a) localhost is resolved in /etc/hosts, mail.babbnet.com is resolved in dns.

b) connection to mail.babbnet.com goes through different interface and
some traffic (maybe tcp/113) is dropped by firewall rules.

if you are unprivileged user on server and can change globally used dns
server's without any help from tech support - change your provider.
/etc/resolv.conf is not supposed to be world writable.

[SM-USERS] Cannot create subfolders

2006-05-08 Thread Scott Mayo
When I create a folder and then go to create a subfolder in that folder,
the drop down box 'as a subfolder of' does not contain any of the
folders that I have, so 'none' is my only option.

I played with the setting some, but the one that I saw that looked like
it may be what I wanted, just let a folder contain only subfolders and
that is not what I want.

I am using dovecot and SM 1.4.5. Any idea why it would not let me
created a subfolder?

Thanks.

Sorry, I missed that. This is dovecot 0.99 and the default_mail_env is
left blank. It says that it will try to detect it when this is the
case. I checked through the /doc/mail-storages.txt file, but did not
see anything that I thought may pertain to my problem.

It did say that they support Courier compatible Maildir++, should I
change the imap_server_type to courier then?

Thanks

Or upgrade to 1.4.6. Dovecot namespace differs from courier namespace. It
is strongly recommended to use 'other' for $imap_server_type, if IMAP
server is not supported by your SquirrelMail install. $imap_server_type
setting is used to apply workarounds specific to selected imap server.
There are some courier specific workarounds and they are not needed for
dovecot.

SquirrelMail 1.4.6 settings for Dovecot 0.99 are
 * imap_server_type = dovecot (set to other in 1.4.5)
 * default_folder_prefix = none (is set to empty string)
 * trash_folder = Trash
 * sent_folder = Sent
 * draft_folder = Drafts
 * show_prefix_option = false
 * default_sub_of_inbox = false
 * show_contain_subfolders_option = false
 * optional_delimiter = detect
 * delete_folder = false
 * force_username_lowercase = true

[SM-USERS] SMTP Issue

2006-05-08 Thread markb
I am having some issue getting SM installed with my SMTP server.

I am using OpenBSD 3.8/PHP 4.4/Apache 1.3.x

I have set up SM as the instruction state, but then I run the config test I
get Server Err (2) no such file or directory.

I have tested my smtp through telnet and all is working. I am currently
using the server to send message from Outlook express, so I know it works,
its just SM cant seem to find it.

could you show your SquirrelMail server settings and provide information
about used SquirrelMail version.

conf.pl -> 2. Server settings -> 3.  Sendmail or SMTP

and options displayed after to select conf.pl -> 2. Server settings -> B.
Update SMTP Settings/Update Sendmail config.

I've recently installed Squirrelmail on two virtualised (running Plesk &
Virtuozzo) supposedly identical web servers running FC3. My problem is
that on one server there was a delay of 5-10 seconds in displaying any
pane in Squirrelmail. This same server was initially unable to resolve
any external addresses and was fixed by Tech Support adding another name
server to /etc/resolv.conf . Then it was slow to resolve external
addresses (the same 5-10 seconds) upon doing something like "wget
http://www.google.com", I fixed this myself by changing the DNS servers
in /etc/resolve.cfg to be the same ones as on the trouble-free server.
However Squirrelmail was still exhibiting the 5-10 second delay when
opening panes. By changing the IMAP server that SM uses from
"mail.babbnet.com" to "localhost" I was able to remove this delay.
However I'm conscious the underlying problem is still there and I would
like to work out what is going on. I would like to be able to do
something on the command line to illustrate the problem to Tech Support
(I can't just tell them SM is slow as SM is installed by myself and as
such isn't supported by them) and would ideally like to be able to fix
it myself without waiting for them!

Can anyone see why "mail.babbnet.com" vs. "localhost" would cause this
delay?

a) localhost is resolved in /etc/hosts, mail.babbnet.com is resolved in dns.

b) connection to mail.babbnet.com goes through different interface and
some traffic (maybe tcp/113) is dropped by firewall rules.

if you are unprivileged user on server and can change globally used dns
server's without any help from tech support - change your provider.
/etc/resolv.conf is not supposed to be world writable.

Hi,
I have root access to these servers so there's no problem there! I'm
just trying to work out what I can do to illustrate this problem to
tech support, it's no use telling them how the problem manifests itself
in Squirrel Mail as they don't support this seeing as I've installed it
myself.

How could I replicate the slow resolution of mail.babbnet.com on the
command line?

Thanks!
Geoff

replace 'localhost' with 'mail.babbnet.com' or ip address and time code
execution ('time php test.php'). 143 is port number. If you use TLS,
prefix host name with 'tls://' and change port number.

Re: [SM-USERS] SMTP Issue

2006-05-08 Thread Tomas Kuliavas
php fsockopen gets SOCKET_ENOENT error. It is not a normal error for tcp
connection. If tcp connection fails, error should be SOCKET_ECONNREFUSED
(Connection refused) or SOCKET_ETIMEDOUT (Connection timeout)

something is blocking access to smtp server or your os uses SOCKET_ENOENT
error code to report tcp connection errors.

Re: [SM-USERS] SMTP Issue

2006-05-08 Thread Tomas Kuliavas
1. dns resolution is not working in your install. Try using ip address.

2. you forgot to create /var/www/tmp directory with correct permissions or
forgot about apache chroot when you set php session.save_path to
/var/www/tmp.

Please use SquirrelMail mailing list for SquirrelMail support questions.

Blank page always means PHP errors. If not in your logs, your php.ini

Re: [SM-USERS] Help With Change_SQLPass

2006-05-08 Thread Paul Lesniewski

Hello,
This is what's on my log file regarding sqlpass:
[05-May-2006 10:32:23] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function:
escapesimple() in
/usr/share/squirrelmail2/plugins/change_sqlpass/functions.php on line 736

Please learn how to reply in context (don't top-post please). This
error is semi-common Pear problem. Please use Google or mailing list
search tool to look for this error (not just on SquirrelMail lists).

I've recently installed Squirrelmail on two virtualised (running Plesk
&
Virtuozzo) supposedly identical web servers running FC3. My problem is
that on one server there was a delay of 5-10 seconds in displaying any
pane in Squirrelmail. This same server was initially unable to resolve
any external addresses and was fixed by Tech Support adding another
name
server to /etc/resolv.conf .

"localhost" would cause this
delay?

a) localhost is resolved in /etc/hosts, mail.babbnet.com is resolved in
dns.

b) connection to mail.babbnet.com goes through different interface and
some traffic (maybe tcp/113) is dropped by firewall rules.

if you are unprivileged user on server and can change globally used dns
server's without any help from tech support - change your provider.
/etc/resolv.conf is not supposed to be world writable.

Hi,
I have root access to these servers so there's no problem there! I'm
just trying to work out what I can do to illustrate this problem to tech
support, it's no use telling them how the problem manifests itself in
Squirrel Mail as they don't support this seeing as I've installed it
myself.

How could I replicate the slow resolution of mail.babbnet.com on the
command line?

replace 'localhost' with 'mail.babbnet.com' or ip address and time code
execution ('time php test.php'). 143 is port number. If you use TLS,
prefix host name with 'tls://' and change port number.

Thanks for that, it gives localhost: 0.0099411010742188 and
mail.babbnet.com: 5.2097821235657
Hopefully this simplified illustration of the problem should be good
enough for Tech Support to fix the problem.

Thanks,
Geoff

[SM-USERS] Can't stop forwarding mail to alternate address!

2006-05-08 Thread Lindsay Steffes
Hello,
I set up my squirrelmail account years ago to foward all incoming mail to
my alternate email address, which I no longer want to use. For the life of
me I thought that originally I went into "options" and set the new forward
address under "Vacation message". Well the "Vacation message" option no
longer is accessable to me or I am not looking in the right spot. Can
someone please help me?
Thanks, Lindsay

check ip address connection times (212.241.195.198 and 127.0.0.1) and see
what happens when you add mail.babbnet.com to /etc/hosts. Make sure that
mail.babbnet.com is resolved to local address and not to some remote
server.
