local solr geo_distance

Hi I'm getting geo_distance as str eventhough I'm define the field as
tdouble. my search looks like
/solr/select?&qt=geo&lat=xx.xx&long=yy.yy&q=*&radius=10
Is there anyway i can get is as
double instead of str
