[opensource-dev] ATI vs NV vs OSX

2011-05-11 Thread Marc Adored
So I am building a machine we shall call it a haxintosh... It will be
running OSX I was just wondering if ATI or Nvidia was better supported
for SecondLife on OSX? I know OSX chose ATI for there machines but
does SL support it or would I be better off to get Nvidia anyways? I
really want everything shadows lighting all that. Ive seen issues on
OSX for some people but I dont know if its ATI or SL's problems with
the os directly. I know this is the opensource dev list but I figured
you guys would know this stuff better then anyone being in the
trenches and all :P

Changes
---

added ticket reference

Summary
---

Partial fix for selected text indentation in script editor stalling the viewer:
disabled updating text segments until all indentation commands are executed.
Looks like the viewer is not stalled but the indentation still works rather
slow.

This addresses bug STORM-229.

[opensource-dev] How do I change the main background?

2011-05-11 Thread xinyi chen
Hi, Guys:

I'm trying to change the main background of Second Life Viewer2, I found the
below code in indra\newview\llviewernetwork.cpp

const char* DEFAULT_LOGIN_PAGE = "http://secondlife.com/app/login/";;

Then I did replace the the variable DEFAULT_LOGIN_PAGE = "
http://mysite.com/app/login/";;

then re-build secondlife-bin.exe, when I run the exe, the main window
doesn't display my web page ..
The background is black only.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

[opensource-dev] Speed up with build secondlife-bin

2011-05-11 Thread xinyi chen
Hi,

I'm not worrying to build other dependencies projects in whole VS2010
solution,
But i'm much worrying about the main executable project > secondlife-bin,

What I mean is when I made a smaller change to a cpp file, I have to compile
all cpp files again,
I noticed there is existing pre-compiled setting where's the header file >
llviewerprecompiledheaders.h
But it doesn't seem to benefit for build speed.

What i'm expecting is that secondlife-bin project only does compile the
modified cpp file, then linking libs.

Probably I didn't find some settings for the case, who know this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [opensource-dev] ATI vs NV vs OSX

2011-05-11 Thread Trilo Byte
Caveat - shadows are still in the experimental stages at LL, even moreso on the
Mac (as I understand it, the team doing that work within LL has little to no
access to Mac hardware for testing and experimentation).

Shadows currently work on nVidia Macs with the following GPU's: GeForce 9400m,
GeForce 9600m GT, GT-120, GT-320M, GT-330M, and GTX-285. The Quadro 4000
supports shadows when running the Windows SL client under boot camp or even in
the Parallels virtual machine, but not reliably on the Mac client. I've heard
mixed reports about shadows working on the GeForce 8800GT.

They do not work yet on any ATI Mac when running the Mac client, though there
are plans to fix that at some point. It is not a case of waiting on a change
in drivers on Apple's end, but changes and improvements to the code on LL's
end. Since the team involved with getting that moving are also the same folks
tasked with working on mesh (an understandably higher priority project), it's
moving slowly. Then add the stuff I mentioned in the caveat (it's still
considered experimental which makes it 'back-burner' status, plus they don't
have the proper equipment to be able to test and experiment internally).

From a hardware and OS/driver/OpenGL standpoint, both nVidia and ATI's hardware
are more than capable of doing the job under either version of the OS (the
professional 3D rendering apps don't seem to have any trouble with shadows,
depth of field, or global illumination on any reasonably powerful card), the
issue is in the SL application code.

Yeah, you have to use the *OS configs or you will get errors from not

Re: [opensource-dev] ATI vs NV vs OSX

2011-05-11 Thread Marc Adored
Right now I m running a haxintosh and I get poor performance but I can
still turn shadows on. I am running on a AMD Athlon x2 and a geforce
8800gs. I am upgrading to a intel i7 sandy bridge and was just trying
to figure out what card would be best suited for osx and SL. Thanks
for the input guys. From what I've been told from the haxintosh
community is that the geforce 2xx's perform better then the 3xx and
4xx cards on osx. The most recommended card is a GTX-280 or 285 so I
think that will be my choice. Thanks again guys :)
