[Bug 1421555] [NEW] add function to save all output directly
Public bug reported: Currently it's only possible to save output by selecting all output and copying it into an editor. This seems to be a tricky one. I was wondering if we can also make a coef dump. To do that, please do the following: 1) revert any changes done with hdajackretask or /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf 2) on top of 14.04, install the latest daily dkms package (from the alsa-daily PPA) 3) reboot 4) (as root) echo 1 > /sys/module/snd_hda_codec/parameters/dump_coef 5) start recording to headset mic and confirm that the bug is present (records buzzing noise instead of clear sound) 6) while recording is active, dump alsa-info 7) attach alsa-info (or a link to it) here Thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414706 Title: [20ALCTO1WW, Realtek ALC292, Black Mic, Left][Lenovo ThinkPad X240] external mic has no sound at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/1414706/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
I have the same bug as described on my fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04, however I'm with a newer kernel because of problems with my wifi drivers in previous versions, which were fixed: Linux 3.17.3-031703-generic #201411141335 SMP Fri Nov 14 18:36:40 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS 14.04 trusty The problem is reproducible multiple times. After closing the laptop lid and going in suspend for a longer period, when opened the laptop displays the welcome screen with my wallpaper, but does not have any field to enter password. Clicking any sound/lang icons on the menu bar does not help, but waiting for a bit of time does. Diagnostics so far: So I dig a bit myself and looked at the log of lightdm, with "the problem" occurring here: [+0.28s] DEBUG: Session pid=1224: Running command /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-greeter-session /usr/sbin/unity-greeter [+0.28s] DEBUG: Creating shared data directory /var/lib/lightdm-data/lightdm [+0.28s] DEBUG: Session pid=1224: Logging to /var/log/lightdm/x-0-greeter.log [+0.33s] DEBUG: Activating VT 7 [+0.33s] DEBUG: Activating login1 session c1 [+0.45s] DEBUG: Session pid=1224: Greeter connected version=1.10.3 [+0.60s] DEBUG: Session pid=1224: Greeter start authentication for alex [+0.60s] DEBUG: Session pid=1283: Started with service 'lightdm', username 'alex' [+1.67s] DEBUG: Session pid=1283: Got 1 message(s) from PAM [+1.67s] DEBUG: Session pid=1224: Prompt greeter with 1 message(s) [+3.49s] DEBUG: Session pid=1283: Authentication complete with return value 0: Success As can be seen the period 0.60-1.67 is just waiting for the PAM service to respond (1 minute wait). I typed my password asap as it was available, so my guess is it is connected with the PAM service. I will look into it, but if someone has an idea why would be great. The /var/log/auth.log does not contain any useful information for the why the problem is occurring. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311316 Title: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1311316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1420404] Re: Name entry in desktop file not localized
Ok, that was "fun" debugging, summmary of the issue - g_app_info_get_display_name() calls g_dgettext() - g_dgettext() decides on the translation strategy based on the return of the first call - ubuntu-system-settings main.cpp calls initTr(I18N_DOMAIN, nullptr) with I18N_DOMAIN = "ubuntu-system-settings", so that's fine, but then when the MainView component is initialized, the domain is overwritten with the applicationName value, which is "SystemSettings" - the first u-s-s call to g_dgettext() is made after that init, which has the wrong domain and leads to d_gettext() settling for "translations shouldn't be active there" to add to the fun - under unity7 the first call to g_dgettext() is made on start by external component providing desktop integration (theme, appmenu, ...), those calls success and enable translations, workarounding the previously described issues ... those components are not enabled under Mir though which explains why the bug seen only under unity8 In summary, changing applicationName to be "ubuntu-system-settings" (which is what the documentation suggests, it states that should = desktop name) should fix it, I'm submitting a fix for it -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420404 Title: Name entry in desktop file not localized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1420404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to report a bug; however, you have installed the package 'libsword' from an external source and therefore will need to report the bug to them. The package 'libsword-common' is trying to overwrite files from 'libsword'. This presumably happened because you are trying to install 'xiphos', which depends on 'libsword11', which depends on 'libsword- common'. I would try to remove all of those packages and reinstall only from the Ubuntu repository so you don't run into this problem. For trusty, the debdiff is a bit bigger because it includes all upstream fixes between 1.9.6 and 1.9.7. [Bug 1420404] Re: Name entry in desktop file not localized
The issue I debugged, which is what Victor reported on IRC, is that the name doesn't show translated in the notifications panel. Since that got uses gappinfo to get the name it should get the translations through gettext. [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
Also if you could answer the question in #108 this could help us a lot to further debug if necessary the PAM module. And to add, I'm also using a finger print reader (fprintd) as an authentication before the password, but there are some interesting facts about it(before anyone jump and point fingers there): It has a timeout of 10s, the wait for the password text area is ~1 min If I suspend the laptop manually and wake it it uses the fingerprint reader normally. If I close the lid and open it - the finger print reader authentication is not available and the bug occurs. Conclusion: Possibly the fprintd.so library is not loaded for some reason on lid open, or the PAM module encounters some problems, after which it falls back (somehow) to the unix password. Again if you answer #108 would be most appreciated.

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze
