[Numpy-discussion] Scientific Python Translations sprint - join us!

2025-01-30 Thread Melissa Mendonça via NumPy-Discussion
Hi all!

As part of the Scientific Python Translations project [1], we are
organizing a full-day sprint to answer questions and meet new volunteer
contributors interested in working on Scientific Python project website
translations. Currently, we are accepting translations for NumPy, SciPy,
NetworkX, Zarr, pandas and Xarray, but more project may join in the future.

The sprint will take place on **February 11th from 11AM UTC to 9PM UTC on
the Scientific Python Discord server** [2]. You are free to join or leave
at any time during those hours, and you can stay for any amount of time.
You can choose to work on your own, or you can team up with other
translators and discuss specific issues.This is a great opportunity for
first-time contributors as the only requirement is a working knowledge of
English and proficiency in the target translation language - although
familiarity with the project being translated is useful.

We encourage you to participate even if you are not sure you fulfill these
requirements.

Target languages include Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese,
Portuguese (Brazilian), Arabic and Hindi. You can find more information on
the translation process in our documentation [3] or join the #translation
channel of the Scientific Python Discord server.

You can also find this announcement in the Scientific Python discourse, if
you want to have a link to share with your network:

[Numpy-discussion] Re: How to join IRC channel of numpy

2025-01-14 Thread Melissa Mendonça via NumPy-Discussion
Hello, Diya

Please find all communication channels for the NumPy project here:
https://numpy.org/community/

NumFOCUS is a fiscal sponsor for the NumPy project, and you can find more
information about that organization here: https://numfocus.org/

Cheers,

Melissa

[Numpy-discussion] Translations project - Crowdin migration

2025-05-12 Thread Melissa Mendonça via NumPy-Discussion
Hi all,

We recently moved the numpy.org translations project on crowdin to the
Scientific Python crowdin instance, so it benefits from the automations and
workflows we have recently developed there for multiple others projects
such as SciPy, pandas, xarray, zarr and networkx.

To prevent folks from translating on the wrong crowdin project, I would
like to do 2 things:

1. Send a message to all translators on our old crowdin project, with the
following text:
```
Hello,
We would like to inform you that the translations for the NumPy.org website
have been migrated to a new crowdin instance. To continue helping with
translations for NumPy.org, please read the documentation for the
Scientific Python translation projects at
https://scientific-python-translations.github.io/translate
Thanks!
```
2. Close/delete/archive that old crowdin project so folks don't reach it by
accident.

I'd love to get some feedback from other maintainers on this.

I have also added this comment to the meta-issue about translations:
https://github.com/numpy/numpy.org/issues/55#issuecomment-2873315677

If there are no concerns, I propose sending the message in the next 48h and
closing the old project in the next week or so.

Thanks,

- Melissa
