[SM-USERS] Re: Could not create Hash directory (linux + apache this time)

2005-04-08 Thread Daniel Watts

I know this was brought up for an IIS user but I'm having the problem
with apache.

Sqm: 1.4.4
PHP 4.3.10
Apache 2.0
Error:
Error creating directory
/home/virtual/domain.com/var/www/squirrelmail-data/5.
Could not create hashed directory structure!
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

This is the directory structure:
drwxr-xr-x  3 rootroot4096 Apr  7 14:17 squirrelmail
drwxr-xr-x  2 apache  apache  4096 Apr  6 19:00 squirrelmail-attachments
drwxr-xr-x  2 apache  apache  4096 Apr  7 17:13 squirrelmail-data
As you can see apache owns and has full priviliges to squirrelmail-data
What else should i be checking here?
Thanks!
Daniel

bump? please? =)

Paul - thanks for your help.
The path is /home/virtual/domain.com/var/www/squirrelmail-data
Anything at www or below is root owned:
drwxr-xr-x  9 root   root   4096 Apr  7 14:16 www
Everything above is apache owned [see above]
Does the full path have to be owned by apache all the way down? I don't
think I can do this...
I'm not an linux expert but I'm sure that that does not need to be the
case...otherwise that means apache would have to own the root directory
as well =)

Feature is not implemented in autosubscribe v.1.0. It was in my plans for
v.1.1, but since it is implemented in squirrelmail 1.5.x configuration and
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=794323&group_id=311&atid=300311
 tracker is closed, I have switched to working on other issues.

[SM-USERS] issues SM 1.4.4: not shown eMail, courier IMAP INBOX, subject-encoding

2005-04-08 Thread mac
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1
hi there,
i do have some issues with the version 1.4.4; let's start with the
important one:
(details of my setup at the end of the mail)

1. new mail ist sometimes not shown
i wasn't able to reproduce this problem, but my wife an a friend, who
are using my SM-installtion do have problems with certain new emails.
the simply don't show up and if they use their own mailclients like
Mail.app there are new mails that the SM did not show. but after
opening the mail with such a client the emails show up in SM as well!
i have startet to use SM more often on my frequent mailaccount to
reproduce this problem, but it maybe something with the browser (both
used the internet explorer, but in different versions).

i only need to know the direction to look at and i'll be happy to bring
more info around.

2. courier imap
the imap_server_type is courier and it has been configured over
config.pl, but all folders come as subfolders of INBOX.

3. subject-encoding
SM seems to be al little sctrict with encoding like this:
=?iso-8859-1?Q?[INFO] f=FCr ein Subject=?=
i know, that it should be like this:
=?iso-8859-1?Q?[INFO]_f=FCr_ein_Subject=?=
but there are buggy clients around that create the upper version
is there a chance to make SM a bit more "tolerant" in this part? :-)
my setup-info (if something more is requred - let me know):
squirrelmail 1.4.4
$config_version = '1.4.0';
$squirrelmail_default_language = 'de_DE';
$default_charset   = 'iso-8859-1';
$imap_server_type   = 'courier';
$invert_time= false;
$optional_delimiter = '.';
$default_folder_prefix  = 'INBOX.';
$trash_folder   = 'Trash';
$sent_folder= 'Sent';
$draft_folder   = 'Drafts';
$plugins[0] = 'retrieveuserdata';
$plugins[1] = 'spamcop';
$plugins[2] = 'translate';
$plugins[3] = 'newmail';

[SM-USERS] mail filtering

2005-04-08 Thread Nabin Limbu
Hi,

Can we have mail filtering in squirrelmail, so that we can make a rule to
forward each message to reach in desired folder.

Yes.

p.s. It's been included in the SM distribution since 1.2. Look for
'filters'.

I fail to understand why people intentionally try to piss off the
developers of the software they are using for free. The very people they
need to turn to in order to get knowledge, fixes and upgrades. Did you
even realize that one of the 'fine people' who's 'drivel' you don't like
is a Main Developer? I'd say that gives him free reign to say anything
he pleases and if _we_ don't like it we're the ones that should filter
appropriately. He owes us nothing and was making the point that the
information that this user asked to be given, without any effort on his
part, was available in many of the other self-service support mechanisms
that _should_ have been checked first. This is even more important since
he has chosen to run bleeding edge development software that will be
broken.

People who attempt to help themselves are much more valuable and worthy
of helpful answers than leeches who expect it all handed to them.

List of files in squirrelmail locale/fr_CA/LC_MESSAGES directory?

Can you get any stock translation working? In order to get working
translation, you don't have to switch entire server to selected language.
It only has to support locale used by selected translation, when php
gettext extension is enabled.

Do you have strace or some similar utility and php command line utility?

Absolutely!

But, after that's been explained once (or more) to apparent self-helpless
person and the thread rapidly degenerates to emotional name calling, etc..
this message becomes lost and is as useless as the original lame (maybe)
request for help. Who the people are does not matter, esp. if they are
feeding the trolls.

Cheers,

It's the way folder listing is displayed in 1.4.x. These folders are
subfolders of INBOX. See 1.5.x if you want to have them aligned at the
same level.

Do you want the lines numbers from RFC that say "space MUST be encoded"?
Or lecture about following Internet standards.

I think 6 or more months ago somebody posted modification that fixes it.
Not sure if it was on sm-users or on sm-i18n or some other sm list.

[SM-USERS] I can't get SquirrelSpell to work on OpenBSD 3.5

2005-04-08 Thread Stephen D. Sloan Jr
I've read the docs, searched the archives and google, but I just can't
seem to get squirrelspell working on my server. I've tried to configure
it based on the install instructions for both ispell and aspell but
neither works. I am getting some errors in the log file, which I will
include below. When checking for spelling errors I always get "No
errors found" even though there are obvious ones.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I know I need to upgrade my OS,
Apache, and PHP versions, but I think I do meet the minimum requirements
for SquirrelMail and SquirrelSpell. Everything else seems to work fine.

Here is my environment:
OS = OpenBSD 3.5
SquirrelMail = 1.4.4
SquirrelSpell = 0.3.1
PHP = (From OBSD ports) 4.3.5RC3
Apache = 1.3.29
Aspell = (From OBSD ports) 0.50.4.1p1
Ispell = (From OBSD ports) 3.2.06
Here are the errors that I am seeing in /var/www/logs/error_log when I
use the plugin:

I tried testing my aspell executable and it works:

PHP safe mode is turned off in php.ini:
"safe_mode = Off"
I'm not using Apache chrooted. My "/etc/rc.conf" configuration for
Apache is:

My www user is set to shell "/sbin/nologin", though I tried setting it
to "/bin/sh" with no difference.

[SM-USERS] SuSE POP & IMAP

2005-04-08 Thread jam
G'Day

With a vanilla install of SuSE (9.0, 9.1, 9.2) SquirrelMail does not
work. The reason is that they have configured pop/imap to not allow
plain-text passwords.

I fixed the problem by grabbing the imap source rpm from RedHat 9, where
it does work, compiling that and using the pop3d and imapd from the
compile.

What is the correct way to solve the problem (which I guess will be
forever more) ie they will continue to not allow plain text passwds.

Thanks
James

I'm just bringing this worthwhile thread back to life. PHP accelerators
are obvoiusly of hugh import to squirrelmail admins/users. I am
currently running PHPA and, whilst it does help, I'm not sure how it
will cope as I scale upwards.

Is MMCache still buggy with 4.3.10 (or .11)?

Whilst we are on about performance improvers, what other things should
we suggest people use to help squeeze performance? I for one am
currenlty using IMAPProxy which works a charm.

Here are my stats for imapproxy:

  Server Start Time: Mon Apr 4 08:48:31 2005

 Last Counter Reset Time: Mon Apr 4 08:48:31 2005

 CLIENT CONNECTIONS

current: 0 peak:11

 ACTIVE SERVER CONNECTIONS

current: 0 peak:10

 CACHED SERVER CONNECTIONS

current:18 peak:   123

 CONNECTION TOTALS

client connections accepted:283875

client logins:  283259

server connections created:  33776

server connection reuses:   249483

client login to server login ratio: 8.39 : 1

It really helps when moving from one email in a folder to the next.
Instant responses.

One downside to this is the fact that you have to change your
squrirelmail config file to point to the port that imapproxy listens on.
What would be nice would be if we could get squirrelmail to have a
fallback port of the default imap port. Then if imapproxy ever crashed
squirrelmail would continue using normal imap connections.
(new thread started for this topic actually!).

Best,
Daniel

I'm assuming that is really a typo? Otherwise that's one really old
version of Courier to be running on such a new server.

> Squirrelmail and apache are on the same box,

SquirrelMail requires a web server, as apache is a web server, that'd
be a fairly obvious assumption to begin with ;) I'm assuming you
meant that SquirrelMail and Courier IMAP are on the same server?

Do you have the exact error message? You might want to check MAXPERIP
as suggested by Ean as courier can limit the number of connections per
IP address, which in this case, SquirrelMail, will always be
localhost, or the IP address of your NIC. This might need to be
increased to a higher number, if set. An IMAP proxy server is a good
idea too as it helps reduce the load.

Without knowing how the internals of Dovecot work, a rough
understanding of mbox files is useful... It is simply the messages,
with a special line signifying write time, and separator. Dovecot
probably requires read access to the file before it can write as it
probably uses a "safety net" for things like drive space issues, quota
issues, etc... I'm not sure if you could just setup the permissions on
the file as you have. Have you tried the dovecot list, as this is
where the question is more likely to get a better answer?

No, just has to be able to get in there, that can be done without
owning the directories above, chmod o+rx should do it...
I didn't see you confirm that the apache service is running as apache,
try changing the permissions so world has read/write permissions (777)
on the directory, and see if that helps?

Also, are you sure that apache isn't running in a chroot environment?
If you have specified the full path in the configuration, and apache
is chroot'd, it will cause issues there.
