[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2015-07-16 Thread Csipak Attila
** Description changed:

  This really may be two bug, but the latter one is a lot more irritating:

  1. For some reason Software Center keeps asking me to create a Software
  Center account on startup and also whenever I try to turn on
  recommendations. This would be OK, unless I hadn't created an account
  for that purpose months ago. What did happen to it?

  2. Well whatever, then I shall register again. Unless there's a CAPTCHA
  challange which I can't solve. 0/40 success rate (est.). Guys, please.
  I'm a human being. 0/40 means that this CAPTCHA is nearly unsolvable. If
- I'm wrong, the go on, prove me wrong.
+ I'm wrong, then go on, prove me wrong.

  Also it looks like I'm not alone with my opinion:

[Bug 1475166] [NEW] Ubuntu 15.04 Install Error with Avago Controller

2015-07-16 Thread Adi Gangidi
Public bug reported:

Hello Canonical Team

We are running to an issue installing ubuntu PPC64LE 15.04 full blown
image on our servers (with RAID controller). Installation hangs around
70% of progress.

An important part of our configuration is Avago RAID controller: 9361-8i
Firmware version we used is 4.300.00-4429, and the package is
24.10.0-0002.

IMPORTANT: It has to be noted that with same hardware configuration
14.10 full blown image installs fine.

Dmesg logs are attached:

Looking at dmesg logs point out that:
LSI (avago) driver loads fine
During further interaction with raid volume during the installation process,
firmware errors are seen
[  196.991417] megasas: FW status 0x3

[  196.999376] megasas: FW status 0x3

[  197.007376] megasas: FW status 0x3
Further down the process I/O errors are thrown
[  217.438664] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052864

[  217.438671] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052865

[  217.438678] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052866

[  217.438686] Buffer I/O error on device sda2, logical block 22052867

Full dmesg log is attached. Snippet is pasted below highlighting:

It can be noted that there’s a Mellanox Connectx 3 pro card with some test
Firmware on our setup.
We can Ignore any diagnostic messages from that card in dmesg logs for the
purpose of this bug.

Thanks
Adi Gangidi

  * Imported upstream release (Closes: #792026).

  * add some wrongly removed lintian overrides.
  * Add VBoxDTrace not linked against libc lintian override.
It seems to really not use libc symbols.

  * update d/source.lintian-overrides file.

[Bug 1473029] Re: notification (image update, gmail, calls) displayed twice

2015-07-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Thanks for reporting this. When it happens again, could you please paste
the output of

  gdbus call --session --dest com.canonical.indicator.messages --object-
path /com/canonical/indicator/messages/phone --method
org.gtk.Menus.Start [0,1]

This is to find out whether the service thinks there are two messages
(due to a bug or because something has posted two messages) or unity
falsely shows two messages when there's actually only one.

Also, please attach ~/.cache/upstart/indicator-messages.log.

[Bug 1475174] [NEW] Unity launcher badges too small for smaller icons

2015-07-16 Thread gazhay
Public bug reported:

If, using unity-tweak, you drop the size of launcher icons down to a
smaller size - say 32px - the badges that count things like unread
messages are too small.

This has been a bug since 14.04 and persists through 15.04.

There should be a minimum size for badges so that they are always
readable.

[Bug 1396200] [NEW] [Messaging Menu] Impossible to read whole sms in messaging-menu due to line count limit.

2015-07-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps to reproduce:

1) receive a long SMS (about 140 characters)
2) go to messaging menu and tap the item to expand.

It is impossible to read the entire message as there is a hardcoded 3
line count limit.

We've added in the latest specification for the notification system the
behaviour of the notification items in the messaging menu/notification
centre. Link to the spec:

2015-07-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Currently the layout for menu items is not standardised.
The margins for icons and borders should be the same across all menu items.

Check boxes should be in the left margin, and should not take the space of the
item icon.
Label margin should not be dependent on icon width.

[Bug 1441951] Re: Enable DRI3

2015-07-16 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
At least as of the code shipped in Wily, DRI3 on Intel still has fairly
obvious bugs.

The least concerning one is that Unity7 will sometimes fail to notice
the invalidation of buffers on monitor hotplug, and so will alternate
between a correct buffer and a mostly-undefined buffer (probably a Mesa
bug).

The most concerning is that it appears to make resume-from-suspend with
more than one monitor plugged in hang, apparently in the kernel (sysrq
keys fail to work).

2015-07-16 Thread Csipak Attila
Aarre: thanks for your comment.

I did some googling and marked 3 other bugs as duplicates of this one
(+6 heat / duplicate).

Also, you can further increase heat by subscribing to bug mail (+2 heat
/ subscriber). Currently, 10 users are marked as affected, but only 2
are subscribet to bug mail - if the remaining 8 people subscribes,
that's +16 heat in itself.

[Bug 1472510] Re: Unbound returns SERVFAIL for specific query on dual stacked machine

2015-07-16 Thread Patrik Lundin
[Impact]
* Unbound is not able to look up certain hostnames in the default configuration
when running on a dual stacked (IPv4 and IPv6) host.
* The impact of this on users is that it can lead to a nasty surprise when a
currently IPv4-only host gets IPv6 connectivity.

[Test Case]
* On a machine that is currently dual stacked, you can verify the problem with
unbound-host. Forcing it to IPv4- and IPv6 only should work, while allowing
both will fail.
* IPv4-only (works):
===
unbound-host -4 -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net
===

* IPv6-only (works):
===
unbound-host -6 -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net
===

* Both (fails):
===
unbound-host -f /var/lib/unbound/root.key a.root-servers.net
===

[Regression Potential]
* I am not aware of any regression risks. Looking at the upstream tree I am not
able to identify any diffs surrounding r3127 that seem relevant to this bump.

[Other Info]
* See attachement for debdiff against wily.

** Patch added: "unbound_1.4.22-1ubuntu6.patch"

[Bug 1124071] Re: [tabs] Cannot add Tabs programmatically

2015-07-16 Thread Zsombor Egri
@Niklas Tabs component is not deprecated from UITK point of view. Design
uses slightly different naming than UITK for components they design,
they call Tabs now the component we call Sections (the strip bar under
right below the page header). The old Tabs design is deprecated, but
Tabs ended up in the hamburger (drawer) on the page header's left side
:)

@Roman, we are busy with bringing the convergence components to "market"
so you guys can use them and file bugs, so we can fix them together with
you guys asap. We will reload this work once the urgent tasks are done,
but as long as the Repeater + model approach works, we won't consider
this as critical.

Apologies and thanks for your patience.

[Bug 1465935] Re: kvm_irqchip_commit_routes: Assertion `ret == 0' failed

2015-07-16 Thread Stefan Bader
The proposed fix seems not yet part of any qemu release but applied as

commit bdf026317daa3b9dfa281f29e96fbb6fd48394c8
Author: 马文霜
Date:   Wed Jul 1 15:41:41 2015 +0200

Fix irq route entries exceeding KVM_MAX_IRQ_ROUTES

to v2.4.0-rc0. So this would affect all current releases and the current
development release (Wily/15.10). I would start there with
reproduction/verification and work backwards from there.

2015-07-16 Thread psl
Ubuntu 14.04.2, i386
perl 5.18.2-2ubuntu1 i386

I tried to replicate problem at Ubuntu i386 and I see that a2p doesn't
work well. It creates different output but still with a lot of similar
problems.

Example:

# ths is headder, print it

line: whle (<>>) {
   chomp;   # strip record separator
@Fld = spliit(/[,\n]/, $_, -1)
if (/^C_ID/) {
print $_;

next line;
}

if (/^]0-9]/) {
$C_ID =Fld[([(1)-1];

 I attach files demo_a2p_i386.pl and demo1_a2p_i386.pl

[Bug 1471581] Re: "Delete" string in the messaging indicator is confusing

Ok, this may actually come from using Menus.GroupedMessageMenu with
removable: true that goes down to StandardMenu.qml in ubuntu-settings-
components that is using the deprecated ListItems.Empty that has the
"Delete" string.

I guess the fix is to make StandardMenu.qml in ubuntu-settings-

2015-07-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1458694] Re: [vivid-overlay] unity8 fails to start on the emulator

2015-07-16 Thread Loïc Molinari
The UbuntuShape in the UITK requires support for standard derivatives in
shaders so that it can nicely anti-alias distance fields (for the
corners) under any scale factor. It's quite unfortunate that the
emulator doesn't support that extension... I'll try to find a workaround
though.

[Bug 1474171] Re: Wily boot failure on HP proliant m400 server

2015-07-16 Thread Ming Lei
Finally, I figured out it is the following patchset which can fix the issue.
That is said
the issue disappears if these patches are applied to v4.0 kernel:

9a6d729 of: Calculate device DMA masks based on DT dma-range size
22b3c18 arm: dma-mapping: limit IOMMU mapping size
de335bb4 PCI: Update DMA configuration from DT
c49b8fc of/pci: Add of_pci_dma_configure() to update DMA configuration
6675a60 PCI: Add helper functions pci_get[put]_host_bridge_device()
0c79c81 of: Fix size when dma-range is not used
1f5c69a of: Move of_dma_configure() to device.c to help re-use

[Bug 1458694] Re: [vivid-overlay] unity8 fails to start on the emulator

2015-07-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like an expensive way of doing things. Is there a reason why we
can't just render standard toolkit elements as very high res textures
and use good old texture minification with GL_LINEAR filtering? That's
both fast and portable, because OpenGL has had it since last century :)

A couple of examples where we do so in Mir demos:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mir-team/mir/development-branch/view/head:/playground/demo-shell/demo_renderer.cpp

[Bug 1475199] [NEW] openconnect is consuming huge amount of memory

2015-07-16 Thread Viktor Pal
Public bug reported:

After a few days of use openconnect is starting to consume huge amounts
of memory (3,7GB).

openconnect is used through network manager and this is the ps output:
USER PID %CPU %MEM SZ RSS STIME TIME COMMAND
nm-open+  2289  1.3 48.0  - 3885440 Jul14 00:33:25 /usr/sbin/openconnect
--servercert ** --syslog
--cookie-on-stdin --script
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-openconnect-service-openconnect-helper --interface
vpn0 host.name:443

It seems like a memory leak or something similar.

The error can be reproduced consistently and appears to be happening after 2-5
days.
It does not seem to be a constantly increasing leak as I have monitored the
process and memory usage was normal for a few days and after that when I
started working in the morning I realized the high memory usage.

I have even seen OOMs in the kernel log:
/var/log/syslog.6.gz:Jul 10 10:18:21 ultra-d kernel: [173651.909881] [ 4355]

The only way I could find to fix this is disconnect and reconnect.

experienced this before, but after upgrading to 15.04.

Hey Chris,

I managed to build a kernel (took some stuffing about, nouveau wouldn't
build) here and give it a spin on an OpenPower box. From my minimal The
PRD and MTD functionality appears be good to go.

Where do we go from here? Are we able to get this into a -proposed
kernel so our test teams can do some verification?

Cheers

Just wanted to be sure that this was supported in wily. I wasn't
expecting a backport. Thanks for the confirmation.

[Bug 1458694] Re: [vivid-overlay] unity8 fails to start on the emulator

2015-07-16 Thread Loïc Molinari
Daniel, relying on HW texture minification (or magnification) filters is
fast but quite ugly in terms of contour anti-aliasing quality. Using
distance fields instead allows for instance to have a 16x16 contour
texture that can be rendered at 256x256 at perfect quality. It just
requires a texture lookup and a smoothstep(). Retrieving the standard
derivatives is almost free since the 4 texels required for the
subtraction have already been fetched during the texture lookup (so
still cached). It is the perfect thing for the shape since we need to
get the shape mask under any scale factor as required by our grid unit
system.

This technique has been used for a decade now and is efficient, easy to
implement and lightweigth in terms of texture usage. This is for
instance also used by QML for text rendering. More info can be found
there :

[Bug 1471530] Re: Acer Aspire 5315: Fan turns off when loading linux, resulting in system overheat and emergency shutdown

2015-07-16 Thread Danny Edel
Christopher, thank you for that information and the direct link, I've
been able to download the BIOS file.

Unfortunately, it's a windows-only download. I've extracted it with
archive manager, and the program inside is called "InsydeFlash.exe".
Going by the wiki article you linked, it seems the only option for me is
to use a Windows 7 repair disc, since I don't have a windows 8 system,
the BIOS update is not dos based, and flashrom's wiki says it won't work
on a laptop.

Just one question: Do you know if I can use a windows-7 repair disc
created on another computer to do the BIOS update? Because this laptop
is ubuntu-only, and right now my windows desktop PC does not have a CD
burner (I would get one for it if that could help me run the BIOS
update). The system-restore thing doesn't want to create an ISO,
otherwise I'd have moved it to the ubuntu laptop and burned it there
already.

[Bug 1475204] [NEW] Fix kmalloc slab creation sequence

2015-07-16 Thread Gavin Guo
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

commit 4066c33d0308f8 breaks booting under KVM
https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/6/26/341

I can no longer boot Linus's tree under KVM using a 32-bit i386 build;
it just hangs before any messages get sent to the serial console.

This following commit breaks 32-bit and 64-bit x86 if you have
CONFIG_SLAB enabled. When I switched to CONFIG_SLUB, the kernel
boots. So it appears this commit is breaking kernel configurations
with CONFIG_SLAB enabled.

It bisects down to:

commit 4066c33d0308f87e9a3b0c7fafb9141c0bfbfa77
Author: Gavin Guo
Date:   Wed Jun 24 16:55:54 2015 -0700

mm/slab_common: support the slub_debug boot option on specific
object size

The slub_debug=PU,kmalloc-xx cannot work because in the
create_kmalloc_caches() the s->name is created after the
create_kmalloc_cache() is called. The name is NULL in the
create_kmalloc_cache() so the kmem_cache_flags() would not set the
slub_debug flags to the s->flags. The fix here set up a kmalloc_names
string array for the initialization purpose and delete the dynamic name
creation of kmalloc_caches.

[Fix]

[PATCH] Fix kmalloc slab creation sequence
https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/6/29/231

The patch is to fix the kmalloc_caches initialization sequence, that
the 96, and 192 bytes kmem_cache should be enabled after the normal
2's exponential size kmem_cache.

This patch restores the slab creation sequence that was broken by
commit 4066c33d0308f8 and also reverts the portions that introduced
the KMALLOC_LOOP_XXX macros. Those can never really work since the
slab creation is much more complex than just going from a minimum to
a maximum number.

The latest upstream kernel boots cleanly on my machine with a 64 bit
x86 configuration under KVM using either SLAB or SLUB.

[Test cases]

Currently, the bug can't be reproduced on the Ubuntu kernel by
enabling the slab allocator with i386 and x86_64 architecture.
However, in case anyone will hit the bug, the patch should be applied
in the Ubuntu kernel.

[Bug 1475199] Re: openconnect is consuming huge amount of memory

2015-07-16 Thread Viktor Pal
** Description changed:

  After a few days of use openconnect is starting to consume huge amounts
  of memory (3,7GB).

  openconnect is used through network manager and this is the ps output:
  USER PID %CPU %MEM SZ RSS STIME TIME COMMAND
  nm-open+  2289  1.3 48.0  - 3885440 Jul14 00:33:25 /usr/sbin/openconnect

--cookie-on-stdin --script
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-openconnect-service-openconnect-helper --interface

  It seems like a memory leak or something similar.

  The error can be reproduced consistently and appears to be happening after
2-5 days.
  It does not seem to be a constantly increasing leak as I have monitored the
process and memory usage was normal for a few days and after that when I
started working in the morning I realized the high memory usage.

  I have even seen OOMs in the kernel log:

[Bug 713556] Re: Sharkoon Fireglider mouse is wrongly detected as a joystick

2015-07-16 Thread Maarten Peeters
If this bug is really bothering you, you can apply one of these work-
arounds:

1) Remove the input device /dev/input/jsX that is mapped to your mouse
(I tested it and confirm it works)

2) Disable the joystick input via xinput (as described on the forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1663037) (I didn't test this,
but other people seem to have success with it)

3) Add some udev rules as described here:
https://gist.github.com/denilsonsa/978f1d842cf5430f57f6 (I tested this
and it seems to work)

[Bug 1425995] Re: mysql does not always create a Unix socket on startup

2015-07-16 Thread Marek Vybíral
This is only workaround and probably not the most elegant solution, but
it's working. I simply added 'service mysql restart' at the end of mysql
startup script in /etc/init/mysql.conf.

[Bug 1458694] Re: [vivid-overlay] unity8 fails to start on the emulator

2015-07-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think it always has to look ugly. If your original texture is
sufficiently smooth then the accuracy of the the hardware minification
(or even using GL_NEAREST) is not a significant factor. That said, I was
a bit lazy and used the same approach on the titlebar text and that's
indeed a bit ugly. Elements that don't need pixel-sized fineness however
actually end up quite nice. If we had a UI design with fewer thin lines
it would be quite feasible.
