Please read what you posted. Why would you think for a second that this
is a bug in SquirrelMail? You changed servers, and now you don't have the
fortune program installed.

[SM-USERS] SMTP Auth

2004-01-07 Thread Greg Cormier
Title: Message

Hi. My SMTP server
that my ISP provides requires a username and password to send mail, which is
obviously different from the users on my system.

Is there any patch
that allows me to specify a username and password to use when
authenticating?

Thanks
Greg

It's in CVS. Set $sitewide_smtp_username and $sitewide_smtp_password in
config_local.php.

Did you log in with a different capitalization?

For example: two weeks ago, you logged in as 'someuser' and today you used
'Someuser'? If so, you need to go into conf.pl and find the option to
force usernames to lowercase.

are all your preferences lost? maybe you logged in differently.. is your
username exactly as you typed it before? If you previously typed it all in
lower case and now you are typing even one letter in upper case, that can
be the problem.

Unless previously you were logging in with uppercase and now today you are
mistakenly using lowercase. If thats the case then if you force usernames
to lowercase you will never be able to login with your old preferences.

And if that's the case, set force usernames to lowercase = true, then go
into you data directory and delete the all-lowercase preferences, and
rename the capitalized preference file to all-lowercase. Voila, the
problem won't occur in the future and you have your old preferences.
Really, this isn't hard..

[SM-USERS] Squirrelmail LDAP lookup not working

2004-01-07 Thread Jamie Davey
Hello all

I have recently installed squirrelmail 1.2.6 on a debian platform.
Everything is working fine with the exception of LDAP lookups. I have
run the config script and entered the hostname & base dn (the rest of
the options are all set to default) but doing an address lookup when
composing a mail doesn't appear to do anything at all.

I have checked the logs on both the web server and the LDAP server and
neither report any failures or attempted connections on port 389. The
"No persons matching your search was found" error pops up almost
immediately so I can only assume that squirrelmail isn't actually trying
to connect to the LDAP server.

Is there a page of instructions that I am missing?? I'd really
appreciate any guidance anyone could offer on configuring this.

Thanks in advance
Jamie Davey

Is php4-ldap package installed?
Do you have ldap module enabled in php config?
Is ldap backend listed in search options?

[SM-USERS] Server Time

2004-01-07 Thread Cory Loken
Is there a way to have SquirrelMail use a time offset from the system
time? I have a server in the US and is primarily used by users in the
US. But it also hosts SquirrelMail that is only accessed in Japan. All
mail is tagged with a US time stamp. Is there an easy why to implement
an offset?

Thanks,

You will see it only when php is not in safe mode or TZ variable can be

[SM-USERS] Message Filters Daemon

2004-01-07 Thread Mark Courtney
Does anything exist that might be a daemonized version SM's Message
Filters? Something that would apply the filters without using SM? That
way when I have to use a POP3 client, I only get the messages that are
regularly in the Inbox and not the messages that are supposed to be
filtered my SM.

Thanks Listers

[SM-USERS] Using SM in conjunction with IMAP or POP client

2004-01-07 Thread James Marcinek
Hello everyone,

I have a question to ask. I've been running SM (with Sendmail) for several
months now, using SSL. My intent is to use Squirrel Mail to access email
on the internet and use an email client on the intranet (as I have these
ports closed on the firewall). Can this be done, keeping the folders and
everything that a user has customized to contain their emails with
Squirrel Mail?

Thanks,

James

[SM-USERS] Using LDAP or Mysql for database...

2004-01-07 Thread James Marcinek
Hello All,

I'm trying to determine what is the best method for implementing a
multi-user address book. I've played around with LDAP a bit. After I
thought I had it started, I couldn't figure out how to get it working, so
instead of wasting a lot of time with the LDAP, I wanted to find out if it
would be better using a MySQL database to keep addresses (hopefully set up
appointments and stuff too).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

James

Mercury32 does not support the IMAP quota command, it will not report any
information. If the web server has direct access to the user's home
directories then you could write a script that finds the size of the
user's mail directory and use that.

Yes. Use an IMAP client. The folders in squirrelmail are merely IMAP
folders, nothing special, so they'll be available too.

[SM-USERS] squirrelmail or php sessions problem?

2004-01-07 Thread ircd
Hi, kinda new to this list, wondering if anyone else has experienced a
problem similar to this, I'm just about tired of trying to figure it out
:)I have 3 installs of squirrelmail, though I'm not sure this is directly
affecting what is happening - every now and then, say once or twice a week
- User 1 is logged in, active etc - then user 2 logs in, same domain, or
different - doesn't really have an effect - but when user2 logs in, it
takes user1's session and seemingly overwrites it, so if you refresh
user1's session, bam you have all of user2's emails etc as if it was a
session hijack, when it isn't - I've had this happen with 2 operating
systems,(OpenBSD 3.3/3.4 and FreeBSD 5.1/5.2-RC2) and can't seem to find a
solution as it only occurs intermittently...but when it does, it is
obviously a huge security risk - I know php stores all session files in
tmp, but I figured they were random enough to not actually effect each
other - anyone else experience anything similar? is this some simple
misconfig on my behalf? any help of course is greatly appreciated...

This isn't too uncommon... If you read the archives, you'll see it
comes up from time to time. It is inherently a PHP issue, but I am
working on a scheme to work around the issue. All I can suggest is
logoff user 1, then logon as user 2... or close the browser, and
reopen it to logon as the second user.

You wouldn't have to keep tabs on who is who etc. You just close the
browser when you're done. This issue should only come up when you're
using the same computer to login from. If you can just remember to
logout/close browser when you're done... then everything should be
good. At least until I've implemented the code I'm working on.

2004-01-07 Thread Jay Lee
Verify that you have the php-ldap module enabled. To do this:

 1. Create a test.php file in your webroot
 2. Add the following text to the file:

 3. From a browser go to http://yourserver/test.php, you should get a
whole bunch of information about PHP.
 4. Verify that PHP LDAP support is enabled by searching for "LDAP
Support"
 5. If it is not enabled you will need to either edit your php.ini
file and uncomment the ldap module or recompile PHP with ldap
support.

If LDAP is enabled and it's still not working, verify your LDAP settings
and see if you can view the LDAP server logs to see where the failure is.

Also, I'd highly recommend you move up to the latest 1.4.2 release of
Squirrelmail.

I have safe mode off (and have never turned it on) but still don't see
this option. Is there something else I should be looking for?

Thanks Again.

You will see it only when php is not in safe mode or TZ variable can be

[SM-USERS] timezone setting

2004-01-07 Thread fw
Can a user set their own timezone preferences relating to the header
message info?

The server is in one timezone but the client is in another. it is correct
but the user has to know to add/subtract the differences.

[SM-USERS] Continuing Folder problems :(

2004-01-07 Thread squirrelmail

OK,

I did the things suggested, and they worked for those folk who I had troubles with. *BUT* :)

Now, if I log on as a user who I had not tested (i.e. I logged on as "me", kevin, anthony and had those extra things show up...) there is only the INBOX folder. No sent, trash, drafts etc. *scratching head*.

Is there a help of some sort for the config? I'm being obtuse and it feels awfull to keep coming here and asking basic questions. *cry*.

I'll be setting all of this up on our new production server soon, so I need to iron out the kinks pretty soon. *heavy sigh*

Thanks in advance for the help. :)

This looks like a misconfiguration. Run config/conf.pl and make sure

your IMAP settings are correct. I'm assuming you're using Courier-IMAP,

so select D, then type in courier. Then login. You can then go to the

Folders page, and remove the extra folders that shouldn't be there.

using two different browsers has reportedly solved the problem before, too
(IE vs Mozilla, for instance)

[SM-USERS] Squirrelmail forwarding causes major embarassment!

2004-01-07 Thread Mark London
A user at our site received a message that was formatted with
different fonts, so that squirrelmail shows the original message as a
text attachment. This user wanted to edit the message and then
forward it to a large mailing list. He selected forward, and then
edited the message, but neglected to notice that the original message
was AUTOMATICALLY added as an text attachment, probably because they
didn't scroll to the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, he edited
out sensitive material that remained in the attachment, so all the
users on the mailing list received it, and I was forced to run around
our site and find all the recipients and delete the message before
they read it.

It does not make sense that Forward both includes the original
message as an attachment, and also puts it, indented, into the "text"
window that the user is editing. Replying to a message with
formatted text does not automatically include such an attachment, so
why should Forward? When a message is forwarded with such an
attachment, the text in the attachment does not appear inline when
mail clients read the forwarded message, so the recipient doesn't see
it without opening the attachment. Very inconvenient, especially if
it basically just contains text. Has this issue been previously
discussed? If a person wants to forward the original message and
save the formatting, then they could select the "Forward as
attachment" command, which will forward the message in it's original
format, and it will appear inline in mail clients such as eudora,
making it easy for the recipient to read. The Forward command,
logically, should therefore do the opposite of "Forward as
attachment".

However, to save the present functionality, Forward could include an
option for such a message, that allows the person to select to attach
the message with it's "original" formatting. However, IMHO, it
should not be the default.

[SM-USERS] Stuck on squirrelmail pluggins - mail fwd and vacation

2004-01-07 Thread Vincent Carter

I facing some problems during configuring
squirrelmail plugins, which are mail forwarding and vacation.software
using:Solaris 2.9, Squirrelmail-1.4.2, Courier-mta-0.44.2(with plain
userdb),PHP-4.3.4 with enable-ftpsquirrelmail Plugins
using:mail_fwd.0.4.0-1.2.11 and vacation_1.41_1.41. Mail forwarding
- I have installed and compiled the plugin properly. But when I configured an
email address to be forwarding in webmail, it doesn't work at all. I have
checked mail logs, no any error messages. I checked the user $home directory, no
.forward file found. I did configure etc/'courierd' to:||
/usr/lib/courier/bin/dotforward./MaildirAnything I miss out?2.
Vacation - This plugin required ftp service. Due to im using plain userdb, I
have no idea how to use IMAP match to plain userdb username and password.
Therefore, Im having authentication problem here. Anyone know about
this?Many thanks.Regards,Vincent

[SM-USERS] Blank Redirect page

2004-01-07 Thread lonlyboy
Squirrelmail was working just fine. All of a sudden when it stopped working
so nicely. I can get the login screen, no problem. But when you submit it
shows it looking for the redirect page and then says done. All you get is a
blank page. I have tried rebooting my server with no luck. Is this a bug or
just a bad setting? If it is a setting why did it work for so long then out
of the blue, just quit?? This is affecting everyone that checks there mail
this way on my server.

Thanks

Rob

[SM-USERS] setuid on in squirrelmail 1.4.2-1

2004-01-07 Thread Douglas Campbell

Message: 1

Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2004 13:58:04 -0500
Subject: [SM-USERS] Why is the group SUID bit set on 1.4.2?
This would appear to be a security risk. I don't see any reason for it and
1.4.1 didn't have this set.

Is this required, or was someone being naughty?

Please reply directly.

-Szii

I also noticed this a few days ago. I am using squirrelmail 1.4.2-1, downloaded
from squirrelmail.org site; I am
running it under RedHat 8.0 with all patches applied. The previous version of
squirrelmail was deleted prior to
installing this one.
Here is a sample directory listing, in response to someone's post in reply to the
above. It appears that the
directories are the only things affected in my case. I installed it as root; should I
change ownership?
