old for GNOME developers to consider fixing. Problem is fixed in later
versions of evince, e.g. 3.32.

Windows works excellent with UEFI. Some Chromium OS forks, as ArnoldTheBat
Vanilla and FydeOS works with UEFI amazing too, but they use GRUB 2 too, as
Ubuntu.

[Bug 1566437] Re: Scrolling randomly stops working

2019-07-27 Thread MightyPork
Getting this with 1.91 on Arch, it likes to happen during package
updates for some reason.

I found a hacky workaround - add this to your $PS1:

\[\e[?1049l\e[?2004l\e[?1006l\e[?1002l\e[?1001r\e[?1l\]

It'll fix it as soon as you get to a prompt.

Given how randomly it happens, I believe there is a real bug in
Terminator; but if you want to force the broken state, just open 'mc'
and run 'pkill mc' from another terminal, your scrolling will be broken.

A way to debug this kind of thing is to run e.g 'mc > trace.txt'. Then
type 'exit', hit return, and mc will quit. You will get all the escape
sequences from mc in trace.txt to inspect.

[Bug 1566437] Re: Scrolling randomly stops working

> I found a hacky workaround - add this to your $PS1:

The workaround of resetting relevant settings from the prompt has
already been mentioned – although without showing a concrete example.

> Given how randomly it happens, I believe there is a real bug in
Terminator

I'm about 99.999% sure that this is _not_ a bug in Terminator (VTE). It
is believed to properly execute the relevant escape sequences it
receives. (Can you reproduce the issue with xterm, urxvt, konsole...? I
bet you can.)

> but if you want to force the broken state, just open 'mc' and run
'pkill mc' from another terminal, your scrolling will be broken.

Yup, in this case mc asks the terminal to switch to a special mode, and
due to getting killed, it does not ask the terminal to leave that mode.
Nothing new here, exactly what has already been concluded in this
thread.

> run e.g 'mc > trace.txt'. Then type 'exit', hit return, and mc will
quit. You will get all the escape sequences from mc in trace.txt to
inspect.

Can you really reproduce the issue this way? Because you don't kill mc
now, but exit it cleanly.

> to report it as a terminator bug

Unless you have firm evidence that this is a terminator (or VTE) bug,
please don't spam its bugtracker with something that's most likely an
issue elsewhere.

[Bug 1741459] Re: firefox stuck in an half-installed state

2019-07-27 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner.

Presumably, with 17 major versions and numerous minor versions of
Firefox released since this bug report was raised and in the absence of
any further comments this bug report can now be closed?

I'm changing the status to "Incomplete" to allow this report to expire
in the absence of any further comments.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1838133] [NEW] realtek r8822be kernel module fails after update to linux kernel-headers 5.0.0-21

2019-07-27 Thread Jun Go
Public bug reported:

On July 24th I upgraded to the latest linux-headers-5.0.0-21 as part of
the dist-upgrade for latest packages in Disco Dingo 19.04. I didn't
notice that wifi was no longer working because at work I exclusively use
a wired Ethernet connection.

Today, however, when I tried to use my realtek r8822be wireless card, I
discovered that it was totally unresponsive and did not work with
wpa_supplicant / wpa_cli even when invoked manually from the command
line (let alone with NetworkManager). When the problem occurred, I was
using 19.04's latest kernel 5.0.0-21.

I then rebooted and selected kernel 5.0.0-20 from GRUB menu. "uname -a"
shows that I am using the previous kernel version:

Linux pj 5.0.0-20-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 24 09:32:09 UTC 2019
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

With this kernel version as well as linux-headers-5.0.0.20, linux-
headers-5.0.0-20-generic, my realtek wireless card works fine. While
booted into 5.0.0-20 kernel, here are the realtek kernel modules that
are loaded:

# lsmod | grep r8
r8822be   692224  0
mac80211  806912  1 r8822be
cfg80211  671744  2 mac80211,r8822be
r8169  81920  0

Hopefully this realtek wireless regression can get fixed in the next
minor kernel version. Let me know if you need any more information.

Best Regards,
Jun

Thank you for reporting this bug to make Ubuntu better!

If you file bugs on ubuntu please consider ubuntu-bug packagename
(perhaps linux in your case)

at this stage, you can still collect the info with: apport-collect bugID so
relevant
system info will add to your bug and developers can debug a better way

[Bug 1833435] Re: RFC: Add url/urls/mirrors attribute for product items

2019-07-27 Thread Daniele Rondina
Hi Dan and Stéphane,

thank you very much for the support.

So, what is the solution choice?

Probably, the better choice is `urls` or `mirrors` so it's possible
inside LXD code handle failover with a secondary mirror.

So, for a recap:

Solution a)

{
 "datatype": "image-downloads",
 "updated": "Sat, 04 May 2013 01:58:57 +",
 "content_id": "sabayon:images:download",
 "products": {
  "sabayon:0.1:arm": {
   "arch": "arm",
   "stream": "devel",
   "versions": {
"20190111": {
 "items": {
  "uec.tar.gz": {
   "ftype": "lxc.tar.gz",
   "urls": [
   "http://mymirror.edu/lxd-images/sabayon/myimages.tar.gz";,
   "http://mymirror2.edu/lxd-images/sabayon/myimages.tar.gz";
   ],
   "sha256": "xx",
   "md5": "797e2d488c799eab0a8eb09a9c1ff4a3",
   "size": 7314153
  },
...
}

>From LXD client-side the logic could be that if `urls` is not empty I
get a random entry from url array and I try to fetch image else use path
field as now.

Solution b)

{
 "datatype": "image-downloads",
 "updated": "Sat, 04 May 2013 01:58:57 +",
 "content_id": "sabayon:images:download",
 "products": {
  "sabayon:0.1:arm": {
   "arch": "arm",
   "stream": "devel",
   "versions": {
"20190111": {
 "items": {
  "uec.tar.gz": {
   "ftype": "lxc.tar.gz",
   "path": "/lxd-images/sabayon/myimage.tar.gz",
   "mirrors": [
   "http://mymirror.edu";,
   "http://mymirror2.edu/sabayon/";
   ],
   "sha256": "xx",
   "md5": "797e2d488c799eab0a8eb09a9c1ff4a3",
   "size": 7314153
  },
...
}

With this solution, `mirrors` contains the hostname with an optional
prefix and from LXD client-side if mirrors have values then a random
field of mirrors field is used and value of path field is used for
creating image URL (mirrors[0]+path)

Please, let me know how we want to proceed so I try to push a PR to LXD
project after my holidays.

Thanks again.

[Bug 1705820] Re: Wrong build when kernel upgrade (about kernel header path)

2019-07-27 Thread Oliver Gerlich
Ernst, you can apply Mabins patch with these commands:

- cd /tmp/ && wget
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/330175838/rtl8812au-4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg.patch
- cd /usr/src/
- sudo patch -p0 < /tmp/rtl8812au-4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg.patch

After the next kernel upgrade the rtl8812ae module should be
automatically built for the newly installed kernel version.

I have similar problem.

Acer Aspire VN7-792G with Nvida GeForce 960M and Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.
Try to connect to monitor Asus vx239h.

Sometimes it turns out to connect a second screen as an extension of the
screen, for example, if you go into console mode and return. It works
for a while, when you try to enter Settings, the screen turns off.

[Bug 1838146] [NEW] ntpd installation /etc/ntp.conf ~ hostnames listed do not exist on *.ntp.org

2019-07-27 Thread Dr. Simon A. Roberts
Public bug reported:

When you install 'ntp' the /etc/ntp.conf it writes refers to the
following:

 - *.ubuntu.ntp.org

This hostname name and subdomain doesn't exist, it would be better if
you just import and write http://ntp.snails.email/v1/ntp.conf
alternatively make a file that randomly selects the pool and server from
http://ntp.snails.email/v1/online.json --> so you download the .json,
and then have somewhere on *.ubuntu.com that has a ntp.conf it will and
randomly compile alist of pool items from the .json --> this will stop
chronologistic buffering convulsive environments...

[Bug 1838151] [NEW] Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support.

2019-07-27 Thread Jeffrey Nappi
Public bug reported:

Bluetooth HSP/HFP audio quality is poor on Ubuntu comparative to all
other major platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, Android, iOS).

Modern Bluetooth headsets (such as the Bose QC series headphones, many
others) are capable of using HFP 1.6 with mSBC 16kHz audio encoding. As
it currently stands, Ubuntu defaults to only supporting HSP headsets
using 8kHz CVSD, and is incapable of supporting HFP 1.6 at this time.

The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue -
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048

Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it appears
that there are quite a lot of differences considering they have
developed their own audio server solution etc.

The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in May
2011 -
https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193

Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel and
PulseAudio:

PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/
Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html

It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch:
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/77dd0cb94c1713a8a12f6e392955dfa64c430e54

[Bug 1838152] [NEW] gnome-shell freezes on notification arrival (fixed upstream)

2019-07-27 Thread Luca
Public bug reported:

Sometimes certain notifications make the desktop unresponsive for a few
seconds and then gnome-shell crashes and all extensions are reloaded.

I have found an upstream bug with a patch, but it's probably not in the
Ubuntu's package. I thought of creating an issue in case it is something not
known.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/470

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/commit/86a00b6872375a266449beee1ea6d5e94f1ebbcb

In my case it happens only with the notifications of gsconnect and maybe
android studio.
I have reproduced the problem in gsconnect in case it helps.
https://github.com/andyholmes/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues/549

the error is:
lug 27 19:55:56 ghv gnome-shell[4071]: Object Meta.Background (0x55ce6b4cf300),
has been already deallocated - impossible to access it. This might be caused by
the object having been destroyed from C code using something such as destroy(),

(last modified 2019-07-26) and the touchpad worked. It's a long time
until October 2019 but it seems, that the touchpad will work with Ubuntu
19.10.

[Bug 1820173] Re: Screen brightness buttons change gain instead of brightness

2019-07-27 Thread Douglas Silva
I have a similar netbook called Dell Inspiron 11 3162 in which this is
reproducible. Changing brightness with the FN (function) key
combinations change the gamma of the screen instead of the actual
brightness. It's a fake brightness change, like the one Redshift can do
if you're familiar with it.

If I go to the settings and open Brightness, I can move the slider there
and change the brightness as expected. It's just the key combination
that doesn't work as we expect.

I have tested Lubuntu 19.04 and Fedora 30 LXQt in their default
settings. In both this is reproducible.

I don't have these systems installed right now. I might try Lubuntu
19.04 in the coming days and attach the requested log files here.

[Bug 1829310] Re: kernel 5 fails to start systemd-networkd on old Dell Inspiron 1720

2019-07-27 Thread vatbier
a few weeks ago I have been able to build dkms nividia 340 kernel module for
mainline build 5.1.16.
Install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.107 with kernel 5.0 and 5.1 patches from
https://pkgs.rpmfusion.org/cgit/nonfree/nvidia-340xx-kmod.git/log/ (I had to
fix one of the patches myself) with ubuntu's mainline kernel 5.1.16.
I also had to extract the *custom.run to disable compiling of uvm (dkms.conf
and Makefile).

[Bug 1838154] [NEW] Simply snapping terminal window from the outside the screen fixes thermal build up

2019-07-27 Thread klfyt
Public bug reported:

If you snap terminal window from the outside of screen area
against the left edge of screen then heat build up stops.

Or in other words terminal either stops heating or
gives somehow unknown cooling benefit. Which should be
really strange.

[Bug 1838155] [NEW] Getting rid of /bin has broken amgtar

2019-07-27 Thread Ian Turner
Public bug reported:

amgtar checks the realpath (i.e., resolving symlinks) before running
sensitive binaries such as /bin/tar with elevated privileges. Moving the
tar binary from /bin/tar to /usr/bin/tar breaks this check.

This results in the following error when trying to run /bin/tar under privilege:
amgtar: '/bin/tar' binary is not secure

The obvious fix is to change the compiled-in tar path to /usr/bin/tar
instead of /bin/tar. This can be done by passing the GNUTAR environment
variable to the configure script.

As a workaround, one may update /etc/amanda-security.conf file to
whitelist /usr/bin/tar.

Humm, actually this happens only when using byobu and the terminal is started
through it's icon, if I start the terminal directly it works ok. So this may be
related to byobu and not the terminal itsef. Sorry for the noise.

[Bug 1451286] Re: crontab -r deletes cron entries without asking for confirmation

2019-07-27 Thread Anonymous
I'm glad my initial stubborness is leading to this avalanche of users
echoing me. I feel all your pain, I have been there and it sucks!

I would suggest this update/patch needs to go into not only the new
versions of Ubuntu, but also the LTS distribution repos also, as a
stability bugfix.

I made a ticket in the Mint repos about the bug called systemd and they
insta-banned me, lol. I still run Ubuntu 14.04 because I am not
interesting in running systemd as pid1, or at all. I'll probably be off
to slackware soon.

It's been real, Ubuntu.

I don't understand why acting as a client to server should have this much
difference?

Would you mind to add this plugin to the list? Or is there a specific reason
why to exclude this?

[Bug 1838115] Re: linux hwe i386 kernel 5.0.0-21.22~18.04.1 crashes on Lenovo x220

2019-07-27 Thread Colin Ian King
Did a bisect on the drm i915 driver, came up with no root cause.
Did a full bisect between 4.18 and 4.20, bisected down to a PTI commit:

7757d607c6b3186de42e1fb0210b9c5d8b70 is the first bad commit
commit 7757d607c6b3186de42e1fb0210b9c5d8b70
Author: Joerg Roedel
Date:   Wed Jul 18 11:41:14 2018 +0200

x86/pti: Allow CONFIG_PAGE_TABLE_ISOLATION for x86_32

Allow PTI to be compiled on x86_32.

This seems to make sense, it's x86_32 specific and explains the more
random nature of the crashes.

OK, I've proved that this is the core issue, booting 5.0.0-21.22~18.04.1
with nopti boots successfully.
