[SM-USERS] Moving data from MS office Outlook Webaccess to Squirrelmail

2010-09-09 Thread chuck
I have a new client and I'm building him a web page and pointing his
domain name to my server - that's done and life is 98% good. To this
point he has only had email, MS Outlook Webaccess. All of his past
emails, address book etc. are on that server (I'm guessing a cbeyond
server).

I need to know how to extract everything and move him over to my server
using Squirrelmail.

Thanks
Chuck

This being a mailing list for SquirrelMail, you're not going to get
many MS Outlook Webaccess experts around here. It's possible someone
might be able to offer advice (and did you check the mailing list
archives? I seem to remember this coming up in the recent past, but
could be wrong), but you might be better off asking elsewhere as well
as asking for help from the former hositng provider, since we can't
presume to know what access they might provide to your user's data.

Extract?

SquirrelMail has a plugin for importing address book data (once you
have it), and there is plenty of help on the web for migrating IMAP
data including in the SquirrelMail docs (so I presume you didn't do
much searching before asking). You are also pretty vague about what
"everything" means

For starters, try:

You are mixing up Squirrelmail being a mail client which has nothing to
do with a server migration.

Likely what you should do is configure the IMAP service on the exchange
server.

Then setup a client such as Thunderbird, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.
and configure the client to have the IMAP account for the new and old
server.

Make sure you have subscribed to all the folders.

Then drag email from one server to the other.

Depending on the amount of email, the speed of the connections to the
servers and the number of users, you could be in for a lot of work.

Regards,
KAM

The only access to the exchange server I have is http
webmail.cbyondonline.net/owa/# then login/pw

If I'm reading you right ... on my server create an account pierre, make
the servername
webmail.cbyondonline.net/owa/# (think that's going to be wrong) The user
name would be pie...@hisdomain.com and I should be prompted for the pw -
doesn't happen. He has 16 pages of 25 saved messages.

I just tried telnet 110 - Conn. refused.
and changed my Thunderbird to 143 for his account - error.

If you can't get 110 or 143, I believe you can configure Entourage for
the Mac to use an OWA address as a server. I'm 99% sure I did it with
my 2004 Entourage on my previous Mac laptop.

Perhaps you can do the same with outlook but I don't know.

I'd likely bug the current hosting company to find out if pop/imap is
available or RPC over HTTPS.
