[Bug 813409] Re: unity-panel-service uses CPU constantly when indicator-datetime is displaying seconds.
** Description changed: unity-panel-service is using a constant 1% of one of my cores on an Intel i7-2600 according to top, while the desktop is totally idle. When I switch to another VT, it makes no difference and unity-panel-service just keeps using the CPU. This obviously should not happen and will impact on battery life of notebooks. Also, using the CPU constantly negates the power-saving benefits of a tickless Linux kernel (http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/tickless/). + + Update: Found the cause to be that my indicator-datetime is set to + display seconds, not just hours and minutes. This seems to cause + unity/compiz to send the SyncOne and SyncGeometries dbus messages to + unity-panel-service every second. And profiling unity-panel-service with + callgrind shows it is spending all it's time in g_variant_ fuctions, + invoked by the dbus activity. So this needs to be optimized. It's quite + wrong that something happening only once per second should use so much + CPU. [Bug 813365] Re: compiz leaks memory, becomes sluggish and unusable after using it for few hours
Here is the graph, with 'Dialog Handler' disabled, and gtk-decorator instead of unity-decorator. All the non-default indicator were removed. The shape is clearly different, after a rapid increase during the 1rst hour, the memory loss is much lower but still important ( ~13MB/hour) I did the same test on a completely idle system (only default indicator, black screen), there is a leak but much smaller. [Bug 813946] [NEW] Huge No. of interrupts by SignalSender in Chromium-Browser
Public bug reported: Huge number of interrupts are being generated by Chromium-Browser with the heading 'SignalSender' and 'chromium-browser' as reported by powertop. Steps: 1. Open powertop and keep it ready in background. 2. Open chromium browser and open a tab or two. 3. Monitor the interrupts in powertop and look for number of interrupts under 'chromium-browser' and 'SignalSender'. 4. Close and observe powertop again. The number of interrupts are largely reduced. 5. Open something with flash or video content. The number of interrupts again goes beyond the roof and CPU usage becomes very high. It seems to be a upstream bug and moving to version 14 or above seems to have resolved this regression. Needs to be tested and recent versions made available in the Ubuntu repository. I have not myself tested it, because of lack to tools and expertise, but the upstream bug reports in chromium-browser project seems to indicate so. What you expected to happen - No. of interrupts / CPU usage should be under reasonable limits. What happened instead - High CPU usage. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 $ apt-cache policy chromium-browser chromium-browser: Installed: 12.0.742.112~r90304-0ubuntu0.10.10.1 Candidate: 12.0.742.112~r90304-0ubuntu0.10.10.1 Version table: *** 12.0.742.112~r90304-0ubuntu0.10.10.1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-security/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 6.0.472.63~r59945-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/universe amd64 Packages $ uname -a Linux ubnode6 2.6.35-30-server #54-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 7 20:13:05 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/813946 Title: Huge No. of interrupts by SignalSender in Chromium-Browser To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/813946/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 784280] Re: Logitech UVC webcam keeps disconnecting
Walter, it is very different with #753714. In #753714 , the problem is about a fullspeed usb camera(not uvc) plugged into a external usb highspeed hub, which is not supported well in linux, also is a dark area in usb 2.0 spec. This bug is about a uvc camera, which is a highspeed device, and the device is disconnected easily. Generally speaking, usb device disconnection is triggered by device itself, often is caused by bad usb cable or buggy device inside. Coud you try to plug this device(with same cable) into another machine(or windows) to see if it will happen again? thanks, -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/784280 Title: Logitech UVC webcam keeps disconnecting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/784280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 718944] Re: bzr-builddeb merge sorts the changelog by version order, rather than preserving existing ordering
I think these are acceptable test failures. dpkg-mergechangelog is a bit more liberal in what it accepts as a changelog entry which is why test_not_valid_changelog fails test_unsorted fails because dpkg-mergechangelog no longer fixes up the order of entries in the changelog. I think that is reasonable - it's doing a merge, not fixing the formatting of the changelog file (we don't expect a merge of two C files to clean up the indentation too). Of course, it should add new entries at the right place in the changelog, but it appears to be doing that. test_3way_conflicted is correct and does the right thing by merging the two changelog entries rather than conflicting. this is bug 517093 I think this also fixes a fair number of other bugs open against bzr- builddeb. [Bug 808963] Re: Ubuntu freezes when I try to connect to a wireless network
Hi, there are two kinds of problems. When using LiveCD, Ubuntu freezes randomily and these freezes are probably NOT connected to wireless hardware. (This happens even when wireless is disabled). This also happens of fresh installs, and can be resolved by using ATI Catalyst drivers. I think, according to aforesaid, that the problem is in the xorg-video-drivers-ati or something like that. BUT there is another freezing issue - the issue described in this bug, caused by wireless card. In fact, when using Catalyst (as a workaround for the 1st type of freezes), you can run Ubuntu as long as u want, u can even reboot it and it will not freeze. But after switching it off and on, it will freeze. That happens on 11.04, scott-marlowe, is the situation in 10.10 different? Can u switch if off and on (laptop) and does it work without problems then? My workaround is to blacklist the wired network module. I'll test the better BIOS workaround ment here and report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/808963 Title: Ubuntu freezes when I try to connect to a wireless network To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/808963/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
