[Bug 570049] [NEW] lsusb hangs forever

2010-04-26 Thread Seth Hikari
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usbutils

when I run lsusb it hangs there and does nothing at all, forever. When I
hit ctr-c it does not kill it and I have to kill it by hand. I only have
a basic keyboard and mouse plugged as well as stupid broadcom usb
wirless that I am trying to get to work.

I tried running it with gdb to see if anything else happens, nope just
says starting program than hangs.

lsusb runs with the same devices on a diferent computer (running X64
Lucid )

[Bug 569744] Re: Can't find "Skype" package

2010-04-26 Thread Draycen DeCator
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Unfortunately, Skype is not in
the official Ubuntu repositories, and Medibuntu has stopped providing it
in their repository (https://bugs.launchpad.net/medibuntu/+bug/494564).
It looks as though you may be able to link to the Skype repository, but
I'm not sure if these directions will still work:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Skype#Installing%20Skype . There is
always the option of downloading the .deb from the Skype website. Sorry
for the inconvenience. Please continue to report any other issues that
you encounter!

** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu)

[Bug 570052] [NEW] Inconsistent 'trash' naming

2010-04-26 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu (Lucid), I can count at least four different namings of the
'Trash' directory: Wastebasket, Trash, Deleted Items and Garbage bin.
This is quite visibly inconsistent and looks a little unprofessional.
Please see the attached screenshot for locations of these namings.

[Bug 530032] Re: Web browsers can freeze the whole system

2010-04-26 Thread Draycen DeCator
Since this seems to happen with other applications for both of you, can
you please let us know what graphics cards you are using? If you do not
know off-hand, then running 'lspci | grep VGA' in a terminal will tell
you what brand you have. It sounds like this could be a problem related
to the graphics card/driver.

[Bug 363101] Re: gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor prevents Sansa e250 player from auto-mounting

2010-04-26 Thread Imran Chaudhry
The reporter said "this seems to be fixed", to me that does not seem
100% sure.

The bug is still present in Karmic. Killing gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
does not help.

After killing gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor, it almost gets there:

[ 5379.004052] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 5379.141025] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 5379.162235] scsi5 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
[ 5379.162444] usb-storage: device found at 5
[ 5379.162447] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

Without killing it, this is what I get a dmesg output with "usbfs:
USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed"

I'm using a Sony B135 MP3 player:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 054c:036e Sony Corp.

Sorry I didn't open a new bug as stated. It seemd right to append here.

Ubuntu 10.04 is out in a few days. I intend to upgrade and try again.

Switched to gnome desktop in Mythbuntu 10.04 Beta 2 encountered this
bug. Needed to do the workaround.

Latest available version of mythtv on synaptic is:
0.23.0+fixes24158-0ubuntu2

Not sure if the numbering on trunk vs. fixes correlates... it still
seems to appear in this 'fixes' branch however.

[Bug 570061] [NEW] Lucid gnome runs 'startup-applications' out of phase for remapping keyboard

2010-04-26 Thread Adrian Custer
Public bug reported:

Hey all,

Gnome offers a way to startup applications for a user "System" >
"Startup Applications". I have been using that for about a decade to
remap the keyboard, exchanging the "Caps Lock" and "Backspace" keys. In
Lucid, this does not work during 'auto-login' at startup, but if I log
out and then log back in, it works correctly. It seems the new rapid
starting strategy does not take this case into consideration.

For info, the startup script is:
eratosthenes:~> cat ConfigFiles/keyset.sh
xmodmap -e "clear Lock"
xmodmap -e "keycode 66 = BackSpace"
xmodmap -e "keycode 22 = Caps_Lock"
xmodmap -e "add Lock = Caps_Lock"

As I understand, this is probably not how the new X needs to be
manipulated but it has been working and works if I logout then login so
it seems mostly an issue in the ordering of scripts which affect X.

cheers,
adrian

[Bug 570060] [NEW] nautilus actions %M doesn't work

2010-04-26 Thread Mike Durham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to pass a directory to an App "--path=%M" it doesn't work. The %M
(directory) is passed to the App as a seperate arg.
What should be:
App
path=/home/mike/Graphics/ArtDeco

gets passed as:

App
path=
/home/mike/Graphics/ArtDeco

Therefore the path= becomes meaningless and it always assume the home
directory.

ProblemType: Bug

Ok; no idea where the issue is, then.

For completeness, could you attach the output of:
objdump -T /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6| grep __fxstat64

albeit I have no idea why it's not working for you.

Changed my bug to invalid, because I seemed to be the only one affected.
And it is probably caused by me messing up my apt. Although I did not do
something specifically.

[Bug 545339] Re: irq 20: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)

2010-04-26 Thread Ricardo Fernández
I have this same problem, but it is with IRQ5, 4, 3 and 1.

I had to use "noapic" and it seems it worked, but now suspend doesn't
work and I can't check the battery charge.

Lucid 10.04RC1

I don't have a dmesg because IRQ1 is the harddrive controller so it
doesn't let write a log with the error, but it is pretty much the same
as this bug.

The dmesg I'm sending is the one when it boots with noapic

[Bug 474455] Re: [g33] dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (with sudo) ends abruptly. Does not show the configuration screens.

2010-04-26 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
@Rick Bryce: This is not a forum for support requests, but a tracker to
fix defects in the software that makes up Ubuntu. The fact that dpkg-
reconfigure no longer writes out an xorg.conf is not a defect. In the
vast majority of cases X can better detect the appropriate configuration
than what we had in the reconfigure hooks.

If you're having problems with the configuration of Ubuntu you can ask a
question on https://answers.launchpad.net/ or get support in the Ubuntu
forums: http://ubuntuforums.org .

[Bug 570065] [NEW] No permission to access files on additional hard drives

2010-04-26 Thread joker
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

$ uname -a
Linux venus 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux

6 hard drives were configured during a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04
Release Candidate 1. The user is able to create and delete files on the
first hard drive, /dev/sdc, but additional hard drives have root as the
owner and group, with the user unable to make any changes to the
filesystem.

This was verified with manual partitioning creating the necessary,
missing directories on /dev/sdc6, and again by creating the file
structure manually before installing. The expected functionality would
be for the user to be able to have rwx access for any folders under
their own personal directory, unless these were specifically chown and /
or chgrp to root.

$ cat /etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name

[Bug 570064] [NEW] switching between user accounts freezes the system

2010-04-26 Thread Tomi Juntunen
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 RC on my EeePC 1000H, and I'm having this issue
when I have two user accounts logged in and I'm currently using one of

system freezes between desktop and login screen (when the screen goes
black when logging out) and it doesn't respond to any commands anymore.

[Bug 522818] Re: flashplugin-installer: local downloaded package not found

2010-04-26 Thread Joel Ebel
The problem appears to be an inconsistency between the config file and
the postinst. I'm unsure what the intended behavior is, but the config
file checks for the filename and sha256sum of the upstream tarball from
adobe which is install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz" If that's not
found, then it complains that it can't find the upstream tarball.
However, the postinst proceeds assuming that the file you downloaded is
the one from archive.canonical.com, which is adobe-
flashplugin_10.0.45.2.orig.tar.gz and has a different checksum. In
fact, it appears that the only way to fool it is to download both those
files into /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree.

I can easily write a patch to make the control file expect the file from
archive.canonical rather than the upstream tarball. To make the
postinst deal with the upstream tarball rather than the canonical
package would be a bit more tricky. It would be nice to have
confirmation from the package maintainer what the expected behavior is
supposed to be.

Happens to me on latest lucid.
To avoid the problem I have to click on the local in box "On This Computer" as

Then I wait until my mapi folders have been detected and listed and can
then click on my MAPI inbox, and it will work fine.

[Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2010-04-26 Thread Ricardo Fernández
The driver provided in a .deb by someone in this bug as an attachment
doesn't work for 10.04 (used to work for 9.04 and 9.10).

I had to use the VESA driver wich is really bad for video playback.

I know Ubuntu wants to keep close with Debian but this bug is about to
have 2 years and no solution at all to the ubuntu users that have this
video card (wich is quite popular to be honest), in the meantime distros
like Fedora, Mandriva and SuSE have this fixed already.

[Bug 570067] [NEW] flash plugin crashing when going fullscreen

2010-04-26 Thread Friedemann Schorer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: chromium-browser

The flash plugin works fine embedded (regardless which flash package is
installed), but when I hit the fullscreen button to view a video in full size
(e.g. at Youtube) the plugin crashes.
As Firefox did so likewise I tried to add a line to the chromium startupscript
which reads like this:

export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libGL.so

After doing so the flash plugin works fine in fullscreen mode.

[Bug 568220] Re: Lines Run Down my Ubuntu

2010-04-26 Thread Draycen DeCator
Could you test this with a Live CD to see if the problem still occurs in
the live session? You may want to test with the latest development
release, Lucid Lynx, since it is due for release this week. You can get
the file here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/

This will give us a better idea if it's Ubuntu causing the issue, or
something unique to the installed version currently on your computer.

If you test with the Lucid CD, and the problem does not occur, you may
want to consider upgrading to it from 9.10 once it is released.

Let me say that i love Kate to the bone.

Is there any way to make it behave with a simple 'recent docs' way a-la

[Bug 569900] Re: mount: mounting /dev/md0 on /root/ failed: Invalid argument

2010-04-26 Thread ceg
Your probably hitting several bugs.

I have also seen some differences in the geometry of virtual drives (at
least I tent to size them to some human friendly number). I have seen
some "unused space" things and (c)fdisk complaining.

IIRC the most usefull way with md's partitionable array feature is to
use the entire disk ("sdX") as members. Then you can partition the md
device, and by this partition all mirror devices at the same time. If
you create the array from one member + "missing" the partition table on
the disk gets used for the raid. Mdadm will create only a configurable
number of device nodes for partitions though.

Does blkid detect sdX wrongly as raid?

mdadm --incremental defaults to set up arrays with partitionable device
nodes if auto= is not defined otherwise in mdadm.conf. Not a bad idea in
general, but mdadm is only able to do so during initramfs. (map file is
missing later). Also devices are not automatically removed from the
array and block readdition by incremental. See Bug #495370.

Bug #551719 enabled kernel raid autodetection disturbs udev/mdadm
(initramfs & later)

[Bug 563578] Re: Boot Splash Hindering Boot on Macbook / Mac Pro

2010-04-26 Thread Dawning
Update: As it now stands, I'm not observing any start up boot splash on
my Macbook. However I am seeing it during shutdown. And the machine
seems to be booting up/down just fine.

My machine is fully updated 10.04 x64 as of the date of posting this
message.
