[Bug 1974063] [NEW] system load indicator does not show memory usage, ignoring preferences
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Running Ubuntu 22.04: First, the System Load Indicator (indicator-multiload) did not respect my preferences to display Memory Usage, which is the only thing I need displayed in the upper bar. I could click on the indicator and a drop down would show me the memory load and other statistics, but I wanted it constantly displayed in the bar. This used to work, before upgrading to 22.04. Now we come to a more serious problem: I started messing around with the Preference tab for System Load Indicator. I thought increasing the "System Monitor Width" setting above 40 pixels might help. I increased it way more than that, perhaps to 600. The system stopped working. The mouse refused to move. No keystrokes did anything. Eventually, the screen went black and pushed me out to the login page, but upon logging in, the same problems persisted. I finally tried doing an emergency root login and doing apt remove indicator-multiload. Now I could log in and have a normally functioning system. But I wanted the indicator, so I did sudo apt install indicator-multiload, and the problems returned. Evidently some bad configuration setting had persisted through the removal. So I removed it again, and that's where I am now. So a few questions: 1) What is the "System Monitor Width" setting in Preferences for, and should it not prevent a catastrophically bad value from being entered? 2) In what file does this application store this preference, so that I might fix it and reinstall the monitor, and run the system? 3) How can I force the indicator to display the memory usage in the top bar as I want to do. ** Affects: indicator-multiload (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- system load indicator does not show memory usage, ignoring preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1974068] [NEW] Touchpad tapping not working after upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04
Public bug reported: I have an Intel NUC pc with Ubuntu, recently upgraded to 22.04. I use a Logitech wireless keyboard K830 with integrated touchpad. I don't know why, as the compiler should be essentially the same between Debian and Ubuntu - and I've ruled out this being a problem of the -O3 default that exists in Ubuntu packaging but not in Debian. ** Affects: gcc-11 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974069 Title: warning: ‘__builtin_memset’ specified size between 18446744071562067968 and 184467440737095516 15 exceeds maximum object size 9223372036854775807 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-11/+bug/1974069/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1969307] Re: Firefox Snap launcher keeps disappearing from Unity launcher
This has been happening to me since 21.10. I wanted to add that I have the Firefox launcher as a favorite in Unity which as far as I can tell remains in place consistently. However, Firefox sessions, which I believe are what this bug report is targeting, do disappear at times. I have attached two screenshots, one of which shows my screen with an open Firefox window open but no orange dot in Unity reflecting that. The second screenshot shows the tab moved to a new Firefox window and the orange dot returns (but the orange dot will go away if the tab is moved back to the original window). As another piece of data, if I have multiple Firefox windows open and scattered across virtual desktops, while initially all the Unity launchers on each desktop have one orange dot showing the presence of an active Firefox window, when the bug hits then all the orange dots on all virtual desktops go away (unless of course I launch a new Firefox session). ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2022-05-18 10-21-48.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1969307/+attachment/5590951/+files/Screenshot%20from%202022-05-18%2010-21-48.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969307 Title: Firefox Snap launcher keeps disappearing from Unity launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1969307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1974075] [NEW] fwupd-refresh.service fails to start on focal
Public bug reported: Hello, since the 18 of April 2020 some of my Ubuntu 20.04 (focal) installations report the following error: May 18 17:27:06 city systemd[1]: Starting Refresh fwupd metadata and update motd... May 18 17:27:06 city systemd[1]: Failed to start Refresh fwupd metadata and update motd. At first I thought this is sporadic and will go away, but since one month this error is reported constantly. [Bug 1971109] Re: [BPO] Backport opencpn 5.6.2 from Kinetic to Jammy
Looks mostly ok, couple of questions though: 1) the description says 5.6.2 has several important bugfixes; if that means the 5.6.0 version in jammy is affected by those bugs, the correct approach is to patch that version to fix the bugs. The backports pocket shouldn't be used *instead* of the SRU process. Can you clarify if there are bugs in 5.6.0 in jammy that should be fixed? 2) I'm confused about 0004-Build-Use-20.04-plugins-on-22.04.patch; I see it's setting the plugin target version to 20.04, but how does that get the plugins from 20.04? It doesn't expect to get plugins from 20.04, right? Are the plugins included in the source, but expecting a '20.04' build? Or does the application download plugins from some external source at runtime? Or something else? I think it would be good to add some clarification either to the patch header, and/or here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1971109 Title: [BPO] Backport opencpn 5.6.2 from Kinetic to Jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/opencpn/+bug/1971109/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1974079] [NEW] Firefox and Thunderbird fail to open after recent updates
Public bug reported: System Info: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Firefox 100.0 (64 bit) Thunderbird 91.8.1 (64 bit) Received various updates yesterday which required a reboot. After reboot, base system operates fine, but Thunderbird and Firefox fail to open. As far as I can tell, these are the only applications affected. Tried to file a ubuntu-bug report but Firefox was the default browser, so that failed as well. I switched to Chromium as default and the bug report succeeds. Launching either Firefox or Thunderbird in Safe Mode from the terminal succeeds. As a troubleshooting step, I attempted to Mark All Upgrades, only files available were: apt (2.0.6) to 2.0.8 apt-utils (2.0.6) to 2.0.8 libapt-pkg6.0 (2.0.6) to 2.0.8 login (1:4.8.1-1ubuntu5.20.04.1) to 1:4.8.1-1ubuntu5.20.04.2 passwd (1:4.8.1-1ubuntu5.20.04.1) to 1:4.8.1-1ubuntu5.20.04.2 Of special note: yesterdays automatic updates do not appear in Synaptic History. The only updates which appear in recent History are the ones I manually applied. They do appear when using : find /var/lib/dpkg/info/ -name \*.list -mtime -3 | sed 's#.list$##;s#.*/##' This produces this list: mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64 systemd-sysv gnome-control-center libc6-dbg:amd64 mesa-va-drivers:amd64 libpcre3:i386 libpam-systemd:amd64 libldap-2.4-2:amd64 apport python3-apport libc6-i386 libc6:amd64 libpcre3:amd64 systemd-timesyncd libdrm-common libxatracker2:amd64 gnome-control-center-faces libegl-mesa0:amd64 udev libdrm-intel1:amd64 sbsigntool libc6-dev:amd64 libc6:i386 libglapi-mesa:amd64 libldap-common login libdrm-nouveau2:amd64 systemd ubuntu-advantage-tools gnome-control-center-data mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 libdrm-amdgpu1:amd64 openssh-client libtiff5:amd64 apt-utils locales python3-problem-report libtiff5:i386 apt libapt-pkg6.0:amd64 apport-gtk libc-dev-bin libdrm-radeon1:amd64 libgbm1:amd64 libsystemd0:i386 libsystemd0:amd64 libdrm2:amd64 libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 libc-bin libxml2:amd64 passwd libudev1:i386 libnss-systemd:amd64 libudev1:amd64 libglx-mesa0:amd64 libxml2:i386 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: ubuntu-release-upgrader-core 1:20.04.38 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-40.45~20.04.1-generic 5.13.19 Uname: Linux 5.13.0-40-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.24 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CrashDB: ubuntu CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Wed May 18 14:58:07 2022 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-08-05 (650 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: ubuntu-release-upgrader Symptom: release-upgrade UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) VarLogDistupgradeAptlog: Log time: 2021-08-22 16:56:14.687667 Starting pkgProblemResolver with broken count: 0 Starting 2 pkgProblemResolver with broken count: 0 Done None ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug dist-upgrade focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974079 Title: Firefox and Thunderbird fail to open after recent updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1974079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1971109] Re: [BPO] Backport opencpn 5.6.2 from Kinetic to Jammy
As for 1): My initial description could and should have been better. I'm actually not aware of bugs that can and should be fixed by point patches. That is, the description is wrong. The core problem the backport tries to address is that OpenCPN users (thousands, for sure) are accustomed to using a PPA [1] These packages are not really "packaged" in the sense we are used to, there is no source package, no review, etc -- it's basically the auto-generated output from cmake/cpack. However, the PPA is up to date with the latest releases. If we want to offer proper repos instead, backports are necessary to make the official packaging useful. Until we get this running there are no issues reported through the Ubuntu channels. If I look in upstream there are of course all sorts of problems which are solved by latest release. But I honestly don't (yet) see the value of point-patching any of these. Of course, user input in upstream or here might change the situation. I am certainly prepared to handle this by updating the 5.6.0 package if/when the situation occurs. On a sidenote, 5.6.2 is backported not only to Bullseye but also Buster. One note for future changes, in this upload the bug reference was 'LP: 1971109', however the launchpad tooling requires that to be 'LP: #1971109' (with the '#'); it's not important enough to require a new upload but do try to remember for next upload. ** Also affects: opencpn (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: opencpn (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: opencpn (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: New => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1971109 Title: [BPO] Backport opencpn 5.6.2 from Kinetic to Jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/opencpn/+bug/1971109/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for checking! It seems I will need to retest versions, i was simply checking if it added ANY libvirt rules (iptables-save|grep -i virt), as we expected "open" to NOT add any firewall rules. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu that you are using. [Bug 1974091] [NEW] no-longer-needed build-dep on execstack
Public bug reported: The nvidia packages in Ubuntu have a build-dep on execstack, as requested in bug #409456. That bug was filed 13 years ago, about the fact that the upstream binaries were built with executable stack. They've been rebuilt a few times since then, and there are no longer any upstream binaries with an executable stack: $ find NVIDIA-Linux/ -name *.so* | xargs -n1 readelf -lW | grep GNU_STACK.*E $ readelf -SW NVIDIA-Linux/nvidia-{smi,xconfig,persistenced} | grep GNU_STACK.*E $ So the current use of execstack is a no-op. The execstack binary is built from prelink, which was dropped from Debian over a year ago. Please drop this build-dependency from all the nvidia packages so that we can drop prelink from the archive. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-470 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974091 Title: no-longer-needed build-dep on execstack To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-470/+bug/1974091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
