Expect it to still fail in 40.5-1ubuntu2 as the expected fix (mutter!77)
is only in version 41.0.

[Bug 1928393] Re: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault"

2021-10-27 Thread Juerg Haefliger
Hi. I'm picking up this ticket from Seth. Reading through the history it
seems it's still an open issue? My understanding is that upstream
'fixed' this by reverting fw blobs in version 20210818. I can produce a
linux-firmware test package for hirsute 20.04 with these reverts if
necessary. Just let me know.

I have the same problem on my two machines that have identical setup.

ZFS on root and data (two pools), compression enabled, some subvolumes
are encrypted.

ubuntu 21.10

$ zfs --version
zfs-2.0.6-1ubuntu2

First panic happens after I log in with my OS user, this triggers
decryption of zfs subvolumes via PAM and voila:

Processes that are suffering from being locked forever in 'D' state (ps
output second column) are usually firefox, gsd-housekeeping , sometimes
gnome-shell and, as in case above, find. I believe gnome-shell causes
nautilus to misbehave. What also sucks is that this seems to cause my
laptop to abort entering sleep mode with resource busy error,
recursively. So it would try to enter sleep, abort (there's a message in
syslog) and try again, until the battery depletes completely.

Adding `zfs.zfs_recover=1` to kernel boot parameter list maybe helps
(thank you https://launchpad.net/~jawn-smith). At least it prevented the
first zfs_node panic message from appearing in dmesg after login, but
this needs longer and more detailed observation under different loads.
Also, an open question remains whether having such kernel parameter for
regular use is appropriate.

[Bug 1948914] [NEW] [SRU] Ussuri stable releases

2021-10-27 Thread Chris MacNaughton
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
This release sports mostly bug-fixes and we would like to make sure all of our
users have access to these improvements.

The update contains the following package updates:

  * cinder 16.4.1
  * glance 20.2.0
  * nova 21.2.3

[Test Case]
The following SRU process was followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OpenStack/StableReleaseUpdates

In order to avoid regression of existing consumers, the OpenStack team will
run their continuous integration test against the packages that are in
-proposed. A successful run of all available tests will be required before the
proposed packages can be let into -updates.

The OpenStack team will be in charge of attaching the output summary of the
executed tests. The OpenStack team members will not mark ‘verification-done’
until
this has happened.

[Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned tests are attached to this bug.

[Bug 1943464] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2021-10-27 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From niklas.schne...@ibm.com 2021-10-27 04:49 EDT---
There a new patch for this issue. The previous fixes still had an issue around
the handling of multiple events for a single reserve state transition of the
device.

The fix is the following upstream commit:

a46044a92add6a400f4dada7b943b30221f7cc80 s390/pci: fix zpci_zdev_put()
on reserve

This fix has also been added to the v5.14.15 stable kernel where
we needed to pull in an additional trivial prerequisite commit:

Prerequisite:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.14.y&id=e27170d5f2fca8a42d610e0c87e52c41cfae7a21
Fix:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.14.y&id=4e5d794a2743f5a1e13ee1066ce37711f2696044

It has also been added to the v5.10.76 stable kernel, here the prerequisite
commit is *NOT* necessary since we don't have the refactoring of introducing
the zdev->has_resources attribute.

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.10.y&id=188907c252188ac7a5ec3efcfa31dae1f47b8a20

I can of course provide separate backports if neither of the above
backport approaches apply cleanly on the relevant Ubuntu kernels.

The nvidia-contaier-runtime is a simple shim for the runc installed on

[Bug 1945368]

2021-10-27 Thread Conft
I got my calendar entries to re-appear after upgrading from 78.14.0
(64-bit) to 91.2.0 (64-bit). Win 10 21H1. On 78.14, I deleted the few
tasks I had as per the above remark, and exported the calendar to
Home.ics. After the 91.2 upgrade, my Home calendar was empty. I then
added a new local calendar Junk1, and then successfully imported the
Home.ics file to Junk1. I have only ever used one local calendar (Home)
for years now. And yes, I am one of those errant profile file replace
folks as I replicate my email from machine to machine (and from Linux to
Windows a while back).

I am also now able to add calendar entries to Junk1, and they do not
disappear on a Thunderbird exit / reload (as they did before when my
Home local calendar had no entries after the 91 upgrade). And add new
tasks. Events and tasks added to the Home calendar (when Junk1 is
hidden) still disappear on a reload.

If I try to import the same Home.ics file to the empty local Home
calendar, the import dialog shows no progress what so ever (stalls)
after selecting 'Import All'; and selecting an 'Import Event' also
stalls. By stalling, I mean the 'Import All' button becomes washed out,
and the progress bar shows no activity. Importing into the Junk1
calendar happened in like 3 seconds. So I don't think it's a performance
thing. Also based on watching the memory and CPU activity of Thunderbird
in the Task Manager over like 20 min, just in case.

So how do I move all the Junk1 calendar entries back to my local Home
calendar please?

[Bug 1945368]

2021-10-27 Thread Conft
This issue is closed for me. I uninstalled 91.2.0, deleted the
Roaming>Thunderbird directory, and re-installed 91.2.0. I was then able
to import my 78.14.0 Home.ics file into the default Home calendar. Then
I just had to re-add my few tasks. And also import my address book .csv
files. And copy in all my years of saved Local Folders.

Rather a pain to re-create my email accounts and set all the preferences
like I wanted them, but now I have all that documented. Thanks to
Richard for the hint on deleting the VTODO entries. That .ics file did
not import; it just completed this time with no entries in the Home
calendar. My lesson learned was to back up my calendar and address books
before an update (or a new install), empty my inbox to a Local Folder,
and to stop overwriting the preference files, etc. Back on the normal
update path now, and happy to be using Thunderbird.

[Bug 1920974] Re: Underscore is not visible in the feed with certain settings

2021-10-27 Thread Paul White
In my focal installation I verified the reported bug - the underscore
character was not visible 'in the feed'.

I enabled -proposed and upgraded my hexchat packages to version
2.14.3-3ubuntu0.20.04.2 and followed the test plan as per the bug
description.

When using the 'Monospace 9' font (and my default of 'Monospace 10') I
saw that the underscore character was now visible 'in the feed'.

Marking the focal task as verified.

[Bug 1948893] Re: Application grid fails to appear or disappear

2021-10-27 Thread Zolt
** Description changed:

  3.38.4

  What you expected to happen:
  gnome-shell application grid to behave normally

  What actually happened:
  Upon clicking the show applications button once and reopening overview,
applications do not show up. When clicking the button twice to open/close the
application view, the grid will briefly flash on second click, and after
closing and reopening overview the grid will persist in the main overview
behind open windows.

- This bug seems to be triggered by extensions such as dash-to-panel when
- configuring settings to use the default gnome-dash/applications button
- and disabling the button on the panel. Because this bug is very similar
- to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1922353
- which was also triggered by the same extension for many users, it seems
- appropriate to report here.

[Bug 1947677] Re: Colemak keyboard layout's left-hand backspace is also acting as Caps Lock

2021-10-27 Thread Tialae
I have since found that executing in Terminal, the command
  𝚡𝚖𝚘𝚍𝚖𝚊𝚙 -𝚎 "𝚌𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚛 𝙻𝚘𝚌𝚔"
is a temporary workaround to fix this behaviour; however, I would definitely
think this issue should be fixed so it works out-of-the-box for new users.
It's a very problematic behaviour for one's primary backspace to be also
toggling caps lock, affecting daily typing.

[Bug 1916250] Re: gir1.2-signon-2.0 needs to declare replace on older releases (Groovy2Hirsute and Focal2Jammy)

2021-10-27 Thread Robie Basak
I'm surprised to see Replaces without a Breaks, and further for the
Replaces to be unversioned. This doesn't match one of the cases listed
at https://wiki.debian.org/PackageTransition, and
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#id11
explains why usually a Breaks is also required.

Since I'm not sure this is correct, I'm reluctant to accept it on
review. I'm not sure it's necessarily wrong, either. I'll ping Steve for
an opinion.

[Bug 1874730] Re: package apache2 2.4.41-4ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: ERROR: Conf phppgadmin does not exist!

2021-10-27 Thread Miriam España Acebal
Hi,

doing some clearance I found this bug.

Groovy reached EOSS (End of Standard Support) so I'm afraid it can't be
fixed. It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this defect,
however, there appears to be no further action possible at this time
because it's not a security bug.

Also, I checked that the configuration question that Bryce commented on
#3 still arises when doing releases upgrades (from Focal to Hirsute and
from Hirsute to Impish), so I'm targeting this series as well.

Running with sudo solve the issue but is not recomended.

This happens in a Kubuntu 21.10 updated from 21.04 in which plasma-discover was
working w/o problems.
Also happens in Lubuntu 21.10 updated from 21.04 in which plasma-discover was
also working.
In both 21.10 installation muon is working w/o problems (w/o need of sudo) so
it doesn't appear to be a cache problem.

[Bug 1946096] Re: Support manual firmware upgrading for Foxconn and Quectel modems.

2021-10-27 Thread Robie Basak
>  3) Add a bunch of mappings from SIM->Carrier

> Assuming (3) is not expected to change existing behaviour this looks
like it would be acceptable under the hardware-enablement SRU policy.

Agreed, but I would expect SRU information against every change being
made, that would then receive separate SRU verification. This helps us
mitigate risk by 1) actually considering each change in the first place,
rather than it "slipping past" review; and 2) reducing the potential
number of SRUs, and therefore user time, bandwidth and regression risk,
by actually verifying that things are being changed as expected so we
don't have to do it twice.

I'm disappointed that this has now gone through two SRU review rounds,
and it is Chris who has extracted the actual nature of the changes that
you are looking to land here. This detail should have been laid out in
the bug (or multiple bugs) and in the SRU information in the first
place.

[Bug 1948933] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 7.1.7 for hirsute

2021-10-27 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 7.1.7 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.1 line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.1#7.1.7_release

 * Version 7.1.6 is currently released in hirsute. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.1.6 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.1.7
(that's a total of ?? bugs):
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.1.7/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.1.7/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_71/1460/

  * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
* Automated tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
* Automated UI tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
* Regression tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
* Feature tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

 * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
* [amd64] ...
* [arm64] ...
* [armhf] ...
* [ppc64el] ...
* [s390x] ...

 * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

[Regression Potential]

 * A minor release with a total of ?? bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
in.

[Bug 1946359] Re: [MIR] vulkan-tools

2021-10-27 Thread Lukas Märdian
-- src:vulkan (Bionic) --
[Summary]
TODO: MIR team ACK, pending some requested changes (see below) and security
review.

The legacy src:vulkan package is quite big and contains embedded sources. It is
of much bigger scope than the vulkan-tools and vulkan-loader packages there
were split out of it in newer series. Any required changes would need to be
SRUed into Bionic first. I wonder if this is really worth the effort to get it
MIRed? I'd also like to ask for a security review with special regard to the
embedded sources, as those have not been covered by the newer vulkan-loader MIR
(LP: #1742711).
This does need a security review, so I'll assign ubuntu-security
List of specific binary packages to be promoted to main: vulkan-utils,
libvulkan1 (libvulkan-dev can be excluded)

Notes:
The src:vulkan MIR in Bionic basically combines the MIRs of src:vulkan-loader
(libvulkan1) and src:vulkan-tools (vulkan-utils) that are already (being)
accepted in newer series. Therefore, it is pretty similar to the "vulkan-tools"
MIR above and the "vulkan-loader" MIR in LP: #1742711, but due to embedded
sources it is of much bigger scope.

Required TODOs:
* get rid of the embedded sources (or take maintenance of those, in
coordination with the security team)
* make use of the integrated test suite, so that it fails the build if any
tests fails
* keep track of symbol names & changes in a debian/libvulkan1.symbols file

Recommended TODOs:
* Add a team bug subscriber
* add autopkgtests
* fix lintian errors
* fix some build warnings

[Duplication]
* There is no other package in main providing the same functionality.

[Dependencies]
OK:
* no other Dependencies to MIR due to this (quilt is only a build-dep)
* No dependencies in main that are only superficially tested requiring more
tests now?

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
* no static linking (some static linking in loader/ and external/glsl is only
used for Windows builds)

Problems:
* embedded glslang, spirv-{tools,headers}, hlsl, glm and vkjson sources

[Security]
OK:
* history of CVEs does not look concerning
* does not run a daemon as root
* does not use webkit1,2
* does not use lib*v8 directly
* does not parse data formats
* does not open a port
* does not process arbitrary web content
* does not use centralized online accounts
* does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
* does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

[Common blockers]
OK:
* does not FTBFS currently
* no translation present, but none needed for this case (user visible)?
* not a python/go package, no extra constraints to consider in that regard

Problems:
* does have a test suite, but that doesn't seem to run during build
* no autopkgtest

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
* Ubuntu does not carry a delta (but might need one to carry the proposed
changes)
* d/watch is present and looks ok (if needed, e.g. non-native)
* the current release is packaged (almost, lacking 1 release behind, afterwards
the package was split into vulkan-loader and vulkan-tools)
* Upstream update history is good
* Debian/Ubuntu update history is slow (but acceptable)
* promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far maintained
the package
* d/rules is rather clean
* Does not have Built-Using
* is not on the lto-disabled list (LTO hasn't been a thing for Bionic)

Recommendation:
* fix lintian errors (those only affect libvulkan-dev, that we do not want to
promote):
  + E: libvulkan-dev: missing-dependency-on-libc needed by
usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libVkLayer_core_validation.so and 5 others (missing
${shlibs:Depends}?)
  + E: libvulkan-dev: package-must-activate-ldconfig-trigger
usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libVkLayer_utils.so

Problems:
* symbols tracking is NOT in place

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
* no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH (usage is OK inside tests)
* no use of user nobody
* no use of setuid
* no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu
* no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
* not part of the UI for extra checks

Recommended:
* There is some fishy usage of malloc (passing the argument count into malloc)
in cube.c and cube.cpp inside the "WinMain" function, but this seems to be
unused inside the linux build.
* attempt to fix external/glslang build warnings
  + glslang/MachineIndependent/attribute.cpp:85:16: warning: comparison between
signed and unsigned integer expressions [-Wsign-compare]
  + SPIRV/GlslangToSpv.cpp:780:38: warning: comparison between signed and
unsigned integer expressions [-Wsign-compare]
* attempt to fix vulkan build warnings:
  + layers/vk_layer_logging.h:1029:13: warning: ‘void
InsertCmdDebugUtilsLabel(debug_report_data*, VkCommandBuffer, const
VkDebugUtilsLabelEXT*)’ defined but not used [-Wunused-function]
  + layers/vk_layer_logging.h:1013:13: warning: ‘void
EndCmdDebugUtilsLabel(debug_report_data*, VkCommandBuffer)’ defined but not
used [-Wunused-function]
  + layers/vk_layer_l

[Bug 1946359] Re: [MIR] vulkan-tools

2021-10-27 Thread Lukas Märdian
Hi Miriam!
I checked the vulkan-tools MIR for Jammy/Impish/Hirsute/Focal, which looks
rather straight forwards, but requires a few additional changes before the MIR
team can give the final ACK.

Also, I checked the vulkan MIR for Bionic, that seems to be much more
complicated. Please see my remarks in the next comment. I will be
requesting security review for this one, too.

-- vulkan-tools --
[Summary]
TODO: MIR team ACK, pending some requested changes (see below).

This MIR is looking pretty good overall, I do not see any big security
constraints and I think we do not need a security review. But the proposed
autopkgtests should be integrated and a build-time test suite needs to be added
in addition to integrating the LTO workaround (or fix) into the package itself.
All of those changes need to be SRUed into the stable series down to
Focal/Bionic.
This does NOT need a security review
List of specific binary packages to be promoted to main: vulkan-tools (we can
probably skip the transitional vulkan-utils package).

Notes:
As this MIR is to be backdated to Hirsute/Focal (and Bionic for src:vulkan) we
need the proposed changes to be SRUed to those series first. (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates)

Required TODOs:
* Add build-time tests that fail the build if they don't pass
* Integrate the proposed autopkgtests
* avoid the lto-disabled list (for arm64), should be fixed (or worked around)
inside the package itself
* SRU those changes down to the stable series (Impish/Hirsute/Focal/Bionic)

Recommended TODOs:
* Add a team bug subscriber
* Check build warning (in Focal version): "cube.cpp:2067:38: warning: ‘void*
memset(void*, int, size_t)’ clearing an object of non-trivial type"
* Try to keep vulkan-tools more up-to-date in the future

[Duplication]
* There is no other package in main providing the same functionality.

[Dependencies]
OK:
* no other Dependencies to MIR due to this (glslang-tools is only a build-dep,
all others are in main already)
* No dependencies in main that are only superficially tested requiring more
tests now

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
* no embedded source present
* no static linking

[Security]
OK:
* history of CVEs does not look concerning (no CVEs found)
* does not run a daemon as root
* does not use webkit1,2
* does not use lib*v8 directly
* does not parse data formats
* does not open a port
* does not process arbitrary web content
* does not use centralized online accounts
* does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
* does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

[Common blockers]
OK:
* does not FTBFS currently
* no translation present, but none needed for this case (user visible)?
* not a python/go package, no extra constraints to consider in that regard

Recommended:
* The package does not contain any autopkgtests. Those are being prepared but
we want them to be inside the archive and SRUed to all relevant series (i.e.
down to Focal/Bionic):
https://git.launchpad.net/~mirespace/+git/vulkan-tools/log/?h=impish-vulkan-tools-adding-dep8-tests

Problems:
* does NOT have a test suite that runs at build time and fails the build upon
error. (Maybe use something similar to what is described in BUILD.md -> ###
Linux Tests or run the proposed autopkgtest during build, too?)

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
* Ubuntu does carry a delta, but it is reasonable and maintenance under control
(adding tests, will be submitted to Debian, too)
* symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
* d/watch is present and looks ok (if needed, e.g. non-native)
* Upstream update history is good
* Debian/Ubuntu update history is slow, but reasonable
* promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far maintained
the package
* no massive Lintian warnings
* d/rules is rather clean
* Does not have Built-Using

Recommended:
* the current release is NOT packaged (upstream at v1.2.196, Debian at
v1.2.189, Ubuntu at v1.2.162)

Problems:
* is on the lto-disabled list (for arm64), this should be fixed or the
workaround should be included directly in the package

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
* no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
* no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH (usage is OK inside tests)
* no use of user nobody
* no use of setuid
* no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu
* no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
* not part of the UI for extra checks

Recommended:
* Focal version shows errors during build (that seems to be fixed in later
versions): "cube.cpp:2067:38: warning: ‘void* memset(void*, int, size_t)’
clearing an object of non-trivial type ‘struct vk::SubresourceLayout’; use
assignment or value-initialization instead [-Wclass-memaccess]"
* There is some fishy usage of malloc (passing the argument count into malloc)
in cube.c and cube.cpp inside the "WinMain" function, but this seems to be
unused inside the linux build.

[Bug 1948862] Re: KVM emulation failure when booting into VM crash kernel with multiple CPUs

2021-10-27 Thread Heitor Alves de Siqueira
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  [Test Plan]
  1. Boot an Ubuntu guest VM with e.g. multipass:
  $ multipass launch daily:focal -c8 -m16g -n focal-vm

  2. Configure guest crash kernel command-line with `nr_cpus=8`:
  ubuntu@focal-vm:~$ grep CMDLINE_APPEND /etc/default/kdump-tools
  # KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND - Additional arguments to append to the command line
  KDUMP_CMDLINE_APPEND="reset_devices systemd.unit=kdump-tools-dump.service
nr_cpus=8 irqpoll nousb ata_piix.prefer_ms_hyperv=0"

  3. Crash guest VM and watch for the KVM emulation failure:
  ubuntu@focal-vm:~$ echo c | sudo tee /proc/sysrq-trigger

  [Where problems could occur]
- As we're resetting MMU context on vCPUs, potential regressions would show up
in
- workloads relying on KVM guests. We should properly test the scenario
mentioned
- in the bug to make sure secondary CPUs are being cleaned up properly, and that
- no other regressions have been introduced when rebooting or kexec'ing into
- different kernels.
- Since we're adding an MMU reset at kvm_vcpu_reset(), the overall regression
- potential should be fairly low and contained to starting/resetting vCPUs
- (i.e. VM start and reboot).

[Bug 1932328] Re: Thunderbird under Wayland does not correctly close (or manage) windows

2021-10-27 Thread Stefano Maffulli
I just noticed that the same issue appears while using Inkscape: open
the export dialog, export the image and close the dialog. Then you will
still see two dots in the dock near the inkscape icon. And if you quit
Inkscape, on dot remains and ALT-TAB doesn't work anymore.
