[PHP] PHP & MSSQL Images

2003-08-12 Thread Chris . Jones
Hey ..

I am having a problem when i try to pull an image that has been stored in
MS SQL Server from displaying properly. I know, its a waste of space to
store the actual image in SQL, but this is the way it needs to be done to
be compatible with some of the other systems. Anyway, if you have any
input at all as to what could be wrong, please let me know. I will
provide my system information and code below for your review. Thanks.

Platform: Linux Redhat 9
PHP Version  4.3.1
FreeTDS 0.61 (used to connect to Microsoft SQL Server)
SQL Server 2000

Here is my code (except for connection information, of course)

";
$sqluser = "";
$sqlpass = "";
$catalog = "";

[EMAIL PROTECTED]($dsource,$sqluser,$sqlpass) or die("Could not connect
to the database");
@mssql_select_db($catalog) or die ("invalid");

$getpic = mssql_query("select Picture from GetPics where Id='$eventid'")
or die("Query is not achievable by SQL Server") or die("invalid");

while($rs=mssql_fetch_array($getpic))
{

header("Content-type: image/jpeg");
$image=$rs["Picture"];
print $image;

Point taken and thanks for responding. I am using the computer to test the
script which I will then upload to a hosting service. I am connected behind
a router which assigns the IP for the computer also the cable company
changes the IP for the cable modem now and again so I feel quite safe.
In fact if any one responds to this answer I would be interested to know if
hackers could get past all that, like everyone else I don't like the thought
of someone snooping around my computer.
Thanks

First, you aren't reading the manual, which has some examples. The
referred page also has "See also:" with some good references.
http://www.php.net/mysql_query

Second, you haven't [apparently] bothered to search the web for any
php/mysql tutorials. Search some good tutorial sites and they will give
you some good examples of printing and of php/mysql in general.

Have fun learing

RE: [PHP] Imagick

2003-08-12 Thread Chris Hubbard
Jacob,
Yes I've used imagemagick with php. I found that none of the online
documentation worked for me. I was unable to use the imagemagick class and
the tutorials seemed to refer to older versions.

That being said, here's some code that does work, maybe you can extrapolate
from it.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

/*** rename the file.
* Note: I've got a form that supports multiple file uploads, hence the
$_FILES array
* the renameFile() function creates a unique file name for the image being
uploaded
* so no existing files are overwritten
*/
$photo_name = renameFile($_FILES["photo"]["name"][$i],0);
$photo_location = "/www/gallery/photos/";
// copy file from /tmp to photos/tmp
copy ($_FILES["photo"]["tmp_name"][$i],$photo_location.$photo_name);
$command = "/usr/bin/identify -verbose '".$photo_location.$photo_name."'";
exec ($command,$result,$value);

/*** get verbose information
* in the rename code above $command contains the 'verbose' information from
imagemagick
*/
$arrlength = count($result);
for ($tmpi = 0; $tmpi < $arrlength; $tmpi++)
{
if(eregi('Geometry', $result[$tmpi]))
{
$tmp1 = explode(' ', $result[$tmpi]);
$tmp1length = count ($tmp1);
for ($tmpj = 0; $tmpj < $tmp1length; $tmpj++)
{
$tmp2 = explode('x', $tmp1[$tmpj]);
$tmp2length = count ($tmp2);
if ($tmp2length > 1)
{
$x = $tmp2[0];  // this is the image width
$y = $tmp2[1];  // this is the image height
}
}
}
}

/***
* the following code takes the dimensions of the image, and if the image is
too big,
* resizes the image down to the max image size.
*/
if ($x > $image_max_width || $y > $image_max_height)// resize photo to max
dimensions
{
$x = $image_max_width;
$y = $image_max_height;
$command = "/usr/bin/convert -geometry ". $x ."x". $y ."
".$photo_location.$photo_name ." ".$photo_location.$photo_name;
exec ($command,$result,$value);
}

I know you can do compositing with Imagemagick, but I haven't tried that. I
assume it's as complex as everything else with Imagemagick. Imagemagick is
a pain, but the quality of the resized images so far surpasses GD(2) that
it's worth the work.
Good luck.
Chris

Subject: [PHP] Imagick

Excuse me, I accidentally sent that last incomplete message.
I have successfully compiled PHP 4.3.3RC3 with the --with-imagick flag after
compiling and installing ImageMagick 5.5.7 (that was a headache on it's
own). The following error keeps cropping up:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagick_readimage() in
/usr/local/lib/php/docs/imagick/examples/border.php on line 5

I've tried compiling PHP without the --with-imagick flag and then doing a
"pear install imagick" to get the pear version 0.9.7 package. The same
problem occurs. I don't even know how to use imagick yet; I can't get the
thing to work with example files, so I can't start writing my own stuff yet.
Does anyone at this NG use the imagick tools? Is there something I have to
include maybe? Like "require 'imagick.php'" or something? I can't find any
files that look appropriate for that.

Thanks in advance,

Jake

On Friday, August 8, 2003, at 10:28 AM, Neil Davis wrote:

Fellas,

It is a security issue. Most ISP's don't allow register_globals to be

it
better than I can.
http://www.php.net/register_globals
Please re-read what I wrote in context. I'm fully aware of the whole
register_globals situation. Have read (and wrote) heaps on the topic.

The OP was talking about RG issues when upgrading versions... In
regards to upgrading, the fact that register_globals defaults to off,
not on in newer versions should not be a deterent to upgrading, because
the value can simply be edited in the php.ini file, changed via a
htaccess file, etc etc.

I was not AT ALL suggesting that turning on register_globals was a good
idea... I was suggesting that the setting could be easily switched to
match the value on other servers (on or off as required).

Me? I code strictly for RG off, and have done so for ages, and force
RG to be off regardless of my ISP's settings via a htaccess file.

Cheers,

Justin

Hello,

Can anyone verify / solve the problem I am having with downloading an

The following test works fine in every browser I've tried except in mozilla

opens the file. In Mozilla, it can't open the file because it displays the

Any ideas why?

Subject: [PHP] PHP vs ASP.NET "formal opinions" request

Hello everybody.

I've been doing some research about the PHP vs ASP.NET
debate, because I need to justify the use of PHP in my
graduation work.

In my University, people in charge of approving the
graduation works advocate Microsoft's technologies.
They don't believe in the free software movement or
the open source movement. Some guys tried to develop a
system using PHP and those people made them change to
ASP.NET. They say because "It's the future". According
to them it's where the money is.

Well, I only have one year using PHP, but I'll try to
fight. I've read a lot of opinions that have been very
useful to me.

I collected a lot of those opinions and printed to
show them to the authorities, but they said that I
needed "formal" basis (books, scientific journals,
etc.) to justify the use of PHP. They said that they'd
only allow "BIG COMMERCIAL, IMPARTIAL, RECOGNIZED
WEBSITES" opinions and articles.

I pretend to use this comparison found in the
Microsoft MSDN website:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnaspp/
html/phpvsaspnet.asp

Can you give me some pointers (websites, names, etc)
where I could find this kind of "formal comparison"
about both technologies?

I've been looking for some book that covers this
issue. I've also been looking for some magazine
article that I could use.

I'd appreciate any kind of help. Thanks.

Regards, Douglas.

[PHP] how to regenerate your own session id

2003-08-12 Thread treeml

There is a function called, session_regenerate_id, for php4.3.2 and above.
Right now, it just creates a random id. Is there a way to specify the value
of the regenerated session_id? So I can record the SID before I send out
every time.

I tried,

session_id('id_generated_me');
session_start();

This code does write a new SID, but it also resets the session. Which means
I can't get the data set in the previous session.
I also tried,

session_start();
setcookie(session_name(), SID_generated_by_me );

believe it or not, this just puts another cookie in the client browser with
same "session_name". (I didn't even know that 2 cookies from the same
domain, with same session name is possible, I thought one would just replace
the other) And the session is still reading from the old cookie with the old
SID.

I search through the doc, but have no luck. Any suggestion appreciated.
Thanks.

[PHP] dbx

2003-08-12 Thread daniel
hi there , i am interested to know more about dbx, especially the error
handling

$link   = dbx_connect(DBX_MYSQL, "localhost", "db", "username", "password")
or die ("Could not connect");

is there such an error feature where it can die to the screen with a custom
error message instead of doing the error checking for every single query
and connection ?

and there is also no example of how to get a list of results like

while ($row = $result->fetchRow()) {

}

Oh... I SEE! Now I get it!

So /that's/ what a backtick is huh? I always ignored that link in the
php manual because I thought it had something to do with monitoring the
length in time of a process (isn't that also called "tick" or
something?).

I didn't know that the ` was a "backtick" so it never crossed my mind to
look for that word.

Thanks for clearing this up.

[PHP] libxml in PHP 5

2003-08-12 Thread Analysis & Solutions
Hey Folks:

I'm starting to use PHP 5 on my development machine. The primary XML
parser is changing from expat to libxml. I was curious about the change,
so sought documentation of the new libxml stuff on the PHP site but
haven't been able to find any.

Perhaps someone can steer me toward such documentation and/or answer a
question.

I was thinking that the new XML parser would necessitate scripts use
different function calls. Or will the main functions and behavior remain
the same, but only the library be changed?

If the functions will indeed be different, is there some place to find
docs about these new procedures? They don't have to be great, just give
me an idea of how to start hacking something simple.

Thanks,

That code (looked closely) confirms you're doing
something strange :)

A constructor cannot call (or rather should not call)
"itself" while being constructed. It leads to
"unexpected" results.

So technically in some cases you might be able to get
it, but on most occassions you won't, it depends on
how your class is made. And yours recurses, I'm
presuming you wanted that for some reason (??)

On almost all times your data will be still pointing
to your base class (second_class).

So i'm afraid your method is not reliable, dangerous
none the less.

The reliable and correct way of doing it is after your
constructor has finished your class and made it ready
(guaranteed), then you can do what you want to.
