[kmymoney] [Bug 460947] New: CSV importer doesn't import ACH Debit payee descriptions correctly

2022-10-24 Thread bill weinel via KMyMoney-devel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460947

Bug ID: 460947
Summary: CSV importer doesn't import ACH Debit payee
descriptions correctly
Classification: Applications
   Product: kmymoney
   Version: 5.1.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: importer
  Assignee: kmymoney-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: tube.ra...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 153169
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=153169&action=edit
export.csv file which will create the error

SUMMARY

When using the CSV imported to import data from my bank into Kmymoney the payee
descriptions on ACH debits are imported incorrectly. The data entered in the
payee field is a character string from an old transaction followed by " &".
It appears in the payee description field in the database as follows: "JOHNSONS
PRODUCE &".

The imported CSV file contains different payee data in the payee/data field and
the issue is consistent whether the CSV is imported as either an 'amount'
based CSV or a 'credit/debit' based CSV. The problem is also evident in
previous versions of the Kmymoney CSV importer back to at least 5.1.1.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

The CSV file line in question as a 'credit/debit' based CSV file is:
10/4/2022,,ACH Debit PAYPAL INST XFER 022277007290137,,125.50

1.  file->import->csv
2. banking->skip setup->select file (export.csv)
3. formats: decimal symbol: dot(.) date format: m d y
4. import CSV
5. select banking account
6. click ok

OBSERVED RESULT

The first transaction containing a payee description line which contains "ACH
Debit" in the payee description field is entered into the kmymoney database as
"JOHNSONS PRODUCE &".

EXPECTED RESULT
The transaction payee description field should be entered into the kmymoney
database as "ACH Debit PAYPAL INST XFER 022277007290137" which is what is in
the CSV file payee description.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Your screen shot is not helpful - I don't know if it's too large/too
small/wrong resolution, but I only see a blur. On Linux, the ledger lens works
fine for me. Have you tried adjusting the column widths in the ledger?

The row is too short, not too narrow, just to clarify the terminology.
I am not able to replicate this on Linux, so we need to determine if it is a
configuration issue, or something Windows specific.
What exact version are you running - from Help/About KMyMoney?
Do you have the same problem if you select a transaction other than the last
one shown?
What are your Font settings (Configure KMyMoney, select Fonts on the left)?
I don't know if any of these matter, but I'm trying to find any possible cause.
(When you reply, you can set the status back to REPORTED)

Got it, sorry. English is a foreign language to me.

It may be a Windows specific issue, since I deleted KMyMoney the config file
and nothing changed.

> What exact version are you running - from Help/About KMyMoney?
Version 5.1.80-3aed8676c

> Do you have the same problem if you select a transaction other than the last

Yes, on every transaction in Ledger and in Tags. I did not check other areas.

> What are your Font settings (Configure KMyMoney, select Fonts on the left)?
Attached screenshot, all settings are default.

You may try a binary from the stable branch, see
https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/Windows%2064-bit/job/KMyMoney_Release_win64/.
If the issue is also shown, then it is probably a kmymoney issue. If that does
not help, try a binary release from
https://download.kde.org/stable/kmymoney/5.1.3/.

[kmymoney] [Bug 312649] Improve information to user on why an account can't be closed or deleted

2022-10-24 Thread Jack via KMyMoney-devel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=312649

I will also add that there are other cases where KMM does not allow for some
action, where it is often not obvious why. I'll just mention that now, but if
only one gets solved at some time, a separate bug can be opened for each
particular case. The current issue is not being able to edit a transaction -
often because it has a split which references a closed account.

Closing as not a bug, assuming that providing better reasons for not allowing
some action is already a separate wishlist. (bug 312649) (That bug was
originally about telling the user why an account could not be closed, but I
just added a comment to include this issue also, making it more general.

When I tried a version from the stable branch, version 5.1.3-261c598d3, I
noticed the row to be correctly sized for the text.

> If the issue is also shown, then it is probably a
> kmymoney issue.
But this difference between the branches also means it is an issue of KMyMoney
(that respective branch), doesn't it?
