Are your user accounts really in a database? If so, you need to
configure the plugin to connect to your database (with appropriate
permissions), which it seems you have not done. You'll need to
consult your database logs to see what's happening when the connection
attempt is made (if it's even able to find your database) and verify
that you are using the correct host/database/password and table
information.

Folder/directory permissions have nothing to do with connecting to a
database. Please read the documentation for the plugin and the
documentation for the Pear DB package to learn more about how to
connect to a database.

[SM-USERS] Force to change password after login into squirrelmail

2012-04-02 Thread Rohitashva Sharma
Hi,

I am using Squirrelmail version 1.4.19 on Scientific Linux with Apache.
I have configured change_pass plugin with squirrelmail with poppassd at
the IMAP server, so my users can change passwords of their accounts.

I have a requirement where user need to change his/her password on the
first login. When we create account on IMAP server, we give a default
password which need to be changed on first login. The user should not be
allowed do anything like read mails, access address book etc.without
changing the password.

Please suggest how can I achieve this.

thanks and regards
Rohitashva

Version 1.5.2 has more index options and could be easier to add to,
however, it's unusual to need to use the sent date (and could be
unreliable or inaccurate) thus such an option has not yet been
implemented. Patches are always welcome.

Take a look at the change_sqlpass plugin which has this feature. It
can be ported for the most part directly to the change_pass plugin,
however, you'll need to design a way for the plugin to determine which
users need to be forced to change their passwords.

Re: [SM-USERS] IMAP Problem with Strato

2012-04-02 Thread hamees
Hello, just for your information:

Final reply from Strato was their servers are okay and it looks like a SM
problem. So we have tried installing SM on a fresh system without changing
anything except the IMAP-Parameters, same result.

Funnily the error does never occur when using "Delete&Next" or "Delete&Prev",
only when opening mails directly or using "Prev" and "Next", not only for
unseen, but also for seen messages now.

We will probably switch to using an own IMAP-Server, but I'll try to get more
info on this issue.

Cheers, John

It's impossible to respond to this without any further information
(i.e., see my last message). Thanks for looking into it.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply.

I had a look at the change_sqlpass and change_pass plugin. I have also
devised a mechanism to identify the user whose password need to be
forcibly changed and developed a small plugin for this. I attached the
plugin as 'webmail_top' hook. The problem is that as soon as the user
logs in, my plugin prompts the user to change the password but the user
is allowed to click on other links like INBOX, Compose etc and he has a
choice not to change the password.

What I want is that the user should not be able to do anything without
changing the password. Please suggest how is that possible.

thanks and regards
Rohitashva

The change_sqlpass plugin is more restrictive, so as I suggested,
please refer to it.

If you want to limit user actions even more than change_sqlpass
plugin, please have a look at the hook list in the plugin development
guidelines or grep the source for hooks in the places you need.

Cheers,

  Paul
