[PHP] Hebrew websites transition with php3 ..

2001-02-28 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

I've just joined this mailing-list, therefore, first of all, I would like
to say hello to everybody.

Now, regarding the issue..

As some of you might know, handling with Hebrew websites is rather
difficult. Hebrew words often come-out in reversed order (i.e. 'lmth'
instead of 'html').

I'm working on a php3 script which would help me do the following -
Load an existing HTML file which consists Hebrew words (as well as English
words and HTML tags), then reversing the Hebrew words back to order.

The problem I'm dealing with is how to reverse only the Hebrew words and
not the entire
document, which contains HTML tags and English words as well.
The function 'hebrev()' does the process of reversing, but it reverses tags
as well.

I would really appreciate it, if anyone will find some spare time to help me.

Thank you in advance -

   Aviv Revach

2001-02-28 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

Thank you for the quick reply.

I do have some questions regarding your answer.

 From what I know and have seen so far, there are more than just 3%
Internet users in Israel which use Netscape 4.x (I use it myself...).
Are you sure that I should just ignore these people, and just use logical
Hebrew?

Also, quite a lot of people started using Opera lately.. (ain't speaking
about Israeli users).
Does Opera supports Logical Hebrew? If so, from which version?

Hey!

So what do YOU offer me to do?

Should I use visual Hebrew (write a php3 script which will reverse Hebrew
words), or should I stick only to Logical Hebrew?

Re: [PHP] Hebrew websites transition with php3 ..

2001-03-01 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

Ok, I think that I will stick to logical Hebrew as most of you suggested.

But still, I'm interested in knowing how could I take a HTML document which
contains
HTML tags, Hebrew words and English words, and reveres only the Hebrew
words (making
them Visual Hebrew) using only php3 functions (the server I'm using doesn't
support php4).

It would be great if anyone could point of a solution for doing that.
By writing a script that will do that, I will both options - show the
Hebrew in my website as Logical or use a script to translate it into visual
Hebrew for browsers who do not support it.

Thank you in advance -

Re: [PHP] Hebrew websites transition with php3 ..

2001-03-01 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

I'm sending this e-mail only to you, since it's way off-topic from being in
the php-general
mailing list.

I have downloaded Netscape 6, it seems that Logical Hebrew isn't support
yet - only
Visual.
So if Netscape 4.x (except for the 4.61 version developed by IBM), Netscape
6, and
Opera does not support Logical Hebrew why should I use it??

What do other Hebrew web sites do regarding this matter?
Do they make two versions of the same web site, one for Netscape and one
for IE?

For conclusion -

I'm working on a Hebrew website. I want this website to look ok in both
browsers
(IE and Netscape), and I want this to be done the easiest way possible.

What should I do? Use Logical Hebrew and ignore the fact that Netscape does not
support it? or maybe I should use Visual Hebrew (reverse all the Hebrew
words using
some utility such as - "EasyHEB"), or maybe I should use Logical Hebrew in
the HTML
itself and turn it to Visual using a PHP script? (doing that would be
rather complicated.. hebrev() and hebrevc() aren't enough..)

Thank you in advance -

   Aviv Revach

[PHP] Running php code inside of a string within a php script..

2001-03-02 Thread Aviv Revach

Hello!

I'm facing a problem.

Inside of a php3 script - I have a string that contains html code as well
as php3 code.

At start, when I tried ECHOing the string to screen, the php commands
weren't activated
and viewing the source of the generated page allowed me to see that they
were just left
as they are, without any compilation.

How can I make those php3 commands to work as they supposed to?

Actually it doesn't. My string does not(!!) contains only php code.
It contains HTML tags, text, and php code (called with ).

Now, What should I do in order to run both the html tags and the php commands
in it?

Well, I'm building this site for a shop. It's audience will probably be
adults between ages
of 25 to 55. They won't be Internet wizards, but this shop is rather
expensive so they will
probably be more than just common people.

h. I'm getting tired from this Hebrew issue.. This is probably the
reason to
change my profession..  ;(

Still no quick answers.. you chose to ignore Visual-Only browsers.
You told me that many Hebrew website developers didn't.
What should I do??

Hey!

PHPEd is free:

*  Runs under Windows.
* Has syntax highlighting. Supports: Html, Perl, Php, SQL, and regular
text files.
*  Can edit multiple files
* I'm quite sure it reports line numbers.
* It has a very good search & replace functionality.

This is obviously what you need!!

You can get it from: http://soysal.com/PHPEd/

Re: [PHP] replacing a line in a file

2001-03-13 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

I didn't try to analyze your code, but why not using the file() function
which opens a file and puts it's content into an array.

After doing that, you could seek that array line-by-line for
"$data[0]:$shadow[1]"
and replace it with $data[0]:$data[1].

Since you're dealing with full lines in your script, file() is the best
choice (though,
sometimes not the fastest).
It will also improve your code by making it much easier to read than when
using
fopen(), fread(), etc.. as you're doing now.

RE: [PHP] Getting name of the main file from external included sc ript..

2001-03-14 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

I already tried many ways. I also tried using $PHP_SELF. It returned the
included script and not the main script (I echo'ed it to screen in order to
be sure).
The main file(main.php3) has an inclusion similar to the next one:
   http://$SERVER_NAME/scripts/ext.php3?LayoutDir=/layout/&LayoutNum=1");
   ?>

What do you offer me to do?

Thank you in advance -

[PHP] Getting string's content between two tags..

2001-03-14 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

Once again, I have a question ;)

I have a string that looks like this(I loaded it with a file data):

   "
  blabla

  continue of blabla
"

I would like to know what's the fastest technique of taking just a specific
part in
this string(case-insensitive) and putting it into a new string
i.e.: from "" to ""
or:   from "" to ""

Thank you in advance -

[PHP] Executing a string with both html and php inside it..

2001-03-14 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

What should I do in order to execute the next string:
   $str = "\n"
   $str .= "blabla\n";
   $str .= "  \n";
   $str .= "blabla\n";
   $str .= "\n";

When I tried using 'echo' with the string, but the php code didn't work...

Is there any way of doing this without writing this string to a file
and include'ing it? (that would be rather slow!)

Thank you in advance -

Re: [PHP] Executing a string with both html and php inside it..

2001-03-15 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

The function 'eval()' can't be used here.

I already tried working with it and failed.
eval() is being used for running PHP code.
My string contains HTML tags with PHP code inside(in '' tags),
not only PHP as eval() requires.

Do you have any other suggestion?

Thank you in advance -

Re: [PHP] Executing a string with both html and php inside it..

2001-03-15 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

I would like to thank you and Mark for your quick reply.

What am I trying to accomplish is the following:

   I have created an engine which separates my website's code and design.
   The code is stored in one file(code.txt) and the design in
another(design.txt).

   The engine loads up parts of each file in order to create the final
result, meaning -
 * It prints the "" etc..
 * It prints DESIGN.TXT's head
 * It prints CODE.TXT's head
 * It prints "" etc..
 * It prints part of DESIGN.TXT's body
 * It prints CODE.TXT's body
 * It prints the second-part of the DESIGN.TXT's body
 * It prints ""

   That's the general idea of what the engine does, but it's doing other
things as well.
   The engine works the way it does because I wanted to have the entire content
   and the entire design all in 2 separate files.
   Most of the engines I've seen so far, used 3 different files for the
design, and included
   them in different places inside their content. I don't wish to do that..

   Now, all worked fine until a while go, I used the 'echo' command in
order to print the
   strings that contain content/design HTML code.

   The troubles began when I added PHP code to my content -
   The PHP tags were IGNORED... !

Now, after I've told you all the things you should know, I ask for your
assistance.
What do you suggest me to do?

Thank you in advance -

   Aviv Revach

Re: [PHP] URL / address

Hey!

You could easily use the Environment Variables.

 echo "http://$HTTP_HOST/$PATH_INFO";

will do the trick..

Re: [PHP] command that gives current location of script

2001-03-18 Thread Aviv Revach

Hey!

You could use 'phpinfo()' to find what you seek. $PHP_SELF does give you the
current location of the php script, but with 'phpinfo()' you could read
about other
values that supply miscellanies related information.
