }
   OPTIONS := { -V[ersion] | -s[tatistics] | -d[etails] |
-o[neline] | -t[imestamp] | -n[etns] name |
-c[ompressvlans] -color -p[retty] -j[son] }

The implication is that "-c" is a shortcut for "-compressvlans".

However this is not true. "-c" or "-co" act the same as "-color". But
you can give "-com" as a shorthand for "-compressvlans".

Suggested change to help text:

-com[pressvlans] | -c[olor] | -p[retty] | -j[son] }

iproute2 version: 5.15.0-1ubuntu2
Ubuntu version: 22.04.5

Aside: it's not clear to me how to report bugs directly upstream for
iproute2, which is why I'm reporting it here.

[Bug 2092177] Re: smifb2-dkms FTBS in Noble with linux-6.11-hwe kernel

2024-12-19 Thread Massimiliano Pellizzer
The debdiff in attach allows to build smifb2-dkms on linux-6.11.

The new dkms has been tested both on linux-6.8 (to spot possible regressions)
and on linux-6.11.
The package builds correctly.

The module has been also loaded on both linux-6.8 and linux-6.11 without
any error showing in the message buffer of the kernel.

Re: [Bug 2092159] Re: 22.05 install fails while 24.04 install, using same media, succeeds

2024-12-19 Thread Wiliam Rust
Hi,

I downloaded 22.04 again and wrote it to one of my sd cards. I then tried
installing it next to the 24.04 that I had installed earlier. Again, I used
the same sd card for installing both 22.04 and 24.04. The destination ssd
is a 1TB evo pro. Again, the 22.04 install failed part way through at the
same place it failed before. I tried an apt update, etc. but that failed
miserably.

So, I tried installing 22.04 server which worked, although I did wind up
erasing 24.04 due to the less than user-friendly partitioning step. I then
installed ubuntu-desktop and everything now seems to be working. ROS humble
is working without the docker container which adds a whole another set of
problems that I can now avoid.

Anyway, thanks for your help,

wjr

[Bug 2092207] [NEW] Games have weird static with fractional scaling in Ubuntu 25.04

2024-12-19 Thread Alexander Koskovich
Public bug reported:

Already have a bug report upstream in mutter (though closed:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/3721).

Wanted to open one here too since Ubuntu has enabled this feature by
default for 25.04, and it will make all games unplayable for people
using fractional scaling (which is effectively required if you have a
32" 4K display).

Without xwayland-native-scaling, games render at half of native
resolution, but still better than static spraying across your screen.

[Bug 2088997] Re: Second screen completely frozen, some windows stuck

2024-12-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Any extension in $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ is not
officially supported by Ubuntu, and so usually needs to be removed to
prove it's not causing bugs.

But adding MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple to /etc/environment
changes the kernel API used for screen updates and that alone might fix
your problem like in other bugs:

2024-12-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. It sounds like you might not have an Nvidia
driver installed, which would prevent the HDMI port from working on a
hybrid machine. Please run:

  apport-collect 2088954
  lspci -k > lspci.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

  [Regression Potential]

The patch adds the symbols fmod/fmodf for static builds for i386 and m68k.
The changes are arch specific, so any regression would affect i386 and m68k
for the static libm.a.

I suggest asking on Ubuntu Discourse for some help to diagnose and fix
this.

2024-12-19 Thread RO1
I have the same problem.

/var/log/vault/audit_test.log {
maxsize 1G
rotate 4
compress
delaycompress

copytruncate
su vault_test vault_test
}

and the timer:

systemctl cat logrotate.timer

The logfile fills in 1h the size of 1GB

[Bug 2092209] [NEW] Can't enter passphrase for encrypted disk on splash screen

2024-12-19 Thread David B
Public bug reported:

The system has an encrypted disk (/dev/mapper/nvme1n1p4_crypt) that is to be
mounted on /data at boot time. During the boot process:
* The default splash screen appears
* A splash screen prompting for the crypt password appears for a couple of
seconds. During this time I can enter a few characters.
* The screen goes blank for a second or two.
* The splash screen prompting for the crypt password reappears. It contains
dots for the characters that I entered previously. But, it doesn't accept any
more input. Ctl-Alt-Del does work, and is the only escape that I've found from
the hung condition.

If I boot without "splash" (by editing the GRUB vmlinuz line), I am
prompted for the password, and I can enter it in the terminal, and the
boot process and mount all succeed.

I've created a plymouth-debug.log. The following region of the log
looks suspicious to me:

{{{

00:00:06.097 ../src/libply/ply-event-loop.c:781:ply_event_loop_stop_watchin:

}}}

BTW... I'm using the nvidia driver. I mention this because the above
lines from the plymouth log look as though the display is changed, and
the event loop stops watching the keyboard while the password splash is
awaiting input.

I'm also curious if it normal for plymouth to check the size of the
password prompt 3 times.

The same behavior is described in

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1535684/cant-enter-passphrase-for-encrypted-disk-on-splash-screen

However, I have additional information (e.g., the plymouth log) that
might be pertinent.

System info:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu

GNU/Linux

/proc/fb contains: 0 i915drmfb

Kernel driver in use: nvidia
Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

Should I file this as a bug against plymouth?

[Bug 2085246] Re: Merge libvirt from Debian unstable for plucky

2024-12-19 Thread Andreas Hasenack
This merge introduced a component mismatch[1], as follows:

a) libvirt-sanlock (in universe) was renamed to libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock
b) libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock became a NEW binary package, and it was
accepted into MAIN (since src:libvirt is in main)
b1) bin:libvirt-sanlock became a transitional package, and it remains in
universe
c) libvirt-daemon from debian had a Recommends on
bin:libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock
d) libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock depends on packages in universe
(libsanlock-client1, augeas-tools) <-- component mismatch
e) libvirt-daemon's Recommends tries to keep libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock in
main

libvirt 10.10.0-1ubuntu2[1] was uploaded replacing the recommends from
(c) to a suggests.

The solution is to demote bin:libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock to universe,
which is where it was before the rename.
