[SM-USERS] Groups in the address book

2005-08-16 Thread David
Hi all,

Does anybody know of a good solution to groups in the address book? Surely
any user with more than a dozen or so addresses is pining for groups... it
makes it much easier to send mail to lots of people.

I have tested the abook_group plugin with a mysql backend and have found
it's not really what I'm after; it's rather complicated to use (too
complicated for most of my users) and has odditties like: you can't just
create a group, you have to have an address already saved in (say) your
personal address book, and then go into your preferences, address book
groups, search for said saved address, *then* you get a chance to create a
group and assign the user.

But the groups don't appear on the address book page ?!?! So pretty useless.
My users are stuck with hand-selecting the people they routinely send mail
to.

If anyone has a suggestion for better address book groups please let me
know. I have googled everywhere, and searched the archives. But even the
most recent version of the abook_group plugin was sometime last year.

Thanks,

David.

[SM-USERS] 'You must be logged in...' after Message Compose

2005-11-28 Thread David
Hello,

I've got a really annoying problem here. My SM posts an error message
after hitting the SEND button in the compose window.
It tells me "You must be logged in to access this page". I am, however,
correctly logged in. Everything else works fine.
This message appears everytime I want to send mail. It doesn't matter if
the message is short or long, neither if I was writing it in 10 seconds or
over 30 minutes.
After clicking on "INBOX", everything works fine again. The messages are
sent when using Firefox. Using IE the messages are not sent.

This started suddenly, about two weeks ago. I can't quite figure why.
Some time before it first happened, I installed two new plugins.
Archive_Mail and email_footer. I'm not sure if this caused the error. The
plugins worked fine. Disabling those two plugins did no good. Same error
as before.
There were no further changes to the installation.

I'm running SM 1.4.4
Plugins: adress_add, compatibility, message_details
(more Plugins installed, but not enabled)
Apache 2, PHP 4
Dovecot IMAP server.
SuSE Linux 8.0
Browser: Firefox 1.0 + 1.0.7, IE 5.5 on WindowsNT + Win 2000

I hope someone has a good hint for me, as I'd really like to use SM in the
future. But not with such annoying errors.

greetz,

David

[SM-USERS] Getting started.

2006-03-20 Thread David
Hi. I have SM installed on my Linux FC4 dedicated server but I have no idea
how to link it to the 4 virtual domains I have on it. Has anyone got the
time and the will to help me get setup.

What I want is all of my domains to use the webmail
www.mydomain.net/squirrelmail etc.

Thanks

Re: [SM-USERS] Getting started.

2006-03-20 Thread David
I think all that is fine, the websites are working great. I presume there is
a config file for SM to edit, I guess I just cant work it out, I thought it
might have relatively simple. With Webmin installed I thought there might
have been a module called 'squirrelmail' or something but I cannot see
anything.

Thanks

DOH! Please ignore this post.

SquirrelMail is working :) I was typing mydomain/squirrelmail when I should
have been typing mydomain/webmail

Sorry to bother you lol :)

I expect I will be back with more questions so I will stay on the list for a

[SM-USERS] Automatically setting the senders name

2006-08-29 Thread david
Hello everybody,
this question is likely to have been answered before, but I couldn't find
the solution to my problem with guggling or the FAQ,
I would like to know if there is any way to use the user account's name as
the sender of outgoing mail instead of leaving that modifiable.

I run Ubuntu Dapper with Courier as IMAP server.

Thank you very much for your help.

[SM-USERS] Link directly to compose, but not logged in

2007-09-13 Thread David
Hello,

I have to make a page that has mailto: links + a link directly to
squirrelmail.

http://mail.myname.tld/src/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Trouble is that the user is not always logged in, when the user clicks the
link they are displayed "go to the login page to login". They go to the
login page and login, and they arrive in the main page of squirrelmail.

Is there a way to call compose, so that if the user is not logged in after
login it'll take the user back to the compose page?

Thanks,

David

[SM-USERS] non-numeric show_num breaks SM

2003-03-17 Thread David

We had a user put 'All' for the number of messages to display (Options:
Display Preferences: Number of Messages to Index) which ends up in the
config file as show_num. This resulted in all the FETCH commands trying to
get an invalid range of messages (last -> last+1 ) and so vimap (based on
wu-imap) returned BAD. This caused SM to drop the imap session and display
an error message to the user.
I changed start_num to something numeric and the problem went away.
It should probably be validated in load_prefs.php before being used.

php: 4.1.2
sm: 1.2.2 and 1.2.11

cheers,
     +david

[SM-USERS] Quota Display

2004-10-15 Thread David

I have searched the archives for the answer to this
niggling little problem...

Sometime in the last few days, my quota usage
display disappeared from the top of the left-hand (folder list) pane, and I
can't get it back.
I have tried deleting my preference file &
re-creating it and searching everywhere for another configuration option, but no
luck.
None of the other users on my system have this
problem; nothing I do with the configuration of any other user account will make
the quota display dissappear (at least nothing I've found yet :)

Has anybody encountered this before? It's rather
frustrating not being able to get my quota display back!

Thanks,
David.

Re: [SM-USERS] Quota Display

2004-10-15 Thread David
Thanks Jay,

I have checked my maildirsize file and it appears to be OK, ownership is
vpopmail:vcheckpw, same
as other users' maildirsize files.

Here is my output from the IMAP telnet session (run on the IMAP server):

--
[root]# telnet localhost 143
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 UIDPLUS CHILDREN NAMESPACE THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT
THREAD=REFERENCES SORT QUOTA IDLE ACL ACL2=UNION STARTTLS] Courier-IMAP
ready. Copyright 1998-2004 Double Precision, Inc. See COPYING for
distribution information.
a01 login [myuser] [mypassword]
a01 OK LOGIN Ok.
a02 select INBOX
* FLAGS (\Draft \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen \Recent)
* OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\* \Draft \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen)] Limited
* 6 EXISTS
* 0 RECENT
* OK [UIDVALIDITY 1096468118] Ok
* OK [MYRIGHTS "acdilrsw"] ACL
a02 OK [READ-WRITE] Ok
a03 getquota ROOT
* QUOTA "ROOT"
a03 OK GETQUOTA Ok.
--

This is the complete output. I notice it didn't actually return a quota... I
ran this command for another user who's quota
display works in squirrelmail and received:

--
a03 getquota ROOT
* QUOTA "ROOT" (STORAGE 0 102400 MESSAGE 0 1)
a03 OK GETQUOTA Ok.
--

The user's limit is 100MB, so this looks right.

Thanks again,
David.

Paul,

Thanks for your reply - sorry if I top posted - what is top posting? (I'm
probably being ignorant here to some degree...)

Tried removing the maildirquota file; it created a new one but still the
same...

So, backed up my emails (forwarded them to another account), deleted &
re-created user in qmailadmin, and I got my quota display back :) Don't know
where it went, but it's back for now thanks!

Thanks again,
David.

By "view the attachment" does that mean click on the link to the attachment

in case you're interested, my configure options for php (redhat 9, php
4.3.10):

./configure --with-apxs=/www/bin/apxs \
--with-pear \
--disable-cgi \
--disable-short-tags \
--disable-ipv6 \
--with-gd \
--with-jpeg-dir=./../libjpeg \
--with-png-dir=./../libpng \
--with-zlib-dir=/usr/include \
--with-pgsql=/usr/include \
--with-mcrypt=/usr/local/lib

That's gd 2.0.26, libmcrypt 2.5.7, libjpeg 6a, libpng 1.2.5

OK, I see what you mean - yes I get the "view" link when the attachment is
rfc822-encoded. But I can click view and see the message contents without
error.

[SM-USERS] Administrator plugin - Add users

2011-11-15 Thread David

Hello,

I enabled the administrator plugin through conf.pl, but I don't know
how to add a user that would have these privileges.

Kindly advise where to set that.

Thank you in advance,

David

Re: [SM-USERS] Administrator plugin - Add users

2011-11-15 Thread David
Hello,

I created a simple /plugins/administrator/admins text file with my email
address in it, and it works, but (also as indicated on the guides), it
seems risky to do it like that.

Any other (more secure) method?

Thanks.

[SM-USERS] Hebrew Emails/Identities

2011-11-15 Thread David
Hello,

I installed (last year) SquirrelMail version 1.4.21 and it's working
fine in English (and also in French, with all the accents and everything).

We need to add Hebrew support for our sales manager in charge of the
Israeli market, but whenever we try to set his additional identity, the
text he types in Hebrew in his name and also text he types in Hebrew in
the Subject line arrives as דוד.

The text inside the actual email arrives correctly to some mail clients,
but the same way (&#...) in others (for example, in Android).

I would appreciate any suggestion to resolve that.

Our server is running on Centos 5.X.

Thank you in advance,

David

PS. We do not need Hebrew translation of the webmail itself or anything
like that. Just to be able to write in Hebrew in a manner that would be
readable by the recepients.

[SM-USERS] scrambled folders after upgrade

2013-01-06 Thread David
I've recently upgraded to squirrel 1.4.21/Postfix/Ubuntu 12.04 from
squirrel(v??)/Postfix/Ubuntu 8.04

Subsequently the mailbox heirarchy seems to be scrambled. Particularly,
all user-created mailboxes seem to be subfolders to Trash!

Thunderbird renders the mailboxes correctly and they appear to be
correct when I look in the mail folders on the server itself. The
problem is specific to Squirrel.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

[SM-USERS] Adding RTL-LTR buttons to HTML Editor

2013-10-22 Thread David
Hello,

I would like to be able to write in Right-To-Left direction HTML based
messages, but the RTL & LTR buttons are not available by default.

As I know from other web based editors, usually, in HTML editors like TinyMCE
and similar, these buttons can be added by changing the list of options of the
editor. Is that the case here and if yes, where/how do I do that?

Thanks,

David

Re: [SM-USERS] Adding RTL-LTR buttons to HTML Editor

2013-10-22 Thread David
Hi Ted,

Thank you for your response.

Indeed, these are my settings, but I don't want to be limited to a single
language or direction, but to have the option to have both, depending on my
correspondent.

I saw in htmlarea.js file that the toolbar is supposed to include these
buttons, but that lower in the file, there's no function line for then.

Also, my actual toolbar icons and their order do not match the settings in that
file, so I suspect that the actual toolbar used is customized elsewhere, but I
couldn't find how and where.

Regards,

DavidTed Hatfield wrote:David,

If you are using the html_mail plugin and are using the fckeditor, look
for these options in the plugins/html_mail/fckeditor/fckconfig.js file.

FCKConfig.AutoDetectLanguage    = true ;
FCKConfig.DefaultLanguage   = 'en' ;
FCKConfig.ContentLangDirection  = 'ltr' ;

They won't add a button for ltr to rtl functionality but you can change
the default direction and the default language.

Tell nutsmail.com admins to upgrade PHP to the latest version (4.3.11
instead of 4.3.9 which they are currently running), it will fix their
problem. Tell them to send me a case of beer, for helping them figure
it out, too.

[SM-USERS] Importing addresses from Palm Pilot/Treo 650

2005-04-07 Thread David Williams
Is there an automated (or semi automated) way of doing this? Ideally I'd love
to be able to just plug my Treo into the Linux box (or do it over the
network/internet) and sync up my contacts with the address book.

Any thoughts/ideas on this?

I currently have v1.5.0

[SM-USERS] Increasing the depth of the compose window

2005-04-07 Thread David Williams
Is there a way to increase the compose box depth size? I can increase the
width via options but not the depth, which is a little annoying since it's
not exactly deep. And if I choose to use HTML to compose e-mails then I can
only see a few lines in the compose box since the HTML toolbars take up
several.

Not a major gripe but would be nice to fix :D

"P no manners",In regards to msg_flags I did indeed read the release notes, etc but
that was when I installed 1.5.0, which was only yesterday by the way, and it had to be installed for 1.5.0.  Excuse me not re-reading the files when
installing 1.5.1.  I read the 1.5.1 upgrade and followed what was in there.  Anyway, my mistake and excuse me.Where do I find the plug in archives?
I've taken a look on the Squirrelmail homepage but did not notice any archives.  Sorry that I didn't see your many (no doubt rude too) messages but since I
only installed 1.5.0 yesterday I have only just started to re-receive the e-mails to my mailbox. In regards to emotions, and I'm surprised you don't
know this since you seem to know it all already, there is no patch for 1.5.1.  Emotions don't mean that much to me, I was merly pointing out that the emotions
are there under FCKeditor but not HTMLArea. She, do you not KNOW how to be (if not polite) at least not RUDE and condescending?Do
not worry as I really do not want to trouble you for any code directly as just sending an e-mail out to a mailing group (and isn't the intent of a mailing
group to provide help) causes you to be rude and not really someone I'd want to approach for any additional help.  What a shame that you have to react this
way when most other people on here are very nice & helpful.Bit of a first lady are we?Anyway, thanks for the reply, some of it was useful
even if rude :)-- David Williams>> I installed 1.5.1 and there are a few minor things that I noticed.I>> cannot get the msg_flags plugin to work since the diff file will no longer patch.> > Did you even read the msg_flags page or the

Well, I subscribed well over 1 year ago when I first looked at Squirrelmail,
yesterday was the first time in one year so I didn't look at the
subscription page and that isn't the most obvious place to put a link to the
archives.

At any rate, you could have just supplied the link and not the RUDE comments
too.

I'm only wasting your time if you reply! If it's too much trouble to reply and

I'd didn't ask for patches to be re-released. Perhaps you should learn to read

I've been using eAccelerator without any issues on my Squirrelmail

[SM-USERS] Some users timeout, some work

2005-04-13 Thread David Kramer
Hey. Just joined the list. I did search the archives first, but maybe I
didn't search for the right thing. Sorry if I missed something.

Background: Suse 9.0, uw-imap (tls), apache 1.3.28-77, PHP 4.3.3, (don't
know how to get the list of installed plugins, but I know I have calendar
and variable sent folders)

When my wife logs in to squirrelmail, everything works great.
When I press the submit button on the login screen, it goes to display the
next page, but it never displays anything, and eventually times out. The
main difference between my wife's mail and mine is that she has less than
a handful of mailboxes, and I have dozens. However I know it worked for
me a few months ago, so maybe I went over some secret limit, or subscribed
to a mailbox that doesn't exist anymore, or something like that. I have
no idea how to fix such a thing, though.

I just upgraded (via RPM) from 1.4.3a-2 to 1.4.4-1, but that didn't fix
the problem. Any suggestions on what I can try? I just started a new
consulting contract, and pine through ssh isn't cutting it because of
idiots who insist on using mime attachments for a couple of paragraphs of
straight text.

Thanks in advance.

[SM-USERS] New Mail

2005-04-13 Thread David Williams
All,

I took a look through the archives but did not see anything in regards having an
option to refresh the main windown (message window) when
a new mail comes in. I do have it set up to pop up a window to inform me of new
incoming e-mails, and that is great. I just feel that if
this feature also refreshed the message window that it would be complete.

Am I missing something in regards to an option to do this?

TIA.

[SM-USERS] Squirrel mail logs out when switching folders

2005-04-26 Thread David Collis
Log-in works correctly.
The normal functions all let me browse fine - i.e. compose, addressbook,
options etc
When i switch folders however, it logs me out (not always - but most of
the time - sometimes i'll click Sent and it'll log me out straight away
other times it'll let me go to sent then log me out when i go back to
inbox).
Its incredibly irritating as it means after changing settings and
returning to the inbox it might just log me out immediately.
Cookies appear to be set correctly - I have tried this on both Internet
Explorer and Firefox.

SquirrelMail is set to connect to an IMAP server (not on the same
machine) but nearby on the same network.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thought I should add to this:
Sometimes it takes several attempts to be able to login at all, and it

don't understand.

[SM-USERS] Is it possible to access the number of new messages for an account?

2005-05-01 Thread David Rudnick

I am creating a web site for my high school newspaper.  We
have a staff of 70, and thus there will be a password-protected staff section with
reference materials and notes.  There will be a bunch of different email
accounts for various areas: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], and
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would be three examples.  Between 1-3 people will be
using each address (like for example, both ad editors will be given the
password to [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

How I’d like it to work is as follows:

1)   The user
clicks “staff only” on our main page.  They enter one common
password, this will be posted in the room we work on the paper in, this is a “semi
secure” area.  You won’t actually be able to do any damage from in
here.

2)   In a box
somewhere on the page will be a list of all the accounts, and the number of new
messages waiting.  This is what I don’t know how to do (or even if it’s
possible).  It would make it easy for people to see if they have any new
messages available without having to actually login to the email account, and
this page can be kept open on a computer in the pub room so people can glance
at it to see if they have messages.

3)   If they do
have messages, they can click on their account name which will take them to a
Squirrelmail login form that has their account name pre-filled in, and then
they can enter their mail password.  This area, unlike the main staff page, is
of course to be secured.

#2 is the hard part.  I’d appreciate any suggestions
you could provide.

[SM-USERS] Help with configuration for virtual hosts

2005-05-03 Thread david rankin
Mates,
Hopefully a simple questions. I have SM installed in
/var/www/html/sqmail. All works well with rbpllc.com and rankin-bertin.com
that use /var/www/html as their document root. But, I also have 3 other
domains (all point to the same IP) that point to /var/www/glf and
/var/www/drr and /var/www/rlf as their document root on my server. The
document roots are set in the apache vhosts.com

THE PROBLEM
Everybody can get to SM using www.rbpllc.com or www.rankin-bertin.com,
but nobody can get to SM using their own domain names because (I guess) of
the different document root paths specified in the apache setup.

Does anybody know of a quick fix for this?? Is there another variable I can
set in the vhost.conf that will let the other domain users access sqmail
from their domains as well? Any help would be appreciated.

[SM-USERS] Untitled2.Mixed attachements - unable to save attachments?

2005-05-05 Thread david rankin
Mates,
On 1.4.3a when a user tries to download an attachment, even though the
attachment name is shown correctly, when you hit download, the name of
"Untitled2.Mixed" is put in the save dialog and it tries to save the file as
a text file. Is this a configuration problem? I have googled and haven't
found a solution. Is this something that is fixed in 1.4.4? Anybody know of
a workaround?

I'm replying to myself to give an update. I upgraded to 1.4.4 and the
problem is still there. Now however, the attachment download put the right
filename in the download box but with the .Mixed extension and still tries
to download the attachment as text. How do you download attachments in
squirrelmail?? When I click download (or right click the file and 'save
target as' I get "filename.Mixed" in the save dialog and it shows to
download at text? Is there something to do with encoding that I'm missing?
Any help will be appreciated.

My guess is that a plugin is messing the structure up. Did you try without
any plugins activated? If that works, try activating them one by one until
it fails. Voilà! Worth trying at least.
Sincerely,
Fredrik.
Thank you for your reply Fredrik. I have checked and I do not have any
plugins installed (see below). I am still having the problem. Could it be a
software issue?? SM is running on a mandrake 7.2 box with 2.2.19 kernel, php
4.06 and apache 1.3.22. Are there any problems there?? This is really weird.

Thousands of people (including me) are using an SQL backend for
Squirrelmail (me MySQL).
What did you do to set the SQL database up for SM? What did you do in
'configure' or conf.pl to configure SM for it?

[SM-USERS] Remove specific links @ webmail.php

2005-05-24 Thread David Feliciano

Hello,

I apologize in advanced if my wording is off in my question...

I am running SM 1.4.0 in Mac OS 10.4.1 Server. This is the version
that comes built into Mac OS 10.4 Server. I believe I am running
Apache 1.3.

I am going to move from MS Exchange and begin to use SM for my School
District's webmail.

I need to know if it is possible to hide some of the links that are
displayed at webmail.php. This is the inbox for my users. I want to
simplify their mailbox and only allow them to view the basics. The
links I am looking to hide are: Addresses, Folders, Options, Search,
Help, Move and Expunge. I want them to be able to retrieve mail and
send mail and that's it. It didn't look like I was able to change
these in config.pl.

Thanks in advanced for your help!

David

[SM-USERS] Customize webmail HTML?

2005-05-27 Thread David Feliciano

I am running SM 1.4.0 in Mac OS 10.4.1 Server running Apache 1.3.

I am using Squirrelmail for my School District's webmail.

Is it possible to choose what options are available to the user at
the main webmail page? I want to limit the webmail page so that my
users are only able to check and compose mail. I would like to remove
the following links from the webmail page: Addresses, Folders,
Options, Search, Help, Move and Expunge. I've read the docs about
configuring SM and when I run config.pl it doesn't look like I can
hide these links.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

[SM-USERS] Upgrade SM in Mac OS 10.4 Server

2005-05-31 Thread David Feliciano

Hi,

I am running SM 1.4.0 in Mac OS 10.4 Server and would like to upgrade

Server but things are considerably different in OS 10.4. Any
suggestions on how to upgrade to SM 1.4.4 in OS 10.4 server are
greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

[SM-USERS] Re: Upgrade SM in Mac OS 10.4 Server

2005-06-01 Thread David Feliciano
I had upgraded from Mac OS 10.3 Server to 10.4 and the upgrade does
not upgrade SM to 1.4.4. I didn't realize that 10.4 Server came with
SM 1.4 when it is installed fresh. I did a fresh install and now I'm
good to go.

Thank you.

[SM-USERS] New e-mails

2005-06-05 Thread David Williams
Took a look through the archives but couldn't find anything on this, although
this could be a Cyrus problem, not sure.

I had an e-mail book that had become corrupt and I ran a reconstruct on it and
since then it seems to be fine, part
from 1 strange thing. All new e-mails are coming through as READ and not
unread. No idea why this is happening.
This is quite annoying since the new mail notification is not recognizing new
e-mails and it isn't always easy to
determine when a new e-mail comes.

Anyone have any idea on this or where to look?

Thanks.

It sounds like the proxy is caching pages when it probably shouldn't
be. A simple fix would be to run squirrelmail under https/SSL, then
it will be encrypted from end to end. Another option would be to
configure the web server to set HTTP headers appropriately to tell any
cache's to avoid caching any pages on your Squirrelmail setup.

Hmm, so it's definitely not a proxy issue. My next guess is that
there is a bug with the way PHP handles sessions. What version of PHP
are you running?

[SM-USERS] Five minute delay in POSTing login form

2005-07-31 Thread David Macfarlane
I'm stumped. I've installed version 1.4.3a SquirrelMail on my RedHat 7.3
server, using apache 1.3.27 with PHPmod 4.1.2, not using a database. I
Alias-ed the directory, not using trailing '/'.

When I go to the url, I get the SquirrelMail login page, with textboxes for
Name: and Password:. Looking at the page source, I can see the tag
is going to POST to "redirect.php". But when I type in a name and password,
then click the Login button, it takes five minutes for my server to see the
POST request. And then that doesn't seem to return anything to the browser
(which stays displaying the login page).

I've tested this with Firefox and IE on my laptop and Lynx on a BSD server -
same behavior.

Any ideas, folks? I feel I've missed something obvious, but I can't see it
for looking. Thanks.

If you're running SM under https/SSL, there is no way for the proxy to
mix up your requests, if using https through a proxy, the proxy will
simply connect through, it can't read any of the request data such as
request headers or response headers.

You can guarantee that any data received via SSL has been untouched by
any proxy, otherwise you've just found a way to break SSL.

SM uses session cookies to maintain login state. That means you need
to maintain one session cookie per SM login session. If somehow a
different user got the same SM session cookie, they would then be able
hijack the original user's SM session and view their email.

For example, when I start a SM session, I get a session cookie set
with the name SQMSESSID and hex string 32 chars long which is randomly
generated. If someone gets that 32 char hex string, they can hijack
my SM session.

I am not a SM developer so I'm not sure whether session cookies are
generated in SM or using a built-in PHP function to do so, but I would
assume the latter. I don't know if there are any bugs in PHP's
session generating function, but it can't hurt to make sure you're
running the latest version of PHP.

[SM-USERS] "Move selected to" sorts folders wrong.

2005-08-09 Thread David Kramer
I recently upgraded to SM 1.4.5-1 (talking to UW-IMAP over 993, on SuSE 9.0).

I don't remember whether this problem existed before or not, because I
only just started using SM after not using it for a while, but in the
pulldown list of folders at the "Move selected to" prompt, the folders are
sorted by name, but it doesn't include the parent folder in the name of
subfolders, so in the case where I have two subfolders of the same name
under different parents, I can't tell which is which in that pulldown.

Note that the folders work fine in both the folder pane and the "Save Sent
Message in:" pulldown list.

Is that a bug, or some configuration thing I did wonky?

Thanks.

[SM-USERS] Installing Squirrelmail with virtual hosts

2005-09-24 Thread David Leangen

Hello!

I am hoping to get some advice from more experienced people.

I am trying to set up Squirrel for use with vpopmail.

I am using:

  squirrelmail v.1.4.5
  bincimap v. 1.2.13
  vpopmail v. 5.4.10
  compatibility plugin v. 2.0.1
  vlogin plugin v. 3.6

  running on FC3
  with Apache2
  php4.4.0

qmail installation as per "Life With qmail"
bincimap installation as per "Life With bincimap"

My vpopmail and bincimap setups are normally working fine. Also, I can get
Squirrel running without using virtual domains, so I think there is just
something that I'm missing in my Squirrel configuration.

Can anybody provide me with some useful advice? I hope my question is not
too general... I can provide additional information if necessary.

Thanks!!!

Dave

Good point.

The setup is as described below. What I mean by "problem" is that when I try to
login, I am directed to the error page that says:

"Error: Unknown user or password incorrect".

It seems that I have been unable to redirect login authentication to vchkpw.
However, since I'm new to squirrel, I'm not sure that there aren't other issues
that I'm overlooking as well.

I provide the configuration I used in my config.php file below. I hope this
gives enough info...

[SM-USERS] Setting up i18n for Japanese

2005-09-25 Thread David Leangen

I am trying to install Japanese support with squirrel. I compiled php
with --enable-mbstring and it appears to be set up correctly. When I run
"php -i | grep mbstring", I see:

Configure Command =>  './configure' '--with-apxs2=/usr/sbin/apxs'
'--with-mysql' '--enable-mbstring=all' '--enable-mbregex' '--with-gettext'

mbstring
mbstring extension makes use of
"streamable kanji code filter and converter", which is distributed under
the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1.

mbstring.detect_order => auto => auto
mbstring.encoding_translation => Off => Off
mbstring.func_overload => 0 => 0
mbstring.http_input => auto => auto
mbstring.http_output => UTF-8 => UTF-8
mbstring.internal_encoding => UTF-8 => UTF-8
mbstring.language => Japanese => Japanese
mbstring.substitute_character => no value => no value

However, when I log in, I get this error message:

You need to have php4 installed with the multibyte string function
enabled (using configure option --enable-mbstring).

Also, when I run the config test, I see this:

Checking internationalization (i18n) settings...
gettext - Gettext functions are available. You must have
appropriate system locales compiled.
mbstring - Mbstring functions are unavailable. Japanese
translation won't work.

recode - Recode functions are unavailable.
iconv - Iconv functions are available.
timezone - Webmail users can change their time zone settings.

Is there something else I need to do, besides compiling php with
--enable-mbstring and changing a few values in my php.ini?

Thanks!

Re: [SM-USERS] Setting up i18n for Japanese

2005-09-25 Thread David Leangen

Ok, now something else... (sorry for all the questions!!)

I am trying to install Japanese support with squirrel.

If you want to check php configuration, you must use phpinfo()

Japanese support is working. When I change the language option to
"Japanese", all the menu items, buttons, etc. are in Japanese. Also, I
can read (and presumable write) Japanese messages.

However, I have not been able to read Japanese messages with the
language option set to "English". Is this normal? Or again, am I doing
something wrong.

I changed "default encoding" to "UTF-8" in my conf.php. I didn't see any
other settings to try.

BTW, if this is by design, I think it is a flaw... but that's just my
opinion...

Cheers,
Dave

Re: [SM-USERS] Using Japanese characters in mail

2005-10-07 Thread David Leangen

Sonal,

JIS encoding (iso-2022-jp) is the most commonly-used encoding scheme in
Japan. Your Word, Excel, IE, or any other application should easily be
able to handle it. Check the documentation of your application for details.

As for squirrel, I am not an expert, but I did make a few changes to my
php.ini file as well as my config.php file. Check out the related
entries and you should (hopefully) be able to figure it out.

Otherwise, I guess you'll have to wait for some squirrel expert to help
you out.

Good luck!

Dave

[SM-USERS] global address book not working

2005-10-13 Thread David Koski
Hello,

I have an install of squirrelmail that the global address book cannot be added
to. When I manually copy a personal address book file to the global address
book, the global address book is visible and looks normal in squirrelmail.
But when adding addresses with squirrelmail selecting "global address book"
from the drop down the address is added to the personal address book.

Plugins
  Installed Plugins
1. delete_move_next
2. squirrelspell
3. newmail
4. message_details
5. calendar_file_backend
6. calendar
7. compatibility

# rpm -q squirrelmail
squirrelmail-1.4.4-1th

Linux: TSL 2.1

Any ideas?

[SM-USERS] End User Issues

2005-12-08 Thread David Thompson

This is David with Redwire technical support. I
have a user that is reporting a rather strange issue with this squirrelmail. I
was not able to reproduce the issue on my end of things but he says he hasn't
made any changes to his computer. He is using IE on XP Pro. He described to me
the text in the emails showing up as "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" which
is the wingdings font. I did check all of his settings and I did roll them all
back to default. I stopped short of uninstalling IE and reinstalling it
however.

[SM-USERS] Configuring Squirrelmail for non-standard SMTP port

2005-12-08 Thread David Ramsey
A few months ago, I set up a Barracuda Spam Firewall to help manage
the loads of spam my mail server was getting.

I created an MX record for my domain to point to the Barracuda.
Everything worked great.

Except that there was still some spam coming in because the spammers
were sending directly to the SMTP port on my server, and ignoring the
MX record.

OK, so I changed my mail server's SMTP port to a non-standard port,
and reconfigured the Barracuda to send to that port. Everything
worked great. Users had to reconfigure their SMTP settings in their
mail clients, but it was all cleared up in a day or two and the spam
load dropped to pretty much zero.

Except said users can no longer send mail through Squirrelmail. Click
the "Send" button and the error is "Connection refused/Server
replied: 61".

Yes, I reconfigured Squirrelmail's SMTP settings to use the new port.
No, I didn't change anything else...no TLS, etc.

Anyone have any ideas? I've searched online, scoured the archives,
and haven't seen anything like this.

[SM-USERS] MIME/base64: Whose Bug is this?

2005-12-12 Thread David Purton
Hi all,

Just trying to track down whose bug this is:

I run a mime checking acl in exim and reject mail that supposedly does
anything non-standard. (helps to pick up virii)

I notice that some base64 encoded attachments fropm Squirrelmail trigger
this and get rejected.

I am running squirrelmail 1.4.4-6sarge1 under debian sarge.

I ran some tests and noticed the following:

When squirrelmail attaches a file, the encoding finishes up like this:

.
.
.
AQAgALaBAFNJTUVRQVROLjgzUFBLAQIUABQAAgAIAAdNhgHB78I1ZwAAAJYM
AAEAIAC2gVIBAABTaW1lcWF0bi5uZm9QSwUGAAIAAgB04wEA--=_20051213101035_76559--

Notice that the boundary part is tacked onto the end of the last line.
This has the affect of making the last line longer than 76 characters
and also introduces characters that are not part of mime base64 encoding
scheme.

Hence my exim acl rejects the mail for two reason:

demime acl condition: base64 line length exceeds 76 characters
demime acl condition: base64 line contains illegal character

Who is right here? Is it legal to tack the mime boundary straight on the
end of the base64 encoding?

For what it is worth, mutt encodes the same file like this:

.
.
.
UFBLAQIUABQAAgAIAAdNhgHB78I1ZwAAAJYMAAEAIAC2gVIBAABTaW1lcWF0
bi5uZm9QSwUGAAIAAgB04wEA

--cWoXeonUoKmBZSoM--

Notice the blank line before the mime boundary.

Also, can anyone confirm that the behaviour is the same or different in
more recent versions of squirrelmail or non debian versions?

cheers

dc

I might look at backporting 1.4.6 for sarge once it hits sid.

[SM-USERS] Howto - Send Bounce Message when att file sz exceeded

2005-12-13 Thread david rankin
Mates,

I have situations were people (outside) occasionally try to send
attachments
to the mail server that exceed the 10M limit. How do I get the system to send
a response (or bounce) letting the sender know that the attachment was
rejected?

The system is Mandriva LE2005, squirrelmail 1.4.4, php 4.3.10, apache
2.0.53-9.2.102

Is this something I tell postfix to do? Is it something I tell php to
do? Any
help would be appreciated.

Right now, if the attachment is rejected, the sender does not get
notice and
presumes that the attachment made it through.

Jennifer,

It should be a no brainer. The only trick is to make sure you are
telling OE
to look for your existing message stores in the right place. View the
properties for your account on OE and select the imap tab (top right). Make
sure the "root folder path" points to the users message store that is used by
squirrelmail. Usually "mail/" or "Mail/". You can confirm by looking at the
users home directory on the server. You should see /home/(username)/mail,
etc...

At least that is how I do it.

Yes, you want to have your SMTP server do this. No point having
SquirrelMail do it. I think you want to tweak message_size_limit for
Postfix, which should default to 1024 bytes.

Thanks Chris,

I had already tweaked that. I was trying to figure out how to send a
bounce message 'if' the attachment size exceeding the 10M limit. Any other
ideas?

[SM-USERS] Any large scale, >50,000 user, installations of SquirrelMail?

2005-12-16 Thread David Yett
We currently have 15K users on our SquirrelMail service. Has anyone scaled this to 50,000 - 100,000 subscibers? We're trying to decide whether to stay with SquirrelMail and one of the criteria is scalability.

Would appreciate if anyone managing a large installation has any good or bad experiences they could share.

Thanks,
David

Re: [SM-USERS] NewMail and Folder Unread Message Notification

2006-02-22 Thread David Williams
Gregor,

I'm with you on this. I actually had an older version of 1.5 (maybe 1.5.0 not
sure) and the notifications worked as
you mentioned in 1.4.6. I just installed 1.5.1 the other day and now I get an
email notification for all emails :(
Really annoying since I too filter off several emails to predefined folders for
reading at a later date. An example
being emails about Squirrelmail :)

Are we missing something here or was this nice functionality removed, or did a
gremlin get into the code?

Cheers,

Great, and thanks for the great work. So far, barring a few minor issues 1.5.1

The headings in the folder frame is no longer centred, but no biggie :)

At the top of the left hand frame (that contains the folders) there is a title
that says "Folders" and I guess it
depends how it's configured but in mine I have the following:

Folders

This used to be centred but now it's at the left.

If this still is not clear then let me know and I will send a screen shot.

[SM-USERS] Viewing HTML emails

2006-02-23 Thread David Williams
I am doing something wrong or is this a common problem when viewing HTML emails?

I have squirrelmail 1.5.1, PHP5 and Cyrus IMAP server.

My theme is 'Black Bean Burrito' which I like :)

Anyway, it seems that a lot of html emails have black text and with this theme
I can't
see the text :( If I change theme then there is always the chance that someone
will
have white text or something different.

Is there a way to configure SM so that I never have 'invisible' text?

Thanks.

That's the one. I'm actually using it (got a little lost when I recently
installed
1.5.1) and it works just fine :)

Re: [SM-USERS] Viewing HTML emails

2006-02-23 Thread David Williams
Thomas, this is already set.

I can see the iframe (and I can set the height in options) but like I said,
when using
'Black Bean Burrito' several emails are just invisible.

A few of the emails on this forum have given me problems. An example is the
email from
Networks & Systems Admin which was titled 'left side error message'

When I open this up it's just a big black box...can't see any text unless I
highlight
everything!

[SM-USERS] Problem with Sent_Subfolders in 1.5.1

2006-03-01 Thread David Williams
Recently installed 1.5.1 and I noticed today that the sent subfolders plugin
seems to
have a problem with creating the new '03' sent subfolder for March.

I just downloaded and installed the latest release of 1.5.1 when it was
announced about
2 weeks ago. No major problems until this morning. I have had to remove the
send
subfolders plugin (This is now part of the standard SM release right?) so that
I can at
least see my folders in the left frame and read emails.

The error message I see in the left frame if I enable sent subfolders is as
follows:

ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: SUBSCRIBE "INBOX.Sent.2006"
Reason Given: Subscribe: Mailbox does not exist

I can see that INBOX.Sent.2006 exists.

No idea why this has suddenly stopped working but it's a real shame since I
really love
this piece of functionality to filter my sent mail by month so as not to clog
up just 1
sent mail folder.

I'm running apache2, php5 and Cyrus IMAP.

Would appreciate any help on this.

Regards,

___

Re: [SM-USERS] Problem with Sent_Subfolders in 1.5.1

2006-03-01 Thread David Williams
Tomas,

The exact error message is exactly as I wrote in my intial email. There is no
'.' at
the end of 2006. What is confusing to me is that I do have the folder:
INBOX.Sent.2006
and under this folder I have 01 & 02.

Like I said, this was working fine until I installed 1.5.1 that was released in
Feb.

Ok, I just worked this out. For some reason INBOX.Sent.2006 wasn't actually a
folder !!
But INBOX.Sent.2006.01 and INBOX.Sent.2006.02 were, maybe was an issue with the
previous
sent subfolder plugin, I don't know. I created the folder INBOX.Sent.2006 and
now it's
fine.

Still kind of funky though !

[SM-USERS] Not all HTML messages display properly after FC5 upgrade

2006-03-28 Thread David Rees
I had been running squirrelmail installed from 1.4.6 tarball on FC4
for some time without any problems. I upgraded to FC5 yesterday and
now I notice that some HTML messages that I receive are no longer
rendered properly. The message is a text/html message but the message
is displayed as plain/text so I see the raw HTML.

Messages that are affected seem to be messages which only contain a
text/html part, and not messages which contain both a text/plain and a
text/html part where the text/html displays as expected.

I bounced the message back to a FC4 machine where it displayed OK.

Using configtest.php the difference that I see is that now gettext is
available on the FC5 system, it wasn't on the FC4 system. Any ideas on
what the problem is?

No MIME-Version header... it looks like the mails which display
properly after the upgrade have MIME-Version headers, but why did they
stop displaying properly?

Yes, that's correct, the IMAP server was upgraded from Dovecot 0.99.14
to 1.0-beta2. How does the IMAP server affect the display of the
message? Does it decide whether or not to pass along the Content-Type
header?
