a member on both lists can only read messages if i send them from my mail
client
in txt.
she is on another mailman list run by someone else and can read all messages
from that list.

does anyone know what setting may need to be changed on my lists?

[Mailman-Users] sending a message to someone not subscribed to a list?

2015-02-14 Thread adam morris

Hi all,

I'm new to mailman.
I run 4 fairly small lists.
I found somewhere but can't remember where the ability to send a message
to people if they send a message to a list and they are not subscribed.
I could put a message somewhere that they will see to remind them, then
I as administrator won't get the bounce message.

I can't remember where this is, I did it for some of my lists but not all.

If someone could help that would be appreciated.
Sorry for being so long winded!

[Mailman-Users] user not receiving messages.

2015-05-09 Thread adam morris

Hi all,

I have a user subscribed to a list with two addresses.
He can send to the list from both addresses but can only receive from one.

I have unsubscribed him and resubscribed with the same result.
Neither of us have done anything to his settings after he has been
subscribed.

Should I contact my hosting provider?

Hi all,

I know in a members options for a mailman list they can tick a box to be

Is there a way for me as administrator to change that for individual

In this case there is a bounce address mentioned.

[Mailman-Users] mailman list messages being rejected by spam experts?

2016-04-09 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,

I have a couple of lists set up through my hosting provider.

One list with less than 200 members has most messages sent to it
rejected by spam experts and the user gets an error message saying the
message was rejected because it had a high probability of spam.

Another list I have with over 200 people has no issues.
I haven't made any changes to either list so think it is something spam
experts have done.

My ISP has been trying to work this out for over a week.

Any suggestions?

[Mailman-Users] problems unsubscribing from lists using email address?

Hi all,

in the footer of messages for lists I run I put a link for people to

the link is

listname dash unsubscribe@domain.

If someone clicks on this link and sends a message there is no

If i go to the members interface and untick the box they get unsubscribed.

If someone tries to subscribe using the same method it works fine.

How do you try to subscribe that address? By web or by mail?

In the admin page Privacy Options, there is a ban_list option near the
bottom of the page (this is version 2.1.21, I believe yours was older
so there may be variations). AFAIK that is the only way to ban an
address from subscribing in "stock" Mailman.

Make sure that the member is not in that list. I believe you reported
that you have cleared out that list already, in which case it's
possible that you didn't click the Submit button at the bottom of the
page, and it's still there. I guess it's barely possible that you
cleared the ban_list for a different list than the one you're trying
to subscribe that address to.

If the web interface reports an empty ban list and you attempted to
subscribe by mail, it's possible that there are two Mailman
installations, one handling mail, and the other web (and this one has
no effect on actual list operation). Multiple installations can arise
for a number of reasons such as an incomplete upgrade where either the
mailserver or the webserver was not properly configured.

Otherwise, I don't know what's going on. Perhaps Mark has an idea.

Regards,

[Mailman-Users] stopping cross posting?

2016-10-10 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,

Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology.

People send messages to a list I run as well as other lists that I have

When people reply to the message sent to other lists the replies go to
my list as well as the list they replied to.

Is there a way to stop this apart from asking people to only send the
message to one list at a time?

From what I can tell I have replies going to list and not sender.

[Mailman-Users] creating an announce only list?

2019-04-14 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,

Can someone remind me what I need to do to make an email list announce
only opposed to a normal list where people can post and reply to messages.

TIA.

[Mailman-Users] messages being labeled as spam in the subject line?

2021-11-06 Thread Adam Morris
I have seen on some mailman lists where messages sent to a list when
received by others have the word spam in the subject.
Is this a mailman setting that can be changed or is it a setting either
with the mailman hosting provider?

Thanks in advance.

[Mailman-Users] {Spam?} in subject lines.

2021-12-07 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,
I realised I asked about this recently.
on lists I run I don't have this appearing in subject lines where
messages are sent from g mail and other domains.
For a list I don't run messages sent from g mail and other providers
have this in the subject line.

Wondering what settings need changing on the list this is happening with?
TIA.

[Mailman-Users] Member posting to a list but address not in membership list.

2022-01-11 Thread Adam Morris

I have someone who is posting to a list I run.
I subscribed them originally but their address doesn't show up in the
list of members so I can't change moderation status etc.

Where else could I look to find their address?
TIA.

[Mailman-Users] Error member gets when sending to one of my lists?

2024-03-17 Thread Adam Morris
Hi all,

A member is subscribed to two lists I run.

He can post to one but gets the following error when posting to the other list.

I don’t think I have things set differently for any of the lists I run.

SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:

550 Maximum line length exceeded (see RFC 5322 2.1.1).

TIA.
