anyone having luck "getting it early"?
i logged onto the redhat network website around noon, and at that time discs 1 and 2 were downloading at 2.5 kb/s (!), disc 3 at 9 kb/s. when i got home from work my transfers had failed. you can't restart easily because the url's expire. i know there's probably better ways to assure you can keep resuming (they HAD something about using curl on the instant iso page before but it looks like its gone), but _MY GOD_, didn't they KNOW there was going to be a rush today? and this rush is from all of their PAYING customers, who are supposed to be "getting it early" (they sent out notices letting us know how lucky we were). at this rate i _might_ have it just before i hits the ftp servers, and this is actually worse than being lumped in with the ftp masses, since i only have one server to choose from. at this point, the rhn site says: PLEASE NOTE: We are experiencing high volumes of traffic due to unprecedented demand for Red Hat Linux 9 ISOs. This is currently affecting our response time. Our engineering team is working to address this problem. Thank you for your patience. Feel free to send us questions or feedback. i'm trying to download this for my work, using their rhn account. i have been considering whether to purchase for myself at home, and this is exactly not the way to get me to do it. i'm glad i didn't sign up just so that i could get it early (what their email was encouraging people to do.) THEN i would be fuming. as it is, i'm only whining :p and for that i am sorry, but i was all psyched up for this, and i'm going nowhere fast... e slow. :) maybe someone else is having better luck? ron -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
Re: I'm totally lost!!!
I cannot login into the server to send/receive mail. are you logged into your server? if so, just use pine or one of the graphical email clients. if you're trying to access mail on your linux server from another pc (i do this from a windows box), i believe you need to install imap, which contains 'server daemons for the imap and pop network mail protocols': http://speakeasy.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=imap&submit=Search+...&system=&arch= then go into 'setup', 'system services', and put a check next to whichever daemon you need to it runs at startup. or maybe i'm completely misunderstanding why you're lost. and that makes me lost too :) ron At 10:19 PM 3/31/2003, you wrote: Trying to get mail working on my server. RE: anyone having luck "getting it early"? - bit torrent
actually i was already getting it via bit-torrent when i whined out that email :) but it still... diminishes... the value of a rhn account, IMHO, if i can't use it to download the distro before i can get it somewhere else. thanks, ron At 02:17 AM 4/1/2003, you wrote: hah! go here: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ got the ISOs in less than 30 minutes! /erik > -Original Message- > From: redhat-lists [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2003 1:27 AM > To: RedHat Mailing List > Subject: anyone having luck "getting it early"? > > > i logged onto the redhat network website around noon, and at > that time > discs 1 and 2 were downloading at 2.5 kb/s (!), disc 3 at 9 kb/s. > > when i got home from work my transfers had failed. you can't restart > easily because the url's expire. i know there's probably > better ways to > assure you can keep resuming (they HAD something about using > curl on the > instant iso page before but it looks like its gone), but _MY > GOD_, didn't > they KNOW there was going to be a rush today? > > and this rush is from all of their PAYING customers, who are > supposed to be > "getting it early" (they sent out notices letting us know how > lucky we > were). at this rate i _might_ have it just before i hits the > ftp servers, > and this is actually worse than being lumped in with the ftp > masses, since > i only have one server to choose from. > > at this point, the rhn site says: > > > PLEASE NOTE: We are experiencing high volumes of traffic due to > unprecedented demand for Red Hat Linux 9 ISOs.
