[Bug 454451] [NEW] package nouveau-kernel-source 0.0.11+git20090404-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2009-10-18 Thread glemley8
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nouveau-kernel-source

I'm not sure if I'm doing something completely wrong or not... My goal
is to install the Nouveau drivers. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on a PowerPC
with Nvidia graphics. Was I doing something wrong, or is this a
legitimate bug?

[Bug 451015] Re: Crash due to brackets

2009-10-18 Thread Sandy Armstrong
Assuming your problem is also really caused by curly braces and not
angle brackets, this is now fixed in git. If the Ubuntu packagers want
to include this fix, here's the commit:

I'm suffering from a similar problem which happens every time I boot the

I've attached a bootchart to illustrate it.

It also affects mplayer, so I imagine it's setting somthing in the

the less fully featured open driver it may be the facility to set

[Bug 454456] [NEW] Failed to boot LiveCD iso from ext4 parition

2009-10-18 Thread Dylan Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lupin-casper

The use case is that I was trying to run the LiveCD for the Ubuntu
Karmic beta (http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ubuntu-9.10-beta-
desktop-i386.iso) without burning a CD. Instead I tried using grub2's
loopback feature to load the iso image from an ext4 partition.

Instead my ext4 partition wasn't loaded, and I got dropped to the shell from
the initramfs due to a panic in /scripts/casper-premount/20iso_scan (on line 35
along with the error message I get). I was able to continue loading the LiveCD
with the following commands:
(initramfs) mount -t ext4 /dev/sda5 /isodevice
(initramfs) echo
"LIVEMEDIA=/isodevice/home/dylan/Desktop/ubuntu-9.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso" >>
/conf/param.conf
(initramfs) echo "LIVEMEDIA_OFFSET=0" >> /conf/param.conf
(initramfs) exit

# Grub2 menuentry for booting the iso image:
menuentry "ubuntu-9.10-beta.iso" {
insmod ext2
loopback loop (hd0,5)/home/dylan/Desktop/ubuntu-9.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso
linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz
iso-scan/filename=/home/dylan/Desktop/ubuntu-9.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso
file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper quiet
initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz
}

I found the problem was in /scripts/lupin-helper, since it's is_supported_fs
function doesn't list ext4 as supported, so my ext4 partitions get skipped when
looking for the iso file, even though I had no problem mounting the ext4
filesystem manually. I fixed the problem with the following steps after
booting normally (i.e. no LiveCD):

mount -o loop /home/dylan/Desktop/ubuntu-9.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso /mnt
mkdir ~/cpio && cd ~/cpio
lzcat < /mnt/casper/initrd.lz | cpio -id
vi ~/cpio/scripts/lupin-helper # See the attached patch for my changes.
find . -print | cpio -o -H newc | lzma -c > ~/initrd.lz
sudo vi /boot/grub/grub.cfg # Change the initrd line: initrd
(hd0,5)/home/dylan/initrd.lz

The lupin-helper script appears to be part of the lupin-casper package,
and my patch still applies to bazaar repository for the package
(http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-installer/lupin/hardy).

lupin-casper version: 0.25

Let me know if anything isn't clear (e.g. I may have made typos in the
commands for this post).

[Bug 347646] Re: Wine associated program loads too slow

2009-10-18 Thread joewski
Sorry I have to disagree, Monkey, if the code is slow and I mean really
slow then it should be notifying the desktop that it is slow by putting
on the hour glass. This is not the case so the user is left wondering
what the hell is going on. So they click the application again assuming
that the program hasn't started.

Also some applications that are clicked don't even seem to ever start,
its as if they have died silently.

Ignoring poor performing code just to get a bug counts down is not the
way to better quality.

[Bug 452679] Re: nautilus on drag n drop to network drive kills desktop

2009-10-18 Thread joewski
I checked the directories that you have mentioned Sebastien and found no crash
reports.
I have activated apport by setting the value to 1

I can reproduce the desktop crash consistently. I also have some clean
machines and will see if the crash occurs on those machines.

Interesting I test Ubuntu 9.10 on monday and did not have the same
problem.

I will do more testing.

Launchpad isn't really the right place to agitate for regime change :), but
given that this is a chronic issue for Argentina, I do strongly encourage
Argentines to communicate to their government that last minute changes to
daylight savings rules are irresponsible and cost businesses a lot of time
and money due to the confusion. Martin does a wonderful job of making
tzdata updates available as quickly as possible, but it's not enough for the
updates to be available if the information isn't disseminated in a manner
that gives *people* time to plan appropriately...

Rinias, you are not recommended to make your bug public if it contains a
CoreDump.gz, since it usually contains private data. Instead we usually
wait for the apport retracer bot to process it and leave only a stack

[Bug 454342] Re: FFe: grab kazehakase 0.5.8 from Debian unstable

2009-10-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package kazehakase - 0.5.8-1ubuntu1

---
kazehakase (0.5.8-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Freeze exception for new upstream version; LP: #454342.
  * Relax ruby-gnome2-dev build-dependency to 0.19.0-2ubuntu4, which has the
missing headers.
  * Hard-code the dep on xulrunner 1.9.1 again instead of using dh_xulrunner,
which we don't yet have in Ubuntu.

kazehakase (0.5.8-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * debian/control (Build-Depends): Add libdbus-glib-1-dev.  Require
libgtk2.0-dev >= 2.17.7 (per configure.ac, although 2.16 is
sufficient).  Add libwebkit-dev.  Require xulrunner-dev >= 1.9.1.3-2
for dh_xulrunner and the forthcoming xulrunner 1.9.1 transition;
thanks Mike Hommey (Closes: #548678).
(Description): Typo fix.
(kazehakase-gecko) : Remove ${gecko:Depends} and
xulrunner-1.9; add ${shlibs:Depends} and ${misc:Depends}.
: Remove; not needed anymore. Instead...
: ...kazehakase.
(kazehakase-webkit): Reinstate package, it is more usable now and
doesn't crash all the time (Closes: #483784, #508152).
(Depends): Add kazehakase-webkit as an alternative.
(kazehakase-dbg): New package.
  * debian/patches/15_gnutls-check.dpatch: Remove; fixed upstream.
  * debian/patches/30_xulrunner-1.9.1.dpatch: Make the xulrunner detection
more robust and conditionally define GREVersionRange, similar to
chmsee. Thanks to Mike Hommey for the pointer.
  * debian/patches/40_GLIB_LIBS.dpatch: Check for the gthread module and
link kz-embed-process against it.
  * debian/patches/47_ldflags-rpath.dpatch: Refresh and link
per_process.so against GTK_LIBS and libkazehakase, and webkit_gtk.so
against the latter.
  * debian/patches/05_thumb_filename-typo.dpatch: New; fix typo in the
name of egg_pixbuf_get_thumbnail_filename, leading to a crash when the
search module is used.
  * debian/patches/07_xulrunner_init-sanity-check.dpatch: New; check the
return value of xulrunner_init, popup a dialog and terminate the
application in case of failure. Thanks to Mike Hommey for the idea.
  * debian/patches/15_kz-embed-process-pkglibexecdir.dpatch: New; install
kz-embed-process in pkglibexecdir instead of bindir.
  * debian/patches/35_PATH_MAX.dpatch:
  * debian/patches/43_AC_USE_SYSTEM_EXTENSIONS.dpatch:
  * debian/patches/45_link_gtk_libs.dpatch:
  * debian/patches/50_autoreconf.dpatch:
  * debian/patches/60_desktop-entry.dpatch: Refresh.
  * debian/patches/90_xulrunner_1.9.dpatch: Update; two more hunks were
merged upstream.
  * debian/patches/00list: Update.
  * debian/rules (config.status): Revert last bogus change. Pass
--libexecdir. Remove --disable-gtkmozembed, it is now the default.
Pass --disable-shave to get verbose build logs.
(clean): Delete the dolt* crap. Don't delete rgettext.mk; handled by
AC_CONFIG_FILES.
(install): Remove duplicate binaries here, not in binary-arch.
(binary-arch): Simplify; use dh_shlibdeps.  Pass --dbg-package to
dh_strip.  Invoke dh_xulrunner.
  * debian/kazehakase-gecko.install: Install kz-embed-process and
per_process.so here, since it relies on the Gecko engine.
  * debian/NEWS: Announce the new "per_process" module and the return of
-webkit.
  * debian/copyright: Update copyright years, add more copyright holders.
Include the blurb of LGPLv3 and mention that the whole package is
distributed under GPLv3+.

kazehakase (0.5.6-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/control (Build-Depends): Drop versioned requirement for
xulrunner-dev; Lenny has higher version. Require ruby-gnome2-dev (>=
0.19.1) to ensure that the Ruby extension is built (#542126).
(Vcs-Arch): New field.
  * debian/patches/35_PATH_MAX.dpatch: New, fixes FTBFS on GNU/Hurd.
  * debian/patches/43_AC_USE_SYSTEM_EXTENSIONS.dpatch: New, needed for the
declaration of `strptime'.
  * debian/patches/47_ldflags-rpath.dpatch: Revert erroneous ruby.la
rename and group module's LDFLAGS to avoid Automake warning.
  * debian/patches/50_autoreconf.dpatch: Regenerate.
  * debian/patches/00list: Update.
  * debian/rules (config.status): Touch config.h.in to avoid undesirable
regeneratation of the build system.

kazehakase (0.5.6-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- No longer uses the deprecated GTK_CHECK_CAST macro which was leading
  to FTBFS with recent GTK+ (Closes: #527657).
  * debian/compat: Set to 7.
  * debian/control: Wrap all fields for diff-friendliness.
(Maintainer, Uploaders): New maintainer (Closes: #540926). Thanks to
Andres Salomon and Hidetaka Iwai for their work so far.
(Build-Depends): Bump debhelper to >= 7. Drop obsolete version
requirements for libgtk2.0-dev and libgnutls-dev. Replace
libxml-parser-perl with intltool. Tweak ruby-related dependencies.
Add libqdbm-dev and libestraier-dev for the search module,
libanthy-dev and libmecab-dev for the anth

[Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected or mounted automatically

2009-10-18 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gvfs
+ Some encrypted partitions which were created with older versions of
+ cryptsetup (< 1.0.7) are not detected anymore in karmic. The problem is
+ that older cryptsetup does not properly clean the superblock of the
+ partition and this might leave bogus filesystem signatures.

- An encrypted external harddrive is not mounting automatically any more
- (e.g. like in 9.04).
+ Karmic is more precise on these signatures and gets confused when
+ multiple filesystem signatures are found from single partition and
+ refuses to automatically do anything.

- It mounts after unlocking it over the terminal with "cryptsetup
- luksOpen".
-
- ProblemType: Bug
- Architecture: i386
- Date: Sat Sep 12 16:46:16 2009
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10
- HotplugNewDevices: /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1
- HotplugNewMounts:
-
- Package: gvfs 1.3.6-0ubuntu1
- ProcEnviron:
-  LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
-  SHELL=/bin/bash
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-9.29-generic
- SourcePackage: gvfs
- Symptom: storage
- Uname: Linux 2.6.31-9-generic i686
+ This might manifest itself as simply as an encrypted external harddrive
+ not mounting automatically any more (e.g. like in 9.04) or more severely
+ like full encrypted root filesystem not found after standard
+ distribution upgrade from jaunty to karmic.

[Bug 411274] Re: Pulsaeaudio hogs memory

2009-10-18 Thread Steve Langasek
Closing per submitter feedback.

In the future, it would be helpful to see the output of 'pmap' for the
process when reporting possible memory leaks. At least 64MB of this is
probably the DMA mapping for your sound device, and an unspecified
quantity of additional memory usage comes from mmapped libraries, so
it's not clear from this report if there ever was a memory leak at all.

[Bug 445810] Re: usb-creator operates on mounted filesystems, does not display confirmation dialogs, issue warnings about data loss

2009-10-18 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
I fully agree. Especially that former versions of usb-creator didn't
show all these additional entries, only a pendrive partition. Now I see
not only a pendrive /dev/sdc1 (which it did in past versions) and even
not only my external HDD /dev/sdb1-6, but also /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc. It
says nothing to a user and choosing /dev/sdb would - as I read - make
all my data from 1 TB disk incaccessible (yeah, I can try to recover
them, but...).

I actually think this is of critical importance. Partition-related
issues should be reviewed much closer than other bugs. And the final
version of Ubuntu definitely shouldn't be shipped with USB Disk Startup
Creator in a state it is now.

Besides, for most of my entries there are yellow triangles, sth like a
warning - it seems an app can actually tell apart a desired pendrive
partition (the only one not triangle-marked - see attached screenshot)
from others, it should just go one step further.

Can you explain what you mean with "sound is kaputt"? Is there no sound at all

Your PCM level seems a little bit low; perhaps you can fix it by running
"alsamixer -c 0" in a terminal.

[Bug 451931] Re: firefox doesn't open some ftp server

2009-10-18 Thread Paolo
I repeated now the test ;

the first address appeared regularly for a very short time, then all of
those address do no appear anymore in firefox, the connection stops with
an error.

I'm frankly not convinced about network problems because Opera opens
everything perfectly and immediately with no error at any moment - if a
network problem existed, Opera would show same problem, at least from
time to time.

I installed and tested chromium and Konqueror, and they show the same
problem as firefox.

In this moment I can't get working even the
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/
server in firefox and chromium (it works with epiphany..)

[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"

2009-10-18 Thread Actiu informatica
Every software has its developing process, and this includes finding bugs and
fixing the bugs.
While a software has a bug, packagers (and/or developer) need to look for
alternatives, and publish software that does what it says.
Is better to remove the "print" button from Evince.

This bug is a shame as could be any other bug in a similar situation;
imagine that Ubuntu included the Empathy IM as the default messenger
some years ago, when Empathy could have several bugs... Pidgin was a
better election.

[Bug 454482] [NEW] ICQ buddies' away-message do not appear in tooltip an info-window

2009-10-18 Thread elumbella
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

The away-messages of ICQ-buddies only appear in list, but often
truncated, because of their length. When trying to view them in the
mouse-over-tooltip, they don't appear, only the status is shown. Same
thing in the user-info-window (Right click -> Info).

The message appears for other buddies of eg. MSN or Skype.
