Re: [SM-USERS] very upset and angry that my mail has been destroyed

2004-09-15 Thread Terry Allen
Hi Cheryl,
It is obvious you have a problem with your ISP - the place to
email on this occasion is your ISP, not the Squirrelmail mailing
list, which goes out to hundreds of users of the Squirrelmail web
email software who will have/know nothing about your problem.
Squirrelmail does not delete mail in the way you have described, it
is likely some antivirus software which has done so, in which case,
your ISP is still the place to vent your anger. I hope this helps.

i am not paying for an internet service provider to destroy email i
have every right to receive and read in it's entirety. the
destruction of my mail is totally unacceptable. it was becauser i
thought i could save them in their entirety until i could download
the pictures to my computer. you have cheated me out of hours of
emailing time and pictures i had every right to save. if you cannot
correct the problem then i want the names of 3 internet providers or
email programs that do not destroy their customers mail. first they
were picked up as spam and stripped of the attachemnts. yes i am
very hot and angry that you illegally destroyed my mail by tampering
with it. it is to bad i can't take the case to court because i
certainly would do so. i understand the concern for viruses. why not
connect an antivirus program to the server to check mail as it comes
to it before being forwarded on. i am a disabled woman and my
computer should bring me hours of joy but it has been nothing but
one problem after another. you are the fourth or fifth company i
have had to fight with in the last three years over computer related
issues. please correct this problem or lose my business. sincerely

[SM-USERS] Problem to run 1.4.3a

2004-09-15 Thread Alexander Maringer
Hello list,

Stable-Leads, Erin the Dev-Lead said I should write this.

I tried to install the 1.4.3a on a Suse 9.0 Linux-server.
I always get a download-link to download the index.php. After hours of
trying to find the error, I installed the 1.4.1 and everything worked
without changing anything.
So I change all permissions and ownerships of 1.4.3a, that it is equal to
1.4.1, but I got again the download-link.
So I tried the 1.5.1 dev, and with this version, I had also no problem.

my configuration:
Suse 9.0
Apache/2.0.48 (Linux/SuSE)
php 4.3.8
Courier-IMAP 2.1.1

The php-options:
openbasedir to the install and data[extern] directories, safe mode on,
phptemp-directory

Greetings

http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.unix.apache2.php

See step 14 and 15.

If apache does not process php files, php was not installed correctly.

If you install squirrelmail 1.4.1 rpm from SuSE updates, you are using
package that was designed for SuSE. If you use squirrelmail 1.4.3 rpm from
squirrelmail site, you are using rpm designed for RedHat.

Don't mix suse and redhat rpms. SuSE might use same packaging program but
some paths are different.

I didn't install the rpm. I always install the .tgz And how would you
explain that different versions with the same permissions, configuration and
ownership behave different?
The php is self-compiled. So,let's talk about the version 1.4.3a and 1.5.1.
I installed both from sf.net, one as the newest cvs-version the other as the
stable release. 1.5.1 worked fine, 1.4.3a let me download the index.php. I
think that there must be something wrong in the code.

Thanks a lot

There is such a tool available as a plugin, but it requires that you use a
database backend for storing addresses. Maybe it'll suit your needs.

Take a look at the vlogin plugin. That'll handle that issue.

I don't know of any method to stop this really. I guess you could
remove the domain part, and attempt to put the domain_two.de on the
end instead, and give them a bad login page.

I just installed the 1.4.3a code from the .tgz on my FreeBSD system and it
seams to be working just fine. This was an upgrade from 1.4.2 on the same
web server and php. I doubt it is a code problem.

absolutely not. be careful making accusations like that when it is
probably your server config. this is a typical problem when php is
either misinstalled or your web server is misconfigured and has
nothing to do with "the code". if you are so sure it's a problem with
the code (it's not), put your own php file in the same directory and try
to access it. something like:

hello world";
?>

vlogin allows you to stop this behavior and get exactly what you want,
but you need to carefully follow the instructions in the README file.
Please read it carefully before posting for help.

Re: [SM-USERS] Filters question

2004-09-15 Thread Brian Meehan
I put the patch into the filters.php file and it appears that things work
more quickly now when sorting mail in folders and such. I have slightly
less than two screens worth of Filter rules (perhaps 25 filters, more or
less), and I get less of a pause while the sort is done.

Thanks!

I think there is a plugin for this where you can restrict logins to
particular usernames. I expect you would need to set the list of banned
users in vlogin and customise the banned username plugin to look up the
site-specific variable from vlogin depending on $SERVER_NAME.

Re: [SM-USERS] On creation of new folders old folders disappear

2004-09-15 Thread p dont think

I put $org_title = "test"; (and something similar for $org_name)
on top of the config.php for multilogin so it would not be dependant on the
server.
org_title won't change unless you reload the top frameset.
org_name is not displayed anywhere on the folders prefs page.
I also tried it by checking the check box with the label "remember login
server". So I would be using the same server whenever I reloaded the page.
that only affects your login prefs
Was this sufficient?
no. you need to change something that will be immediately obvious when
you try to execute the creation of a new folder. if you reexplain the
exact steps taken to cause this bug, I will try to see if I can make it
happen. Also include version info again if you would.

THanks,
paul

Jerry,

The multilogin plugin is definitely not overriding the default i
configuration. As you surmised. It definitly worked however in 1.5.0.
What should be done next?
How do you know multilogin is working in that instance? What did you do

wisemail vlogin configuration isn't being loaded, and it falls back
on the original configuration.
[..]

I think it has something to do with the $default_folder_prefix,
which is mail. And is created for some reason when I create a
folder on wisemail. (As I wrote, mail/../.)

I hope I passed all the needed information.
Yes, much better. I assume it is connecting to the correct server?
How about changing so you can clearly see it is loading the right
server, for example, add:
'org_name'  =%2

AW: AW: [SM-USERS] Problem to run 1.4.3a

2004-09-15 Thread Alexander Maringer
OK, but how do you want to explain the fact, that if I change only change
the versions (the files) and left all directories, that then everything
works? At this moment there is only a change in the code, not in permissions
or anything else.

absolutely not. be careful making accusations like that when it is probably
your server config. this is a typical problem when php is either
misinstalled or your web server is misconfigured and has nothing to do
with "the code". if you are so sure it's a problem with the code (it's
not), put your own php file in the same directory and try to access it.
something like:

hello world"; ?>

Version 0.50 drops the requirement of a database. If you don't specify
one then flat files are used.

cvs snapshot contains configuration file, package does not have one.

apache can have different directory settings in httpd.conf

we don't know what is broken on your server. we don't know list of plugin
that you might have installed.

enable display_errors in php.ini, set error_reporting to E_ALL. Check what
kind of errors you get.

Re: [SM-USERS] Re: Login Page customizing

2004-09-15 Thread p dont think
First Problem:
I want to customize the Startpage (loginpage) with my own Banner and
content.
But i have on a single machine different Domains running.
Example: domain_one.de/webmail/src/login.php should have another
Logindesign
as domain_two.de/webmail/src/login.php.
Does anyone know how and where i have to make changes to do this?

Could one replace the current login.php source to basically do a test on
the $SERVER_NAME variable and redirect to custom made login1.php or
login2.php etc?
You could, but if you really need a fully custom login page, why not
make it part of your web site per the embedded login instructions...
branching back out from the login page is working backwards.

Second Problem:
Any User with email like [EMAIL PROTECTED] can use the loginpage
domain_two.de
But i want this to seperate, any Ideas?

I think there is a plugin for this where you can restrict logins to
particular usernames. I expect you would need to set the list of banned
users in vlogin and customise the banned username plugin to look up the
site-specific variable from vlogin depending on $SERVER_NAME.
The lockout plugin is probably not what this person wants, but even if
so, there is no need to use it with vlogin. I think this poster should
instead use the settings in vlogin that strip the domain info from any
username logins and re-add the URL domain back to the username, thus
forcing users to log in at their domain -- no need to define a list of
"banned users"

D'oh of course. (This is what I do!).
Just remember to include the javascript-is-on test function in your

[SM-USERS] Hairr pulling not helping to configure SM on NT

2004-09-15 Thread ARC Support
I have been trying to get SM 1.4.3a running on NT4 SP6 with Apache 2.0.50,
php 5.0.1 & Mercury 4.0.1a. I've followed every hint I've been able to glean
from various info sites and there just isn't any doccumentation covering the
new releases of SM, Apache, php and Mercury. What I run into when calling
index.php from my smail directory (which resides in c:/
Apache/Apache2/htdocs) is:

Warning: main(SMail/functions/strings.php) [function.main]: failed to open
stream: No such file or directory in
C:\Apache\Apache2\htdocs\SMail\src\login.php on line 19

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required
'SMail/functions/strings.php' (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in
C:\Apache\Apache2\htdocs\SMail\src\login.php on line 19

If I use absolute paths instead of the SM_PATH constant I get further.
Although I haven't gone all the way and put absolute paths throughout every
document, it seems it might work if I would. But, that isn't the goal, the
goal is to use the path constant ( define('SM_PATH','SMail/'); ) for ease of
configuration, and, as I understand it, absolute paths slow the process way
down.

Now, line 19 of the login.php calls:
require_once(SM_PATH . 'functions/strings.php');.
Using the absolute path it finds the file and the error message moves on to
the next line, and so-on. When I put in an absolute path, I can keep moving
ahead.

I've tried using an absolute path for the constant, I.E.:
define('SM_PATH','c:/Apache/Apache2/htdocs/SMail/'); and I get access
violations. I have tried to make the smail directory shared with full rights
for everyone (I know, security risk) to no avail. At least with the constant
set to 'SM_PATH','SMail/' I get the above error msg (I have all reporting
turned on, another security issue)

It seems there may be a permissions issues, but isn't htdocs owned by Apache
already? And how to set permissions in NT other than what I've already
tried? I'll make my entire configuration details available to anybody
willing to help. HELP!!

Change it back to what it was and start from there. All configuration

Good luck,

Re: [SM-USERS] Hairr pulling not helping to configure SM on NT

1) Please try not to top-post, thanks.
2) Reply to the list, not me personally. Others may want to see how
this thread gets resolved - share your free help with the rest of the
'net. :)

Thank you for the response. I really may be stupid, sometimes my wife thinks
so anyway, but I think the current path definition IS the default as
installed. It is:
/* Path for SquirrelMail required files. */
define('SM_PATH','SMail/');
What file did you find this in? This is NOT standard. Someone else
changed this, not us. Depending on what file this is, it should be:

define('SM_PATH','../');
or
define('SM_PATH','../../');
 - paul
Now, I may have missed something or done something dumb and that is not
supposed to be the default. I'd love to find out I screwed up something so
easy to correct. Based on the information I have provided, should this be
the proper path? If not, what SHOULD it be??
Thanks - M

Now, line 19 of the login.php calls:
require_once(SM_PATH . 'functions/strings.php');.
Using the absolute path it finds the file and the error message moves on
to
the next line, and so-on. When I put in an absolute path, I can keep
moving
ahead.
I've tried using an absolute path for the constant, I.E.:
define('SM_PATH','c:/Apache/Apache2/htdocs/SMail/'); and I get access
violations. I have tried to make the smail directory shared with full
rights
for everyone (I know, security risk) to no avail. At least with the
constant
set to 'SM_PATH','SMail/' I get the above error msg (I have all reporting
turned on, another security issue)

Change it back to what it was and start from there. All configuration
should be done in conf.pl or config.php if you are confident you know
what you're doing.
Good luck,
  Paul

Re: [SM-USERS] Hairr pulling not helping to configure SM on NT

2004-09-15 Thread p dont think
Again, please direct replies to the mailing list.
I owe you a million apologies, please allow this to be the first.
In looking at the archive, I see this is the path definition as default:
define('SM_PATH','../');
This gives me an error message on my NT server to wit: Exception: Access
Violation (blah, blah blah)
Again, I have the folder shared by everyone with full rights. This is why I
fiddled with the path definition, at least with the path as stated in my
original post I can generate the errors as also stated in my original post.
Someone running a Windoze server may be able to chime in, but basically,
your server isn't configured to resolve relative paths correctly or
there are permissioning problems (possibly not inherited?) that you
still haven't fixed. The code should be left alone; the problem is your
server config.

I'm glad it appears somebody has been reading the archives ;)
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about your space issue.
You'll have to take up the issue with the people that host your email
accounts. The SquirrelMail development team, not the
squirrelmail-users list, have nothing to do with that. The only
suggestion I can come up with is what you've already tried. However
there is a possibility that the people running your mail server have
configured it to move all expunged mail to the trash folder. This will
not be something we can control either unfortunately, and is something
you'll have to take up with your provider.
