[Bug 41093] Re: Firefox leaks memory if the clipboard contains 500001 bytes or more

2006-10-08 Thread Daniel Robitaille
According to the Ubuntu Firefox changelogs this was fixed in May 2006.
According to upstream bug report, patches for this were committed to the
1.8 trunk in April 2006. So I'll change the status of this bug report
from "Fix commited" to "Fix released".

[Bug 64636] Re: incorrect man page for 'echo'

2006-10-08 Thread PaulSchulz
Boris,
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu bugs, but rather than being a bug, as
mentioned, this behavour is caused by the interaction between the shell that
you are using (the ubuntu default is bash) and the /bin/echo command.

Regards,
Paul

[Bug 64638] Edgy g-s-t must be downgraded to 2.14

[Bug 39397] Re: System Slows To Almost A Stop

2006-10-08 Thread Daniel Robitaille
I can confirm the same behaviour at www.mediaresearch.org using Firefox
2 in Edgy Beta. The news ticker on the right hand side, when it is
scrolling, brings the CPU to a load over 90%. Interestingly I get the
same behaviour using Firefox 2.0rc2 downloaded from directly
mozilla.org, so both builts seem to react the same way for me.

2006-10-08 Thread Ante Karamatić
Please attach your /etc/wifi-radar.conf. I just noticed that your logs
don't show eth1 (I guess eth0 is wired interface). syslog would be nice
also, when wifi-radar fails to connect to AP. This:

down: error fetching interface information: Device not found
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable

looks like problems with driver or configuration.

It only happens when I connect from the mvp, doing a local
connection to vlc -I telnet doesn't crash it.

[Bug 64641] xine does not use HTTP proxy for MMS MRLs

2006-10-08 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Public bug reported:

When accessing a MMS MRL, xine tries first to connect to server on TCP
port 1750. If that fails, it falls back to HTTP, but without using the
proxy given in the configuration file. This makes it impossible to
access these MRLs if TCP port 80 has been blocked for outgoing traffic.

[Bug 64575] Re: Wrong character in memo category after palm sync

2006-10-08 Thread Daniel Holbach
Thanks for your bug report. Which version of Ubuntu and gnome-pilot do
you use? If you use Edgy, you might want to consider setting
PILOT_CHARSET- the NEWS file mentions this:

- Support for international character sets, with pilot-link 0.12.x. Users
should set the PILOT_CHARSET to an appropriate value (i.e. one
  recognised by iconv).

Okay. Sorry I misread your setting and didn't see you are using
scim-pinyin's im-switch setting.

But on my dapper system the only difference between the im-switch
setting of scim and scim-pinyin is that scim-pinyin's setting tries to
start skim instead of scim when skim is installed. Does that mean
scim-qtimm doesn't work with scim at all? I can use scim's im-switch
setting to input through scim in KDE just fine. Of course it may be
using XIM and not scim-qtimm at all - I wouldn't know.

Pascal, if you follow Zhengpeng's suggestion, you need to install
scim-pinyin in step 1, too. You may also need to install skim (I am not
sure).

[Bug 64051] Re: wifi-radar daemon (-d) ends

2006-10-08 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Yes, eth0 is wired interface.
I just found that there is an paramater called "interface" in wifi-radar.conf,
I set it to eth1 and tried wifi-radar -d, and same thing it also ends, the only
difference is that it doesn't give any messages about lo,sit0,eth0 interfaces
being not wireless interfaces. ie. setting that parameter makes wifi-radar not
try to probe other interfaces for wireless extensions.

[Bug 35760] Only 1 konsole session with transparency

2006-10-08 Thread Ming Hua
Hi, I need some more help to reproduce this bug.

I am now testing in a up-to-date dapper environment, using en_US locale.
So far scim-qtimm doesn't make any difference, nor any input method
settings I mentioned above.

However I don't quite understand what does the "open another session" in
the bug description mean. The Sessions menu doesn't have anything like
"new session". I can choose Session -> New Shell (or use the create tab
icon in the left botton corner), which always gives me a new transparent
tab; I can also choose Session -> New Linux Console, which always gives
me a black, non-transparent tab. If this bug is about the "New Shell"
menu, then I can't reproduce this bug yet.

My dapper system is an Ubuntu system with KDE, upgraded many times,
though. Maybe a fresh Kubuntu install is needed to reproduce.

[Bug 64361] Re: Word erase

2006-10-08 Thread Jeremy Teale
First, thank you for reporting this.
In line 326 of ed.defns.c in the tcsh source package is:
F_KILLREGION, /* ^W */
Ctrl + W is set to kill-region for the emacs mode, which is the default mode.
In VI mode, it is set to F_DELWORDPREV. I think this is the source of the
confusion.
kill-region "cuts" everything from the beginning of the line to the cursor,
while Ctrl + U just does the whole line. Such is the default behavior.
You can set your version shell variable to include "vi" to get back the
behavior I *think* you're used to.
I'll mark this as rejected, please reopen if you feel this to be incorrect.

wasn't aware of the group named "admin". Check your proposal out, and
found that it did the trick.

It would too have been nice, if the error in the notice box could have
stated something like "Missing privileges." instead of "Conversation
with su failed." - at least it fooled me, but maybe i'm the only one!.

Anyway i can't help thinking that this "feature" could become a security
risk over time, as it prevent normal users from running the updates
manager when a update notification is shown. Could it be possible to
make this work to a normal user ?

At least but not last, sorry for posting under "oem-config", marked the
bug as "I don't know" in the first place, but that seemed to be
overruled by launchpad. Tried to change that too by editing the bug, but
it wasn't possible either

[Bug 59690] Re: [network-admin] Static IP configuration doesn't adds the default route to the gateway

2006-10-08 Thread Stéphane Démurget
I also got the issue on my edgy installation and now the problem seems
to be fixed but introduced a regression. If I only change the gateway on
my wireless connection (eth1) to 192.168.0.200, it is correctly changed
in my /etc/network/interfaces file, but I've got no more WiFi
connectivity because two fields are overwritten. I get :

wireless-essid 192.168.0.200
wireless-key s:1

I'm used to have a correct network name "ubuntu" and an hexa key.

[Bug 44490] Re: Cannot move to other workspace / desktop when processing

2006-10-08 Thread damidalla
IMHO, it can be considered as a bug.
The only way to move two connected windows (not only with update-manager, but
also with synaptic) is to mark the active one as 'always in the visible work
area', change desk, then mark the visible window as 'only in this work area' -
don't know if the real English words are like that, I use Ubuntu with Italian
l10n).

[Bug 64651] kde logouts when lid is closed in edgy

2006-10-08 Thread EnolaGay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

If I close lid of my Laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200 with Geforce 440 Go) in
KDE I always have to completly relogin after open it again. If I
shutdown acpi-support with /etc/init.d/acpi-support stop only the
screensaver is started but I am still loged in which is no problem. The
lid close option in Power Manager is disabled and wouldn't work because
of the logout bug.

[Bug 58418] Re: Creative ViBRA16X - CT4170 Not activated on new install

2006-10-08 Thread Krzysztof Lichota
I have managed to solve the problem.

Steps:
1. Download isapnptools package from
http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/breezy/base/isapnptools . This is version for
breezy, but it works in Dapper. There is no version for Dapper.
2. Install it using dpkg -i path-to-downloaded file .
3. Create and edit file /etc/isapnp.conf and put the following contents in it:
(READPORT 0x0273)
(ISOLATE PRESERVE)
(IDENTIFY *)
(VERBOSITY 2)
(CONFLICT (IO FATAL)(IRQ FATAL)(DMA FATAL)(MEM FATAL)) # or WARNING

(CONFIGURE CTL00f4/-1 (LD 0
(INT 0 (IRQ 5 (MODE +E)))
(DMA 0 (CHANNEL 0))
(DMA 1 (CHANNEL 1))
(IO 0 (SIZE 16) (BASE 0x0240))
(IO 1 (SIZE 2) (BASE 0x0300))
(IO 2 (SIZE 4) (BASE 0x0388))
 (NAME "CTL00f4/-1[0]{Audio }")
(ACT Y)
))

(WAITFORKEY)
4. Run "isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf". If it reports errors, you must change
configuration above (it is suited to my setup). Try "pnpdump -c" and put its
output in /etc/isapnp.conf file. If it does not help, you must find correct
configuration manually, for example change port to 0x220. For full list of
possible values run pnpdump. Note that if you change the configuration, you
must change options for modprobe below.
5. Create and edit file /etc/modprobe.d/sbvibra and put the following options
in it:
alias snd-card-0 snd_sb16
options snd_sb16 port=0x240 irq=5 dma8=0 dma16=1 isapnp=0
6. Run "update-modules"
7. Run "modprobe snd-card-0". If it works OK (check if "ls -l /dev/dsp" shows
that file is present), perform the steps below to make setup permanent:
8. Append following line to /etc/modules:
snd-card-0
8. Go to system configuration (in GUI) and choose "Services". Enable "isapnp"
service and tick option to start it at boot.
