Either is fine, but I prefer 1.4.23 if only because there is better
plugin support for that. As of now, the 1.4 series will continue to be
supported for the indefinite future. Most interesting features of 1.5.2
have been backported to 1.4.23 and/or there are plugins that do the
same. That said, as you note, 1.5.2 also works just fine (and is easier
to add skins to if that's your interest/goal).

Just for the sake of completeness, this is not a SquirrelMail question.
Make sure to consult your IMAP server logs and documentation to
understand where your IMAP server is looking for its user credentials.

Consult the UW IMAP documentation or community resources to learn how to
configure your IMAP server.

What you need to do is seek help in the correct place. Good luck.

Sorry for the delay. SquirrelMail creates .eml attachments itself if
you select a message on the message list and click the "Forward" button.
Look at the resulting message source and you'll see the attachment is a
.eml file. Make sure your installation handles such messages and then
compare the structure of that to the ones you're getting from the
external sender. What's different about them? How is SquirrelMail
seeing/handling the ones from the external sender?
