[Bug 1837748] Re: Autologin not working after last update

2019-07-26 Thread Marcos Martinez
There are no changes between the files on the two version of the gdm3
package: 3.28.3-0ubuntu18.04.4 and the 3.28.3-0ubuntu. All the files
has the same md5sum so the the problem is somewhere else.

--- Comment From cborn...@de.ibm.com 2019-07-26 03:12 EDT---
I can confirm that the KVM part (this bugzilla) works fine with
a. this kernel from proposed
b. qemu from
https://launchpad.net/~paelzer/+archive/ubuntu/bug-1836154-s390x-hwmodels/+packages

Now. The kernel in proposed has a bug which prohibits this kernel to be
released.

dmesg is flooded with

messages. Looks like you picked an upstream patch and missed several followup
patches in that area.
Thjis is around commit e12e4044aede97974feb7f0ed726a5179a32 ("s390/mm: fix
mis-accounting of pgtable_bytes") and later patches on top of this.

(This is independent from the KVM changes which are working perfectly
fine).

[Bug 1724307] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V

2019-07-26 Thread Joanna Henzel
[Problem fixed]

Hello,

I used to have this same problem with the flickering mouse cursor on the
main display.

The solution which Quoc Khanh Le (qkle) mentioned in this comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-
server/+bug/1724307/comments/24 worked for me!

I use a laptop Dell Inspiron 7559 with Ubuntu 18.04. My kernel is
4.15.0-55-generic.

Using DisplayLink (Dell Docking Station D3100) I have connected 2
external monitors.

[Bug 1727958] Re: Libreoffice writer / calc etc show as white icon in launcher when opened

2019-07-26 Thread Xavier Guillot via ubuntu-bugs
Yes, bug is still present, even in Ubuntu 19. 10 :

Whether any Writer or Calc document is opened, in the dock I have only
the generic white LibreOffice icon showing, the same for all of them -
instead of the blue one for Writer, the green for Calc etc...

[Bug 1837968] Re: GNOME Shell (X11) task switcher and LibreOffice

2019-07-26 Thread grey tomorrow
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Upgraded to 18.04.2 LTS (GNOME Shell 3.28.4/X11) from 16.04 LTS (Unity)
and noticed that Alt-Tab task switcher doesn't update immediately with
  LibreOffice documents.

  Case in point:
I've got LibreOffice, Firefox and a Nautilus window with a directory of
LibreOffice spreadsheets open. When I Alt-Tab through this I see a generic
LibreOffice icon, a Firefox icon (and its open windows) and a Nautilus icon.
I'll then switch to the Nautilus window and open spreadsheet(s) and I see that
LibreOffice has loaded them in the background behind the Nautilus window. Now
when I Alt-Tab to switch to LibreOffice, there is not even a generic
LibreOffice icon anymore. If I wait a few seconds and Alt-Tab again, I then see
a LibreOffice Calc icon (and the open file windows).

Update: I restarted using Wayland instead of X11 and the problem seems
resolved, although LibreOffice defaults to a generic LO icon instead of
a specific Writer/Calc/Draw/etc. icon in the switcher. But Wayland is
not yet an option for me at present. Nevertheless it exists in GNOME
  Shell using X11.

- I haven't noticed similar behaviour with other programs with similar
- lags in the task switcher. This delay wasn't present (for me) before the
- upgrade/switch to GNOME Shell, so I'm assuming it's a Ubuntu/GNOME
- problem. I've also seen that similar problems have been reported in the
- past but for the most part they are quite old and I did not find this
- reported with the latest GNOME/Ubuntu 18.04LTS hence my new bug report.
- Thank you.

[Bug 1802574] Re: laptop screen never comes on after undock / sleep / open of laptop

2019-07-26 Thread David Baker
Was there ever a resolution to this. I am having much the same problem
using my Dell Latitude 7480 running Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS. In my case the
behaviour that causes problems is that I have the laptop docked and
suspend it - and then undock the laptop. When I attempt to restart the
laptop (undocked) I get the same behaviour reported by the OP - i.e.
laptop starts up and screen backlight comes on, but nothing is ever
displayed. I can switch to a virtual console and use that normally
including rebooting. There is nothing in /var/crash or on
http://errors.ubuntu.com/ . I have tried killing a range of X related
processes to see if I could get the GUI to restart - but without
success.

My guess would be that the system isn't coping with the dock (with 2
external monitors) being removed while it is suspended.

Let me know if any further system details would be useful.

[Bug 1837968] Re: GNOME Shell (X11) task switcher and LibreOffice

2019-07-26 Thread grey tomorrow
apport-collect done.
I also booted into a live session of Ubuntu 19.04 and the problem in fact does
not exist...but...
1) I'm not sure what system the live session boots into by default, Wayland or
X11,
2) as you can see the Alt-Tab task switcher is totally different from the 18.04
version!

[Bug 1837881] Re: error in gcc / g++ specs : '-pie' always added

2019-07-26 Thread JVD
I still think specifying '-fPIC' on the compile command line
and '-fpic' on the link line should have the same effect
as '-fno-PIE' (compile) and '-no-pie' (link).

Moreover, while I see you've added documentation for
'-no-pie' to gcc-7.info, there is no documentation there
for '-fno-PIE' .

It is a bad idea to ignore what the user specifies on
the command line - when I specify '-fPIC', gcc silently
contradicts me behind the scenes by adding '-fPIE', and
the same for '-fpic' (it specifies '-pie') .

[Bug 1837998] [NEW] Unexpected "Install RELEASE" launcher after installation

2019-07-26 Thread Romain LOUTREL
Public bug reported:

An unexpected "Install RELEASE" is present on my installed system after
downloading and running as USB key the Ubuntu installer from
https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-
you?country=DE&version=18.04.2&architecture=amd64

This is not a huge problem but it is confusing...

I found the suggestion to report a bug here
(https://askubuntu.com/a/338952) relevant. I will not further track this
bug and you can set it as "Will not fix" if you want, since I do not
plan to install once again my system (next planned: Ubuntu 20.04) and I
fixed my problem (by removing ubiquity).

However, it might be interesting to double check for the current version
and coming 20.04.

[Bug 1836153] Re: [18.04 FEAT] zKVM: Add hardware CPU Model - kernel part

2019-07-26 Thread Frank Heimes
@cborntra many thanks for the verification.

Commit 9967c2a is indeed not (yet) in this 4.15 bionic kernel.
It got upstream accepted with 4.20 and is with that in disco, hence that should
all work on disco:

$ git log --oneline | grep -m 1 "s390/mm: fix mis-accounting of pgtable_bytes"
e12e404 s390/mm: fix mis-accounting of pgtable_bytes
$ git tag --contains e12e404
Ubuntu-5.0.0-7.8
...
Ubuntu-5.0.0-22.23
v5.0
$ rmadison --arch=s390x linux-generic | grep disco-proposed
 linux-generic | 5.0.0.22.23 | disco-proposed | s390x

Regarding bionic, the patch you pointed out will be picked up with the upstream
stable release update process that is regularly done.
The next update is addressed by ticket LP 1836968 and covers patchset
2019-07-17, that includes "s390/mm: fix mis-accounting of pgtable_bytes"
(Ctrl+f on page https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1836968
will show)
Hence there is no need to open a new LP for this particular patch or to submit
it in a separate kernel SRU. Because it will probably come with the next bionic
kernel update (since LP 1836968 is already marked as Fix Committed).

I think with strictly looking at the KVM part we can consider this
verification as successfully done.

I will btw. mark the 'linux (Ubuntu)' entry that represents eoan and Fix
Released, because with it's 5.2 kernel it has already everything need.

[Bug 1837998] Re: Unexpected "Install RELEASE" launcher after installation

2019-07-26 Thread Romain LOUTREL
Just for the context:

Now I can remember, that the installation encountered problems while trying to
update the bootloader:

I could not go further retrying and/or skip (it was not frozen, but
clicks did not have any effect) which is why I hardly switched off my
computer at this point.

It might have avoid any post installation cleanup. If this is the case,
then just ignore this bug.

[Bug 1838002] [NEW] Wrong default location for the mysql socket

2019-07-26 Thread Nils Rennebarth
Public bug reported:

The sources are built with the configure command:

override_dh_auto_configure:
dh_auto_configure -O--buildsystem=cmake -- \
-DINSTALL_LAYOUT:STRING=DEB \
-DPLUGINDIR_DEB=mariadb3 \
-DWITH_MYSQLCOMPAT=ON \
-DWITH_EXTERNAL_ZLIB:BOOL=ON \
-DMYSQL_UNIX_ADDR:STRING=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

However in the sources in mariadb_config/mariadb_config.c.in,
there is the line
#define SOCKET  "@MARIADB_UNIX_ADDR@"

In include/mariadb_version.h.in:
#define MARIADB_UNIX_ADDR "@MARIADB_UNIX_ADDR@"

And in libmariadb/mariadb_lib.c:
mysql_unix_port = (char*)MARIADB_UNIX_ADDR;

So the sources must be built with
-DMARIADB_UNIX_ADDR:STRING=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
to have the desired effect. Otherwise the ages old default from CMakeLists.txt,
i.e. /tmp/mysql.sock
is used, which is of course different from what the ubuntu mariadb-10.3 package
uses.

** Affects: mariadb-connector-c (Ubuntu)

Can you try one of the mainline kernel builds, such as
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.3-rc1/? It is very
close to mainline kernel so we can use it to isolate if the bug is
caused by any patches in Ubuntu kernel.

[Bug 1836982] Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 520 touchpad not working

2019-07-26 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel to see
if the bug exists there as well? That kernel is available from:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.3-rc1/

If it's still not working, please attach the dmesg output to this bug.

(And it will be great if you can tell us which kernel prior to
4.15.0-54.58 works for you.)

Please change the bug status back to confirm after you have finished this test.
Thanks.

[Bug 1838008] [NEW] [snap] cursor theme isn't respected

2019-07-26 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

(initially reported at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/call-for-testing-
chromium-browser-deb-to-snap-transition/11179/85)

When changing the cursor theme with gnome-tweaks, I can observe that
some themes aren't respected in the chromium snap. This appears to be
specific to chromium, other snaps like evince or gimp use the correct
cursors.

Yaru and Adwaita are fine, but Redglass or Whiteglass aren't.

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 1828596] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2019-07-26 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From hbath...@in.ibm.com 2019-07-26 06:48 EDT---
Guilherme, the initial fix (udev rule) is still available. But while testing I
observed failure
due to systemd ratelimiting. I proposed to disable ratelimit but IIUC, Cascardo
preferred a different approach that does not involve disabling systemd ratelimit
and provided an updated package with a different approach to solve ratelimiting.
My recent comment is that there is no updated package but just the initial fix.
Hope that clears it up..

[Bug 1838014] [NEW] random segfaults in gawk on ppc6el xenial, gawk 1:4.1.3+dfsg-0.1

2019-07-26 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

When building fwts 19.07.00 in a VM or a chroot on Xenial ppc64el, I'm
seeing segfaults in awk:

./configure: line 10171: 15840 Done$LD --help 2>&1
 15842 Segmentation fault (core dumped) | $EGREP ': supported
targets:.* elf' > /dev/null

awk: cmd. line:1: (FILENAME=- FNR=1) fatal error: internal error:
segfault

I've also seen segfaults in grep, so I think this may be a recent
dependency change.

32 / 33 tests were run, missing: ubuntu_boot

  ubuntu_qrt_kernel_security - CONFIG_X86_PAE (bug 1837965)

The ubuntu_qrt_kernel_security for i386 is a new test, so I don't think
this is a regression.

Also, it would be good to try fwupd EFI application instead of fwupdate
as fwupdate is in sustaining mode and development focus has been moved

[Bug 1838011] Re: Issue with upgrading from 18.04 to Disco 19.04

2019-07-26 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for your report.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is intended to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.10
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CosmicCuttlefish/ReleaseNotes) or to Ubuntu
20.04 LTS (after 20.04.1's release), ie. the next release or next LTS
release.

If you read Ubuntu 19.04's release notes
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DiscoDingo/ReleaseNotes) you'll note only
mention of upgrading from Ubuntu 18.10 as this is all that's supported.

For information on Ubuntu upgrade paths please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes

Bug reports on an untested and unsupported upgrade path make little
sense, thus I've marked this bug report invalid. If you believe I'm in
error, please change it back to new and give a reason why you believe
it's valid. Thanks again for using Ubuntu.

[Bug 1002573] Re: FF defunct processes

2019-07-26 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. This bug was reported some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.

Does anyone still see a problem related to the one that was reported
when using currently supported versions of Ubuntu and Firefox? Please
let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in
approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1834340] Re: Possible regression on libssl upgrade when using TLSv1.3

2019-07-26 Thread David Zuelke
For some clarification: this is due to the upgrade to openssl 1.1.1 in
bionic-upgrades, which includes TLSv1.3 support. This leads to
connections being negotiated als TLSv1.3, and Google's IMAP servers
reject the connection (by returning an invalid certificate with a
message) if the attempt is not using SNI.

Here is a simple way to reproduce this, without a PHP script or
anything:

$ apt-get install uw-mailutils
$ mailutil check "{imap.googlemail.com:993/imap/ssl}INBOX"

This will work if the OpenSSL 1.1.0 library is installed, but fail if
1.1.1 is there:

root@e6e4f3531a65:/app# mailutil check
"{imap.googlemail.com:993/imap/ssl}INBOX"Certificate failure for
imap.googlemail.com: self signed certificate: /OU=No SNI provided; please fix
your client./CN=invalid2.invalid
Certificate failure for imap.googlemail.com: self signed certificate: /OU=No

root@e6e4f3531a65:/app# openssl version

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2019-07-26 Thread R P
Just switched to budgie (from lubuntu) and encountered this issue,
specifically while trying to fix the launcher shortcut for 'launch
terminal'. After trying a number of the suggested workarounds, including
the language/region ones, I dug into gnome settings and found that:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec x
-terminal-emulator

worked for me.
