It seems my window manager (awesome) is using

BTW: When I downgrade to banshee 1.4, I have no crashes and also see
notifications about song changes.

[Bug 439184] [NEW] ubiquity kde frontend crashed when partition failed to format

2009-09-30 Thread Steve Beattie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

While manually partitioning and selecting to format a reiserfs partition
(to confirm that bug 431976 does affect the current kubuntu livecds),
the formatting of the partition failed. The ubiquity kde frontend then
attempted to loop back to the partitioning screen, and crashed while
doing so.

up in /var/log/installer/debug, which I've attached.)

[Bug 424864] Re: Video colors appear inverted in Karmic Alpha 5 with non-free driver.

2009-09-30 Thread James Lewis
I did not have the problem on a "Fresh install"... so it seems to be an
upgrade problem, could this bug be moved to a "totem" bug my guess is
that the version of totem in 9.10 reads the old config file and causes
this.

[Bug 438458] Re: xsplash taking 100% CPU with UNR installations

2009-09-30 Thread Cody Russell
I can reproduce on my desktop now. Somehow something is totally b0rked
if you have more than two signals. Try modifying
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default so that it passes --add-signal=foobar to
xsplash. This seems to trigger the problem.

[Bug 426185] Re: gnome-panel fails to fully load

2009-09-30 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
He's not the only one. I alos have this issue. Please see the attached
screenshot. That's what I got on first login.

If I log out and log in, all the applets are correctly loaded.

All I can say is, on my machine, the log in sequence is quite long,
especially after a reboot. So may be some too short timeouts are
involved in this bug. Timeouts that are not reached in the second warm
log in sequence.

Re: [Bug 365730] Re: pychess can't be started

2009-09-30 Thread nobodie
so if the repo flavour is broken how about we fix that instead of moving
epople to the SVN version which, as mentioned above, is beta material. I
have been waiting for almost a year for a fix to this. Yes, it could
also work to take the RPM version from fedora and run it through aliens
qand maybe get a good copy. (i run fedora as well and it runs pychess
just fine)
cheers

[Bug 439191] [NEW] gnome-panel clock appears in bold for dust themes

2009-09-30 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-themes-ubuntu

I'm not sure if this is intentional: the Karmic version of the dust
themes now shows the Applications/Places/System menu in bold (much like
the Shiki themes), but the gnome-panel clock also shows in bold, which
takes up more real estate on the screen. (Jaunty's version had neither
in bold.)

@tankdriver

Sorry, I've off the launchpad site for a while.

Anyway, yesterday's update of the following packages solved the problem:
- usplash_0.5.39_i386.deb
- libusplash0_0.5.39_i386.deb

Now, when ubuntu boots up, i have the normal sequence:
-grub starts
-usplash starts (white ubuntu-logo appears)
-uspash disappears and screen gets black shortly
-gdm screen appears, waiting for user to log in

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. I believe this is a problem

and asking them for better error control. Please report any other

[Bug 426319] Re: [R400 X700] Blender incorrect repainting and screen corruption

2009-09-30 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Dimas, we know that there are problems in Jaunty, and at this point we
are only interested in identifying problems that are not fixed in
Karmic. You may upgrade to Karmic, reinstall Karmic from a recent CD
image or test a LiveCD. If you want to test a LiveCD, Karmic beta should
be available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ tomorrow. If
you find a problem which is not exactly the same as this one, please
file it as a new bug with the ubuntu-bug command.

Giovanni, I would like you to test some updates which are not yet in Karmic.
The x-updates PPA [1] contains an updated mesa and an updated -ati driver. They
may make it into Karmic, especially if it fixes bugs like this one. Could you
first test with those?
If it isn't fixed by those, there is the even more bleeding edge xorg-edgers
PPA [2] which holds the latest development version of mesa. If it is fixed
there, we may try and find the patch that fixes this problem and include in
Karmic. If it still present with xorg-edgers, we can report it upstream, since
this is something they will want to fix there. In this case it will take longer

[Bug 292239] Re: [intrepid] Bluetooth mouse does not re-establish connection after reboot

2009-09-30 Thread Clement Bugs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 268502 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268502

This bug affects me too. I also have the ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser Mouse.
I'm trying to make it work on my ThinkPad T42 laptop on a new install of
Ubuntu 9.04. Has a fix or workaround been found since last post? Setting
the bluetooth adapter to "always visible" does not fix the problem for
me. The mouse also gets disconnected after the laptop goes into sleep
mode.

[Bug 439195] [NEW] Please update to SUNDIALS 2.4.0

2009-09-30 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

Just wondering if there were any chance that the upcoming Karmic release
could be updated to SUNDIALS 2.4.0. There have been some important bug-
fixes to SUNDIALS since 2.3.0, particularly in the root-detection
feature of IDA, but also the addition of the new IDAS solver. Both would
be very useful for me, in that I could tell users of my package to
install the standard packages from Ubuntu, instead of having to build
their own.

Many thanks for the update to 2.3.0, btw.

Cheers
JP

[Bug 423632] Re: xsplash wallpaper gradients are massively distorted at 16bpp depth

2009-09-30 Thread Michael Casadevall
This issue seems to be imx51 specific. I can't reproduce on armel+dove;
the images themselves look OK, but there is a natural video distortion.
Still, my images look correct compared to the desktop images.

[Bug 180986] Re: Hard drive will not stay in standby mode

2009-09-30 Thread Antti Kaihola
After eliminating swap my /dev/sdb still spins up about once an hour.

I don't have any of the following installed:
- hddtemp
- sensors-applet
- smartmontools

In "cat /proc/mounts" I don't see any references to /dev/hdb or UUIDs of
any of its partitions.

I tried monitoring disk access and got no indication of any process accessing
/dev/sdb* when the disk spun up or at any other time. I used this script to
monitor:
echo 1 >/proc/sys/vm/block_dump
while ( ! dmesg -c|grep sdb ); do sleep 1; done
echo 0 >/proc/sys/vm/block_dump

Is there any way I could "freeze" the kernel after issuing the hdparm
-S/y/Y command so that I can be sure neither the kernel nor any process
is able to access the disk? That way I could make sure it's not the disk
itself or the controller which decides to spin up the disk.

[Bug 427225] Re: NFSv3 fails to mount over TCP and NAT

2009-09-30 Thread shadzik
Most likely the problem shows up because RPC binds to ports under 1024
while mounting nfs. This fails when the NFS server has unprivildged
ports denied. Nfs shoud therefore be patched to not to bind to ports
under the 1024 mark.

[Bug 439115] Re: totem hangs when it finishes playing a file

2009-09-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
