[Bug 1766060] [NEW] Crash with "segmentation fault" executing strace with -S name switch

2018-04-22 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I am reading docker documentation
https://training.play-with-docker.com/security-seccomp/ and there are samples
how to use strace command for example to strace the whoami there is a sample to
be run from terminal:
strace -c -f -S name whoami

When I execute this command every time error appears:
"Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

I tried:
strace -c whoami
works fine

I tried:
strace -c -f whoami
also works fine.

But:
strace -c -f -S name whoami
every time returns "segmentation fault".

It looks like "-S name" switch is the cause of the problem.

[Bug 1766048] Re: Tearing / sluggish desktop since recent 18.04 update with AMD hardware

2018-04-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1766048/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1764853] Re: winbind returns PAM_AUTHINFO_UNAVAIL on first login after reboot

2018-04-22 Thread msaxl
i guess I found the problem.

winbindd somewhere does change its uid to the target uid to create the users
kerberos cache.
If keytab method contains system keytab (it does in my configuration), in
gse_krb5.c fill_mem_keytab_from_system_keytab there is a call to name_to_fqdn.
This function uses getaddrinfo to get the machines fqdn. This in turn connects
to system dbus (not as uid 0!). system dbus has not cached this uid's
"credentials" (there seems to be a hash table, see dbus-userdb.c line 148), so
it uses nsswitch configuration to get it. system dbus now connects to winbind.
But winbind seems to be blocking in this case (and system dbus now is blocked
to).
As soon as pam_winbind times out, the deadlock is broken, the needed
information is returned to system dbus, the info is put into the hashtable,
dbus is not blocked anymore.

The second time the info is in dbus's hashtable, so the deadlock does
not happen (this also explains why the second time I get the systems
fqdn but not the first time).

Keep in mind that this means calling getaddrinfo in winbind is only save
as uid 0, but I suggest the following (maybe better to be discussed
upstream):

insert a if(getuid()==0){ .. } around line 597 and 602 in gee_krb5.c
(https://git.samba.org/?p=samba.git;a=blob;f=source3/librpc/crypto/gse_krb5.c;h=4dd39eaf08d8f492b6b332cfb5b2f30e4c1ab575;hb=4dd39eaf08d8f492b6b332cfb5b2f30e4c1ab575#l597)

2018-04-22 Thread Maximilian Federle via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu freezes at the login screen or, if one is quick enough, shortly after
typing a few chars of the password.
Sometimes nothing except the power button works, at times I could reboot via
endless massaging of sysrq + b.

Last good kernel: 4.15.0-13
Mainline 4.16.3 is also affected.
Mainline 4.17rc1 is good again.

[Bug 1748287] Re: Nemo doesn't highlight selected text when renaming

2018-04-22 Thread Dominique Meeùs
I observe the same behavior with Nemo 3.6.5-1 amd64, Ubuntu 18.04, GNOME
3.28.1, theme Adwaita (default).
When I write this it makes me think to change the theme: bingo! the renaming
selection is normal with Ambiance or Radiance.

[Bug 1766068] [NEW] Using Zsh, it doesn't show an error message when command not found

2018-04-22 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

- Using latest Ubuntu Bionic, full updated.

- Using Zsh.

My ~/.zshrc includes the following line:

  . /etc/zsh_command_not_found

When I type (for example):

  $ sdlkfjslkdfjkdslf

it doesn't say nothing. No error message.

If I change the line #11 of /etc/zsh_command_not_found and I remove
'--no-failure-msg' option, then it works OK:

  /usr/lib/command-not-found -- ${1+"$1"} && : (line 11, without --no-
failure-msg option)

I think the above option should be removed from
/etc/zsh_command_not_found.

[Bug 1764645] Re: Bluetooth not working

2018-04-22 Thread Davide Riboli
The issue started with the first upgrade from kernel 4.15.0-13.

With kernel 4.15.0-13 bluetooth is working.

With every other after - included 4.17-rc1 (test done) - bluetooth is
disabled.

[Bug 1705743] Re: qemu-system-x86 crashes when VNC connection is established

2018-04-22 Thread Sergeev Alexander
I just ran into the same bug (Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS, fully updated at time
of the comment).

I've played with cmd arguments a little and it seems that the bug is
triggered at some length of the vnc socket path.

This is running okay:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -vnc unix:./service/vnc-sock

Also okay:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -vnc unix:../test-vm/service/vnc-sock

But this fails:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -vnc
unix:../test-vm/../test-vm/service/vnc-sock

[Bug 1764853] Re: winbind returns PAM_AUTHINFO_UNAVAIL on first login after reboot

2018-04-22 Thread msaxl
I've tested if my suggested workaround would work. see ppa:saxl/ppa.

It works :)

Summary: Default 18.04 installation should not be affected since
/etc/hosts contains an entry with the local hostname. If ubuntu removes
this line by default the default installation will break (afaik systemd-
resolved should replace every /etc/hosts since it also resolves
localhost).

Technical problem: winbindd process must not use dbus with uid!=0.

My workaround makes sure it will not happen (in this case, kerberos
method = system keytab will still deadlock). The impact of this patch
should be zero since on a correctly configured system only uid==0 will
be able to use /etc/krb5.keytab so this workaround skips the step
loading the system keytab and failing doing so.

[Bug 1766076] [NEW] USB over thunderbolt turns off every once in a while

2018-04-22 Thread Oded Arbel
Public bug reported:

I'm using a USB hub in the Dell TB16 (240W) connected to a Dell
Precision 5520 using Thunderbolt 3.

Every so often (can be several times in an hour if I'm really unlucky,
some days it is less of a problem), the USB hub disconnects from the
computer and the devices connected to it lose power and stop responding.

disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cables has no effect. I can
restore functionality by instructing the xhci_hcd driver to unbind from
the USB 3.0 Host Controller in the dock and to rebind to it using the
commands:

echo -n ":0e:00.0" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
echo -n ":0e:00.0" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind

Here's the dmesg output when the USB hub disconnects:

[Bug 360970] Re: Multi-monitor - When using two displays with different vertical resolution, icons get lost on the shorter display

2018-04-22 Thread Hans Deragon
Gnome bug #60280 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60280)
reports:

António Fernandes 2018-01-02 18:50:55 UTC
Starting with version 3.28, nautilus will not handle the "files on desktop
background" feature. For better alternatives, read this blog post
https://csorianognome.wordpress.com/2017/12/21/nautilus-desktop-plans/

If Bionic still has the issue, I assume that it is still using an older
version of Nautilus? We will need to wait for 2020 to get this fixed
for an LTS?

[Bug 1766077] [NEW] Power Save Blank Screen Resoration Ubuntu 18.04

2018-04-22 Thread Dennis McLeod
Public bug reported:

After Blank Screen has time operated, Display screens can be re-energized but
only to a display of colored noise all over them.
To recover the machine must be turned of and restarted from scratch.

The problem can be bypassed by deactivating the Screen Blank feature and
only using the suspend mode to avoid having to use a forced power off
and loosing data.

Thanks for the excellent investigation here and on Bugzilla 167103,
Dwip.

Can you clarify the changes to the kernel mentioned in comment 114? How
do they compare to the changes in Bz 165988 that we're considering
reverting?

2018-04-22 Thread S S via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

I had just done a power and BIOS reset to fix a battery problem --
disconnected the battery and the CMOS battery, and held down buttons to
reset the power configuration and BIOS. (Not sure I would recommend
this, but it worked!)

Booting back into Ubuntu, I had this problem. Things seemed normal, but
WiFi wouldn't connect, and any interaction with the system (trying to
change wifi networks, turn off wifi, power down, restart) just resulted
in no response. I did a Alt-SysRq REISUB and booted back in, saw this
error report, and here we are.

[Bug 1766083] [NEW] netplan cannot set IPv6 token

2018-04-22 Thread Justin Coffman

Public bug reported:

Summary:

This is already filed against nplan in Ubuntu at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nplan/+bug/1737976

netplan contains no configuration entry that allows one to statically
configure the IPv6 host ID (low 64 bits) when autogenerated (DHCPv6
stateless, SLAAC) addressing is used.

This should map to the IPv6Token entry for systemd-networkd (man
systemd.network, [Network] section), and the ipv6.token entry for
NetworkManager (https://developer.gnome.org/NetworkManager/stable
/settings-ipv6.html).
