[Bug 1475166] [NEW] Ubuntu 15.04 Install Error with Avago Controller
Public bug reported: Hello Canonical Team We are running to an issue installing ubuntu PPC64LE 15.04 full blown image on our servers (with RAID controller). Installation hangs around 70% of progress. An important part of our configuration is Avago RAID controller: 9361-8i Firmware version we used is 4.300.00-4429, and the package is 24.10.0-0002. IMPORTANT: It has to be noted that with same hardware configuration 14.10 full blown image installs fine. Dmesg logs are attached: Looking at dmesg logs point out that: LSI (avago) driver loads fine During further interaction with raid volume during the installation process, firmware errors are seen [ 196.991417] megasas: FW status 0x3 [ 196.999376] megasas: FW status 0x3 [ 197.007376] megasas: FW status 0x3 Further down the process I/O errors are thrown [ 217.438664] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052864 [ 217.438671] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052865 [ 217.438678] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052866 [ 217.438686] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052867 Full dmesg log is attached. [Bug 1441951] Re: Enable DRI3
At least as of the code shipped in Wily, DRI3 on Intel still has fairly obvious bugs. The least concerning one is that Unity7 will sometimes fail to notice the invalidation of buffers on monitor hotplug, and so will alternate between a correct buffer and a mostly-undefined buffer (probably a Mesa bug). The most concerning is that it appears to make resume-from-suspend with more than one monitor plugged in hang, apparently in the kernel (sysrq keys fail to work). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1441951 Title: Enable DRI3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1441951/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1472510] Re: Unbound returns SERVFAIL for specific query on dual stacked machine
[Impact] * Unbound is not able to look up certain hostnames in the default configuration when running on a dual stacked (IPv4 and IPv6) host. * The impact of this on users is that it can lead to a nasty surprise when a currently IPv4-only host gets IPv6 connectivity. [Test Case] * On a machine that is currently dual stacked, you can verify the problem with unbound-host. Forcing it to IPv4- and IPv6 only should work, while allowing both will fail. * IPv4-only (works): === unbound-host -4 -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net === * IPv6-only (works): === unbound-host -6 -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net === * Both (fails): === unbound-host -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net === [Regression Potential] * I am not aware of any regression risks. Looking at the upstream tree I am not able to identify any diffs surrounding r3127 that seem relevant to this bump. [Other Info] * See attachement for debdiff against wily. ** Patch added: "unbound_1.4.22-1ubuntu6.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unbound/+bug/1472510/+attachment/4429922/+files/unbound_1.4.22-1ubuntu6.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1472510 Title: Unbound returns SERVFAIL for specific query on dual stacked machine To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unbound/+bug/1472510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1458694] Re: [vivid-overlay] unity8 fails to start on the emulator
Daniel, relying on HW texture minification (or magnification) filters is fast but quite ugly in terms of contour anti-aliasing quality. Using distance fields instead allows for instance to have a 16x16 contour texture that can be rendered at 256x256 at perfect quality. It just requires a texture lookup and a smoothstep(). Retrieving the standard derivatives is almost free since the 4 texels required for the subtraction have already been fetched during the texture lookup (so still cached). It is the perfect thing for the shape since we need to get the shape mask under any scale factor as required by our grid unit system. This technique has been used for a decade now and is efficient, easy to implement and lightweigth in terms of texture usage. This is for instance also used by QML for text rendering. [Bug 1471530] Re: Acer Aspire 5315: Fan turns off when loading linux, resulting in system overheat and emergency shutdown
Christopher, thank you for that information and the direct link, I've been able to download the BIOS file. Unfortunately, it's a windows-only download. I've extracted it with archive manager, and the program inside is called "InsydeFlash.exe". Going by the wiki article you linked, it seems the only option for me is to use a Windows 7 repair disc, since I don't have a windows 8 system, the BIOS update is not dos based, and flashrom's wiki says it won't work on a laptop. Just one question: Do you know if I can use a windows-7 repair disc created on another computer to do the BIOS update? Because this laptop is ubuntu-only, and right now my windows desktop PC does not have a CD burner (I would get one for it if that could help me run the BIOS update). The system-restore thing doesn't want to create an ISO, otherwise I'd have moved it to the ubuntu laptop and burned it there already. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1471530 Title: Acer Aspire 5315: Fan turns off when loading linux, resulting in system overheat and emergency shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1471530/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1475204] [NEW] Fix kmalloc slab creation sequence
Public bug reported: [Impact] commit 4066c33d0308f8 breaks booting under KVM https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/6/26/341 I can no longer boot Linus's tree under KVM using a 32-bit i386 build; it just hangs before any messages get sent to the serial console. This following commit breaks 32-bit and 64-bit x86 if you have CONFIG_SLAB enabled. When I switched to CONFIG_SLUB, the kernel boots. So it appears this commit is breaking kernel configurations with CONFIG_SLAB enabled. It bisects down to: commit 4066c33d0308f87e9a3b0c7fafb9141c0bfbfa77 Author: Gavin Guo Date: Wed Jun 24 16:55:54 2015 -0700 mm/slab_common: support the slub_debug boot option on specific object size The slub_debug=PU,kmalloc-xx cannot work because in the create_kmalloc_caches() the s->name is created after the create_kmalloc_cache() is called. This patch restores the slab creation sequence that was broken by commit 4066c33d0308f8 and also reverts the portions that introduced the KMALLOC_LOOP_XXX macros. Those can never really work since the slab creation is much more complex than just going from a minimum to a maximum number. The latest upstream kernel boots cleanly on my machine with a 64 bit x86 configuration under KVM using either SLAB or SLUB. [Test cases] Currently, the bug can't be reproduced on the Ubuntu kernel by enabling the slab allocator with i386 and x86_64 architecture. However, in case anyone will hit the bug, the patch should be applied in the Ubuntu kernel. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: sts trusty utopic vivid ** Description changed: [Impact] commit 4066c33d0308f8 breaks booting under KVM https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/6/26/341 I can no longer boot Linus's tree under KVM using a 32-bit i386 build; - it just hangs before any messages get sent to the serial console. + it just hangs before any messages get sent to the serial console. If this bug is really bothering you, you can apply one of these work- arounds: 1) Remove the input device /dev/input/jsX that is mapped to your mouse (I tested it and confirm it works) 2) Disable the joystick input via xinput (as described on the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1663037) (I didn't test this, but other people seem to have success with it) 3) Add some udev rules as described here: https://gist.github.com/denilsonsa/978f1d842cf5430f57f6 (I tested this and it seems to work) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713556 Title: Sharkoon Fireglider mouse is wrongly detected as a joystick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/udev/+bug/713556/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1458694] Re: [vivid-overlay] unity8 fails to start on the emulator
I don't think it always has to look ugly. If your original texture is sufficiently smooth then the accuracy of the the hardware minification (or even using GL_NEAREST) is not a significant factor. That said, I was a bit lazy and used the same approach on the titlebar text and that's indeed a bit ugly. Elements that don't need pixel-sized fineness however actually end up quite nice.
