[Bug 2092205] [NEW] Using /etc/flash-kernel/machine in risc-v images does not permit building generic images
Public bug reported: In live-build/ubuntu-cpc/hooks.d/base/disk-image-uefi-non-cloud.binar we currently write file /etc/flash-kernel/machine to control which device- tree is copied to /boot and in subsequently to generate a devicetree comand in grub.cfg. We have only one image for the VisionFive 2 board but there are two revisions (1.2A, 1.3B) which require different device-trees. Instead of wrigint /etc/flash-kernel/machine, all device-trees of the current kernel could be copied to /boot/efi/dts/. U-Boot will then search this directory for a file called $filename and load it. Whenever the kernel will be updated, flash-kernel will copy the updated device- tree to /boot and GRUB will pick it up. ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2092205 Title: Using /etc/flash-kernel/machine in risc-v images does not permit building generic images To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+bug/2092205/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2092209/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 2092222] [NEW] ata: libata-scsi: Honor the D_SENSE bit for CK_COND=1 and no error
Public bug reported: Hi, I’m running Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 6.8.0-51-generic x86_64) as a guest system in Proxmox VE 8.3.2. I have connected a WD SATA-HDD via passthrough directly to the Ubuntu guest system. It is mountable and works flawlessly. However, I want it to spin down to “standby” state if it is not in use. So, I ran the “hdparm” command to check the current power mode status. The status of the SATA-HDD had been “idle” or “active” at this point: root@xyz:~# hdparm -C /dev/sdb /dev/sdb: SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 drive state is: standby As you can see, “hdparm” threw an error and returned the wrong power mode state “standby”. I doublechecked by touching the SATA-HDD. It was spinning and the head was moving. After, I did some googling and found a post in the Majaro (sorry!) forum exactly matching this issue: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/ata-libata-scsi-sense-data-errors-breaking-hdparm-with-wd-drives/166634/10 The post also points out the solution - a kernel fix as part of the linux6.10.6-1 point release: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/libata/linux.git/commit/?id=fa0db8e5 Now my request - Could you please add this fix also to one of the next point releases of Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS’s “Linux 6.8.0-5x” kernel? The performance issue was addressed upstream through modifying the SQL queries [1] and using a GROUP BY clause in the Neutron lib [2]. Looking at the Ubuntu Neutron lib package [3], this group by optimization clause is missing in stable/yoga and stable/antelope, although it present in Zed, Bobcat, and Caracal Resources: [1] https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/neutron/+/884877 (Upstream neutron change in preparation of the library optimization) [2] https://github.com/openstack/neutron- lib/commit/829e97024c2b73dd67bfd8a04c65f03be556eec8 (Neutron lib group by optimization change) [3] https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-openstack- dev/ubuntu/+source/python-neutron-lib/+git/python-neutron-lib (Ubuntu Neutron lib in the UCA) ** Affects: python-neutron-lib (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2092217 Title: [SRU] Missing Group-By Optimization Backport in Yoga and Antelope To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-neutron-lib/+bug/2092217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2088333] Re: Chromium - printer unavailable - apparmor denial
The problem here is how Chromium obtains the printer capabilities (available paper sizes, trays, resolutions, duplex, ...) to display them in the print dialog and give the user the possibility to choose from them. Chromium reads the capabilities from the printer's PPD files in /etc/cups/ppd/QUEUE_NAME.ppd. This works with a classic (*.deb packages) installation of Chromium and the current version of CUPS (2.x) without problems. Now Chromium comes as a Snap, so it cannot read the host's file system any more. snapd uses AppArmor to prevent that, therefore we see these "... audit ... DENIED ..." messages in syslog. Due to the fact that we are moving to immutable distros and sandboxed, distro-independent packaging, this way how the print dialog works is not suitable any more. We will also get CUPS 3.x next year which by nature does not support PPD files at all any more, as PPD files are from the old times of PostScript printers and nowadays we have IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) printers which tell their capabilities by themselves. Therefore I have, as part of my OpenPrinting work, conducted a change on Chromium's print dialog, to not access CUPS and PPDs directly any more, but use OpenPrinting's Common Print Dialog Backends instead. This is a D-Bus protocol where the print dialog talks via D-Bus with backends, one for each print technology in use (CUPS, cloud printing services, ...). The D-Bus communication works over sandbox boundaries and also the dialog does not deal with PPDs any more. The implementation work was done in the Google Summer of Code 2023, by Kushagra Sharma: https://github.com/kushagra20251/GSoC/ The project is now available as a merge request to Chromium upstream and needs to get merged: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/5007092 What is needed now is that this code gets merged, so that we have a future-proof print dialog in Chromium. ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2088333 Title: Chromium - printer unavailable - apparmor denial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/2088333/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2092182] [NEW] bridge help message wrong for -compressvlans

Re: [Bug 2092159] Re: 22.05 install fails while 24.04 install, using same media, succeeds
Hi, I downloaded 22.04 again and wrote it to one of my sd cards. I then tried installing it next to the 24.04 that I had installed earlier. Again, I used the same sd card for installing both 22.04 and 24.04. The destination ssd is a 1TB evo pro. Again, the 22.04 install failed part way through at the same place it failed before. I tried an apt update, etc. but that failed miserably. So, I tried installing 22.04 server which worked, although I did wind up erasing 24.04 due to the less than user-friendly partitioning step. I then installed ubuntu-desktop and everything now seems to be working. ROS humble is working without the docker container which adds a whole another set of problems that I can now avoid. Anyway, thanks for your help, wjr On Thu, Dec 19, 2024 at 1:55 AM Paul White <2092...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > From UbiquitySyslog.txt which has been added to this bug report: > > Dec 19 03:27:14 ubuntu kernel: [ 281.441001] SQUASHFS error: zlib > decompression failed, data probably corrupt > Dec 19 03:27:14 ubuntu kernel: [ 281.441012] SQUASHFS error: Failed to > read block 0x4bfc21cb: -5 > > It's possible you had a bad write to your installation media or for some > other reason its contents could not be read correctly. [Bug 2088997] Re: Second screen completely frozen, some windows stuck
Any extension in $HOME/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ is not officially supported by Ubuntu, and so usually needs to be removed to prove it's not causing bugs. [Bug 2092209] [NEW] Can't enter passphrase for encrypted disk on splash screen
Public bug reported: The system has an encrypted disk (/dev/mapper/nvme1n1p4_crypt) that is to be mounted on /data at boot time. During the boot process: * The default splash screen appears * A splash screen prompting for the crypt password appears for a couple of seconds. During this time I can enter a few characters. * The screen goes blank for a second or two. * The splash screen prompting for the crypt password reappears. It contains dots for the characters that I entered previously. But, it doesn't accept any more input. Ctl-Alt-Del does work, and is the only escape that I've found from the hung condition. If I boot without "splash" (by editing the GRUB vmlinuz line), I am prompted for the password, and I can enter it in the terminal, and the boot process and mount all succeed. I've created a plymouth-debug.log. The following region of the log looks suspicious to me: {{{ 00:00:06.096 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-device-manager.c:1034:create_pix: Adding displays for 1 heads 00:00:06.096 ../src/main.c:1143:on_pixel_display_added : pixel display added after splash loaded, so attaching to splash 00:00:06.096 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-boot-splash.c:142:ply_boot_splas: adding 1728x1080 pixel display 00:00:06.096 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-boot-splash.c:145:ply_boot_splas: Splash already shown, so pausing display until next frame update 00:00:06.097 ../src/plugins/controls/label-pango/plugin.c:325:size_control : Text 'Please enter passphrase for disk PC801 NVMe SK hynix 1TB (nvme1n1p4_crypt) on /data:' has dimensions 668x23 00:00:06.097 ../src/plugins/controls/label-pango/plugin.c:325:size_control : Text 'Please enter passphrase for disk PC801 NVMe SK hynix 1TB (nvme1n1p4_crypt) on /data:' has dimensions 668x23 00:00:06.097 ../src/plugins/controls/label-pango/plugin.c:325:size_control : Text 'Please enter passphrase for disk PC801 NVMe SK hynix 1TB (nvme1n1p4_crypt) on /data:' has dimensions 668x23 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply-splash-graphics/ply-label.c:89:ply_label_free : Unloading label control plugin 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-device-manager.c:1148:create_dev: activating renderer 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-device-manager.c:1172:create_dev: activating keyboards 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-keyboard.c:376:ply_keyboard_watc: Watching for keyboard input from renderer 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-boot-splash.c:165:ply_boot_splas: removing 1728x1080 pixel display 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply-splash-core/ply-keyboard.c:395:ply_keyboard_stop: No longer watching for keyboard input from renderer 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply/ply-event-loop.c:765:ply_event_loop_stop_watchin: stopping watching fd 7 00:00:06.097 ../src/libply/ply-event-loop.c:781:ply_event_loop_stop_watchin: removing destination for fd 7 }}} BTW... I'm using the nvidia driver. I mention this because the above lines from the plymouth log look as though the display is changed, and the event loop stops watching the keyboard while the password splash is awaiting input. I'm also curious if it normal for plymouth to check the size of the password prompt 3 times. The same behavior is described in https://askubuntu.com/questions/1535684/cant-enter-passphrase-for-encrypted-disk-on-splash-screen However, I have additional information (e.g., the plymouth log) that might be pertinent. I tried setting /sys/class/drm/card1/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level to "low", letting the display go into power save and woke it up. Same garbled display. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091205 Title: Screen garbled after screen returns from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu/+bug/2091205/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2088333] Re: Chromium - printer unavailable - apparmor denial
Can you first ascertain whether this problem remains with the GTK printing dialog? I.e., start Chromium with chromium --disable-print-preview and try to print, does it work then? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2088333 Title: Chromium - printer unavailable - apparmor denial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/2088333/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2085246] Re: Merge libvirt from Debian unstable for plucky
This merge introduced a component mismatch[1], as follows: a) libvirt-sanlock (in universe) was renamed to libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock b) libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock became a NEW binary package, and it was accepted into MAIN (since src:libvirt is in main) b1) bin:libvirt-sanlock became a transitional package, and it remains in universe c) libvirt-daemon from debian had a Recommends on bin:libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock d) libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock depends on packages in universe (libsanlock-client1, augeas-tools) <-- component mismatch e) libvirt-daemon's Recommends tries to keep libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock in main libvirt 10.10.0-1ubuntu2[1] was uploaded replacing the recommends from (c) to a suggests. The solution is to demote bin:libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock to universe, which is where it was before the rename. $ ./change-override --dry-run -s plucky-proposed -c universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock Override component to universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock 10.10.0-1ubuntu2 in plucky amd64: universe/admin/optional/100% -> universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock 10.10.0-1ubuntu2 in plucky arm64: universe/admin/optional/100% -> universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock 10.10.0-1ubuntu2 in plucky armhf: universe/admin/optional/100% -> universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock 10.10.0-1ubuntu2 in plucky ppc64el: universe/admin/optional/100% -> universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock 10.10.0-1ubuntu2 in plucky riscv64: universe/admin/optional/100% -> universe libvirt-daemon-plugin-sanlock 10.10.0-1ubuntu2 in plucky s390x: universe/admin/optional/100% -> universe Dry run; no publications overridden. ... and looks like someone did it already 1. https://ubuntu-archive-team.ubuntu.com/proposed-migration/update_excuses.html#libvirt (this link won't show it later, after the component mismatch is resolved) 2. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/10.10.0-1ubuntu2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2085246 Title: Merge libvirt from Debian unstable for plucky To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/2085246/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
