[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1849419] Re: kernel panic after upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10

2019-12-03 Thread r.fabb...@gmail.com
Upgraded again this morning. Disabled everything in cron .
The PC was all day running . At midnight about at 00.45 I had a terminal opend
and I executed a program... Crashed.. every program is crashing.. no one
working. Segmentation faults everywhere .
Rebooted because noway to do anything and every kernel was not booting up. I
had to restore again the 19.04 with clonezilla.. this is driving me crazy.
I saved the var log dir but not as root . Sudo was crashing as all other .. no
way ..
What should I do now ?

Bug description:
First thing I notice is that the mouse cursor freezes as I'm using it,
then I hit the CAPS LOCK key and the LED indicator doesn't respond.
Then I try the "REISUB" command, but it doesn't do anything either.
Only a hard reset works, pressing down the power button for a few
  seconds.

  How to reproduce?
I couldn't figure out a consistent method. It is still random to me.

  Version: Ubuntu 4.18.0-10.11-generic 4.18.12
  System information attached.

Also happens under Arch Linux and Fedora.
I've talked to another user on IRC who seems to be having the same freezes.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1849419] Re: kernel panic after upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10

2019-11-26 Thread r.fabb...@gmail.com
i pulled out all ram and cleaned the contacts.
pulled out all connectors and replaced them in/out a few times.
upgraded to 19.10 now.
I did it via ssh because a few times i got black screen in the middle of
upgrade and a half way upgrade that i had to finish up booting in rescue mode.
will test it a day or two and let you know.
even if it passed all ram test and disk test , but really strange. did the same
thing on my laptop the same day and i doubt that even that one needs to be
cleaned too.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1845454] Re: Kernel panic in tpm_ functions when booting kernel 5.3 in Ubuntu 19.10 (but 5.2 works)

2019-10-22 Thread r.fabb...@gmail.com
5.3.0.19 kernel panic.
upgrade from 19.04 kernel 5.0 all works,
after upgrading boot without problem, after 10 minutes
every app is crashing, and will not boot on any kernel, even on older ones.

Title:
Kernel panic in tpm_ functions when booting kernel 5.3 in Ubuntu 19.10
  (but 5.2 works)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  SRU Justification

Impact: Some systems are getting kernel panics during boot while
parsing tpm event logs from the firmware. This happens only when the
tpm and secure boot are both enabled in the firmware.

Fix: 3 patches which are currently applied to the upstream EFI
  maintainer tree.

Test Case: On an affected system, booting a 5.3-based kernel will
panic during boot when the tpm and secure boot are enabled. A patched
kernel will boot successfully. The patches have been verified to fix
the issue on a gen 6 Lenovo X1 Carbon.

Regression Potential: If the patches have bugs they could cause
regressions on systems not currently experiencing issues. The patches
are pretty straightforward though, so I believe the risk is minimal
and (given the severity of the issue on affected hardware) acceptable.

  Image: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20190926/eoan-desktop-amd64.iso
  Device: Dell XPS 13 7390 (201908-27305)

When trying to start the live session ("try Ubuntu") or trying to
install the ISO ("install Ubuntu"), the boot process stops within 1
second with a kernel panic (see attached screenshot).

The system could boot with a previous version of Eoan image:
  2019-09-09 09:11 (kernel 5.3.0-10)

Workaround: disable TPM2 in the BIOS.

/!\ Please note: the information below (and the attached file
ProcCpuinfoMinimal.txt) come from a 18.04 live session, since I cannot boot
anything with 19.10 beta image.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1849419] [NEW] kernel panic after upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10

2019-10-22 Thread r.fabb...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10 on two of my pc does the same thing.
the upgrade is ok , boot ok, but after some time, and never the same, every app
is crashing
unable to reboot.
i manage a reset with the pc button, but after that kernel panic and no boot.
every kernel listed is having a panic.
only chance after that is clonezilla and turn back to previous image 19.04 that
i saved.
unable to enter recovery menu.
grub works
bios secure boot disabled.

2019-10-23 Thread r.fabb...@gmail.com
Also happens in my other laptop Asus k53sv.
After some minutes or some hour commands start crashing
And it's impossible to execute any command.
Apport is not opening.
Shutdown is impossible

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1849419] Re: kernel panic after upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10

2019-10-30 Thread r.fabb...@gmail.com
I did upgrade again.
19.04 to 19.10

after poweroff for all night. the morning i switch pc on and after a few
minutes i get the same kernel panic on every kernel installed.
i did test kernel 5.4 rc3 and no success.
same bug
i am starting to think it's related to deluge because i was adding a magnet
torrent and everything crashed.
every application command had i sigfault.

Title:
kernel panic after upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10 on two of my pc does the same thing.
the upgrade is ok , boot ok, but after some time, and never the same, every
app is crashing
  unable to reboot.
i manage a reset with the pc button, but after that kernel panic and no boot.
every kernel listed is having a panic.
only chance after that is clonezilla and turn back to previous image 19.04
that i saved.
  unable to enter recovery menu.
  grub works
  bios secure boot disabled.
