[SM-USERS] Problem with Seeing Mail over web

2006-08-11 Thread ronrebhall

My company uses squirrelmail as a means of being able to check email over the internet when traveling.  The problem is when I log into squirrelmail via the internet there are no messages in my inbox.  I am using Microsoft Outlook 2003 as a means of retrieving my mail when I am working at the house and it seems to be fine.   Can anyone explain to me why it is not sending my emails into squirrelmail as well?  Thanks in advance for your help.

[SM-USERS] Bug Report

2006-08-11 Thread serendipity2001
I subscribe to the squirrelmail-users mailing list.

This bug occurs when I ...
-Log into email via the web.
-Click "send" after typing an email
-View folders
-View a message and try to save it to a folder
-use a specific plugin/function "SEND"

The description of the bug:
ERROR:
ERROR : Connection dropped by imap-server.

It does not matter if I am at home (dial-up) using Mozilla or at work
(hi-speed) using Internet Explorer. This is a frequent and annoying
occurance that happens 2-3 times a session. After viewing a message and
going back to message list or when I click on "INBOX" or any kind of
activity involving general viewing of email. This has been happening for
more than 6 months. It makes me want to switch ISPs. I've never had this
problem with other ISPs. I think it's your webmail program that does
this.

I can reproduce the bug by: It just happened again when I clicked on
"send" for this report. I hqad to retype the whole thing and then submit
it again. It has happened before when I click "send" after I have spent a
great deal of time creating a detailed email. It is VERY frustrating to
have to retype a communication after spending a long time in thought.
Please can't you fix this problem?

[SM-USERS] Folders and Messages Dissapearing!!

2006-08-11 Thread Jamie Gosling

I am getting very frustrated, I don't know what is
going on with this new version of e-mail. I am a student at Mount Royal College
and my folders keep dissapearing and all my messages all erase after I open
just one of them!! They are important, I hope there is some way of
recovering them. I try to subscribe to new folders but it says there are no
folders to subscribe or unsubscribe to. I had like 40 messages and they have all
deleted.

[SM-USERS] Bug Report: Message-List not displayed if encoding in header

2006-08-11 Thread d
I subscribe to the squirrelmail-users mailing list.
[ ] True - No need to CC me when replying
[x] False - Please CC me when replying

This bug occurs when I ...
  ... view a particular message

The description of the bug:
When a message with some "special" properties exists in a folder, the
folder-list is not displayed. Only the head of a folder list-page is
visible. This means: you can see navigation, quote of the minute, overall
folder summary and finally message-navigation (I mean that move to folder
xx, mark es (un)read stuff and so on)).
Already *not* visible is the headlines of the message list. (From, Date,
Subject). As well not visible are the messages in the folder.

I can reproduce the bug by:
- See that folder list is not accessible. Okay, we have the problem.
- Move out the message from the folder using another IMAP client
-> Result: Folder-List visible.
- Move back in message
-> Result: Folder-list not visible
- Move back out message
-> Result: Folder-List visible.

(Optional) I got bored and found the bug occurs in:
The message contains some fancy encodings in the subject, which is wrapped
to the next lines. When patching this subject back to "7-bit clean ASCII",
the folder list gets displayed.
>From this, I see it's the encoding in the subject-line, which "kills" the
list.
As well I can reproduce if there is a comment with encoding in the "From:"
line (e.g. a German name with "Umlaut").
I found this problem, when enoding in UTF-8, ISO-8859-15 and ISO-8859-1
arrives. This sound like "any encoding"...

A sample message to reproduce is attached. It's taken directly from the
IMAP maildir.

(Optional) I got really bored and here's a fix:
I'm sorry :) I can only do J2EE

[SM-USERS] Bug Report

2006-08-11 Thread David Guntner
I subscribe to the squirrelmail-users mailing list.
[ ] True - No need to CC me when replying
[X] False - Please CC me when replying

This bug occurs when I ...
  ... use a specific plugin/function

The description of the bug:

I'm running the change_passwd plugins for Squirrelmail. Or at least,
trying to. :-)

The "version" file says that the version is 4.0, although the readme claims
4.1. Current (1.4.7) version of Squirrelmail. Current version 2.0.4 of the
compatibility plugin.

Now, here's the interesting problem. If I run configure and enable the
plugin, then when I go to the Options page, ALL options vanish. Not just
the option for change_passwd - all of them. I get a blank page when I
click on Options. If I deactivate the plugin with the configure program
for
Squirrelmail, the options appear on the page again.

Any ideas what might be causing such a peculiar problem?

You won't see it in the plugins list at the end of this message, since
it's not currently active. It would be change_passwd if it were listed
there.

Any help would be appreciated.

I can reproduce the bug by:

Using the configure script to active the plugin. When it's active, all
options disappear from the Options page. When it's not active
(deactivated by the configure script), all options return to the Options
page.

[SM-USERS] SquirrelMail 1.4.8 released - fixes variable overwriting attack

2006-08-11 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Hello all,

Today SquirrelMail version 1.4.8 has been released with a collection of
bugfixes and an important security fix. It was possible for an
authenticated user to overwrite random variables in the compose.php
script. This may open up possible attack vectors like reading or
overwriting a user's preference file or attachments.

We advise all current SquirrelMail users to upgrade. There's also a
patch available against 1.4.7. The interesting thing is that the
function that contained the flaw was actually broken. The function is
used to resume a compose session of a user that is confronted with a
session timeout after composing a long mail. We've got two patches
available: a minimal one which just removes the code, since it was
broken anyway, and a full version that repairs the functionality and
closes the hole.

SquirrelMail can be downloaded here:
http://www.squirrelmail.org/download.php
The patches can be found here:
http://www.squirrelmail.org/patches/sqm1.4.7-expired-post-fix-minimal.patch
http://www.squirrelmail.org/patches/sqm1.4.7-expired-post-fix-full.patch
They can also be applied (although not entirely clean) against the current
development version.

We'd like to thank James Bercegay of GulfTech Security Research for
finding this issue and reporting it to us.

Happy SquirrelMailing!

Thijs Kinkhorst

[SM-USERS] Problem with Seeing Mail over web

2006-08-11 Thread ronrebhall

My company uses squirrelmail as a means of being able to check email over the internet when traveling.  The problem is when I log into squirrelmail via the internet there are no messages in my inbox.  I am using Microsoft Outlook 2003 as a means of retrieving my mail when I am working at the house and it seems to be fine.   Can anyone explain to me why it is not sending my emails into squirrelmail as well?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Ronnie Hall

Re: [SM-USERS] Problem with Seeing Mail over web

2006-08-11 Thread Matthew Allen
Sounds to me like when you check with outlook you are checking with POP and
your POP settings are set to delete the messages from the server once they
have been downloaded onto your computer. This would explain why when you
check with SQM that nothing is there, because Outlook deleted them all.

To solve this on the main screen of Outlook goto:

  , Then highlight the
desired email account, most people will only have one, from there click

On the bottom of this screen is the option to leave mail on the server for
so many days, (or forever). Alter this acordingly then OK through back to
your main Outlook screen. Outlook will now stop deleting the mail on your
server, so when you come to check it with Squirrel Mail there should be some
mail still on your server for you to check ;)

Hope this helps...
Matt.

This would be an issue with yoru IMAP server... or more specifically a
configuration issue with your IMAP server. Check your MAXPERIP
setting in your imapd file. Chances are you have it set to the
default (4). All connections from SquirrelMail appear from a single
IP address, that causes courier to drop/block excessive connections.

A blank page is usually indicative of a PHP error. From what I
remember, this plugin requires some minor code changes to work. You
should try using the list archives for the -plugins list to search for
this plugin as I believe it has been discussed a bit in the last few
months.

Usually, when this happens, there is an error message. Do you run the
server? If not, please direct your questions to the people that do.
If you do run the server, you should know that SquirrelMail doesn't
receive the email, it just displays it. This means that the issue is
in the underlying software (ie, SMTP services). You should consult
your SMTP documentation and logs to diagnose your possible problem.

That's an interesting IP address. 5 parts? Are you sure that's exactly
what is displayed? if it is, somebody broke the configuration file,
and needs a swift introduction with a boot. If the error message is
more like this:

Error: 111
Message: Connection Refused

Then the problem is likely to be that your IMAP server isn't running.
If you are not the server administrator, you should direct the issues
you are having to them as there is nothing we are able to do.

This sounds like you need to speak to your administrators at the
college. SquirrelMail.org and the people on the squirrelmail-users
list do not manage or support the installation of SquirrelMail you
are using, or the underlying mail systems. The issues you are
having should be directed to the college mail administrators to be
  resolved.

You can create a plugin to do this. Take a look at the login_auto
plugin. You can probably pass some kind of sso key, which can then be
used to retrieve login information for your imap server from a
different source.

The login_auto plugin is a good starting point as it uses cookies to
fetch previous login information, and automagically log them in. You
can probably tweak it just a bit, and instead of using the cookies,
use a _POST or _GET value to get a string id for the authentication.

The advantage of using a plugin is it allows you to move it between
versions without issues, and doesn't require any code patches.

Remove compatibility plugin patch from SquirrelMail functions/strings.php
and downgrade compatibility plugin to 1.3 version.

Nothing set entirely, or is it a space? Or some other character? The
problem looks almost like it is using code it's only supposed to use if
the sign out page is set. Try setting it to something else, or setting
the value to false.
