Re: [opensource-dev] step by step guide to compiling snowglobe

2010-02-17 Thread Opensource Obscure

Me too, I think it would be nice :) but I also think
nobody is going to do it right now - a new viewer
is going to be released in the few next weeks.

While next viewer won't be different from the
compilation and building point of view, I guess
most people think it's pointless to write new
documentation for a viewer that won't be used
anymore in a few months.

Also, this is not such a *huge* issue..well,
it is..for you, me and a few other people.
Most people who want to compile their builds
know how to work around issues without step-to-step
instructions because they're programmers.

It seems you can't, and for sure I couldn't
either, unfortunately. But I'm pretty sure we
will fix this, as there are many people here
waiting for Viewer 2 code release.

Well I am at least glad to see others have the same issue. A new viewer coming
out isnt going to change the fact that there is not one step-by-step tutorial
out there. Without the community here making it easier for people to get
involved any viewer will be under utilized (if at all). Heh and also, I've
never met a programmer that didnt look for an example before trying to code it

the biggest problem as such is some parts of the compile run seem to require
chicken blood and sheep entrails.

until somebody fixes the Boost Hell problem and other But we haven't
updated our compile farm in the last 3 years so you have to use an old

I would be shocked and seriously doubt the skills of the LL paid
programmers if SL 2.0 did not get used as an excuse to fix these
problems. There should come a day when you can build a tree with all
of the libs and assets invoke a "All targets -- static" command and
have all the platforms done in one single (but massive) run.

I personally have a 3-legged black cat, but that might be a Linux

I am not sure if i tried the path listed there specifically. I have tried many
different paths. I hope this one works. A shortcut or something that is easy is
not really required but would definately be nice. I would be extremely thrilled
if anything would work :-).

Re: [opensource-dev] step by step guide to compiling snowglobe

2010-02-17 Thread k\o\w
On Windows it's as easy as double clicking develop.py. Sounds like maybe
you're not ready for Linux, and should try to a more user friendly OS/IDE.

Snowglobe should work out of the box with VS2005. Emerald and Imprudence
are easier options if you're using VS2008. I believe the only issue with
VS2008 + snowglobe is boost, and the libs from Emerald or Imprudence can
be dropped in to fix that.

Your question cannot be answered unless you sign an NDA. :-)

I'll sign an NDA happily if I get an answer for that and get a working download
link for the 2.0 beta. ;-D

I think pretty much everybody on this group would. At any rate, if they
released 2.0 today it wouldn't be "early," it would be "on time." Blog
posts pointed to a February release.

Also, technically it would be the BSI group that would be more likely to
know this kind of thing, being the designated alpha testing group. (They
weren't used for 2.0's alpha though, and the group has been silent for
months, so I don't blame you. ;) )

~Maya Remblai, still a bit pessimistic.
