[Mailman-Users] unsubscribe actions

2021-03-03 Thread edi...@visionscience.com

I have run a Mailman list for many years.
Recently I have begun to receive occasional large (~30) batches of messages
with the content:

> xxx has been removed from yyy
where xxx is the address of a subscriber and yyy is the name of my list.

In addition, the subject line, as seen in Apple Mail in the list of message, is
“A Matter of Taste”
That subject line does not appear in the message or the headers when I open it.

No other information is provided as to why the member has been unsubscribed,
but the fact that they arrive in batches suggests that it is not the subscriber
that is unsubscribing.

The total number of subscribers is, in fact, declining.

Could anyone explain what is happening, tell me how to stop it, or point me to
the relevant FAQ?

Thanks!

Andrew

[Mailman-Users] possible changes

2021-03-03 Thread Vako Nicolian

Is there a way to change the email that comes from *mailman**-bounces*@...?
I want to change the -bounces or remove it completely.

Also prefer to use /*-unsubscribe* /instead of */-leave/*, to
unsubscribe a member, is that possible?

Thanks,
Vako

That address with the -bounces suffix is required for automated bounce
processing. Without the -bounces suffix, bounces would go to the list.
You wouldn't want that.

You might want to set General Options -> include_sender_header to No so
brain dead MUAs like Outlook don't misuse it.

They are synonymous. What's your issue?

2021-03-03 Thread Christian Buser via Mailman-Users
Hi Andrew

What does the "Subject:"-line in the mail header say? It could be that
the mail index in Mail.app is broken.

Can you check whether the address was subscribed before and is it really
removed?

I’d suggest you have your users to re-confirm any subscribes and
unsubscribes.

Christian

[Mailman-Users] Re: mail delivery failed on my email [SOLVED]

2021-03-03 Thread Jim Dory
Ok, I started a ticket with the hosting service and they found a misconfigure in the mail routing. I'm not exactly clear
on the issue but since the server name has changed a few times and we migrated it once or twice - plus my inexperience -
something got borked. Here is what the tech guy said:

It seems your mail is being routed via SpamExperts with the destination set to your Cloud server. Can you please confirm
that you are using your cloud server to host your mail box for the domain 'nomekennelclub.com'.

I have now corrected the MX record for the domain 'nomekennelclub.com' and the mail should now be routed to your domain
'nomekennelclub.com' under your cloud server. Please retry sending the mail now and let us know if the issue persist.

What Mailman version is this? Recent versions have a second line in the
body that says what the source of the unsubscribe was.

Also, you say "That subject line does not appear in the message or the
headers when I open it." What is the Subject: header. If it was sent by
Mailman, the Subject: should be "yyy unsubscribe notification".

The "A Matter of Taste" in the Apple Mail message list is apparantly an
Apple Mail thing.

If I had to guess, I'd guess that these unsubscribes are from bounce
processing and the bounces are due to DMARC.

See the FAQ at . Hopefully your Mailman
version is new enough to support DMARC Mitigations. Also, you should
ensure that Bounce processing -> bounce_notify_owner_on_disable is set
to Yes so you are notified of disabled delivery before the user's are
removed.

[Mailman-Users] Pipermail scrubbing ascii txt to ksh attachment

2021-03-03 Thread Mark Dale via Mailman-Users
Hi Listers,

I've got a client's list to which a plain text email notice is sent
everyday.

Mailman-Version: 2.1.34
Postfix
Debian 10

The message contents are fairly similar each day and the text message
renders in email clients just fine and the .mbox file reads fine also.

However, Pipermail renders each archived message as a ".ksh" attachment.

Subject: [XXX] XXX Published daily - 26097

An embedded and charset-unspecified text was scrubbed...

The message header contains:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Could anyone point me in the right direction to get the archived
messages to display their content as text in the message body instead of
as an attachment?

Thanks,
Mark

I just want to know if there is any way to change these terms to
something else.

e. g. : change bounces to admin

If you want to change -bounces to -admin (a synonym for -bounces in MM
2.1, but not MM 3) in the envelope sender, you'd need to modify the
source code.

If you mean you would like to change -leave to -unsubscribe in the
List-Unsubscribe: header, again you'd need to modify the source code.

I really think your objection to -bounces would be removed if you set
General Options -> include_sender_header to No.

In order to help with this, I need to see the complete MIME structure of
the message. I.e. all the Content-Type: headers including the top level
and all the boundaries. This information for a message received from the
list is what I want to see as that's what Scrubber sees. Or the message
from the archives/private/listname.mbox/listname.mbox would do too.

Scrubber should not be scrubbing the 'Content-Type: text/plain;
charset="us-ascii"' part with the message 'An embedded and
charset-unspecified text was scrubbed...'. Something else is going on here.

The .ksh extension comes from the Python library
mime_types.guess_all_extensions, which returns the list

['.ksh', '.bat', '.h', '.txt', '.pl', '.c', '.asc', '.text', '.pot',
'.brf', '.srt']

for text/plain and we arbitrarily pick the first one which is .ksh, but
we shouldn't be doing that with a text/plain part with a declared charset.
