[Bug 1867423] [NEW] Update to glibc 2.31-0ubuntu5 breaks system
Public bug reported: After upgrade to this version I'm unable to login into system. Right after update - I can't do anything with sudo. System immediately says that password is incorrect $ sudo . Sorry, try again. Sorry, try again. sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts - GUI apps which require admin rights (synaptic) also stopped working - After reboot SDDM can't reach login screen - if you try recovery mode with root parameter system complains /sbin/sulogin: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory So after this update file /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so.1 got deleted. On Kubuntu 20.04, which was last upgraded yesterday, upgrade stopped with some error about unfinished configuration of libcrypt1. On Ubuntu 20.04 (GNOME) which was last upgraded at Feb 16, upgrade went well but system also got broken. ** Affects: glibc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867423 Title: Update to glibc 2.31-0ubuntu5 breaks system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1867423/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1866844] Re: package libc6:amd64 2.31-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: installed libc6:amd64 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127
I have resolved the issue by doing the following: 1) From grub, change the linux line; remove 'quiet' and 'splash', and change 'ro' to 'rw init=/bin/bash' (see below if you need more information) This will allow you to boot into your system sort of"recovery mode". 2) When booted, run: mount -o remount,rw / 3) Copy a "bogus" library over the library that the upgrade is expecting: cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypt.so /lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/libcrypt.so.1 4) run: apt --fix-broken install 5) Resume the original upgrade: apt full-upgrade 6) reboot (this might require forcefully rebooting using your power or reset button) Information regarding the grub bit: It may take a few tries to get into grub. You need to press ESC at the right time during the boot process (just after your bios/efi post has shown), or forcefully rebooting during startup will most likely bring you there as well Select the "ubuntu" line, and hit the 'e' key on your keyboard. Go to the line that looks like: linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-14-generic root=UUID= ro quiet splash $vt_handoff Change it into: linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-14-generic root=UUID= rw init=/bin/bash $vt_handoff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866844 Title: package libc6:amd64 2.31-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: installed libc6:amd64 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1866844/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1864204] Re: nondeterministic failure when no keyring backends are available
** Description changed: [impact] when no backends are available for python-keyring, it will sometimes silently ignore all requests to set or get credentials, and sometimes it will raise RuntimeError for all requests. [test case] when there are no backends, there are 2 built-in backends that will be the only ones available, the 'chainer' backend and the 'fail' backend. The 'fail' backend always has priority 0, while the 'chainer' backend has priority 10 if it contains any actual backends, and priority 0 if it is empty. So in the situtation where there are no actual backends, both 'chainer' and 'fail' will have priority 0. Since the 'backends' class stores its backend implementation instances in a python set(), which is unordered, it is non-deterministic which of those backends are used at any given time. Since the behavior is non-deterministic, simply trying this multiple times may result in each behavior. Rebooting or logout/login can help 'switch' the behavior, although simply re-running the test multiple times should be enough to eventually test both backends. >>> import keyring >>> [keyring.backend.get_all_keyring()] the above python code will show the current list of backends, and since they both have the same priority (in this situation) the first in the list will be used. If the list looks like: [[, ]] with 'ChainerBackend' first, all keyring functions will return silently with None, e.g.: >>> keyring.set_password('test', 'test', 'test') >>> keyring.get_password('test', 'test') >>> with 'fail.Keyring' first, all keyring functions will raise RuntimeError: >>> import keyring >>> [keyring.backend.get_all_keyring()] [[, ]] >>> keyring.set_password('test', 'test', 'test') Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/keyring/core.py", line 63, in set_password _keyring_backend.set_password(service_name, username, password) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/keyring/backends/fail.py", line 24, in get_password raise RuntimeError(msg) RuntimeError: No recommended backend was available. Install a recommended 3rd party backend package; or, install the keyrings.alt package if you want to use the non-recommended backends. See https://pypi.org/project/keyring for details. >>> keyring.get_password('test', 'test') Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/keyring/core.py", line 57, in get_password return _keyring_backend.get_password(service_name, username) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/keyring/backends/fail.py", line 24, in get_password raise RuntimeError(msg) RuntimeError: No recommended backend was available. Install a recommended 3rd party backend package; or, install the keyrings.alt package if you want to use the non-recommended backends. See https://pypi.org/project/keyring for details. [regression potential] - TBD as this is still an upstream bug + And regressions would likely occur when no keyring backends, or only a + single keyring backend, are/is availble, since this lowers the priority + of the 'chainer' keyring backend, and the intention of this is to fix + the existing problem when there is no keyring backend. + + It should be noted that because the current behavior is non- + deterministic, alternating between no error at all and raised + RuntimeError, some existing users of python-keyring that occasionally do + not see any error (but then also occasionally see RuntimeError raised) + will now always see NoKeyringError raised (which does inherit from + RuntimeError, to keep backwards compatibility for users that currently + catch RuntimeError). + + That is not actually a regression, since the behavior was non- + deterministic; one way had to be chosen, and always raising error when + there are no keyring backends is more appropriate than always silently + failing when there are no keyring backends. [scope] This affects Eoan and later, including upstream. This does not affect Bionic or earlier, as they do not have the commit that introduces the bug. this was introduced upstream by commit 0114733e91f249246c8fec9e659cd7ba2388ea0d which was first included in version 16.1.0. [other info] this affects any application that uses the python-launchpadlib library, as that internally uses keyrings. Opened upstream PR to at least make the behavior deterministic: https://github.com/jaraco/keyring/pull/424 Also adds new 'NoKeyringError' so callers can catch that specific error instead of raising generic RuntimeError. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1864204 Title: nondeterministic failure when no keyring backends are available To manage notifications about this bug

[Bug 1797734] Re: slow calculator startup
I'm not sure why the "is 2s too slow to start" is the question being asked. Who starts and stops their calculator multiple times in a row? That's not a realistic use-case for the vast majority. Most people need a calculator once a day or every few days, and a desktop calculator is not an application people tend to leave running for long periods like a browser or word processor. They need to do a quick bit of computation so they open the app, work in it for a few minutes, then close it again. Startup speed is, after correctness, probably THE most important aspect of a utility like this. The interesting number for gnome-calculator is the FIRST number: how long it takes to be able to use the application from a cold start. 15s is much closer to what I see, EVERY TIME I start gnome-calculator. That's just... close to unusable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797734 Title: slow calculator startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-calculator/+bug/1797734/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1866917] Re: Hexter sound generator dpesn't start from menu
OK - after battling with the build system to try and get Hexter installed back on the original /usr/lib/dssi path, I realised I was down a blind alley and it still git not work. So I had to did a bit deeper and discovered two things. 1. ubuntustudio-menu is installing a hexter.desktop file, so my changes to the desktop file in the hexter package will be overridden anyway. 2. It is not the path that is wrong. The Exec line in the desktop file from the Debian hexter package does not work because the asterisk is not correctly expanded to the correct path. It needs to be executed via a shell command: Exec=sh -c 'jack-dssi-host /usr/lib/*/dssi/hexter.so' I will fix the Hexter desktop file via Debian & a sync, and drop the Hexter desktop file from ubuntustudio-menu. ** Also affects: ubuntustudio-menu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntustudio-menu (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Ross Gammon (rosco2) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866917 Title: Hexter sound generator dpesn't start from menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hexter/+bug/1866917/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
