[SM-USERS] Occasional Empty fields in 'From' and 'Subject' after migrating to new server

2016-07-04 Thread rich . greder
Hello guys,

I have a weird one here. I migrated from a Digital Ocean machine to my own
privately owned device running Ubuntu 16.04. After installing Postfix 3.1.0
and Dovecot 2.2.22 I copied the data directory and the virtual host inboxes
across. It was late at night, I logged into the new machine and wow, it
worked. All my mail from the past three years is right there.

Today, I logged in to check my email, and I noticed a peculiar thing happened.
About 10% of my emails are missing text from their Subject field, which makes
them impossible to open. Some of these are even missing text for the From
field. This text is visible on my old host, but not visible on the new host.
I tried to highlight the page in case the text/background were the same color,
but that wasn't true.

There is no pattern to the mix. One message from a particular sender,
"i...@e.twitter.com" was missing the subject text, but another from the same
sender did have a subject text. Has anybody seen this behavior before? I wish
I could be of more help, but heisenbugs like these are quite confounding to
somebody such as me as I've never studied the Squirrelmail source.

Here is an example:

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Check this, maybe you will have to wait for SM to be ready for php7, like me

I didn't ask for PHP7. I took it because that was what I got when I ran

#apt-get install squirrelmail

The exact files dropped in my var/cache/apt/archives are:

squirrelmail_2%3a1.4.23~svn20120406-2ubuntu1_all.deb
squirrelmail-locales_1.4.18-20090526-1_all.deb
squirrelmail-viewashtml_3.8-3_all.deb

So, how is it that I do a straightforward install and end up with the wrong
version of PHP? Why couldn't it just install the older version that it needed?

Rick.

When you install squirrelmail it does not install php, php is installed with
your ubuntu
distribution, the last ubuntu has php7 by default.

This might be old information, but I had a lot of problems when I installed
Squirrelmail on OpenSUSE 13.2. A summary of that working config can be found in
the mailing list history for December 2014 / January 2015.

I am currently successfully running a patched Squirrelmail 1.4.22 on OpenSUSE
Leap 42.1.I installed the distribution packages just to get the dependencies
right, but then installed 1.4.22 from the Squirrelmail web site. To get the
subjects right, you need to apply a patch. Start looking for it in the Dec 2014
/ Jan 2015 mailing list and you will find a link to the patch (v2).

I am sorry that I don't have a simpler answer, but the above should solve your
problem.

BR

Niclas
