[Bug 474495] Re: GNOME Applets fail to load on UNR 9.10 at boot

2011-07-21 Thread smauleon
Still present in 11.04. I installed window-picker-applet and I couldn't
add it to the top panel. I had the OAFIID:GNOME_WindowPicker error.

But yesterday I added it to the bottom panel without problems, and I
switched panels. When I booted this morning I got the same error.

Now I can't add the applet on either panel

[Bug 554099] Re: Qualcomm Gobi 2000 3G (gobi_loader/qcserial) broken

2011-07-21 Thread Kenrick Bingham
This still seems to be broken on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS x86_64. This worked
about a year ago, but stopped working with some kernel upgrade, probably
somewhere near 2.6.32-25. The device does not show up in Network
Manager, and "sudo modprobe qcserial" gives the error:

FATAL: Error inserting qcserial
(/lib/modules/2.6.32-33-generic/updates/wwan/qcserial.ko): Invalid
module format

Is this perhaps a packaging problem? I think it would be important to
restore the functionality of this device.

[Bug 803197] Re: silo-llnl version 4.8-3 failed to build on i386

2011-07-21 Thread Jean-Louis Dupond
We can sync this for fix the FTBFS.

silo-llnl (4.8-4) unstable; urgency=low

   * Add dependency on python-all-dev for extensions. Closes: #628820.
   * Check for errors in debian/rules with 'set -e'. Closes: #628818.
   * Disable python-write test that fails on python2.7. forwrd upstream.
 (note: it appears the code didn't work as planned on 2.6;
hence allow as exists rather than disable python2.7).
   * Python2.7 enables HDF5 tests: disable SZIP test,
as Debian does not have SZIP for licensing reasons.
   * Disable HDF5 largefile test (test fails on rounding error using floats)

[Bug 621265] Re: Slow Wireless Connection in Intel 3945abg

2011-07-21 Thread Simon Braunschmidt
I can confirm finding from Jan Frybort on commtent 342.

$ lspci | grep 3945
04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan]
Network Connection (rev 02)

With .38-8 i have internet download speed around 240 kbyte/s, with
.38-10 max 40 kbyte/s.

See attached a kern.log from /var/log, showing both boots with .38-8 and
.38-10.

Note the new log line "iwl3945 :04:00.0: Error setting Tx power
(-5)." that is only showing up in.38-10 boot.

You may ignore the brouhaha related to psmouse.c/iwl3945 restarting
further down in the log, this is entirely not related to the issue, it
does only occur when running the game "osmos" on this system, so
different bug, this issue "iwl3945 is slow" occurs also unrelated to the
issue "running osmos kills the system".

[Bug 766440] Re: SIGSEGV when opening email - Address out of bounds in RADEONUploadToScreenCS

2011-07-21 Thread Laurent Marchal
Hello Bryce,

I didn't know exactly what you were talking about the bugged version (-evdev
u12) and now it's version u12.1..
So I naively checked the xserver-xorg-input-evdev version that doesn't match at
all (Version: 1:2.6.0-1ubuntu12)

Anyway I updated all packages to the latest version and I still have the same
issue.
Thanks for your help!

[Bug 813409] Re: unity-panel-service uses CPU constantly when indicator-datetime is displaying seconds.

2011-07-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

unity-panel-service is using a constant 1% of one of my cores on an
Intel i7-2600 according to top, while the desktop is totally idle. When
I switch to another VT, it makes no difference and unity-panel-service
  just keeps using the CPU.

This obviously should not happen and will impact on battery life of
notebooks. Also, using the CPU constantly negates the power-saving
benefits of a tickless Linux kernel
  (http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/tickless/).
+
+ Update: Found the cause to be that my indicator-datetime is set to
+ display seconds, not just hours and minutes. This seems to cause
+ unity/compiz to send the SyncOne and SyncGeometries dbus messages to
+ unity-panel-service every second. And profiling unity-panel-service with
+ callgrind shows it is spending all it's time in g_variant_ fuctions,
+ invoked by the dbus activity. So this needs to be optimized. It's quite
+ wrong that something happening only once per second should use so much
+ CPU.

[Bug 813365] Re: compiz leaks memory, becomes sluggish and unusable after using it for few hours

2011-07-21 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Here is the graph, with 'Dialog Handler' disabled, and gtk-decorator instead of
unity-decorator. All the non-default indicator were removed.
The shape is clearly different, after a rapid increase during the 1rst hour,
the memory loss is much lower but still important ( ~13MB/hour)

I did the same test on a completely idle system (only default indicator,
black screen), there is a leak but much smaller. Over 10 hours, there is
a memory loss of 5.6MB/hour

[Bug 813947] [NEW] emerald crashes with SIGSEGV

2011-07-21 Thread Klaus Naumann
Public bug reported:

This bug report is for oneiric.

After updating recently, emerald is crashing in

#0 0x001e6c2a in decor_quads_to_property () from
/usr/lib/libdecoration.so.0

I've tried recompiling the source package and it leads to:

main.c: In function ‘decor_update_window_property’:
main.c:508:8: warning: passing argument 3 of ‘decor_quads_to_property’ makes
integer from pointer without a cast [enabled by default]
/usr/include/compiz/decoration.h:218:1: note: expected ‘Pixmap’ but argument is
of type ‘struct decor_extents_t *’
main.c:508:8: warning: passing argument 9 of ‘decor_quads_to_property’ makes
integer from pointer without a cast [enabled by default]
/usr/include/compiz/decoration.h:218:1: note: expected ‘int’ but argument is of
type ‘struct decor_quad_t *’
main.c:508:8: warning: passing argument 10 of ‘decor_quads_to_property’ makes
pointer from integer without a cast [enabled by default]
/usr/include/compiz/decoration.h:218:1: note: expected ‘struct decor_quad_t *’
but argument is of type ‘gint’
main.c:508:8: error: too few arguments to function ‘decor_quads_to_property’

I think with the new libdecoration0 version 1:0.9.5.0-0ubuntu1, the
arguments for the decor_quads_to_property() function call changed but
this is not reflected in the emerald package (and even not in the
emerald source, so this actually needs a code change to emerald as far
as I see it).

[Bug 813946] [NEW] Huge No. of interrupts by SignalSender in Chromium-Browser

2011-07-21 Thread Gurmeet
Public bug reported:

Huge number of interrupts are being generated by Chromium-Browser with the
heading 'SignalSender' and 'chromium-browser' as reported by powertop.
Steps:
1. Open powertop and keep it ready in background.
2. Open chromium browser and open a tab or two.
3. Monitor the interrupts in powertop and look for number of interrupts under
'chromium-browser' and 'SignalSender'.
4. Close and observe powertop again. The number of interrupts are largely
reduced.
5. Open something with flash or video content. The number of interrupts again
goes beyond the roof and CPU usage becomes very high.

It seems to be a upstream bug and moving to version 14 or above seems to
have resolved this regression. Needs to be tested and recent versions
made available in the Ubuntu repository. I have not myself tested it,
because of lack to tools and expertise, but the upstream bug reports in
chromium-browser project seems to indicate so.

What you expected to happen - No. of interrupts / CPU usage should be
under reasonable limits.

What happened instead - High CPU usage.

glchess is not written in Python any more so I'm marking this bug as
invalid.

[Bug 813948] [NEW] software-properties-gtk clears selection buffer when adding a repository

2011-07-21 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce

1. gksudo software-properties-gtk
2. click "other software" tab
3. in browser, highlight the address of a repository
4. in s-p-g click "add"
5. middle click in the text entry dialogue which appears.

what I expected to happen: the repository URL highlighted in the browser
should be pasted into the text entry box

what happened instead: nothing, and I had to go back to the browser and
reselect the URL, and then go back to the dialogue and paste it again.

[Bug 784280] Re: Logitech UVC webcam keeps disconnecting

2011-07-21 Thread Ming Lei
Walter, it is very different with #753714.

In #753714 , the problem is about a fullspeed usb camera(not uvc) plugged into
a external usb highspeed hub, which is not supported well in linux, also is a
dark
area in usb 2.0 spec.

This bug is about a uvc camera, which is a highspeed device, and the device
is disconnected easily.

Generally speaking, usb device disconnection is triggered by device itself,
often
is caused by bad usb cable or buggy device inside.

Coud you try to plug this device(with same cable) into another machine(or
windows)
to see if it will happen again?

thanks,

[Bug 718944] Re: bzr-builddeb merge sorts the changelog by version order, rather than preserving existing ordering

2011-07-21 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
I think these are acceptable test failures.

dpkg-mergechangelog is a bit more liberal in what it accepts as a
changelog entry which is why test_not_valid_changelog fails

test_unsorted fails because dpkg-mergechangelog no longer fixes up the
order of entries in the changelog. I think that is reasonable - it's
doing a merge, not fixing the formatting of the changelog file (we don't
expect a merge of two C files to clean up the indentation too). Of
course, it should add new entries at the right place in the changelog,
but it appears to be doing that.

test_3way_conflicted is correct and does the right thing by merging the
two changelog entries rather than conflicting. this is bug 517093

I think this also fixes a fair number of other bugs open against bzr-
builddeb. In particular: bug 517090, bug 552950

2011-07-21 Thread Scott Moser
Hi,
I'm marking this invalid as it is a bug resulting from installing a
non-ubuntu package on ubuntu.
That said, I understand that your primary reason for attempting this is that
there are no openbios binaries in qemu-kvm on Ubuntu.
Could you please open a new bug to that effect? I'm possibly missing
something, but it seems like the right path may be to open bugs against
openbios-sparc [1] and openbios-ppc [2] are not sufficient, which are currently
fail to build from source (FTBFS).

[Bug 808963] Re: Ubuntu freezes when I try to connect to a wireless network

2011-07-21 Thread Tommy_CZ
Hi, there are two kinds of problems. When using LiveCD, Ubuntu freezes
randomily and these freezes are probably NOT connected to wireless hardware.
(This happens even when wireless is disabled). This also happens of fresh
installs, and can be resolved by using ATI Catalyst drivers. I think, according
to aforesaid, that the problem is in the xorg-video-drivers-ati or something
like that.
BUT there is another freezing issue - the issue described in this bug, caused
by wireless card.
In fact, when using Catalyst (as a workaround for the 1st type of freezes), you
can run Ubuntu as long as u want, u can even reboot it and it will not freeze.
But after switching it off and on, it will freeze. That happens on 11.04,
scott-marlowe, is the situation in 10.10 different? Can u switch if off and on
(laptop) and does it work without problems then?
My workaround is to blacklist the wired network module. I'll test the better
BIOS workaround ment here and report.
