Re: [Bug 1850439] Re: No sound on ASUS UX534FT

2020-04-27 Thread soulsacrifire
Hi,

I'm working on a Zenbook UX334 using a dual boot system.

Initially I've installed Ubuntu 19.10 with nvidia drivers experiencing the
audio problem.
After that I installed Ubuntu 19.10 but without the Nvidia drivers and the
sound started working again. In the second phase I installed the nvidia
drivers. The sound is metallic but it works fine.

[Bug 1875290] [NEW] Ubutu Ubiquity Installer sets wrong language locale based on set time zone

2020-04-27 Thread Tony Thuitai
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu Installer sets the wrong language locale when some timezones
are set/automatically set for example when I set the language to English
and set the timezone to Nairobi GMT+3, the locale that is set is not an
English locale but a non-English one which is Oromo-KE instead of
English US or English UK based on keyboard layout chosen in
installation. Correction of the error after installation is possible on
gnome graphically but requires the terminal to properly correct it in
KDE and XFCE.

I request a change to the installer to solve this issue which is to
allow users to set a type of the main Language selected for example when
English is selected at the start of installation, the next step before
setting the keyboard layout should be the English type, for example,
English-UK, English-US and others so that the correct language locale is
set. An example of the change is the System76 Pop OS installation.

[Bug 1875292] [NEW] Opened file or folder on desktop but wanted to minimize window

2020-04-27 Thread Veljko V
Public bug reported:

Hi,

This is simple to reproduce and I experienced this also on 19.10.

First, make sure you have enabled "double-click on top bar of window to
minimize" feature, I'm using that because its easy and fast for me to
minimize the window.

1. Make sure you have any folder (like home) or file on desktop but in Big size
and Top-Center location of desktop (I have many folders and files which are on
top-center location so when I click double-click on topbar of window, issue
appears)
2. Open Files for example
3. Double-click on top bar of window to minimize it
4. Observe issue (make sure you double-clicked on top bar but to be folder or
file behind it exactly.. because thats the point, when folder or file is behind
that bar where you perform double-click, it will minimize the window + open
that folder or file

Actual result: Window minimized + folder opened
Expected result: Just window minimized

No thoughts? Or is it just me having this problem?
The problem actually existed all the time since GIMP's HiDPI support was added,
also in previous Ubuntu versions.

[Bug 1875297] [NEW] Ubuntu minimal install takes longer than normal install when installing from official ISO

2020-04-27 Thread Tony Thuitai
Public bug reported:

Expected installation: Minimal installation should not take longer than
normal installation.

Performed a test of Ubuntu 19.10 installation with Erase Disk option on
both a 5400rpm hard disk and a SATA 3 SSD when they are connected
directly to a SATA 3 interface and internet speed and mirrors are fast.
When installing on a 5400rpm hard disk, minimal installation takes
almost an hour but normal installation takes about 30 minutes. When
installing on a SATA 3 SSD, minimal installation takes about 10 minutes
while the normal installation takes about 5 minutes.

Why the opposite of the expected installation occurs is because the
Minimal installation mode seems to 'debloat' the normal installation by
removing packages that are not required which include games, media
players and other applications, locales and many of them are not of the
selected language and installer related packages.

I request a fix to the ubiquity installer such that only the required
packages are installed based on language and other options especially
whether Minimal or Normal set before the start of installation on
hardware. This will save a lot of time, especially on mechanical hard
drives.

[Bug 1875301] [NEW] Xorg freeze when adding multiple input methods

2020-04-27 Thread Hector Frohlich Cortez
Public bug reported:

I've notice freezes from 1 to 2 seconds on clean installs of Ubuntu 20.04 as
well as on Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 when adding multiple languages input methods.
When running with single input (GB) no freeze occurs, but as soon as another
input is added (not sure is relevant by I've tried PT-BR and FR) the freezing
starts.
Returning to single input method brings system back to normal.

[Bug 1875302] [NEW] Ubuntu freezes and must reboot or log out

2020-04-27 Thread Veljko V
Public bug reported:

I can easily reproduce this bug every time and I have steps, but wasn't
able to report bug if freezes.

1. So make sure you're on desktop
2. Start clicking left-right clicks + at the same time
3. Do this for 30sec fast and you'll experience the bug
4. When reproduced or not sure, just try to open terminal or any folder and try
to close or work with, you'll see that it is frozen
5. Observe issue

Actual: Ubuntu is half frozen, you can't take actions like closing window,
working with terminal..
Expected: No issue, user can click as much left-right clicks and no freezes at
all

[Bug 1872941] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2020-04-27 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From cborn...@de.ibm.com 2020-04-27 03:47 EDT---
Independent from KVM and virt-install, reading again
https://ubuntu-on-big-iron.blogspot.com/2020/03/glimpse-at-subiquity.html
I think this is actually a big step backwards for LPAR.
Do you really have no network configuration script in the installer itself and
now you HAVE to specify this via the parmfile?
Until now Ubuntu was the only distribution that could be installed via a public
ftpserver via the HMC. If I read the doc right, I now NEED an FTP server myself.
Looks like you just got rid of your big installation advantage over SLES and
RHEL.

[Bug 1875304] [NEW] cannot launch application from activities overview

2020-04-27 Thread Ilario Sanseverino
Public bug reported:

After upgrading Ubuntu from 19.10 to 20.04 I'm not able to launch
applications from the overview window. If I right-click on the app, add
to favourites and then launch it from the dash it works, but if I just
left-click on the app icon nothing happens.

When launch fails in `journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell` I get this entry:
`clutter_input_device_ungrab: assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_INPUT_DEVICE
(device)' failed`

The problem occurs with both X11 and Wayland sessions (although I only
checked the journalctl on X11)

[Bug 1875305] [NEW] not all built-in mouse functions work as expected (I can click and scroll but I can't move the mouse)

2020-04-27 Thread Catherine Raya Polishchuk
Public bug reported:

This happened after I turned off the mouse to clean my laptop and then
turned it back on using the keyboard combination Fn + F5. I restarted my
computer and weirdly enough the mouse seems to be working just fine (I
can move it) on the login screen. But as soon as I'm logged in, the
problem is back.

Actually, I just realized that my description in the summary isn't
precise because I can when I click in the text field I'm able to move
the mouse while keeping the left mouse button pressed. I can't right
click either.

[Bug 1875309] [NEW] [UBUNTU 20.04] Add notification in case subiquity got booted on s390x w/o a parmfile in place

2020-04-27 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Compared to d-i - where parmfile modifications are not necessarily
needed, the question is, if this can be again the same for subiquity?

At the very least, the current state definitely needs documentation -
otherwise customers will try to install and it will fail without any
indication what went wrong.

On top of that, it would be nice if the installer could at least give a
helpful message pointing out that the user will have to modify their
parmfile for the installation to work.

Of course the best solution would be to add code to the installer to
prompt for the necessary information like before.

[Bug 1874374] Re: thinkbook 14-iil elan touchpad does not work

2020-04-27 Thread You-Sheng Yang
@Brian, basically "_HIDELAN0634" is an illegal name according to ACPI
specification, so there won't be a overriding fix in kernel because
kernel would enforce the names to follow standard. It follows this
platform would have to be patch in the ACPI tables as detailed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1853277/comments/15.

I request a change to the installer to solve this issue which is to
allow users to set a type of the main Language selected for example when
English is selected at the start of installation, the next step before

[Bug 1874257] Re: SSH fails with connection timed out - in VPN and hangs here "expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY" + Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS

2020-04-27 Thread Jay
Hello,

This is an issue with VPN MTU configuration. May I know the root cause
why this is causing the issue? After adjusted the MTU , this is fixed.

As the same time putty works without any modification.

Why ssh client not negotiating properly with the default MTU

It could be a noisy or unreliable connection to the server. Probably
that data corruption is happening to the packet when it is sent, which
is my assumption

[Bug 1875306] Re: System starts again after shutdown

2020-04-27 Thread Eric Dalongeville
I added "acpi=force" to my grub boot, no success.

I then rolled back my graphics driver from Nvidia prioprietary 440 to
Nvidia proprietary 390, and the issue is gone.

I don't really understand how the graphics driver is involved in the
shutdown process, and if Nvidia is to blame here. I'll let more skilled
people decide what to do with this bug report.

and don't forget to remove the "dsp_driver=1" temporarily when testing

the kernel driver should finish the initializtion, let us debug the
kernel driver first.

[Bug 1874603] Re: package inkscape (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/application-registry/inkscape.applications', which is also in package inkscape-common 0.42

2020-04-27 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
I still can't find inkscape-common in that website. Also, in that
website it just links to the official package that is in the repository
that you could already grab with a simple `apt install inkscape`, so I
don't understand what are you doing…

Anyhow, installing packages from unofficial sources is not supported and
clearly I won't give support in this bug tracker; you might try in some
user support forum. That said, I reckon you should just `apt purge
inkscape-common && apt install inkscape` and it should just work,
provided you don't have some third party repository that might mess with
it.

[Bug 1875303] Re: screen crash

2020-04-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
