[Bug 66637] Hibernation fails, system freezes after waking up from sleep
Ok, I tested it - hibernation still doesn't work, sleep works but after waking up the system hangs (that also happened before my changes to fstab and resume). My laptop is HP nx6325 EY349EA. [Bug 64363] Re: Package new debian release
0.2 package is slighty modified in respect of the debian package.. Mainly is usplash support the thing that is missing. Perhaps upstream they have released version 0.5, so it's worthless to implement usplash support on a 0.3 (and not official) version. Debian hasn't packaged it yet, perhaps because they are on freeze for the release of edgy. Have you planned to package it? [Bug 19101] Re: nautilus's clever anti-hax0r detection is really dumb
Does anyone have a work-around handy, for disabling this entire "security" "feature"? In my web searches, I find nothing about how to turn it off. What I do see, are instances of the same error message reported in numerous forums. The problem is normally misinterpreted by the local geeks and gurus in these forums, as an application level problem or (most commonly), a missing filesystem permission on an executable file. The real bug looks and sounds too much like deliberate sabotage to seem possible. I certainly don't need it, it's nothing but an annoyance to anyone who pays attention to where the files on his or her system came from. This "feature" adds nothing but extra time and motion to the simplest and most frequently used task on the desktop. I am seriously thinking about the time/effort tradeoff in switching from Gnome to KDE on account of it. Clueless newbies also don't need it, unless someone thinks it's a good idea to protect them from hypothetical hostile content by disabling the only file-open method they know about. [Bug 77138] gtkdoc-fixxref broken by compressed documentation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gtk-doc-tools One of the primary function of gtkdoc-fixxref is to point references to standard GLib, Gtk+, etc. symbols (types, functions, macros, etc.) in generated documentation to the system documentation if present. In other words, if another library documentation references GtkWidget, it is changed to hyperlink to GtkWidget description in Gtk+ documentation. This does not work at all on Ubuntu: all cross-library hyperlinks are missing if some documentation is rebuilt there. The reason is that gtkdoc-fixxref looks for index.sgml (line 121) which is of course not there because Debian tends to compress random files in /usr/share/doc, so only index.sgml.gz is present, which is first not looked for and second it would have to be decompressed (the cross- linking information is retrieved from it). But instead of tweaking gtk-doc-tools, I would dare to suggest to just stop compressing index.sgml in affected packages libglib2.0-doc, libatk1.0-doc, libpango1.0-doc, libgtk2.0-doc, libgtkglext1-doc, etc. ** Affects: gtk-doc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- gtkdoc-fixxref broken by compressed documentation https://launchpad.net/bugs/77138 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77141] ACPI/APM does not control fan properly
Public bug reported: I have wrestled with this for some time and I think I know WHY this happens. 1: This happens on ALL Debian based kernel systems, not just Ubuntu based ones Symptom: Compaq Armada ( possible HP too ) 1700 series systems overheat and shut down during installation and operation of Debian/Kubuntu/Knoppix/etc systems. You get maybe 1-2 hours max before thermal shutdown. 2: Testing: Repeatable. EVERY Compaq Armada show this behavior ( I have 3 Armada 1750s ) 3: I have examined the BIOS and have found that the BIOS has an INTERNAL bug that INVERTS the signal to the internal fan in the Armada. When the ACPI/APM tells the fan to turn ON, it actually turns the fan OFF. This has been verified by toggling the ON and OFF states using internal code. 4: MICROSOFT wrote the internal code for Compaq and KNOWS about this condition; that is why ALL versions of M$ software ( MS-DOS and Windows ) turns the fan on properly. ( this is being sent from an Armada 1750 using W2000, the fan just turned on and STAYS on the right amount of time ) 5: ACPI/APM in Debian TRIES to reduce the temperature. The fan comes on MOMENTARILY, then is crowbarred off by the bios. This symptom is repeatable on all systems under Debian software bases. I know WHY, but I do HARDWARE, I don't ( can't easily ) do Software. My background is in Failure Analysis, hence my ability to diagnose problems. I can't remember if or when I reported this to Debian, but I did this bit of research some time ago on my FIRST Armada 1750 when the problem came up in Debian. The first Distro to fix this issue will resolve a problem that has vexed laptop owners for years. They will own the WORLD of laptops that have this bit of M$ code in their BIOS. You now know WHY. P.S. I just tried this with FIVE different Debian based Distros. [Bug 56246] Re: kacpid eat 99% CPU after resuming from hibernate
I have the same problem (kacpid consuming near 99% CPU) in my HP laptop (Edubuntu "Feisty") after resuming from hibernate. The hibernation works fine in the same computer with Ubuntu 6.10 but it breaks after installing Feisty. The problem occurs with kernel 2.6.19 and 2.6.20 too, and it's clearly related to the thermal/fan control (ACPI). Downgrading the package acpi-support from 0.91 to 0.90 (edgy), my systems works fine again. Notice that this change reverts all ACPI management in feisty to edgy status, because currently, acpi package version is 0.09-1 in feisty, the same version number as in edgy. -- kacpid-work eat 99% CPU after resuming from hibernate https://launchpad.net/bugs/56246 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 56246] Re: kacpid-work eat 99% CPU after resuming from hibernate

[Bug 77144] After network upgrade, Edgy Eft has an infinite login loop
Public bug reported: This bug is repeatable. I installed Edgy Eft from the REGULAR Distro CD, not the LIVE CD. It worked fine. Logins with no problem, I can add users, etc. I installed the Network Upgrades after configuring the system. After downloading 74 packages, I rebooted the system. ( I noticed a CORE change in the download ) The system went into an infinite login loop in KDE. Okay, so I went into recovery mode ( system allowed logins ) and changed from kdm to gdm ( I used apt-get to retrieve it ) and rebooted. The SAME thing happened under GDM! System: Compaq Armada 1750 190Mb ram, 333Mhz PII, 4Mb ATI Rage Pro LT video. System passed diags and ran W2000 before the Edgy Eft install. I allowed the system to cool down ( see ACPI/APM bug report ) between installs. I tried TWO installs. Same thing each time. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- After network upgrade, Edgy Eft has an infinite login loop https://launchpad.net/bugs/77144 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77145] Teach xserver-xorg configuration about evdev
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg A wish for configuring xorg. Have an option to install mouse as evdev. This option would install the appropriate udev event script for the mouse as well. Perhaps also a seperate utillity to setup the additional buttons as well after xorg is configured. This annoyance has bugged me lately as I have switched video cards and monitors on my machine. Running deb-reconfigure xserver-xorg modifies xorg.conf removing my evdev driven mouse. Each time I have had to manually reedit my xorg.conf. The upstream bug suggests a confirmation dialog for this mode, as well as what you said. [Bug 69231] Re: Keyboard shortcut ctrl-pageup stopped working
Interesting thing is that when you go to configure shortcuts, konsole warns you about using ctrl+anything for shortcuts and tells you about the ones you have set. Of course, you never get this message when it's set like that by default. ctrl+pageup/down are actually set to switch tabs in konqueror as well (on Feisty) so it is the same in other apps in KDE. However, in both it is the alternate shortcut for switching tabs. I don't know how wise it is to take shortcuts used by console programs for kde/konsole by default, especially when there's already another short cut for that function (shift + right/left). -- Keyboard shortcut ctrl-pageup stopped working https://launchpad.net/bugs/69231 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77152] Can't upload files
Public bug reported: I'm using ndiswrapper for my realtek 818x card, the native linux module is r818x and works fine (except for some quirks with wifi security). Since I'm using ndiswrapper I can't upload files (I can send any kind of info however) to any site (bugzilla, malone, flickr, etc). I can send files via gaim file transfer however. Don't know if the bug is in ndiswrapper but is my closest responsable for the problem. ** Affects: ndiswrapper (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Can't upload files https://launchpad.net/bugs/77152 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
