[SM-USERS] Running conf.pl and patching SM

2003-06-13 Thread peace
Do I need a specific software to run conf.pl? I tried using the
browser but it says I need to use the command line. I also tried
using the execute function in my ftp software but only got a copy of
the conf.pl file saved on my desktop.

Also, some plugins ask that I "patch" the SM source. What does
patching SM mean? I will appreciate your response. Thanks.

[SM-USERS] config.php file not being read properly

2003-06-13 Thread Piotr Redo
I've changed the config.php file by having run the conf.pl script -
I changed the provider name as well as the link to the provider, and
also enabled a plugin. Then I saved the data and quit.
Whenever I login however, none of these changes appear - the provider
name is still squirrelmail, the link is still the same, and the plug in
is also not enabled (it did not need any extra configuration).
Any hints anyone?

Many thanks,
Peter

We're looking into templating, at which point something like this
should be fairly easy to implement with tweaking a template.

Yes, Perl.

You don't execute it via FTP, or the browser, you run it from a shell
prompt. For example:

  # ./conf.pl

Or

  # perl conf.pl

It means modifying the original code to make the plugin work.

in the directory with conf.pl, run: perl conf.pl

A patch is an update or added piece of software that is installed, to
add some functionality or fix a problem.

[SM-USERS] Responding to read receipts

Hello,

Everytime someone sends me an email and requests a read receipt and I
click ok I get this message:

ERROR : Could not complete request.
Query:FETCH : FLAGS
Reason Given: Error in IMAP command received by server.

I've asked some of my users if it happens to them and it doesn't, just to
me. I know, this is an imap problem but I was just wondering if anyone has
any insight. Thanks.

Setup:

Squirrelmail 1/2/12cvs

[SM-USERS] Problem authenticating some users

2003-06-13 Thread Daniel C. Mahoney
RedHat 8.0, squirrelmail 1.4.0, courier-imap 1.7.3.20030527, vpopmail
5.3.20, qmail 1.03

I can log in as postmaster and check my mail consistently. I can sometimes
log in under my wife's login, but not all the time. I can not log in under
my own account. When I try, I get a message returned saying
 Unknown user or password incorrect.

I can authenticate just fine using courier-imap's authlib/authtest, using
postmaster, my wife's login, or my login.

When a login attempt fails, /var/log/maillog records:
 Jun 13 16:31:32 riverside imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
Jun 13 16:31:37 riverside imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
 Jun 13 16:31:37 riverside imapd: DISCONNECTED, ip=[:::127.0.0.1],
headers=0, body=0

Any clues what I might have misconfigured?

Re: [SM-USERS] Where are free email services using SquirrelMail?

2003-06-13 Thread Andre Nicholson
I'm offering this service on one of my sites right now. The signup is flakey in that
you
don't really signup, instead create a "request for signup" (I have to manually create
the account). If I had more time I could finish the PHP/Perl scripts to automatically
create users after filling out the form, then it'll be more like those free webmail
sites.

I use SQ specifically for giving out free e-mails. Everyone one of my users that I've

[SM-USERS] SM delivers Internet mail, but not local mail. Any ideas?

2003-06-13 Thread John Schmerold
I have a SM 1.4.0-1.7.x installation. It will deliver mail outside of
the local domain, internal mail never gets sent.

The internal message is copied to the Sent folder, but never makes it to
the recipient. No error messages are provided.

Any ideas. Rest of system is Qmail & Courier.

RE: [SM-USERS] Software conflict or set-up error (using Win2K)

2003-06-13 Thread Paj
Paul, there still seems to be one v.small problem.
It seems that something goes wrong if someone sets/edits any event and
set its start time to 0(zero) for the hour.
The following error is displayed when clicking on 'Edit' for any event
that has its start time set to zero:

Notice: Undefined index: 0800 in
e:\inetpub\wwwroot\webmail\plugins\calendar\event_edit.php on line 124

It is then difficult to edit the event as the time has been changed to
'8', the length to zero, the priority to normal and the title and the text
for the event are blank.
Entering new data and ensuring the time is not zero fixes it next time the
event is edited. Setting the time to zero again returns the error.

Hope this is of some help and this is not impacting on the usage of the
calendar anywhere near enough for me to stop using it :)

Subject: [SM-USERS] Should I use a database like MySQL or just do without?

I have searched the archives and the wiki but haven't found my answers: I
plan to set up SM for a few hundred users, likely no more than 20-30
connected at any one time. SM will connect to an Exchange server for the
rear end... um, I guess I mean backend :). I have MySQL installed on the
box.

Should I use a database for SM? At what point does it become valuable? (I
know this can't be answered in an exact way)

And am I right in understanding that the value of using a database for
storage of preferences is better performance? Are there other benefits?

Besides user preferences and address book entries, what else are databases
used for in connection with SM?

I will avoid using a db if I can, simply because right now I don't know how
to admin MySQL or Postgres, etc, but if needed, I'll learn. Thanks! Scott

Usually high loaded servers tend to be better suited for database back
ends as it's generally quicker access times. It also makes things
easier on clustered servers as you can all access the same db back end
that way.

Better performance, easier to manage (single db instead of several
hundred files), don't have to worry too much about file permission
issues...

> Besides user preferences and address book entries, what else are
> databases used for in connection with SM?

User prefs, address book, certain plugins store preferences in them
too.

If it's only going to be a handful of users, then stay with file based
options, they tend to be less work if you're just getting started. You
can always migrate later.

It's been a couple of days... I've been reviewing some test code Marc
has been putting into SM a while ago, he seemed to have left it for a
bit with more pressing work to be completed. I have had a play with
some of the code as I was having issues with an exchange server
miss-displaying data too (similar layouts).

Unfortunately the code I've been working on was SM 1.5[cvs] which is
now slightly different to SM 1.4, and Marc has been playing with some
other code in there, so I cannot simple send you two files to test,
unless you're willing to upgrade to SM 1.5, I couldn't really tell you
if this'd fix the issue.

There is another option, and run the SM 1.5 alongside SM 1.4 so we can
find out if this issue is fixed by the experimental code.

Hello

Do you mean an fqdn when you say "local domain" or do you mean
"localhost".

Can you send an email from yahoo, or otherwise - outside your network -
to your "local domain".

You should check name resolution, mx records for the "local" domain on
the sm machine.

Also, what do your mail logs tell you...

job... Can I suggest you check logs, and find out if there are any

Hello. It sounds like you need to check your set up.

How do you know you aren't receiving messages, and what do these
messages have in common that is different than the ones you do receive?

If you cannot track down the problem, the usual explanation for servers
randomly working is malfunctioning hardware, such as a disk.

[SM-USERS] 'Toggle All' JavaScript Link Flaw

2003-06-13 Thread Andre Nicholson
This definetely isn't a bug in SM and I'm most certainly nit-picking here, but...

SquirrelMail 1.2.11 -- line 832
SquirrelMail 1.4.0 -- line 878

(not sure about any other versions but I'm sure it's in the get_selectall_link()
function)

In the script right_main.php (the one that displays your messages in the right frame),
when clicking on the 'Toggle All' JavaScript link, it scrolls the window to the top.
This irritates me (little things like this get to me).

I edited the function get_selectall_link() in ./functions/mailbox_display.php as
follows:

Line 832:
---
. '' . _("Toggle All")

TO

. '' . _("Toggle All")
---

Making the return value of the onClick handler false will leave the browser in its
current state and *not* execute the href value in the anchor -- which in this case is
instructing the browser to scroll to an empty bookmark (or, the top of the page).
Returning false will not execute the href value and not make your browser scroll to the
top :)

I'll step aside for others to post some real problems now, just wanted to share :P

Andre

[SM-USERS] userprefs dsn

2003-06-13 Thread Patrick Welche
I have my preferences DSN set to:

$prefs_dsn = 'pgsql://[EMAIL PROTECTED](/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432)/admin';
$prefs_table = 'userprefs';

Yet on login I get
"Preference database error (unknown error). Exiting abnormally"
This is with cvs squirrelmail of today, and DB.1.4.0. Should that not
work? (socket exists, squirrel has rights to table userprefs in database
admin)

Any thoughts on how to actually find out what the error is?

Cheers,

Patrick

Postgres will default to port 5432, so unless you've got it running on some other port,
leave that part out. Actually, I'm not even sure what the "(/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432)" part
is
supposed to be -- the path to the socket it looks like but I'm pretty sure that's not
needed for the DSN. If you wanted to specify a port number it would be the usual :5432
at the end followed by the table name (file). Try something like this instead:

$prefs_dsn = 'pgsql://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/admin';

Also, is postmaster not running on the localhost but instead on the machine 'unix'?
squirrel's password was also left out. This is OK if there is no password, but
otherwise:

$prefs_dsn = 'pgsql://squirrel:@unix/admin';

Check your logfile. I compile Postgres to /opt/pgsql and log everything to
/opt/pgsql/logfile but my setup is non-standard. Check /var/log perhaps?

I'm not entirely sure, just taking some wild guesses hoping one of them might help :)
