[SM-USERS] again: Connection terminated unexpectedly

2006-08-03 Thread Marcel van Dorp
Hi List,

I can't find the right answers/solution to this one in the archive, but
perhaps I didn't search good enough. I apologise for that.

I'm using squirrelmail 1.4.4, with courier-imap 3.0.8 and php4.3.10 on
an Debian 3.1 system. All stable software, installed with the package
manager (aptitude). The system is kept up to date on a daily basis.
Squirrelmail and courier-IMAP are on the same server.

Above setup is times 3, for redundancy.

On all 3, all works as expected. HOWEVER:

Installing this on a fourth machine, in exactly the same way, gives me
'connection unexpectedly terminated' when adding/deleting folders.

I've compared the settings of about everything now, but I can't find a
difference, causing this behavior.

I've found some info about the software being unable to determine
protocol/port, and changed that in functions/strings.php (line 257), but
that didn't make any difference.

I even snooped the IMAP conversation (using TCPreen), but that appears
to be working okay.

TCPreen 'sits' between client and server, and logs the TCP data which
passes by. I let it listen on port 1143, and let it forward to port 143.
In squirrelmail I change the port to 1143, and make a connection.

All works, except creating/deleting folders. They are indeed created and
deleted, but the popup shows, and the window is not closed. the IMAP
conversation is exactly as expected.

When I change the setup to use one of the other servers, the problem
persists. If I use eg Thunderbird to connect (from localhost, too), it
works fine, both directly and through TCPreen.

Conclusion: it is a problem in Squirrelmail

Anyone to point me in the right direction?

TIA!

Marcel

[SM-USERS] workaround: Connection terminated unexpectedly

2006-08-03 Thread Marcel van Dorp
Hi List,

After finishing my previous post, someone pointed out to me a difference
in the setup:

On the three working installs, squirrelmail is setup using https and
virtual hosting, while on the fourth it was still the default
apache.conf (just an aliased directory) with http.

I tested more:

default apache.conf:
---
Alias /squirrelmail /usr/share/squirrelmail

  php_flag register_globals off
  Options Indexes FollowSymLinks

DirectoryIndex index.php

  # access to configtest is limited by default
  #to prevent information leak

order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from 127.0.0.1

-
Gives the unexpected terminations

Adding:

  DocumentRoot /usr/share/squirrelmail
  ServerName myhost.foo.bar

And using the new url, does NOT give the unexpected terminations!

I don't know why, but putting things in a virtual host solves things.

I tried other things too, but this change seemed to be the neccesary one.

Hope this helps a lot of other readers of this list!

Marcel

[SM-USERS] final findings: Unexpected terminated connection

2006-08-03 Thread Marcel van Dorp
One final observation:

I use Apache-SSL, and /etc/squirrelmail/apache.conf is included in
httpd.conf

With the default apache.conf, the error occurs.

If I flip SSLDisable to SSLEnable (and moving the webserver to port 443)

Things start working again.

FYI: in httpd.conf (1.2.3.4 replaced with real IP, ofcourse!)

Port 443
Listen 1.2.3.4:80
Listen 1.2.3.4:443
Listen 127.0.0.1:80
Listen 127.0.0.1:443

Finally, I flipped SSLEnable back to SSLDisable, and changed port to
Port 80

and things still work!

Even though the webserver listens to both port 80 and 443, apparently
there *IS* a difference between the Port an Listen directive.

Summary:

Port 443
Listen 1.2.3.4:80
Listen 1.2.3.4:443
SSLDisable
no virtual host
http://myhost.foo.bar/squirrelmail/

Does *NOT* work

Port 443
Listen 1.2.3.4:80
Listen 1.2.3.4:443
SSLDisable
Using a virtual host (on port 80, obviously!)
http://myhost.foo.bar/

Port 80
Listen 1.2.3.4:80
Listen 1.2.3.4:443

Port 443

Using virtual host (on port 443, obviously!)

Still don't know if it's a Squirrelmail or an Apache problem, but this
is as far as I could drill down the cause of the problem.

Hope this helps,

Marcel

[SM-USERS] [Fwd: Your message to squirrelmail-users awaits moderator approval]

2006-08-03 Thread Stefan Moessner
Hi all,

it would be very helpful when the list moderator can approve mails being
too large.

I want to show the result of a query ordered by the user list but when the
mail is being held nobody can help me solving my problem.

I sent this mail for two times. First on July, 31 2006 ans second on
August, 2 2006 and none of these mails are posted.

I send now a mail with a shorter result hoping this is helpful enough.

Stefan
