[SM-USERS] A Question about a possible add-on

2012-03-31 Thread Bill Mann
Folks,

Is there an add-on for Squirrelmail where the user can schedule an e-mail
being sent in future (ie. next Tuesday or April 10)? I had a request from
several users for this feature. Thanks for the help.

Bill

SquirrelMail is only active for the short period of time it takes to
generate a webpage. You need some kind of daemon on the server side,
that's always online, for this to happen. If you find such a solution (I
haven't been looking myself) it's most likely possible to write a
SquirrelMail plugin to use it.

You only need to add an entry in your crontab.
That should be easy to write such an add-on for someone who know php
(not me sorry)

Have a nice w-e

Although it's a possible solution, I'm not sure if that's the one I would
choose. I wouldn't want my webserver to be able to update crontab, so I'd
write some queue for the mail to be sent and then have crontab or a daemon
check that queue on a regular basis to see if there's anything to send.

Step two is to write a SquirrelMail plugin for putting mail into that
queue. It's still crude, but would work. Unfortunately I don't have time
to hack anything up. Maybe someone else have any suggestions?

Are your user accounts really in a database? If so, you need to
configure the plugin to connect to your database (with appropriate
permissions), which it seems you have not done. You'll need to
consult your database logs to see what's happening when the connection
attempt is made (if it's even able to find your database) and verify
that you are using the correct host/database/password and table
information.
