[Bug 1582950] Re: broken apport hook: TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str'

2018-01-23 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Actually on the live session the hook reads /var/log/syslog which has read
access for the group adm and after installation it reads
/var/log/installer/syslog which does not and the code path is different.
In the former case decoding of utf8 bytes object is already done (the file is
read with the function read()) but not in the latter (the file is the output of
the command 'cat')

[Bug 1732892] Re: [MIR] 18.04 rdma-core as replacement for older ibverbs code

2018-01-23 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
@Seth - ibverbs-providers is the new catch-all for libmlx[45] and a bit
more - so it is in after cyphermox is done with the current list.

There might be more dependencies as soon as we pick up rdma support in
more packages, but until I know details I can't request explicit binary
packages yet.

I assume librdmacm1 will be needed
I will do so and ping here once I know for sure, until then thanks for
transitioning those we know already.

[Bug 1692476] Re: [18.04 FEAT]: qemu: Enable RDMA support in qemu

2018-01-23 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
We have just worked on pulling the new and combined rdma packages into main,
see bug 1732892
I will try to build a version with that support enabled in qemu, but I'd need
IBM to evaluate this if it is working for you as I lack the required HW setup
to e.g. do an rdma migration.

I'll ping here once a experimental build is available (or if there are
any show stoppers).

[Bug 1744884] [NEW] OverlayFS not writeable

2018-01-23 Thread Sebastian Sonne
Public bug reported:

A customer of ours has a collection of servers in a test environment which
mounts production data via NFS. The NFS is then mounted as the lower directory
of an overlayfs, $directory_workdir is mounted as the workdir, and
$directory_cow is mounted as the upper directory. However, as of recent, the
customer can not edit any data unless the necessary files are 'touch'ed first
(or if you use vim, force-written).

"uname -a" returns "Linux 4.4.0-104-generic #127-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec
11 12:16:42 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux".

[Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16

2018-01-23 Thread ArTaX
Same problem. However, I noticed that the issue disappears when you modify the
Dell firmware settings, e.g. updating the firmware, changing settings, ...
I reproduced this solution a couple of times. Then, the problem re-appears
periodically (perhaps after a kernel upgrade?).

Moreover, I suspect that this can be related to the "fastboot" feature
in the firmware. In my case it is activated. Maybe, after changing the
firmware, the system performs a full boot procedure, correcting any
system issue related to suspension. In the normal boot, however, these
checks are not performed, so the issue appears again and again.

Can you confirm if this option is activated also for you?
Maybe you can try to disable it and see if the suspension issue disappears.

2018-01-23 Thread linuxcub
The previous MenuAfter.jpg shows the "normal" behaviour, even after the
"--reinstall".

This MenuBefore.jpg shows how it looks like when I did my correction:

"1. Opened /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc with sudo nano
2. Searched for line containing: style "menu"
3. This line looked like this: style "menu" = "dark" {
4. Now changed it to: 5. style "menu" = "white" {
5. Saved the changes and rebooted "

[Bug 1744896] [NEW] Problem with COMBINING GREEK YPOGEGRAMMENI

2018-01-23 Thread Michael72
Public bug reported:

Version: 1.12.1+dfsg-4

Dear Maintainer,

to better explain, I attached the dictionary received by utility dictfmt
(grk-rus_strong.tar.gz). The dictionary is received on a command:

cat "$USERDATA_PATH/grk-rus_strong.html" | sudo dictfmt -e -u
"http://michael72.radiushosting.ru/UPRAVLEN/DICT.shtml?td";; -s
"Греческо-русский лексикон Нового Завета" --utf8 --columns
0 --index-keep-orig --headword-separator / grk-rus_strong

In the index file of this database at line No.8, you can see the essence of the
problem. Diacritic COMBINING GREEK YPOGEGRAMMENI (U+0345) stayed. This database
index file does not contain a special header: 00-database-allchars, that
indicates that the database assumes such search when using only alphabetic
characters, digits and a space, but the character U+0345 is not included in
this category.
In General, the essence of the problem is that the diacritical mark U+0345
COMBINING GREEK YPOGEGRAMMENI is perceived by dictfmt as an alphanumeric
character.

For solving this problem I want to suggest my patch:

[Bug 1744904] [NEW] can not print test page with dns-sd protocal when only ipv6 address is set

2018-01-23 Thread JerryFu
Public bug reported:

I can not print a test page with dns-sd protocal when only ipv6 address is set.
I suppose it is a Ubuntu OS issue.

[NG case: Ubuntu ipv6 test print]
OS: Ubuntu 16.04 64bit
printer connection:
dnssd://RICOH%20SG%203200%20%5BB9%5D%20(5)._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/

All Settings -> Network -> Wired -> Options... -> IPv4 Settings -> Method:
Disabled
All Settings -> Network -> Wired -> Options... -> IPv6 Settings -> Method:
Link-Local Only

I can successfully ping with the printer with the following commad.
$ ping6 fe80::226:73ff:feb9:%enp0s3

But when I print a Test page, the job state on "localhost:631/jobs/" is
"Unable to locate printer "rnp002673b9.local"." or "The printer is
not responding".

[OK case1: Ubuntu ipv4 test print]
OS: Ubuntu 16.04 64bit
(same as the NG case above)
printer connection:
dnssd://RICOH%20SG%203200%20%5BB9%5D%20(5)._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/
(same as the NG case above)
All Settings -> Network -> Wired -> Options... -> IPv4 Settings -> Method:
Automatic (DHCP)
All Settings -> Network -> Wired -> Options... -> IPv6 Settings -> Method:
Link-Local Only
(same as the NG case above)

The printer test page can be printed successfully.

[OK case2: Mac ipv6 test print]
OS: macOS 10.12
printer connection:
dnssd://RICOH%20SG%203200%20%5BB9%5D%20(5)._pdl-datastream._tcp.local./?bidi
System Preferences -> Network -> Ethernet -> Advanced... -> Configure IPv4: ->
Off
System Preferences -> Network -> Ethernet -> Advanced... -> Configure IPv6: ->
Link-local only

The printer test page can be printed successfully.

[Bug 1743111] Re: crash after update linux-image-4.13.0-26-generic

2018-01-23 Thread Henk Leusink
Installed the version 4.10.0-42-generic; installation went perfect. I
got an update message and updated to 4.13.0-26-generic. I can see the
system running but the screen shows only some lines and a small peace of
a window in the right part of the window. The system does not react on
the keyboard. I am running Lubuntu 17.10 on a Samsung Nc10 notebook. If
is not possible to generate an error report as requested.

Thanks for your help to solve this problem.

[Bug 1742894] Re: Scilab does not start after some upgrades on Ubuntu Xenial

2018-01-23 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Norbert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libjogl2-java into artful-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libjogl2-java/2.3.2+dfsg-
5ubuntu0.17.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-artful to verification-done-artful. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-artful. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1742894] Re: Scilab does not start after some upgrades on Ubuntu Xenial

2018-01-23 Thread Timo Aaltonen
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Software that use libjogl2-java (Scilab, Matlab,...) fail to run,

+ [Test case]
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. have installed Scilab on Ubuntu Xenial system
  2. install system updates
  3. try to launch Scilab from GUI - it does not start
  4. try to launch Scilab from terminal - it does not start with the following

  are available).
-

  Expected results:
Scilab works normally on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system.

  Actual results:
  see error above.

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04
- Package: scilab 5.5.2-2ubuntu3
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-104.127-generic 4.4.98
- Uname: Linux 4.4.0-104-generic x86_64
- ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.15
- Architecture: amd64
- CurrentDesktop: MATE
- Date: Fri Jan 12 12:02:32 2018
- PackageArchitecture: all
- SourcePackage: scilab
- UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
+ [Regression potential]
+ The fix is a simple oneliner that allows libjogl2-java to detect Mesa with
both new and original version of Mesa.

[Bug 1726996] Re: After a period of locked inactivity, gdm3 no longer lets me unlock my session ["No space left on device"]

2018-01-23 Thread Dan Watkins
As I mentioned in comment #2, this can be worked around. The issue is
that GDM3 assumes that it can get an inotify watch and degrades
ungracefully when it can't.

** Summary changed:

- After a period of locked inactivity, gdm3 no longer lets me unlock my session
["No space left on device"]
+ gdm3 will not unlock session (or switch to a PTY) when out of inotify watches
["No space left on device"]

Manually wget-ting the files, running dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-

installed, yet dpkg still complains about failed install, re-running
dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer "fixes" this (the extractor
seems enumerate the font files first, but then globs * anyway).

[Bug 1744917] [NEW] udev rules

2018-01-23 Thread michael
Public bug reported:

Hi
why can't the Udev rules be automated or removed? As described here users only
need to paste infos from lsusb etc.
https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/72733-writing-and-debugging-udev-rules/&page=2
But such a huge pain in the ass that no other os needs.
It really holds off many potential new Linux users if they can't get their USB
Joysticks working out of the box.
Thanks for fixing and make Linux competitive to other os.
I remember around a decade ago my joysticks simply worked out of the box before
we got Udev.
