[Mailman-Users] Step by step guide to installing Mailman

2022-04-04 Thread Ali Savas

Hi all,

I have a server running Ubuntu. Is there somewhere a good step by step
guide on how I can install and set up Mailman on an Ubuntu/Debian
server? Possibly also with hints on what to look for during the
installation. Quasi a guide for beginners.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards
Ali

Hi Ali,

The steps to manually install Mailman-2.x are detailed in a README document
in the tarball which you can extract and read.
The steps to use the Ubuntu packages to install Mailman-2.x can be found
allover the Internet. Please refer to this one:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mailman

Please note that Mailman-2.x (2.1.37 is the latest) is slowly being EoLed
because Python-2.7 is EoL.

For Mailman-3, you can use the following instructions:
https://wiki.list.org/DOC/Howto_Install_Mailman3_On_Debian10 or
these:
https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/install/virtualenv.html#virtualenv-install

Please also note that for some uses and for some people, MM2 is probably
still the better choice- quicker/easier to install and as I understand has
features that haven't been implemented in MM3.

For a few small lists, I myself wouldn't use MM3 (the fact that python2.7 is
EoL matters very little to me, it still runs the code just as well).

Later,

z!
