[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1416913] [NEW] Upgrade from 3.16.0-23 to -30 caused cascade.

2015-02-01 Thread Neil Hearn
Public bug reported:

Upgrade from 3.16.0-23 to -30 caused cascade of errors.
Started with TPM error (7) at boot and would not continue past.
Enabled TPM in Bios security.
TPM Error dissappeared but on boot Ubuntu splash was small and located top left.
Would not boot past this screen.

Recovery console would not boot failsafeX

Shell allowed the removal of nfs-common (only non-update module installed
before reboot).
Ran apt-get clean
apt-get autoremove
apt-get update

changed /etc/default/grub as per...
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi=nomsi quiet splash nolapic"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="tpm_tis.interrupts=0"

adding the "acpi=nomsi" and "nolapic" along with "tpm_tis.interrupts=0".

Rebooted and system came up.

None of this occurred before the kernel upgrade to 3.16.0-30

2015-02-01 Thread Neil Hearn
Hi Christopher,
The device in question is my wife's laptop, so I daren't "test" anything.
I submitted the bug, and would test this upstream, but I have no experience of
this error on my personal or development devices. Apologies if I have reported
when I should not.

Neil Hearn.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1416913] Re: Upgrade from 3.16.0-23 to -30 caused cascade.

2015-02-02 Thread Neil Hearn
Got permission from my wife to try and "fix" her issues.
Installed 3.19.0-031900rc7-generic kernel.

Laptop does not exhibit previous bug.

However, new issues appeared.
Broadcom4311 not recognised on boot.
Suspend to resume causes halt with a flashing "_" at top left of screen.

Should I close and open new report?

Public bug reported:

I am having the same issue. as in #1132675.

However, I can plug in the VGA port and get that working correctly, then
when I plug in a second display (HDMI), the HDMI Does not work
correctly.

If I have the HDMI monitor only plugged in, and then plug in the VGA,
the VGA initializes, but the HDMI dissapears.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1132675] Re: Radeon HD 6450 and dual monitor: second monitor not initialized correctly

2013-07-27 Thread Neil Hearn
The bug wouldn'taffect VGA+DVI as this would be 2 digital outputs.
The HD 6450 only support analog output on the VGA and only Digital on the
DVI/HDMI.
I wanted to use to monitors and wanted to use one of my existing analog
monitors and my new HDMI.

The VGA monitor will not work plugged into a VGA->DVI convertor as the
DVI doesn't ouput anything other than a Digital signal.

Check Hardware specs on card to see how this is achieved: 2 sepereated
display loops for analog and digital.
