Don't use an 'catch all' account!

Seems you've nothing else to do!

because there is no delivery failure. We are a school, so parents get kind of

I use sendmail. All those SPAM got a message like:
 - 553 5.7.1 Rejected: 222.64.191.166 locally listed in rbl
 - rejecting commands from [163.23.54.1] [163.23.54.1] due to pre-greeting
traffic.

In a week it accumulates THOUSANDS of messages.

Yeah. Keeping an admin happy!
Person: I'm having a problem...
Admin: Sorry I'm busy fighting SPAM... No time for you!

No squirrelmail problem. Ask your admin to solve the problem!

[SM-USERS] Help with mailbox sort

2005-12-29 Thread squirrelmail
Hi everyone, I am not sure if this is possible but I would like to porovide
users with the following folder structure

Inbox
Junk E-mail (I create this with the autosubscribe plugin - thanks to Tomas )
Drafts
Sent Messages
Deleted Items

Then skip a few spaces and show the folders that a user created themselves.

Incidentally I have SM installed on W2k with PHP and hmailserver.

I have searched the lists and googled my question and I came up with usort
and sortSpecialMbx in imap_mailbox but I cannot find any information about
how to use this for displaying the folder list in teh fashion I desire.
Users find it confusing for the deleted items to be listed first so they
have asked for a similar structure to their free web based accounts like
hotmail/yahoo.

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

regards,

Scott

[SM-USERS] Changing date display in inbox

2006-01-02 Thread squirrelmail
Hi everyone, I am using SM 1.4.5 on a w2k box with hmailserver and it is
running very well thanks to the wonderful help I have received from you
folks so far. I am still in the tuning phase though and I'm trying to
straighten out the inbox date display for users. The inbox real estate is
very precious and I would like to limit the date display to only the first 3
letters of the month and the 2 digit date so I can allow a longer subject
line.

E.g. Jan 2 instead of Jan 2 2006 or Thu 9:05 PM.

So far changing the options has yielded partial results but I would really
like to have it only display the 3 letters of the month and the actual day
the email was received.

I traced the mailbox display function to printmessageinfo in
functions/mailbox_display.php and found the date case where it grabs the
emails $msg['DATE_STRING'] but I am not familiar with how to manipulate the
date_string to make it into the date format I want. If someone could point
me in the right direction of possibly a tutorial on it or if it is a quick
change and someone can provide the code, I would greatly appreciate the
help.

Regards,

Scott

[SM-USERS] Imap server speed help

2006-01-13 Thread squirrelmail
Hi everyone, I have hmailserver/SM 1.4.5 installed on a windows 2000 AS box
with dual Pentium 4 Xeon 3gig processors, 6 Gigs of ram, and an 80 gig 10K
raid volume. Everything works without errors but I am finding that the
system is running very slow with log in times taking as long as a minute
even with users having a few emails and 1 or two added folders. The largest
user has 250 emails, 4 additional folders, and his log-in/inbox crawls. I
am trying to get a handle on what I can do to speed up the system short of
throwing hundreds of servers as load balanced Imap/smtp servers.

I am hoping that some current users can shed light on how they manage to
support thousands even hundreds of thousands of users. Whether they have
separate Imap/smtp servers and what they are using. I believe SM is a
superb project and having this knowledge will help many individuals finding
themselves in my position.

Regards,

Scott

[SM-USERS] Please help with a solution for untitled attachments

2006-01-26 Thread squirrelmail
Hi everyone, I am dealing with a major issues that I desperately need some
help with.

1) untitled attachements. When a user receives an email in html, the text
version appears as an attachment and vice versa. I am trying to suppress
this function or change it to a link rather than an atachment because
Windows XP seems to break some functionality by opening an attachement in
the current window and when a user hits the back button they get all types
of errors. So I want to suppress the text/html alternate file but I cannot
find any reference to it in the Mime.php formatattachments function.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

[SM-USERS] Squirrelmail with Cyrus murder help

2006-03-06 Thread squirrelmail
Hi everyone, I am in the process of switching from a
squirrelmail/hmailserver (windows based) server to a windows web server with
Linux 9.0 /cyrus as the backend. I am trying to set up a murder backend
with the windows based web server and I am hoping one of the list users who
is using murder successfully can give me a little guidance. I have the
mupdate server configured along with one backend and one frontend. My
Squirrelmail configtest script successfully finds my frontend and my
immediate question would be how do I set up multiple frontends with
squirrelmail. Right now I am trying to set up 1 configuration with 1
mupdate, 4 frontends and 7 backends. Each server has its own IP so I would
have 4 front end IPs to have squirrelmail connect with and I am not sure how
to set up squirrelmail with multiple imap /smtp servers so any help in that
direction is greatly appreciated. For that matter if any of the Murder
users have any tips for avoiding any pitfalls or common mistakes, I would
really appreciate the help.

[SM-USERS] Cyrus murder front end authentication help

2006-03-17 Thread squirrelmail
Hi everyone, I am trying to migrate to a cyrus murder setup and I currently
have the mupdate master configured and accepting connections as well as the
backend server configured. I installed
Mysql/sasl/Cyrus-imapd/DB4/openssl/postfix following the instructions on
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Postfix-Cyrus-Web-cyradm-HOWTO/install.html#BERKEL
EY-DB.

I connected SM 1.4.5 directly to the backend to ensure I could touch the
users account and indeed everything works just fine. I can create folders,
delete folders, etc directly to the back end.

But when I connect SM to the frontend I get logged in but it does not
display any folders. When I move around the site I get
ERROR : Could not complete request.
Query: SELECT "INBOX"
Reason Given: Server(s) unavailable to complete operation

I logged into the master machine and looked at the auth.log/imapd.log and I
see the frontend and backend connecting and updating correctly. I then
logged into the backend auth.log and imap.log and I do not see the frontend
making any type of connection when I have the frontend hooked to SM. When I
have the backend hooked to SM I see authentications go through. My
feeling is that either the frontend is trying to look locally for the
mailbox using the local mysql database for authentication (and the result is
being lgged in but no folders displaying) or it is not finding the backend
server to pass through the info and in turn is using the local mysql
database to authenticate the user adn displying what info there is for the
user which is none hence no folders. I listed my imapd.conf files for the
frontend and backend below for anyone who has experience with murder setups
and would be kind enough to give me some assitance.

Thanks in advance for your help

[SM-USERS] How to force UTF-8 charset for all languages

2007-10-01 Thread squirrelmail
Hello all,

I there a way in squirrelmail to force the UTF-8 charset
for all interface languages (or for e.g. only de_DE).

I need to use UTF-8 for the user-interface (HTML output/input)
and for the e-mails encoding (no latin1 anymore).

There are major problems for users with e.g. a german interface
which want to send e-mail in russian or greek.

Regards valli

PS: Why is UTF-8 not the default charset for all languages?
Is the '$default_charset' setting only usefull together with en_US?

I've created some backgrounding in squirrelmail. See:
http://nic.nb.nu/images/squirrel.png

Took me 3 hours to figure out how to implement this in sm 1.4.0, but afterall
it was very easy to implement. (Extra code in functions/html.php and changing
some html_tag's in the source)

This way you can change almost every background in squirrelmail bij changing
it in the themes layout.

Settings for the above image is:

$bgimage['FrameLeft']['PATH'] = '../images/backgrounds/tiles/paper.png'; #
Left frame background
$bgimage['FrameRight']['PATH'] =
'../images/backgrounds/wallpapers/Water01.jpg'; # Right frame background
$bgimage['TableDefault']['PATH'] = '';
$bgimage['TableDefaultOption']['PATH'] =
'../images/backgrounds/tiles/Marble01.jpg'; # Standard table option
$bgimage['TableOption1']['PATH'] = '../images/backgrounds/tiles/Marble01.jpg';
$bgimage['TableOption2']['PATH'] = '../images/backgrounds/tiles/Marble01.jpg';

RE: [SM-USERS] problems sending squirrel email via outlook

2003-10-15 Thread squirrelmail
Title: RE: [SM-USERS] problems sending squirrel email via outlook

Ms. Hwang,

I think you'll need to contact your helpdesk at Yale for this question.  SquirrelMail is an email "program" like Outlook.  The problem you are describing is something with your configuration with Outlook connecting to your mail server (not SquirrelMail).  The list you have emailed is more for Squirrelmail users and admin's using Squirrelmail.  You need help with Outlook.

I CC'ed [EMAIL PROTECTED] in this email.  But, I suggest you contact them directly.

Subject: [SM-USERS] problems sending squirrel email via outlook

Hi,

I don't have any problems downloading my squirrel email into Outlook
Express6 but I am having a lot of trouble sending email from my squirrel
account using Outlook.  I get the following error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes
for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'chef.its.yale.edu', Server: 'chef.its.yale.edu',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.

My Account Setup is as follows:

Server Information:
Incoming mail server is a POP3 server
Incoming mail (POP3): chef.its.yale.edu
Outgoing mail (SMTP): chef.its.yale.edu

Server Port Numbers
Outgoing mail (SMTP): 25
Incoming mail (POP3): 995, This server requires a secure connection SSL
Server Timeout: 1 minute 30 seconds

I don't know what's wrong and why the server keeps on timing out.  Your
immediate attention to this matter would be tremendously appreciated.  I
can be contacted by phone at 909-982-6799 or by email at

Nancy,

SquirrelMail is a way to get email, like Outlook and Outlook Express. If you
need information on how to configure your Outlook for your Internet provider's
mail server, I suggest calling them.

This mail list is for users of SquirrelMail.

Suggestion? Just use Squirrelmail if your ISP provides it and to heck with
Outlook. But, if you really want to use Outlook, call your ISP and I am sure
someone there can easily get you the information you need.

Re: [SM-USERS] How to make /webmail link work ???

2003-11-18 Thread squirrelmail

Tom,

I don't seem to have any links to webmail. I did a locate on webmail and got nothing. This is most confusing.

Is there an installation guide? I know I did everything exactly as I was instructed from some sort of guide, but again, having done this over a year ago, I cannot remember what/how I did it.

[SM-USERS] (no subject)

2003-12-10 Thread squirrelmail
Hello,

I have a situation that I would like clarified. I have several companies that have
email hosted through us. We run
sendmail and spamassassin and squirrelmail. The trouble is (and this is no joke)
there are two "anthony" s, two "Dan"
s and three "Valerie" s. All at different companies. They all want their name as
their login. They all feel that they should
be able to just use their first names, since there is no one AT THEIR COMPANY who has
the same name.

So. Multiple Unix user accounts with the same name? NOPE.

Then here is my problem. Squirrelmail puts mail in /hom/_/mail, and points to the
/home/_ for other functions,
I suspect. Using that logic, I'm headed for disaster if I allow multiple Anthony
users.

I have the same problem with Spamassassin. And of course sendmail.

Realizing that this is a Squirrelmail list, I thought I'd just ask if anyone has a
similar need and how they circumvented the
hard-coded /home/_ structures? I know that there is a plug-in for Squirrelmail
that allows virtual logins, but I haven't
had the time to play with it and see if it separates out the directory structure.

This is maddening!

Mairhtin O'Feannag

Please can you CC my email address on this?

thank you

[SM-USERS] upgradingn from 1.2 to 1.4 ????

2003-12-10 Thread squirrelmail
Hello,

I'd like to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.4 in order to use some of the functions in various
plugins that look really, really cool.

The trouble I have is (first that I'm too cautious ...) the doc talks about
intallations, but not upgrades. Is it safe just
to un-tar everything and move them to the respective directories? should I remove the
old version first? If I install over the
current directories, will user's customizations be lost?

Like I say, I'm very cautious, since this is a true production environment, and I'm
loathe to mess anyone up, since I'll be
doing this late at night and I can ASSURE you they will call at 6:00am if there is a
problem!! (no sympathy requested,
merely trying to avoid being crancky when they call).

I appreciate any help very much.

If I just install to a new directory, will it try to do things to my users' home directories? Like add/alter some user preferences? Or directory structures? Just want to know in advance so I can plan.

[SM-USERS] Email rejected by Spamhaus

2003-12-31 Thread SquirrelMail
This is the strangest thing. If I use SquirrelMail to send
an email to my mother, I get it returned saying

<[edited [EMAIL PROTECTED]>: host nycmx03.mgw.rr.com[24.29.102.163] said:
553 5.3.0 Mail from 66.152.97.230 rejected, see
http://spamhaus.org/sbl (in reply to MAIL FROM command)

Spamhaus apparently has powweb (my ISP) black listed. Oddly enough, if I
use powweb's web mail (which is not so great) everything works fine.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

John

[SM-USERS] Mail server address appended ??????

2004-01-03 Thread squirrelmail
Hello,

I am having the following problem : No matter how I futz with it, everything sent
from my machine via Squirrelmail has the
user's name appended to the mail server's name, not their domain. Do I need the
multiple domain plugin?

I have 5 or six domains that I maintain the mail for. They all have virtualdomains
defined in my Sendmail configuration
(which version is 8.12.5-7, by the way).

So : I maintain a server named mail.techsolutionsgroupllc.com, and have virtual
domains of imadethis.com, avafg.com,
etc., but when any user logs on to Squirrelmail, the From address is
"user"@mail.techsolutionsgroupllc.com .

I need to fix this FAST!

Hello,

Is it possible to redirect the RPM installation to a directory other than
/usr/share/squirrelmail ?

I'd like to install the latest version and then install some plugins, but I don't want

Sorry if this sounds like a newbie question, but at RPM, I *AM* a bit of a newbie. :)

[SM-USERS] error with new version

2004-01-03 Thread squirrelmail
Hello,

I am trying to use the new version (1.4.2, I believe) and am getting the following
error when I try to login (yes, I figured out
how to have multiple versions running ... it just took me sitting and thinking for a
while.)

Error opening ../data/default_pref
Could not create initial preference file!
../data/ should be writable by user apache
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

I'm not really certain WHO is trying this, or what directory (I know, it's a DATA
directory ) it is trying to do this in,
since I believe these are relative directories. I am running from
/usr/share/webmailtest/ yada yada yada.

HELP! :) (I'm always in a bind when I contribute to this list).

[SM-USERS] Continuing Folder problems :(

2004-01-07 Thread squirrelmail

OK,

I did the things suggested, and they worked for those folk who I had troubles with. *BUT* :)

Now, if I log on as a user who I had not tested (i.e. I logged on as "me", kevin, anthony and had those extra things show up...) there is only the INBOX folder. No sent, trash, drafts etc. *scratching head*.

Is there a help of some sort for the config? I'm being obtuse and it feels awfull to keep coming here and asking basic questions. *cry*.

I'll be setting all of this up on our new production server soon, so I need to iron out the kinks pretty soon. *heavy sigh*

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

This looks like a misconfiguration. Run config/conf.pl and make sure

your IMAP settings are correct. I'm assuming you're using Courier-IMAP,

so select D, then type in courier. Then login. You can then go to the

Folders page, and remove the extra folders that shouldn't be there.

there are no errors in either squirrelmail's error log, or the server's
error log. i am experiencing the same problem on two different
installations:
1. solaris 9, apache 1.3.31, php 4.3.6
2. solaris 9, apache 1.2.29, php 4.3.6
i'm at my wit's end. with no errors of any kind, i've nothing to work
from in finding the cause, but i do have customers who are becoming
increasingly agitated.

hate to have to use a cvs version, but if that's my only recourse, i
guess i'll have to.

yup, noticed that after i downloaded it. not even a whole file - just one

that is of course true, and accidents do happen.
however - this is a *very* serious error. this isn't a trivial, minor

i did the classic 'bad' upgrade - i upgraded about five different things
all at once, to save disruption for customers, and thus didn't know if
apache, php, or my newly compiled compiler were responsible for httpd
processes jumping from a typical 40mb to 900mb.

the much bigger problem is that this is a known, reproducible bug, with
dramatic impact - but the squirrelmail site is still distributing this
faulty src package.

that's not right. 1.4.3 shoudl be either pulled immediately, or the two
lines of bad code fixed and 1.4.3a (or whatever) released immediately. it
doesn't make sense to keep compounding problems for people by distributing
a clearly broken src package.

wouldn't you agree?

[SM-USERS] Always showing the purge link

2004-06-30 Thread squirrelmail
Is there a way to always show the purge link next to the trash?
I frequently log-in just long enough to delete e-mail on the server and to
do so, since I haven't been logged in long enough I either have to wait to
refresh, or hit the refresh button.
Yes I realize the refresh button isn't hard to hit, but it does check 8
pop accounts, which slows it down and adds un-needed traffic to my ISPs.
(Gotta love the fetch mail plug-in)
If it matters I'm running 1.5.0

Thank you.

[SM-USERS] Blank login page: Failed to initialize session module

2005-02-07 Thread squirrelmail
Hello,
I'm running SquirrelMail 1.4.3a on an hardened Linux with PHP 4.2.3 on
Apache 1.3.27.
I made no change to my Apache or PHP configuration recently, and
everything was working well for about one year.

Since yesterday, no user can log into SquirrelMail. The login.php
returns nothing but a blank page. I can still access other PHP scripts
on the server and access my mail by using an imap client. I restarted
httpd and imapd just to be sure. No change. I tried to update to 1.4.4.
No change. I searched the archives and google but found nothing usefull
for me.

Here is what I get in my php_error.log:
PHP Fatal error: Failed to initialize session module in
/home/httpd/ssl.x.net-443/html/webmail/functions/global.php on line

Re: [SM-USERS] Blank login page: Failed to initialize session module

2005-02-07 Thread squirrelmail
Checked: the path and permissions are correct. LIDS is also correctly
configured.

Since yesterday, no user can log into SquirrelMail. The login.php
returns nothing but a blank page.
Here is what I get in my php_error.log:
PHP Fatal error: Failed to initialize session module in
/home/httpd/ssl.x.net-443/html/webmail/functions/global.php on
line 295
PHP Warning: Failed to write session data (user). Please verify that
the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/run/php) in
Unknown on line 0
so why not read and follow the error message? check session.save_path
and check the permissions of that directory if it is correct. also
make sure SELinux is configured to correctly allow access to that dir
if you are using it.

Re: [SM-USERS] Blank login page: Failed to initialize session module

2005-02-07 Thread squirrelmail
Thank you Jonathan,
I have set up session.save_handler to files, and now I can access the
login page.

However, I now have another issue: "You must be logged in to access
this page."
As adviced by the FAQ and list archive, I double-checked the cookies
parameters, but there's no problem on this side (cookies are accepted
by my browser). The user is valid, and I can log in using another imap
client. Actually, it seems to connect and disconnect just after, as
seen in mail.log:

simap: imap service init from 127.0.0.1
simap: Login user=x host=localhost [127.0.0.1]
simap: Logout user=x host=localhost [127.0.0.1]
Paul missed it... where you have "user" it should read "files". Your
session.save_handler is set to "user" when SquirrelMail requires
"files".
Check in your php.ini file, and make sure it is set to files, or use an
apache configuration to change it so that the SquirrelMail directory is
using files.

Check the session settings, also check safe_mode, and open_basedir.
Also
ensure that /var/run/php is writeable by the user running apache.
I got it. A .htaccess moved in the the squirrelmail directory by
mistake (hum... formely dedicated to drupal) was overwriting the

[SM-USERS] Blank pages / no response

2010-01-14 Thread squirrelmail

Hi,

Currently running CentOS5.2, with Squirrelmail 1.4.17, php 5.1.6 Our
users normally check email through IMAP. We only use squirrelmail for
users when they have no local mail client, or to set the out of
office settings or other associated account data.

We are using the postfixadmin plugin for users to be able to set out
office. I have a user that when she selects Options > Out of Office,
she gets a blank page.

Further investigation shows
I can reproduce the problem by importing the database and her mail
into a dev environment
Her "Compose" option also returns blank page (aha!)
That deleting all of her messages causes both Compose and Out of
Office to correct.

Which tells me that it's either a "bad" message in there somewhere of
her 3200 messages, or maybe a timing issue somewhere?

Thanks for any insights you might have.

Rick

As my imap server supports threading and sort, it looks like fixing

$allow_thread_sort= TRUE;
$allow_server_sort= TRUE;

resolves the problem(s)

thank you - good to know.

$allow_thread_sort= TRUE;
$allow_server_sort= FALSE;

however fixes it (I didn't need to set them both to TRUE, just
thread_sort, only change I made)

$allow_thread_sort= FALSE;
$allow_server_sort= TRUE;
does not fix it.

Well it fixed with the change above. Odd to me as well, but glad it's fixed.

[SM-USERS] Phantom folder totals

2005-05-09 Thread Mike Squirrelmail
I use SquirrelMail 1.4.4 for remote access to my mail (Courier) and
Outlook XP when at home.
In SquirrelMail folder options I have selected to show both unseen and
total numbers.

When I have deleted mails via Outlook, the next time I go into
SquirrelMail the "total" number for that folder is not zero, but the
number of emails deleted via outlook.
This figure remains until I view the folder in question and then click on
"Check Mail".

Its not a big problem, but I would like to at least understand what causes
this.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Re: [SM-USERS] Phantom folder totals

2005-05-10 Thread Mike Squirrelmail
Thanks for your responses.
I have had a look in Outlook, and once you have deleted messages there is
a "purge deleted emails" option in the menus.
Unfortunately I cannot find an option which is an IMAP equivalent to
"empty deleted folder on exit".

This explains the behaviour and I may write a macro to loop round the imap
folders and purge the deleted mails.

I noticed and missed that, too, but I assumed the change was
intentional. Going to the top of the page doesn't have much to do
with toggling everything, though it is quite often what I do next.

Your first RECEIVED: line looks like this. Perhaps Hotmail is picking
out the IP address after "proxying for". Since it's a DSL line, they
might not like it. (Not saying that's right or wrong. Just
mentioning the possibility.)

The specific IP address, not the phrase (but who knows?).

Many spam-scoring things give some bad-guy points for messages which
appear to have originated on DSL or dial-up lines (because of all the
compromised PCs in the world). It seems to me a tricky business to
*reliably* detect that, but people try to do it.

My own SM mails don't have the same form of first RECEIVED: line as
yours, but I don't know all the ins and outs of how SM decides what to
do.

[SM-USERS] Spam Filters does nothing

2005-01-12 Thread Mike SquirrelMail
I am using Squirrelmail 1.43a
I have set up the standard spam filters (the plugin that comes with the
standard setup, by choosing "options", then "Spam Filters" then choosing
from various lists).
Not one single spam message has been identified.

The mail server is not mine. I only have FTP access, so I cannot even tell
you which imap server is being used.
I don't get any error messages, and everything else seems to be working fine.
There is no SpamAssassin on the server or any other server filtering that
I can hook into.

Any suggestions how I can get these spam filters to work?

Thanks

[SM-USERS] Local and Remote Squirrelmail

2005-01-15 Thread Mike SquirrelMail
I am fairly new to SquirrelMail.
I have installed version 1.43a and it is working correctly.

I am running squirrelmail remotely i.e. on a separate server from the mail
server (as I do not have access to the mail server).

Now (like many I suspect) I am trying to reduce the amount of spam.
I have seen various plugins.

I would assume that BayesSpam can work equally well whether used locally
or remotely.

The mail server does have SpamAssassin running (I can see the headers).

Can the spamassassin plugins work remotely? or are they only useful locally?
Similarly, the spam filters that use DNS lists. Can they work remotely?

I looked in the SM documentation, and was surprised that there was no
section on local and remote.

Thanks in advance for any help

Mike

It can mean many things but it usually means that file and/or directory
permissions do not allow the web server to read the file or there is an
explicit or implied deny all for the directory in httpd.conf. Your httpd
error logs should be the first place to look as they should detail
exactly what the problem is.

Seems, as if the webserver has no access at all to the
directory /home/httpd/squirrelmail/
The directory is a symlink of /var/www/localhost/htdocs/squirrelmail
i have all of my sites at the location /home/httpd/
i did try to change the paths to the /var/www/localhost/htdocs/squirrelmail
but still receive the same error .. not sure whats happened here..

The user running the webserver (usually wwwrun) needs read-access to
all files and dirs.
That would be apache, and all files are owned by apache..
the src directory has rights as follows drwxr-xr-x apache apache src
the mail squirrelmail dir reads drwxr-xr-x 16 apache apache 712 Jan 14

however .. the originallocation has another set of rules.. this may be ther
problem.

lrwxrwxrwx   1 apache apache   25 Jan 14 21:11 squirrelmail ->
/home/httpd/squirrelmail/

how can i fix those rules?

If it is a symlink, apache may lack the right to follow the link.
There is a config-option for apache like this:

   Options SymLinksifOwnerMatch

Or maybe

   Options FollowSymLinks

If this option is not set for the parent-directory of the link, than
apache will not use the link.
Well here is the thing. The link is only there so that i can update
squirrelmail when there is an update available in portage. the actual server
config is specified to use the hard, actual parent directory; no symlinks.

This is why im so confused, its a normal configuration.

[SM-USERS] Problems with DNS filters and BayesSpam

2005-02-05 Thread Mike Squirrelmail
I am running SquirrelMail 1.4.4 on one (Linux) server, and the mail server
is remote and runs courier.

I have set up DNS filters but it does nothing (as far as I can tell).
There is a file "dnscache" under data directory, but it is always empty.

The plugins I have are:
compatibility, address_add, message_details, vlogin, filters,
delete_move_next.
When I add the BayesSpam plugin I get past the login page, but when SQ
reaches the point where I should see the inbox I get the following
message.
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: fetchrow() in
../squirrel/plugins/bayesspam/bayesspam_functions.php on line 681

Anyone been through the same problems and can help me out?

Re: [SM-USERS] Local and Remote Squirrelmail

2005-02-07 Thread Mike Squirrelmail
By remote I mean that SM is on a different server to the mail server (in
my case courier).
By local I mean that SM is on the same server as the mail server.

SpamAssassin is running on the mail server. Can I use the SA plugin
running remotely?

installed on a mail server usually (but it need not be) and all the
plugins installed in the same place. Unless a plugin requires access to
the mail server, it can run anywhere you install SM. BayesSpam should
be one such plugin. Where you access SM from using your browser is
irrelevant.

[SM-USERS] SM and Exchange 2003 with SPA

2005-09-13 Thread Thomas Kaiser (squirrelmail)

Hello List

Does SM support Secured Password Authentication (SPA or NTLM called,
too) for imap on a Exchange 2003 server?

If not is it possible to implement? Or use some other program which is
doing it for SM?

I don't have access to the Exchange server, so I cannot change
authentication on the server.

Many thanks in advance, Thomas

[SM-USERS] Big attachments corrupted

2005-09-26 Thread Thomas Kaiser (squirrelmail)

Hello

If I download attached zip-files of a couple of MB in SM, the files are
always corrupted. I can't open them. Files with couple of KB are working.

If I look in the log file of apache I see a error message like this:

rwstate=1 state=3 rstate=240 cren=0 aren=0 accept=18

Has anybody experienced same behavoir? Any tips?

I use SM 1.4.3a.

[SM-USERS] Cookies on FireFox Problem

2008-01-30 Thread SquirrelMail Email List

Hello All,

I've done some searching and have not found an answer...

The system work fine (so far) except when you try to log in with FireFox
(any version on Win98 or XP). If you have your FireFox set up to "ask me
every time" for cookies, when you get to the login screen FireFox will NOT
ask you to accept the cookie. So you put in your login and password and
you get "Error You must be logged in to access this page."

If you go into FireFox and and added the "allow" cookies for your
squirrelmail web site, it work as it should.

I do not have this problem with IE ver6.

Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks,

William,

How stupid we feel...

Nice of FireFox to block that on a domain basis rather than a machine

Anyway that worked.

[SM-USERS] Change password plugin...

2008-02-04 Thread SquirrelMail Email List

Hello,

I installed the Change SQL Password, Version 3.3-1.2 on my SquirrelMail
ver 1.4.9a-2 (Debian etch). I also installed the Compatibility plugin
Version 2.0.9 and put in the bit of code to make that work.

I put in both plugins in the conf script (squirrelmail-configure on
Debian).

Anyway I'm wondering, where do you find the button or whatever that is
used to change your password once inside your mail box.

I hope this is not a stupid question but looking around I just could not
fine it.

Thanks,

Ken

Re: [SM-USERS] Change password plugin...

2008-02-04 Thread SquirrelMail Email List

Well I might have figured out where to change it but in the process I get
the error "Fatal error: Call to undefined function md5crypt() in
/usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/change_sqlpass/functions.php on line 668"

I can see the md5crypt.php file in the same directory but it does not find
the function inside this file.

I believe I should be using "MD5CRYPT" because that is what the config
file for postfixadmin says it is using.

Thanks for the help,

Ken

[SM-USERS] Spell checking

2008-08-13 Thread SquirrelMail Email List

Hello,

We just upgraded SM from 1.4.9 to 1.4.15 and now when we compose a email
there is no red underline under a miss-spelled word. I seem to remember
that when you miss-spelled a word it put a red line under the word and you
could right click on that word and select the proper spelling.

It no longer does this. Could someone give me a hint on where to look to
correct this problem. Is this controlled in the squirrelspell plugin?

Thanks,

Ken

Marc,

Your right. It is Firefox that is doing that. I was on a different machine
and did not realize that Firefox was set up to do that. I always thought SM
was doing that. No wonder I could not find it in SM. It was driving me
nuts looking for it.

Thanks,

the mail server is running qmail/vpopmail w/mysql on redhat 9.

Sorry about that - this is the problem with using a machine having
MS-Outhouse managing about 15 different email accounts.

I appears that the directory *owner* was the problem.I set it to my web
server user (it was owned by root) and set permissions to 730, and I'm good
to go. I had forgotten that I had a similar permissions problem with the
data directory; I reset that also per the SM website instructions. Now that
I know what to search for, finding it is much easier!

Thanks again,
 -Don

[SM-USERS] Running 2 versions of Squirrelmail on the same server?

2005-02-16 Thread Simon Hargrave (squirrelmail)
Hi,

I have been running Squirrelmail 1.2.6 (Debian stable) for quite a while.

I'd now like to test the newer versions (probably 1.4.4) but I don't yet
want to compromise my "stable" version from the Debian standard. This is
my home machine so I can't do the most obvious "test on a different box".
Is there an easy way to install 1.4.4 for example alongside 1.2.6, such
that they can both be running together in perfect harmony? Ideally I'd
like to be able to browse to http://server/squirrelmail/ and also
http://server/squirrelmail144/ for example, though if I have to run a
separate apache on a separate port I could cope.
I notice from the dpkg listing of my 1.2.6 install that there are files
under: -
/etc/squirrelmail/
/usr/share/squirrelmail/
/usr/share/doc/squirrelmail/
/var/spool/squirrelmail/
/var/lib/squirrelmail/

which clearly would need changing eg to /etc/squirrelmail144/..., or
under a subroot such as /usr/squirrelmail144/etc/squirrelmail/...
Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers,

Sy

[SM-USERS] Date sorting changed?

2005-02-17 Thread Simon Hargrave (squirrelmail)
Am I correct in assuming that date ordering has changed somewhere between
1.2.6 and 1.4.5? Using the latter now and it appears that the date on
mails is now sent date rather than received date. Such that new emails
aren't neccessarily at the top of the list?

If so it's slightly disconcerting. Especially if some mails get delayed
for a day or so they could end up appearing on page 20-29, 30-39 etc.

Is this an adjustable setting somewhere?

Cheers, Sy

Jon,

Thanks for your hard work. Is there a way to check our code that is on our
servers so we can check to see if we do have "Compromised" code. If it is
compromised we need to have our users change passwords.

Thanks again,

Ken

[SM-USERS] TWC Weather

2010-01-12 Thread SquirrelMail Email List

Hello,

This took a bit to figure out.

We had a client call today and tell us they had a problem with SM and
reading mail. They are using Internet Explorer ver 8. Well I don't use IE
and so I got out a lap top that had IE7 on it and I was having the same
problem.

I can get logged in but as soon as you look at some mail it acts like the
cookies are turned off and wants you to log in again. I checked the
php.ini to see if anything had changed and nothing had. I checked other
versions of IE - version 6 at a different location same thing.

One thing I noticed all day today, when using SM with firefox the Icons
for TWC Weather are not coming in I wonder - So I turned off TWC
Weather and it now works on IE!

Some how the TWC Weather is causing a problem with IE when the TWC icons
are not working.

I'm running version 1.3p3b RC2 of TWC Weather on a SM 1.4.19. Is there a
setting in the TWC Weather config.php file that I'm missing that is
causing this problem?

Thanks,

Ken

I really would appreciate some help, as I had tried already 2 different
installs 1.4.20, 1.4.21 and all have the same issue.
What else on information would be needed ?
Where/what should I look for ?

Emails created with the Zimbra client and received don't have this problem.
Emails created by a shopping cart (shopify) don't show this problem.I can
provide images if it is easier to understand. Images are better than words. :)

My old WIN install mentioned at the beginning does not have this, no matter
which email client was used.
I really would like to get this fixed to be able to use SM with this new
install. Thank you for reading this long post, as I wanted to give as much
detail as possible.

[SM-USERS] application/pdf not octet-stream for PDF attachments?

2020-06-28 Thread Voytek Eymont via squirrelmail-users
Hi,

I'm running 1.5.2, all working well. when I get emails with PDF, usually,
they are "application/pdf" and open with PDF reader,

BUT, some emails have them as "application/octet-stream", in which case
they attempt to open directly inside SM with PS characters/codes

is there any way to tell SM to always open all .pdf files with PDF reader

I'm afraid my senders will keep sensing like they do...
