1) From the site itself:
"Beware! This code has not been touched since 2010-09. Therefore, it's
mainly obsolete.

DO NOT USE THIS CODE"

2) In my experience the main problem is not to decrypt and encrypt
emails, it is to get the public keys of your users and keep your private
keys valid.

For a public encrypted mailing list server you need an S/MIME
certificate *and* an PGP certificate for each list.
That is, because you usually can not restrict users to one method or the
other, and they are not compatible.
Especially S/MIME certificates expire after some time (yearly, or up to
5 years).
Your PGP certificates should expire too, for security reasons.
You need to keep them both up to date with overlapping new certificates.
And you need to distribute their public keys to your users.

Then you need to know the preferred encryption method of each user plus
their public keys.
Those will change too, therefore you need some mechanism to get the
current one and keep them in sync.
And make sure, to never use expired ones.

Kind regards,
Christian Mack

Thanks for that info. None of it sounds insurmountable other than the
code itself. If I need a secure mailman list, is there another alternative?

[Mailman-Users] Fw: Issues with emails being sent as attachments rather than actual emails on the list serv

2021-02-12 Thread Tin Pham Nguyen
Hi fellow mailman users,

I am the administrator for the Australian Law Librarians' Association email
list - we have been receiving issues where all emails have been sent as
attachments as seen here - rather than as an actual email.

Are you able to provide any advice on adjusting the settings or if this is a
wider issue for other email lists?

[Mailman-Users] Re: Add "sender's name/email" to BODY of mail as header?

2021-02-12 Thread Alex Bellig
I am interested in this option as well. Here is a scenario:
When people send a message to the group and don't sign their name, I want their
name to be picked from the membership list and mentioned at the top of the body
as From:
It will follow with their message in the body of the email.

So is there a variable that displays the name of the person and which template
can we add it to.

Thanks!

[Mailman-Users] Adding sender's name to the message body automatically

2021-02-12 Thread Alex Bellig
Usually users forget to sign their name at the bottom of their mail body, I
would like to force their name to be added at the top of the body as From:
which will be fetched from the membership list.

So, is there a way to add the sender's name (and/or email address) to the top
of each mail so that the mails have the name of the sender? which template of
file we need to add that variable, if any?

Thank you in advance,
Vako

Fortunately, S/MIME makes this simple. All you need to do is sign the
message. Recipients can extract the public key from the signature.
